School Mission Statement

The School of Business & Management's mission is to provide a learning environment utilizing classroom, practicum, and applied research experiences that demonstrate practicality to the real world where students are able to develop values, ethics, integrity, entrepreneurial attitude, knowledge, competencies, skills, abilities, and confidence congruent with the needs of our global community.

Learning Outcomes

We recognize that learning experience is not just about acquiring new knowledge, but rather should be the sum gain of all concepts, applied theory and experiential leaning from coursework that prepares students with the aptitude, abilities and values to be successful in life. Therefore we have established a set of student Learning Outcomes that are deemed essential competencies that students are expected to demonstrate as a part of completing their degree program.

Program: Undergraduate Business Administration

  1. Students will acquire and demonstrate analytical and problem solving skills within various disciplines of business—accounting, economics, finance, management and marketing.
  2. Students will learn to describe, discuss and analyze current events in American business with attention to the global, social and ethical dimensions of events.
  3. Students will acquire the communication, research and technological skills needed to analyze a business situation (problem and/or opportunity), and prepare and present a management report.
  4. Students will engage in at least one internship or service learning experience to demonstrate relevancy of foundational and theoretical knowledge of their academic major and to gain career related experiences.
  5. Students will develop critical thinking abilities and a foundation of ethical principles that allows them to work effectively, respectfully, ethically and professionally with people of diverse ethnic, cultural, gender and other backgrounds.

Program: Undergraduate Communication

  1. Students will develop the ability to understand and demonstrate adherence to ethical principles in all forms of communication.
  2. Students will develop the ability to critically evaluate the role of mass media in a democracy.
    Students will develop the ability to communicate through the written word in a clear, concise and informative manner.
  3. Students will develop the ability to develop a speech that informs or persuades using research and critical thinking skills.
  4. Students will develop the ability to understand and recognize the influence of mass media in global and diversity issues.
  5. Students will develop the ability to understand the history of mass media; to demonstrate an understanding of what makes a good news story; to distinguish between news and opinion; to meet deadlines; to demonstrate an understanding of the journalistic provisions of the First Amendment; to practice team collaboration skills.

Program: Graduate MBA

    1. Students will be able to understand and be able to offer input on the global, economic, legal, and ethical responsibilities for business.
    2. Students will to demonstrate effective leadership and collaboration skills for making decisions, accomplishing goals and be able to serve as a spokesperson in order to evaluate and provide feedback to others who serve in those roles.
    3. Students will are able to demonstrate written and oral communication competencies that support effectiveness of marketing and operational efforts.
    4. Students will be able to evaluate the effective use of technology in an organization to achieve organizational and operational performance.
    5. Students will be able to develop comprehensive solutions to business problems by synthesizing and evaluating information using qualitative and quantitative analytical reasoning.
       

Program: Graduate MPA

  1. Students will develop competencies for dealing with individual differences in skills and behavior and the basics of personality development as it relates to management and the behavior of people in community organizations.
  2. Students will develop communication skills necessary for writing reports, explaining issues and policies, persuasively presenting initiatives, corresponding with colleagues, and public contingents.
  3. Students gain experiential knowledge about the challenges and model practices of contemporary public sector administration needed to effectively assess public sector organizations, community partners, and delivery of services.
  4. Students will be able to quantitatively assess public policy programs from program formulation through evaluation.
  5. Students will develop knowledge of political and legal institutions and processes as well as economic and social institutions and processes to problem solve.

Program: Graduate MSM

  1. Students will be able to develop their abilities to analyze the creation of value through the integrated production and distribution of goods, services, or information.
  2. Students will learn be able to communicate the role systems serve in an organization and be able to demonstrate application of systematic problem solving skills.
  3. Students will learn essential issues of sustainability, systems theory, and organization behavior in order to make decisions or recommendations based on improving organizational efficacy, operational efficacy, and/or promoting socioeconomic responsibility.
  4. Students will be able to communicate professionally (through written, oral, and visual means) compelling argument(s), concepts and techniques that were evidenced with comprehensive references to scholarly research.
  5. Students will be able to understand and translate theoretical research constructs to specific implications as pertaining to real-world issues and concerns.
