Frequently Asked Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the St. Julie Billiart Emergency Scholarship Fund and why is it needed?
The St. Julie Billiart Emergency Scholarship Fund is a fundraising campaign during this economic downturn that will raise money for scholarship support at Notre Dame de Namur University. These funds will be used first to help existing NDNU students remain in school and secondly to create an opportunity for entering students, who otherwise would not be able to attend NDNU in the fall. The St. Julie Billiart Emergency Scholarship Fund is named in honor of the founder of the Sisters of Notre Dame, an order that has always been dedicated to creating access to education for those who would otherwise not receive it.
How much financial aid does NDNU usually provide to students?
- 80% of our students receive some form of financial aid
- NDNU provides $5.4 million in NDNU scholarships and grants to our students
- Last Year, NDNU undergraduates averaged $9,380 in NDNU scholarship and grants
How will these scholarship funds be awarded?
The funds raised during this campaign will be used to help existing NDNU students to continue their education at NDNU and new incoming students, who otherwise would not be able to attend NDNU. The Financial Aid Office will be responsible for dispersing all scholarship money raised from this campaign to NDNU students who qualify for financial aid.
How else is NDNU dealing with the economic climate?
NDNU has taken strides on a university-wide effort to cut costs and generate additional revenues. None of the actions taken to cut costs have impacted any of the services received by students and we are determined not to do anything that would in any way diminish the NDNU educational experience for any of our students. For example, we have temporarily eliminated non-essential travel, training, conferences, and have frozen most hiring.
Has the economy impacted giving to NDNU so far this school year?
At NDNU, total donors so far this year are down by 13% as of April 21 and the total alumni donors are down 15%. We are deeply grateful for the continued support of all our alumni and friends we are reaching out to during these challenging economic times.
