Douglas Rice, DBA

Interim Dean of the School of Business and Management

Douglas Rice joined the faculty at Notre Dame de Namur University in 2012. Prior to that, he taught for over ten years at Golden Gate University. His teaching primarily involves the field of finance. Rice’s research interests include decision-making and risk tolerance for investors, as well as investigating the causes of the banking and financial crisis. Through his community involvement, he has counseled individuals as a Certified Financial Planner (TM) and Registered Investment Adviser, and founded Rice Financial Education, a nonprofit focused on financial literacy for middle- and low-income individuals. His business experience has led to several software startups based on his corporate background, which includes serving as the vice president of marketing and technical services for a global fire protection manufacturing company. He was appointed by FEMA to head the fire protection restoration efforts after the Oakland hills fire, and was the education coordinator of the Fire Sprinkler Advisory Board. He holds an MBA and BSBA from the University of Phoenix, an MS in finance from Northeastern University, and a DBA concentrated in finance from Golden Gate University
