Assumption Program of Loans for Education (APLE) for Current Participants Nominated By a COLLEGE
This APLE program is for students who apply while they are pursuing a teaching credential, who are nominated by their postsecondary school of attendance, and who are willing to become teachers in:
- subject areas where a critical teacher shortage has been identified, or
- designated schools that meet criteria established by the Superintendent of Public Instruction.

APLE for Current Participants Nominated By A DISTRICT INTERN PROGRAM
Applicants must be approved to participate in a District Intern Program approved by the Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC) and leading to a full teaching credential; they must be nominated by their District Office and agree to become teachers in critical teacher shortage areas or designated schools.

Stafford Loan Forgiveness Program for Teachers
Teacher Loan Forgiveness
The Teacher Loan Forgiveness Program is intended to encourage individuals to enter and continue in the teaching profession. Under this program, if you teach full-time for five complete and consecutive academic years in certain elementary and secondary schools and educational service agencies that serve low-income families, and meet other qualifications, you may be eligible for forgiveness of up to a combined total of $17,500 on your Direct Subsidized and Unsubsidized Loans and your Subsidized and Unsubsidized Federal Stafford Loans. If you have PLUS loans only, you are not eligible for this type of forgiveness.
