Computer Labs at NDNU

NDNU has two open computer labs in St. Mary's Hall that are available for use by students, alumni, faculty, and staff:

• The PC Lab (SM 115) has twenty Windows-based PCs.
• The Mac Lab (SM 118) has twenty Macintosh computers (these also boot to Windows).

Hours of Operation
Fall and Spring terms: Days Hours Monday-Thursday 8 am - 11 pm Friday-Saturday 8 am - 4 pm Sunday Noon - 9 pm	Summer terms: Days Hours Monday-Thursday 9 am - 9pm Friday 9 am - 4 pm Saturday 10 am - 4 pm Sunday CLOSED

Each student is provided 10MB of personal directory space to save coursework. After the spring term, all the directories are purged. Students are responsible for backing up their files at the end of the spring term..

NDNU has established a print accounting system in the St. Mary's computer labs. This environmentally-friendly policy is aimed at reducing excessive printing in these areas. Each student is now allocated 250 free B&W 8.5"x11" pages during fall term, 250 pages during spring term, and 125 pages each summer term. A popup displays before and after the printing with the balance. Once the quota has been exceeded, subsequent prints are charged at a rate of 6¢ per page. These amounts are compiled, then forwarded to the Business Office to be charged to the student's account.
Always log-off when you finish working at a lab computer. If you don't, and someone else uses the computer before it's logged off automatically (after fifteen minutes), any printing will be charged to your username. Always log-off before you leave the lab.

Requests for new software installations or upgrades: (for which you have multi-users licenses) must be submitted to OIT at least two weeks prior to the first date of use. Should the upgrade or installation cause potential academic program disruptions or should the software installation conflict with currently installed applications, the installations will be re-scheduled after the conflicts are resolved.

Holidays: the PC Lab and Mac Lab are closed on official University holidays. See the NDNU Academic Calendar for dates in the current year.

Other locations on campus with computers for student use: Gellert Library, Academic Success Center, Student Lounge, and Writing Center.

Classroom Labs: Wiegand Macintosh Lab (MA 3), GIS Lab (SM 117), and Business Studio Lab (CU 6).

Scheduling Class Use of NDNU Computer Labs
All requests to hold entire courses in NDNU's Computer Labs must be included in the Course Offering Sheets that are completed for the up-coming semester. This can be done simply by writing the room number of the desired lab in the Room Code column of the Course Offering Sheet. The Department Head or Program Director must, at that same time, submit an electronic Computer Lab Request Form to the Computer Lab Manager.
For ad hoc requests (one or several class meetings in the labs), you do not need to use the Course Offering Sheet. Just submit an online request at least five business days in advance of the earliest date requested. This minimizes the inconvenience to our students who plan their schedules around posted open-lab hours.

Please be considerate of others: go outside to talk on cell phones; use headphones for sound; please speak softly; don't hold group meetings. Sorry, no pets other than service animals.
