Presidents of NDNU: Dr. Margaret A. Huber

As the 16th President of (then) College of Notre Dame, Dr. Margaret Huber served from August 1 of 1994 until June 30 of 2000.
Dr. Huber was a member of the Sisters of Divine Providence of Pittsburgh for more than 25 years, 1967-92.
She began her career in education as a junior high teacher at St. Martin School in Pittsburgh, PA in 1971.
Following her stint at St. Martin, she moved on to higher education, eventually serving as President of La Roche College in Pittsburgh from 1981 until 1992.
Upon assuming the Presidency of La Roche College at age 31, Dr. Huber was the youngest college president in the country. She was also the first president of CND who was not a member of the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur.
Just prior to assuming her role at CND, she spent a sabbatical year at the University of New Mexico studying Spanish and Hispanic and Native American cultures, and then a year serving as Executive Director of the Archdiocese of Santa Fe Catholic Foundation.
After CND, she returned to Corrales, NM and worked at the University of New Mexico College of Arts and Sciences as the chief development officer. Recently she became the Vice President for Institutional Advancement at Georgian Court College in Lakewood, NJ.
Dr. Huber grew up in rural western Pennsylvania, where her leadership skills surfaced at an early age: she was elected president of her fifth grade class. She received a BS in chemistry from Duquesne University, a master’s degree in administration and finance from the University of Notre Dame in Indiana, and a Ph.D. in higher education from the University of Michigan.
Currently, Dr. Huber lives in Jackson, NJ with her husband, attorney Thomas Schuchert and her nieces, Tammy and Holly Campbell.
Dr. Huber is keenly interested in architecture and the planning of physical space. One of her major accomplishments at CND was the refinement of a long-range plan and the development of the Campus Master Plan, which is the basis for the current building program on campus. This scholarship was established to honor her service as president and to provide assistance to future generations of NDNU students.
