After serving 8 years in the U. S. Marine Corps and teaching in public elementary school for 4 years, Dr. Bell received his Master’s in Counseling Psychology from National University in San Diego, where he completed an internship with both the San Diego Unified School District and with the Department of the Navy. He completed his Ph.D. and MPH degrees at the Institute for Advanced Study of Human Sexuality in San Francisco, where he lectures as an Associate Professor and is a Board Member of the Alumni Association. He is a certified Clinical Sexologist and Diplomate of the American Board of Sexology, as well as holding certification from the Association for the Treatment of Sex Abusers. He is a past Regional Board Member of the Society for the Scientific Study of Sexuality, and currently maintains status as a Continuing Education Provider with the Board of Behavioral Sciences and Board of Registered Nursing.
Dr. Bell is currently in private practice in San Francisco’s Noe Valley, where he specializes in sexual problems and chemical dependency. In addition to his private practice, he works as a clinical consultant with the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation in a pilot program for the community reintegration of sex offenders. He also provides behavioral health case management for Mills-Peninsula Medical Center. Dr. Bell is President of the Bay Area Therapy and Consultation Group, a group of sexual health providers, and conducts various workshops specific to sexual health and addiction recovery.
