Notre Dame de Namur University has long been recognized for the excellence of our programs in education. Presently NDNU offers five credentials, two certificates and seven master’s degrees within the School of Education of Leadership. Many of our alumni are active teachers and administrators in San Mateo County and throughout the Peninsula. Personalized attention and individualized counseling for students, field orientation of programs, and successful placement of graduates have characterized the education program since its inception in 1953.

Technology Leadership at NDNU

According to the U.S. Department of Education, public schools are approaching universal access to the Internet, with 98 percent of schools now connected. Private and public school classroom access to the Internet is also improving steadily. Currently, 26 states and the District of Columbia require technology training for initial teacher licensure and others offer incentives for teachers to use technology to support instruction. (Education Week, May 9, 2002)

At NDNU, each master’s program includes coursework, fieldwork, and mentoring in the areas of teaching, learning, technology, social justice, diversity, equity, and leadership. Our students learn the skills necessary to teach computer and technology courses to K-12 students, and to support school and district efforts to meet state mandated technology standards.

The Department of Education offers two different options, depending on your interests and goals: Educational Technology Certificate and Master of Education (M.Ed.) in Technology Leadership degree.

Distinctions:

  • Courses are available during two summer sessions as well as the fall and spring semesters and are offered late in the afternoons/evenings and on weekends in order to accommodate work commitments.
  • Under the direction of an advisor, the master’s program culminates with a capstone project – a form of practitioner research that demonstrates scholarly knowledge, skills, and habits of inquiry and reflection.
  • Graduates are able to create and maintain their own professional or classroom websites and to navigate and manage technology networks.
  • NDNU students learn to research resources and to write grants to augment their technology programs.
