Undergraduate Programs for Music Majors
The Bachelor of Music in Performance program offers a pre-professional concentration in musical performance for qualified students. The Bachelor of Arts music program permits students to select music as their major area of concentration within the framework of a liberal arts education. The Bachelor of Fine Arts in Musical Theatre prepares students for careers as actors/singers/dancers in professional musical theatre, cabaret, or television performance.
Students who enroll in the music classes at Notre Dame de Namur University have the advantage of several special qualities in the music programs:
- small classes conducted by a dedicated and highly

competent faculty guarantee the student individual attention,and are flexible and tailor-made to fit the needs of the students; - proximity of the University to San Francisco, Stanford University, and other cultural centers offers numerous opportunities for attending outstanding musical events;
- liberal arts background against which the student pursues the course of study assures the development of the whole person – an individual capable of appreciating beauty in its manifold forms and particularly capable of communicating that appreciation to others.
Requirements
Requirements for admission include presenting a solo performance audition, submitting a personal repertoire list, and completing a diagnostic test of musicianship skills in the areas of theory, ear training, and vocal and keyboard sight-reading.
Requirements for graduation include completing specified coursework, ensemble experience, concert attendance, and jury examinations in applied music. A Bachelor of Music candidate also participates in at least four student recitals and presents a solo senior recital. A Bachelor of Fine Arts candidate also participates in at least eight stage productions, completes a professional internship, and presents an individualized final project.
Accreditation
Accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music, the Department of Music at Notre Dame de Namur University offers degree programs which combine a solid foundation in performance skills with the rich cultural heritage associated with music. All NDNU Music programs promote growth in general musicianship while preparing students to make professional application of their musical training.
