Emerging Artist Talent Scholarships
Entering students for Fall 2008
Each fall, newly entering Notre Dame de Namur University undergraduates (freshmen and transfers) with exceptional talent in Art, Music, Musical Theatre, Theatre, or English (Writing) may be awarded an NDNU Emerging Artist Scholarship, valued between $7,500-$9,500 per year.
These scholarships are renewable each year as long as the recipient maintains NDNU academic eligibility, stays in the academic field of the scholarship and continues to develop his/her talent within the awarding department.
FOR ALL CANDIDATES:
Each awarding department has its own distinct audition/portfolio requirements and deadlines. Note that in every case, a successful candidate must have submitted the regular NDNU admission application documents by February 1 and completed all audition/portfolio requirements as stated by the particular awarding department. For scholarships requiring auditions, please try to submit materials by January 15, 2008. Please click on the Department Homepages for the most complete up-to-date scholarship information.
ART Candidates for an Emerging Artist Scholarship in Art should submit a portfolio of 15 slides, photographs, originals, or a cd of their work, as well as a brief statement about their work and their goals for studying Art or Graphic Design. Portfolios must be received by February 1, 2008 by: Betty Friedman, Art Dept. Chair, Notre Dame de Namur University, 1500 Ralston Avenue, Belmont, CA 94002, ATTN: Emerging Artist Scholarship. Portfolios may not be returned unless specifically requested and only if return postage/packaging are included.

To schedule your audition, contact Francesca Camus in the Music and Vocal Arts Office (650-508-3429, or fcamus@ndnu.edu). Requirements: Music majors should prepare two contrasting works from the standard repertoire. Musical Theater majors should prepare two contrasting songs (classical or musical theater repertoire), and a 1-2 minute monologue. An accompanist will be provided. (CD accompaniment is not accepted.) Students may also audition by audio or videotape.

Actors must also perform contrasting pieces, performed within 5 minutes or up to 7 minutes, if singing or dancing is included. (An accompanist is not provided but a cassette and CD player will be available.) The audition is on campus, by appointment only, in February. In hardship cases, a videotaped audition may be acceptable but must adhere to the same guidelines.
Production: Designers/Technicians must submit an organized resume, reference letter, and portfolio to be discussed during an on-campus appointment. The portfolio remains with the committee after the interview, but will be returned after March 1, if requested.
