Rick Deragon

Professor in Art

Rick Deragon teaches studio art classes, Writing About Art, and Art Education Concepts at NDNU. A painter and writer, Mr. Deragon has exhibited in one person and group shows throughout the California, including the National Steinbeck Center, the Fremont Gallery in Pasadena, the Avenue Nine Gallery in Chico, and, most recently, at Napa Valley College. He has juried several art exhibitions in Monterey, Pacific Grove, and Napa. Previous to NDNU, he was the Executive Director of the Napa Valley Museum where he curated exhibitions, such as “Stephen De Staebler: New Work” in 2009. He has taught art history at Napa Valley College, Solano Community College in Fairfield, and Hartnell College in Salinas, as well as Art and English classes at Palma School, also in Salinas. Mr. Deragon was the art critic for The Monterey Herald, and a contributing art writer for Artweek, Monterey County Weekly, the Chico News and Review, as well as for national publications, such as Metalsmith and American Ceramics magazines.  Before that, Mr. Deragon was the curator/registrar for the Monterey Museum of Art, and the Instructor of the Gallery Production course at California State University, Chico.
