Bergeron and Murray Earn All-Conference Honors
March 27 – Senior forward Den Bergeron and freshman guard Bennie Murray both earned Honorable Mention All-PacWest recognition for their outstanding play this season.
Bergeron, a Preseason All-Conference selection, finished the season with a career high 11.7 points per game. The senior from Sunnyvale, CA/Fremont HS also led the team and finished fifth in the conference in both rebounds and assists. Bergeron grabbed 6.9 rebounds per game to become the school’s all-time leader in career rebounds and averaged a career high 3.6 assists. He recorded six double-doubles on the season, including a 21-point, 17-rebound performance in a four overtime loss to Hawaii Hilo. Bergeron reached double figures in scoring 17 times and became just the fifth person in school history to top the 1,000 point mark.
Murray, a freshman from Fairfield, CA/Will C. Wood HS averaged a team high 12.5 points on the season and led the squad in 3-pointers with 53. Murray was the top freshman scorer in the West Region while finishing 12th in the PacWest in scoring. He reached double figures 21 times and averaged 15.4 points, 5.4 rebounds and 2.5 threes over the final nine games while shooting 49% from three.
Murray and Bergeron become the third and fourth Argonauts to receive All-PacWest honors after Ryan Cooper and Chris Clock earned recognition in each of the past two seasons.
Argos Drop Second Straight to Dixie State
February 28 – The Notre Dame de Namur men’s basketball team closed out their season with a tough 70-59 loss to Dixie State. The Argos nearly overcame a large deficit in the second half and finished the year 6-21.
For the second straight night the Argos got on the board first before the Red Storm built a big margin. Dixie State hit six threes in the first eight minutes to jump out to a 23-5 lead. NDNU did their best to respond, answering with a 15-3 run but would go into the locker room down 33-22. The Argos shot just 32% in the first while DSC made 7-15 from behind the arc.
The Red Storm built their advantage to 17 in the second half before a late Argonaut run cut the deficit to five with just over three minutes remaining. However, Dixie State converted their free throw attempts to preserve the victory.
The Argos shot much better in the second, making 53% of their attempts while the Red Storm made 39% of their field goals. The difference in the game came down to a 15-8 advantage for the visitors on the offensive glass.
Bennie Murray once again scored a game high 19 points on 7-13 shooting. Dan Bergeron tacked on 16 to become just the fifth Argonaut to eclipse the 1,000 point mark. Bergeron added five rebounds, three blocks and two steals while Andre Hayes also reached double figures with 10.

Red Storm Handle Argos
February 27 – The Notre Dame de Namur men’s basketball team struggled to stop the Red Storm from long range as Dixie State made nine 3-pointers on their way to a 74-58 victory.
After scoring the games opening bucket the Argos never led again as an early 14-3 run gave Dixie State a big cushion. The Red Storm shot 56% in the first half and made 8-14 from long range as they sprinted to an 11 point halftime lead.
The second half was not much better for NDNU with the visitors making 12-12 from the charity stripe to build their margin to 21 points. The Argos fought back with a late 13-2 run to cut the deficit to ten but would not get any closer.
The Argos shot well from the field, making 50% of their shots but went 0-6 from long range in the second half. The Red Storm also held a 32-19 rebounding advantage as well as a 15-4 advantage from the free throw line.
Bennie Murray scored a game high 19 points for the Argonauts, 13 of which came in the second half. Trent Henwood made 6-7 shots from the field to chip in 12 while Dan Bergeron finished with seven points, eight assists and six rebounds.
Four Dixie State players reach double figures, led by Nick Howards 17 points. Bowie Jeffs connected on his first four 3-pointers to chip in 16 while Ryan Sanchez and Tom Whitehead added 14 apiece.
These two will square off again tomorrow night when the Argonauts end the season with Senior Night. BOX SCORE
Argos Score 22 Straight Points, Down Academy of Art
February 21 – The Notre Dame de Namur men’s basketball ended the first half on a 22-0 run to storm past the Academy of Art and win 72-49. The Argos held the Urban Knights without a basket for the final seven minutes of the half.
Academy of Art came out strong, leading by as many as nine halfway through the first half. After a Marquis Crawford gave the Urban Knights a 23-16 advantage, the Argos turned up the heat defensively and finished the half with 22 consecutive points. AAU missed their final nine shots and committed four turnovers over the final seven minutes while NDNU connected on 4-5 from 3-point range.
The Argos picked up where they left off in the second opening the half with a 15-6 lead to push their margin to 24 points. NDNU would go on to lead by as many as 27 as the made 58% of their field goals in the half and held a 39-22 rebounding advantage for the game.
Dan Bergeron and Deon Sharps led the Argos offensively with 18 points and eight rebounds apiece. Sharps shot 9-14 from the field while Bergeron hit a career high four 3-pointers. Bennie Murray recorded his first career double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds while Chris Silzer and Andre Hayes scored nine points each.
Crawford paced AAU with 13 points while Hunter Hayden and Phillip Samuel added 12 and 11 points respectively.

BYU Hawaii Storms Past NDNU
February 17 – The Notre Dame de Namur men’s basketball team played tough but could not stick with #3 BYU Hawaii as the Seasiders picked up the 86-52 victory.
The Argos led early with Deon Sharps scoring seven straight to give NDNU a 10-8 lead. The lead would not last long as the Seasiders rattled off 11 straight points and never looked back. Bennie Murray pulled the Argos within three a few minutes later with back-to-back triple but once again BYU Hawaii responded. The visitors would real off two separate seven point streaks and went into the break ahead by 13.
The Seasiders quickly built their margin over 20 in the second half before using a 21-5 run to put the Argos away for good. The Argos shot 44% for their game and played well defensively, holding the nations best shooting team to just 46% from the field. However, BYU Hawaii took 20 more shots thanks in large part to their 44-24 rebounding advantage. The Seasiders grabbed 21 offensive rebounds for the game and forced NDNU into 22 turnovers.
Sharps led the Argos with 18 points on 8-10 shooting while connecting on his first seven shots. Murray also reached double figures with 14 points, four rebounds and three assists.
Jet Chang scored a game high 20 points for the Seasiders while Lucas Alves tacked on 19. Nathan Sims chipped in a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds.

Argos Comeback Falls Short at Grand Canyon
February 13 – Despite trailing by as many as 15 in the first half, the Notre Dame de Namur men’s basketball team nearly overtook Grand Canyon before falling 61-52. The Argos moved to 5-17 on the season while the Antelopes improved to 12-11.
The first half remained tight for the first seven minutes as the two teams traded a few baskets to even the score at 11-11. GCU then caught fire, hitting nine of their next 13 shots to pull off a 19-4 run. The Argos responded by closing the half with six straight points to cut the score to 30-21.
NDNU came out strong in the second, scoring seven straight to cut the deficit to two with just over 18 minutes remaining. After the Antelopes pushed the margin back to seven with eight minutes left, the Argos cut the lead back to one with six straight points. That would be as close NDNU would get as GCU connected on their free throws at the end of the game to seal the victory.
The Argos struggled from the field all game long, hitting just 37% of their shots on the night. Grand Canyon shot 44% and forced NDNU into 23 turnovers.
Bennie Murray led all players with 15 points as he connected on three 3-pointers and all six of his free throws. Dan Bergeron also reached double figures with 12 points while Deon Sharps tacked on seven points and 11 rebounds.
Milee Karre and Engen Nurumbi both reached double figures for GCU with 11 and 10 points respectively.
The Argos will look to even the season series tomorrow night as these two team square off fourth and final meeting of the year. BOX SCORE
Argos Drop Another Close One
February 8 – The Notre Dame de Namur men’s basketball dropped another close PacWest contest as they fell to Hawaii Pacific 59-57. The Argos made a furious first half comeback to put them in a position to pull out the victory but came up just short.
The first half started with the Sea Warriors jumping out the gates to take a 9-3 lead. The margin ballooned to 30-14 with just seven minutes remaining in the half. After HPU made the score 33-19 with 3:52 left, the Argos caught fire. Bennie Murray and Andre Hayes scored five points each as NDNU closed the half on a 12-0 run.
The Argos added to the run to begin the second as Murray knocked down a triple to give NDNU their first lead of the game at 34-33. The game was back and forth from that point on as the second half saw ten lead changed and four ties.
Neither team lead by more than four points in the half but the Sea Warriors picked the right time to take the lead. With the score tied 53-53 with 7:52 remaining Jason Curtis and Rishi Kakad knocked down back-to-back jump shots to give HPU a four point advantage.
The Argos cut the lead to two with 32 second remaining and got the ball back when they forced a turnover on the ensuing inbound pass. However, the Argos could not tie the score as Dan Bergeron’s off balance jumper in the final seconds came up just shy.
Murray scored a game high 19 points and grabbed eight rebounds to lead all players. He also connected on 5-8 from 3-point range. Andre Hayes also reached double figures for NDNU with 13 points while Bergeron finished with six points, seven rebounds and five assists.
Jeff Ingram led the Sea Warriors with 15 points while Jason Curtis recorded 13 points and eight assists.

Argos Outlast Academy of Art in Overtime
February 2 – A late second half comeback and outstanding defense in overtime helped propel the Notre Dame de Namur men’s basketball team to a 74-69 victory over the Academy of Art. The Argos moved to 5-15 on the season with the win.
The beginning of the game was dominated by the Argonauts as they shot their way to an early 18-8 advantage. Bennie Murray scored eight straight points during the run to give the Argos a cushion. The Urban Knights would not go away quietly, closing the half on a 10-2 run to take a one point lead into the break.
The Argos connected in six 3-pointers in the half on 17 attempts while the Urban Knights made 4-6 from long distance.
The second half remained tight for the first few minutes before an 8-0 run by the visitors gave them a seven point advantage. Andre Hayes kept NDNU in it with eight straight points before Victor Lee scored five straight to push the Argos ahead by one with 5:16 remaining.
Marquis Crawford would give the Academy of Art the lead back with a 3-pointer with j before Lorenzo Dobson’s jumper pushed the margin to thee with just under one minute remaining. Dan Bergeron then came up huge as he knocked down a 3-pointer with 28 seconds left to tie the score at 64-64. The Urban Knight failed to convert on a pair of jumper in the final second as the game went into overtime.
The Argos controlled overtime from the start, scoring the first five points and never looking back. AAU cut the deficit to two with 1:05 remaining, but Murray sealed the game with a jumper.
Hayes led the Argos with 15 points off the bench while Bergeron added 14 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists. Murray also reached double figures with 11 points and also grabbed a career high nine rebounds.
All five starters scored in double figures for AAU with Crawford’s 10 points leading the way. Lorenzo Dobson picked up a double-double with 10 points and 13 rebounds while Weleh Dennis tacked on 13 points, seven rebounds and five assists.

Argos Drop Second Straight at Dixie State
January 27 – The Notre Dame de Namur men’s basketball suffered their second straight loss at Dixie State, falling to the Red Storm 85-71. The Argos moved to 4-15 on the season with eight games left to play.
After a defensive struggle the night before, both teams came out firing to open up the game. The Argos connected on eight of their first ten shots and led 21-19 with 12:02 remaining in the half. However, the Red Storm responded with eight straight points to take the lead. NDNU would tie the score at 31-31 late in the half before Dixie State closed on a 9-2 run to take a seven point advantage into the break.
The Red Storm shot 59% in the half while the Argos connected on just 33% of their attempts but remained close with a 13-15 performance from the line.
The second half picked up with Dixie State continue their run as they quickly pushed their lead into double digits. The Argos did their best to hang close, hitting 16 free throws in the half but the Red Storm’s hot shooting continued. The home team made 16-32 shots in the second, including 3-5 from 3-point range.
Bennie Murray scored a game high 19 points for the Argonauts and knocked down three triples. Dan Bergeron tacked on 18 points and 10 rebounds while Trent Henwood scored a career high 12 points in just his second start of the season.
The Red Storm got 51 points from their bench, including a team high 16 from Ben Hartman. Tom Whitehead and Andy Palmer recorded 13 points apiece to give Dixie State three scorers in double figures.

Argos Fall in Four Overtime Thriller
January 23 – The Argos and Vulcans needed 20 extra minutes to decide a winner as the two teams battled through four overtimes before Hawaii Hilo prevailed 103-92. The back and forth game featured eleven lead changes and nine ties before the Vulcans broke out in the fourth overtime.
NDNU came out gunning, taking an early 12-6 defense thanks to outstanding perimeter defense. The Vulcans failed to connect on their first six 3-point attempts before hitting two in a row to tie the game at 12-12. After UHH briefly took the lead, the Argos responded with a 12-2 run to take a six point advantage with just over five minutes remaining. The margin grew to nine as Bennie Murray knocked down a pair of triples before Josh Malloy added one of his own.
The Argos shot 52% in the half and held to Vulcans to just 32% shooting to take a 33-26 lead into the break. UHH also connected on just 2-14 threes while NDNU went 4-10 from beyond the arc.
The second half was a different story as the Vulcans fought their way back into the game. With 9:16 left, the Argos led 46-39 but that lead would quickly evaporate as UHH rattled off ten straight points to take a three point advantage. After NDNU fell behind by three points in the final two minutes, senior Dan Bergeron came up big with a game tying 3-pointer.
Jay DeMaestri then put the Vulcans up by two with layup with just eleven seconds remaining. However, Bergeron once again came up big with a layup with 3.5 second left to tie the score. Bergeron was also fouled but could not connect on his free throw, thus sending the game into overtime.
Murray drained a three to open up the first overtime, but the lead would not last long as Jacob Briggs responded with a triple of his own. Andre Hayes’s two free throws and Bergeron’s jumper gave NDNU a four point lead with 18 seconds left but the Vulcans once again countered. Charlando Brown hit a runner and Briggs connected on layup in the final seconds to send the game into a second overtime.
In the second overtime, the Argos once again took a lead into the final minute before Hawaii Hilo fought back. With NDNU leading by two with 29 seconds left, Hayes turned the ball over and DeMaestri hit a lay-up to once again knot the score.
With the game tied 69-69 heading into the third overtime, the Vulcans came out strong with a pair of buckets to take a four point advantage. However, Murray responded with a three to cut the deficit to one. The Vulcans took that one point lead into the final minute before stretching it to five with 17 seconds left after sinking four straight free throws.
The Argos refused to give up as they cut the lead to two with an off balance 3-pointer by Jeff Berridge with just eight second left. After John Smith hit 1-2 from the line, the Vulcans fouled Bergeron with three seconds left so he could not get off a game tying three. At the line, Bergeron sunk the first before missing the second one of purpose. Hayes came up huge, grabbing the miss and getting fouled on his put back attempt with 1.5 seconds left. Hayes calmly sunk both free throws to send the game to a fourth extra period.
In the fourth overtime, Smith took the game over as he scored nine of the Vulcans 20 points to earn UHH the victory.
Bennie Murray led all scores with a career high 25 points and knocked down six 3-pointers. Dan Bergeron added 21 points, 17 rebounds and seven assists while Andre Hayes also recorded a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Josh Malloy was the fourth Argonaut in double figures with 13 points.
The Vulcans had six players in double figures, including all five starters. John Smith led the way with 21 points and seven assists while Jay DaMeastri added 18 points and 14 rebounds. Perry Baggett recorded 19 points and Charlando Brown tacked on 18 of his own.

BYU Hawaii Storms Past Argos
January 15 – The Notre Dame de Namur men’s basketball team struggled in their matchup with #8 BYU Hawaii as the Seasiders won 104-67. The Argos were outrebounded 45-19 and allowed BYUH to shoot 64% from the field.
The Seasiders came out gunning, taking a 31-12 lead with just over eight minutes remaining in the half. The Argos shot just 41% in the half and committed 14 turnovers while BYU Hawaii connected on 63% from the field.
The Argos could not cut into the deficit in the second half as the Seasiders stretched their lead to over 30 points. The home team once again shot over 60% while NDNU made just 40% of their field goals.
Bennie Murray and Andre Hayes paced NDNU with 12 points each. Murray added a career high eight assists and added four rebounds. Josh Malloy also reached double figures with ten points off the bench.
Five Seasiders reached double figures with Tsung-Hsien Chang leading the way with 20 points off the bench. Lucas Alves poured in 18 points and grabbed nine rebounds while Trensen Akana tacked on 13 points.

Argos Fall at Hawaii Pacific
January 15 – The Notre Dame de Namur men’s basketball team dropped their third straight game on their Hawaii road trip, falling to Hawaii Pacific 82-65. The Argos controlled the game for much of the first half, before a run by HPU gave them the lead for good.
NDNU started the game off with a 12-6 run after back-to-back 3-pointers by Jeff Berridge. The Argos led by as many as seven before a run by HPU in the final minutes of the half gave the home team a 34-31 lead at the break.
Both teams shot well in the first with the Argos shooting 46% and the Sea Warriors connecting on 50% of their attempts. HPU also committed just four turnovers while NDNU turned the ball over just six times.
The second half remained close for the first few minutes as the Sea Warriors led 49-47 with 12:09 remaining. HPU then rattled off 12 straight points to break the game wide open and cruise to a victory.
The two teams were even better with the ball in the second as they combined for just six turnovers.
Deon Sharps led the Argos with 19 points while Dan Bergeron added eight points, ten rebounds and five assists.
The Sea Warriors had five players reach double figures with Adrian den Dulk’s 19 points leading the way. Jason Curtis added 16 points and seven assists while Cliff Hodge added 14 points and nine rebounds.

Chaminade Downs Argos
January 13 – The Notre Dame de Namur men’s basketball team turned in another strong performance in a conference loss as Chaminade defeated the Argos for the second time this season. The Swords toppled NDNU 79-68 thanks in large part to 53% shooting from the field and seven 3-pointers.
The Argos and Swords went back and forth for the first ten minutes of the game with six lead changes and three ties. NDNU used a 9-1 run halfway through the period to take their largest lead of the game at 22-15. However, Chaminade responded with eight straight points to take a 23-22 advantage. After the Argos tied the score once again, the Swords ended the half strong to take a seven point lead into the break.
NDNU hung tough in the second, but could not get any closer than four points as Chaminade connected on 17-30 shots for the half. The Swords also hit 4-9 from beyond the arc while the Argos missed all six of their 3-point shots.
Dan Bergeron turned in a season high 18 points, including 12 in the second half and also grabbed five rebounds. Deon Sharps added 14 points on 7-12 shooting while Bennie Murray scored all 11 of his points in the second half.
Jamar Berry and Joel Smith led four Swords in double figures with 13 points each while Mohamed Tangara and Cartier Carter tacked on ten points apiece.

Argos Drop Another Close One
January 10 – The Notre Dame de Namur men’s basketball team dropped their second straight game in the closing minute as they fell 69-64 to Hawaii Hilo. The Argos hung tough with the Vulcans but ultimately fell after being outscored 22-5 at the free throw line.
NDNU came out quickly, using threes by Dan Bergeron and Bennie Murray to take an early 8-0 lead. The Vulcans stormed back with eleven straight points and eventually went ahead by 14 with a 25-4 run. The Argos cut the deficit to three at the break with a late 10-2 run.
The Argos kept the game close to start the second half before taking the lead 51-48 on a 3-pointer by Joshua Malloy with 8:24 remaining. The Vulcans responded well with a couple of quick buckets and took a six point lead into the final minute. NDNU whittled the deficit to one point on a three by Murray and a jumper by Victor Lee.
The Vulcans sealed the game with four straight free throws down the stretch as the Argos fell to 0-3 in PacWest play. For the game, UHH shot just under 40% while the Argos connected on 44% of their attempts. The Vulcans big advantage came at the free throw line as they made 22-30 while NDNU made just 5-9 from the charity stripe.
Andre Hayes paced four Argonauts in double figures with 15 points on 6-8 shooting. Murray added 13 points and three steals while Bergeron and Malloy tacked on 12 and 10 points respectively.
Bryan Ngo scored a game high 18 points for UHH while John Smith added 13 points. Jacob Briggs and Perry Baggett recorded ten points.

Argos Fall Short Against Chaminade
January 6 – The Notre Dame de Namur men’s basketball team fell just short of toppling conference power Chaminade as the Swords pulled out a 56-53 victory. The Argos countered several Chaminade runs and nearly tied the game in the final seconds on a three point attempt by Dan Bergeron.
The game started out in Chaminade’s favor as the visitors took a 25-14 lead and dominated the glass. However, the Argos ended the half on a 13-4 run, including the last eight points to pull within two at the break. Both team shot just under 40% for the half while the Argos kept close with 8-8 shooting from the free throw line.
Chaminade’s 3-point shooting continued to struggle in the second as the Swords finished the game 1-17 from the behind the arc. The Argos took their first lead of the game with just under 15 minutes remaining on a 3-pointer by Bennie Murray. However, the Sword responded with a 14-4 run to push ahead by nine.
The Argos would not go away, scoring the game next nine points before pulling into a 51-51 tie with 4:10 remaining. After the two teams exchanged free throws, the game remained tied with 1:15 left. The Sword scored the games final three points from the charity stripe to give them a 56-53 victory.
NDNU held the Swords to just 39% shooting, including just 6% from behind the arc. The Argos also forced seven second half turnover and committed just two of their own after the break.
Murray led the Argos with 16 points, 14 of which came in the second half. Joshua Malloy and Victor Hayes provided a spark off the bench with eight points each.
Mohamed Tangara posted a double-double for the Swords with 20 points and 10 rebounds while adding three blocks. Joel Smith also reached double figures with ten points.

Bench Keys Argonaut Win
January 3 – The Notre Dame de Namur men’s basketball team used 40 bench points and ten 3-pointers to outlast Grand Canyon 69-68. The Argos shot 53% from the field and 91% from the free throw line to improve to 4-7 on the season.
NDNU led for the entire game and were jump started by three straight threes to move ahead 9-2 in the opening minutes. After the ‘Lopes tied the score at 9-9, the Argos responded with seven straight to go ahead 16-9. Grand Canyon would pull within two before the game went to halftime with NDNU leading 30-25.
The Argos shot 63% in the first half and made 4-7 from long range while GCU shot just 32% from the field.
In the second half, the ‘Lopes pulled within one before NDNU scored ten straight points to take an eleven point advantage with 13:03 remaining. Grand Canyon would not back down as they score ten straight to once again pull within one points. After the Argos moved back ahead by seven with 3:41 left, Brandon McGruder and Milee Karre hit back-to-back 3-pointers to cut the deficit to one.
The NDNU free throw shooting iced the game as the Argos went 5-6 down the stretch and 17-18 in the second half.
The two leading scored for the Argonauts came off the bench as Joshua Malloy and Andre Hayes poured in 18 and 16 points respectively. Dan Bergeron recorded his second straight double-double with 12 points, 10 rebounds, six assists and three steals.
Engren Nurumbi led all players with 24 points and added eight rebounds and three blocks. McGruder finished with 12 points while Karee tacked on ten.

Grand Canyon Pushes Past NDNU
January 2 – The Notre Dame de Namur men’s basketball struggled in their conference opener as they fell to Grand Canyon 67-56. The Argos never led in the game and committed a season high 24 turnovers.
The Antelopes jumped out to an early lead with a quick 11-2 run to open the game. NDNU clawed their way back to within one late in the half with ten straight points. After a three by Brandon Dempster gave GCU a six point lead in the final second, Chris Silzer hit a running three at the buzzer to cut the deficit in half.
In the second half, the visitors pushed their advantage to twelve with a 13-2 run and never looked back. The Argos were able to within six in the final minutes, but GCU made their free throws to preserve the victory.
Dan Bergeron recorded a double-double for the Argonauts with 13 points and 11 rebounds while Deon Sharps added 14 points and seven rebounds. Andre Hayes and Victor Lee added nine points each off the bench.
David Cuen led all scorers with 22 points and nine rebounds while Engen Nurumbi added 17 points, six rebounds and four steals.

Argos Fall at CSU Monterey Bay
December 20 – In the final game before starting Pacific West Conference play, the Notre Dame de Namur men’s basketball team fell to CSU Monterey Bay 86-70. The Argos struggled in the first half and trailed by 22 before closing the gap in the second with a 44 point effort.
NDNU struggled from the field in the first half, hitting just 39% while the Otters shot 51%. The Argos kept the game within distance in the first, trailing 34-24 before CSU Monterey Bay finished the half on a 14-2 run.
In the second, the Argonaut offense came alive as connected on 16 of 28 shots. NDNU closed the deficit to 11 with just over two minutes remaining, but could not get any closer.
Three Argos set career highs in points, led by Deon Sharps 20 points and 12 rebounds. The double-double was Sharps first of his career as he hit 9-12 from the field. Freshman Bennie Murray poured in 20 points and added four rebounds while Andre Hayes tacked on 12 off the bench. Dan Bergeron also reach double figures with 10 points and six rebounds.
The Otters had four players in double figures with Steve Montreal leading the way with 18 points and nine assists. Warren Freeman added 16 points while Keith Wilson and Jose Sanchez added 12 and 11 points respectively.

Sharps Named PacWest Player of the Week
December 15 - Notre Dame de Namur senior center Deon Sharps was named the Pacific West Conference Player of the Week after his 13 point, four rebound performance in a loss to Santa Clara.
Sharps was the Argonauts leading scorer in their 67-47 loss to Division I Santa Clara. In addition to Sharps, Bennie Murray (12 points, three rebounds) and Dan Bergeron (nine points) were named to the PacWest Weekly Honor Roll.
Argos Stumble at Santa Clara
December 13 – In their second game against NCAA Division I competition of the season, the Notre Dame de Namur men’s basketball fell to Santa Clara 67-47. The Argos struggled in the first half before staying with the Broncos in the second.
The Argos held tough for the first 13 minutes, trailing just 11-7 with 7:03 remaining. However, Santa Clara ripped off a 21-7 run to close the half and took a 32-14 lead into the break. NDNU struggled in large part due to 25% shooting in the first while the Broncos made 52% from the field.
Santa Clara picked up where they left off to start the second, using a 21-9 run to push their advantage to 30. Over the final ten minutes the Argos made six 3-pointers, including three straight from Dan Bergeron to cut the margin to 20. The Argos shot 52% in the second half and made 7-13 threes.
Deon Sharps led the Argos with 13 points and four rebounds while Bennie Murray reached double figures for the sixth straight game with 12 points. Bergeron tacked on nine while Chris Silzer added five assists.
Kevin Foster led three Broncos in double figures with 17 points and knocked down 5-7 shots from 3-point range. John Bryant finished with 15 points, five rebounds and four assists while James Rahon scored 14 points.

Argos Win Second Straight, Down CSU Maritime 60-56
December 6 – The Notre Dame de Namur men’s basketball team pulled to 3-4 on the season with a hard fought 60-56 victory over CSU Maritime. The Argos held off several Keelhauler rallies in the second half to preserve the lead and earn the victory.
The beginning of the game was all NDNU as they Argonauts built a 15-7 lead in the opening minutes. However, CSU Maritime responded with a 12-2 run and took their first lead of the game at 19-17. The Argos closed the half strong with a 10-2 run and took a six point advantage into the break.
NDNU came out strong in the second half as well, pushing their lead to 15 after a pair of threes from Bennie Murray. With 10:05 left and the Argos leading by 12, CSU Maritime made another push, ripping off eight straight to cut the margin to four. After the Keelhaulers cut the lead to two in the final minute, Murray hit four straight free throws to keep the visitors at a distance.
Dan Bergeron led all players with 20 points on 9-13 shooting and added six rebounds and five assists. Murray also reached double figures with 14 points while Chris Silzer tacked on five assists and two blocks.
Four Keelhaulers scored in double figures, led by Alez Raj’s 15 points and eight rebounds. James Ferguson and Andrew Johnson added 11 each while Andrew Medeiros had 10 points and six assists.

Argos Use Big Second Half to Push Past Menlo
December 2 – The Notre Dame de Namur men’s basketball team earned their second victory of the season as they toppled Menlo College 61-52. The Argos used a big run to begin the second half to pull away and never look back.
The game started off perfect for NDNU as Bennie Murray and Chris Silzer hit back-to-back 3-pointers to give the Argos a 6-0 lead. After trading buckets a few minutes later, the Argos held a six point advantage at 13-7. The Oaks then went on a 9-0 run to take their first lead of the game and held the lead until the final second of the half. Down by two with less than ten second left in the first, Joshua Malloy grabbed a big offensive rebound and drew a foul. He then hit both his shots to tie the score at 25-25 at halftime.
The Argos came out gunning to start the second as they scored 13 of the first 15 points to take an eleven point advantage. After the lead swelled to 15, Menlo used ten straight points to cut the lead to five. However, NDNU continued its hot shooting in the half and never let the Oaks get any closer.
NDNU shot 48% from the field for the game, including 60% in the second half. They also held a 13-5 advantage from the charity stripe and committed two less turnovers.
Silzer poured in a career high 14 points to lead all scorers while Dan Bergeron and Bennie Murray each reached double figures with 11 and 10 points repectively. Murray also came up with three steals and Bergeron added six rebounds, four assists, a steal and a block.
Chris Cobb led three Oaks in double figures with 13 points. Julian Harris tacked on 12 while Craig Haberlein scored 11.

Argos Fall to Sonoma State
November 29 – The Notre Dame de Namur men’s basketball team could not rebound from Friday’s loss as they dropped their second straight game at the NDNU Thanksgiving Tournament, falling to Sonoma State 70-42. The Argos struggled from the field in the first half as they shot just 20%.
The Seawolves scored the first nine points of the game and took a 29-6 lead with just under seven minutes to play in half. Sonoma State shot 50% from the field and made 4-7 threes to take a commanding 35-13 lead at the half.
The Argos faired better in the second half as they shot 40% from the field and knocked down four 3-pointers. However, the Seawolves continued their hot shooting and connected on 54% of their shots.
Bennie Murray once again led the Argonauts in scoring with a 12 point effort while Dan Bergeron finished with 10 points, seven rebounds, two blocks and two steals.

In the early game, #11 Central Washington rebounded from their loss on Friday to topple UC San Diego 78-70. The Wildcats led wire-to-wire and built their advantage to as many as 17 in the second half. The Tritons would not go down easily as they cut the lead to four late in the game but could not get any closer.
Jake Beitinger followed up his 30 and 10 performance with 21 points and added two blocks. Matt Penoncello tacked on 19 points while Jake Spevak finished with eight points, seven rebounds and six assists.
Jordan Lawley scored a tournament high 31 points in defeat after connecting on 9-16 shots, including 4-6 from beyond the arc. Shane Poppen made ten free throws on his way to 14 points and seven rebounds while Kelvin Kim and Alan Husted tacked on 11 points apiece. BOX SCORE

November 28 – The Notre Dame de Namur men’s basketball team struggled on the first day of the NDNU Thanksgiving Tournament, falling to UC San Diego 76-53. The Argos struggled to find their shot in the opening half and never led in the game.
UC San Diego opened the game with nine straight points before the Argos scored seven straight to pull within two. NDNU held close until the closing minutes when the Tritons went on a 14-5 run to end the half.
The second half was much of the same as the Argos could not cut the lead below double digits. UCSD caught fire from the field, hitting 16-23 shots in the half and shooting close to 70%.
Bennie Murray led the Argos with 13 points, all of which came in the second half. Trent Henwood and Dan Bergeron tacked on nine and eight points respectively.
Jordan Lawley poured in a game high 17 points for UC San Diego while Alan Husted added 16 points, five assists and four rebounds. The two combined to shoot 12-20 from the field. BOX SCORE
In the first game of the tournament, Sonoma State shocked #11 Central Washington by a score of 81-74. The Seawolves led the entire way as they used a 14-0 run early in the first half to pull away. The Wildcats managed to cut the lead to four with just over a minute to play, but Sonoma State hit their free throws to clinch the game.
The Seawolves had four players in double figures, led by James Sandoval’s team high 20 points and six rebounds. Ben Washington scored 18 and added six assists while Mike Nelson and Keith Garner added 12 and 11 points respectively.
Jake Beitinger had a game high 30 points, 10 rebounds and three blocks to lead the Wildcats while Brandon Foote and Matt Penoncello each reached double figures as well. BOX SCORE

Argos Storm Past Golden State Baptist 100-42
November 22 – The Notre Dame de Namur men’s basketball team shot a blistering 67% from the field and knocked down 13 three-pointers on their way to a 100-42 victory over Golden State Baptist 100-42.
NDNU did not was any time jumping on the Bears as the home team started off the game with a 19-4 run. The Argos continued to stretch the lead thanks to some hot shooting from behind the arc by Jeff Berridge and John Funkhouser.
After taking a 50-24 lead into halftime, the Argos came out of the gates fast in the second half as well. Bennie Murray scored the first seven points of the half as NDNU pushed the margin to 40 with a 25-7 run. For the half, the Argos shot 79% from the field on 19 of 24 shooting.
The Argos made 13 of 24 shots from behind the arc and came up with 19 steals for the game.
Murray led four Argos in double figures with 14 points and finished with a game high four steals. John Funkhouser hit 5 of 6 shots on his way to 13 points while Victor Lee and Andre Hayes tacked on ten apiece. Dan Bergeron finished with nine points, seven rebounds and seven assists.
Ben Davis scored a game high 17 points for Golden State Baptist while Michael Brown added 12 points off the bench.

Argos Fall in Season Opener
November 15 – The Notre Dame de Namur men’s basketball team opened up their 2008-09 season with a tough defeat to St. Martin’s 65-56. The Argos struggled to get going in the first half before scoring 42 second half points to cut the deficit to nine.
The Saints did not waste anytime jumping on NDNU, taking a 26-5 lead with just under eight minutes left in the first half. The Argos struggled to get their shots as they managed just 22% shooting in the first while St. Martin’s shot 50%.
The Argos went into the break down 36-14 and things did not improve much at the beginning of the second. St. Martin’s built their margin to 30 before NDNU’s three-point shots started falling. With the Argos down 24 with five minutes remaining the threes came in bunches as they cut the lead to nine with five long range shots.
NDNU also turned it on defensively in the second half, limiting the Saints to 29 points and forcing 16 turnovers.
Jeff Berridge recorded a career high 13 points after hitting four second half threes while Dan Bergeron added a double-double with 10 points, 10 boards and three steals. Newcomer Chris Silzer scored nine points and picked up five steals.
Blake Pool paced the Saints with a game high 15 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. Dan Henze finished with 11 boards while Jake Linton tacked on eight points and seven assists.
The Argos are back in action tomorrow night when they face tournament host Seattle at 4:00 pm. BOX SCORE
Bergeron Named Preseason All-PacWest
October 31 – Notre Dame de Namur senior forward Dan Bergeron was selected to the Pacific West Preseason All-Conference Team. The Argos were picked to finish seventh in the conference with BYU Hawaii chosen as the front runner.
Bergeron is the school’s all-time leader in rebounds and ranked fourth in the PacWest in rebounds with 7.6. He also finished third on the team in scoring at 9.6 points per game and second in steals with 29.
Bergeron was one of seven players named to the Preseason All-Conference, including Player of the Year Lucas Alves of BYU Hawaii.
The Argos open the season on November 15th against St. Martin’s at the Seattle University Tournament.
Clock Playing Pro Ball in Germany
Former Notre Dame de Namur basketball standout Chris Clock is continuing his playing career overseas as a member of TV Jahn-Siegen in Germany. Clock, a First Team All-Pacific West Conference performer last season is already making his presence felt.
Through two games, Clock is averaging 17 points, six rebounds, seven assists and three steals while playing 40 minutes a game.
Clock, from Los Gatos finished his career at NDNU as the school’s all-time leader in three pointers made and is third in points scored. He led the Argos in scoring with 14.9 points per game last reason and finished fourth in the conference. Clock also led the PacWest with 2.6 three-pointers made per game.
He reached double figures in 20 of his 24 games this season and topped the 20-point mark six times. During his senior season, Clock made at least one three-pointer in 21 games and set a school record with nine triples against Grand Canyon on February 6th.
NDNU Basketball Signs Three Recruits
June 13 – The Notre Dame de Namur men’s basketball program and head coach George Puou have announced the signings of three recruits for the 2008-09 season. Guards Bennie Murray and Cheynne Lishman along with forward Trent Henwood will all join the Argos as freshman next season.
Murray, a 6-4 guard from Will C. Wood High School in Fairfield led the Wildcats to a 24-5 record last season while scoring 15.9 points per game. He was twice named an All-Monticello Empire League performer and earned League MVP honors as a sophomore.
Lishman, a 6-2 guard from Kailua, Hawaii earned All-State accolades in each of the past two seasons. As a junior, Lishman was named Second Team All-State before earning First Team honors as a senior. He is also a two-time All-League performer and was named the Oahu Interscholastic Association Player of the Year this season after scoring 18 points per game.
Henwood, a 6-6 forward from West Campus High in Sacramento is a two-time All-Capital Valley Conference performer. He averaged 13.3 points and 9.2 rebound last season while being named the Team’s MVP.
The Argos finished the 2007-08 season with a 10-16 overall record and tied for fifth in the conference.
Two Argos Earn All-Conference Accolades
March 13 – For the second straight year, Notre Dame de Namur men’s basketball players Chris Clock and Ryan Cooper received All-Pacific West Conference honors. Clock was named to the First Team while Cooper earned Second Team recognition.
Clock, a senior guard from Los Gatos was named First Team All-PacWest after leading the Argos in scoring with 14.9 points per game. He ranked fourth in the conference in scoring while leading d the team and finishing first in the PacWest with 2.6 three-pointers made per game. Clock reached double figures in 20 of his 24 games this season and topped the 20-point mark six times. The senior also made at least one three-pointer in 21 games and set a school record with nine triples against Grand Canyon on February 6th. Clock scored a career high 28 points against BYU Hawaii in January and concluded his career third all-time at NDNU in scoring. He is also the schools all-time leader in three-pointers made with 182.
Cooper, a senior point guard from San Jose earned Second Team All-PacWest recognition with another outstanding season. Cooper improved his numbers across the board after receiving Second Team honors last season. He led the team with 101 assists, ranking fourth in the conference with 3.9 per game. He finished second on the team and sixth in the PacWest in scoring with 14.3 points per game. The senior also ranked top-five in the conference in free throw percentage (86%), three-point percentage (49%) and three-pointers made (2.3) while leading the PacWest with 960 minutes played. Cooper scored in double figures 20 times, including a stretch of ten straight games. He topped the 20-point mark six times and set a career high with 29 points in a double overtime win against Hawaii Pacific in January. Cooper ends his three year career at NDNU ranked in the top-5 in points, assists, three-pointers made, free throw percentage, minutes and field goals.
The Argos concluded the season with a 10-16 overall record and tied for fifth in conference.

First Half Slump Dampens Senior Night
March 1 – Seven Notre Dame de Namur men’s basketball players appeared in their final collegiate game Saturday night, a 75-58 loss to Chaminade. The Argos finished the year in fifth place in PacWest with a 6-12 conference record.
NDNU struggled to get the offense going in the first half, hitting just one of their first eleven shots and falling behind 16-2. The Argos responded and cut the lead to six but the Swords went on another run to take a 37-19 lead into the break.
After Chaminade pushed the lead to 24 in the second half, NDNU would not get closer than 14 the rest of the way. The Argos shot 46% in the second, but made just 26% of their attempts in the first.
The story of the game was the rebounding differential with the Swords out boarding NDNU 51-22. The visitors held a 33-11 advantage in the first half and came up with 18 offensive rebounds.
Chris Edwards saved his best game for last, scoring a career high 23 points and hitting the first two three-pointers of his career. Aaron Parker finished with 12 points and six rebounds while Ryan Cooper six assists.
Hayden Heiber led the Swords with 20 points, 10 rebounds and six assists while Marko Kolaric racked up 13 points and 16 rebounds. Stewart Kussler added 18 points and eight rebounds on 8-13 shooting. BOX SCORE
Argos to be Featured on CSTV Broadband Webcast
February 29 - On Saturday, March 1, the Notre Dame de Namur University men and women's basketball teams will close out their 2007-08 season with a doubleheader against Chaminade University. The doubleheader will be captured live and webcasted by the College Sports Television (CSTV) at CSTV.com. The games are part of the network's national broadband video webcast package partnership with NCAA Division II.
The NDNU women can clinch second place in the Pacific West with a victory over the Swords while the men look to clinch fifth place with a win over the Conference Champions.
Action gets kicked off with the women's game at 5:30 pm. The men's game will follow at 7:30 pm.
Saturday will also feature senior day for the two programs, with the women honoring five seniors and the men honoring seven.

Argos Fall at Dixie
February 27 – The Notre Dame de Namur men’s basketball team dropped their final road game of the season, falling to Dixie State 75-68. The Argos could not overcome a 30-13 disadvantage from the charity stripe and moved to 6-11 in PacWest play.
After seven lead changes in the first ten minutes of action, NDNU opened up a seven point margin after a 10-2 run. The Rebels responded by scoring the five straight points and the Argonauts took a four point advantage into the break.
The Argos kept the lead for the first five minutes of the second before Dixie ripped off a 17-2 run to take a 12 point lead. However, NDNU scored the next nine to cut the margin to three, but would not get any closer.
Dixie State made 30-33 free throws for the game, including 20-22 in the second half. The Rebels also hit 62% of their shots in the second half while NDNU converted at 46%.
Ryan Cooper led all players with 28 points, 17 of which came in the second half. Cooper hit four three-pointers and added five assists. Dan Bergeron added nine points and four steals while Aaron Parker also finished with nine points.
Dixie was pace by four players in double figures with Kasey Winters scoring 17 points and grabbing seven rebounds.

Balanced Attack Pushes Argos Past GCU
February 23 – All five Notre Dame de Namur starters scored in double figures as the Argos stormed past Grand Canyon 81-69. The Argos were solid all-around and held a 42-27 rebounding advantage while improving to 6-10 in PacWest play.
Grand Canyon came out firing, taking a 14-6 lead just five minutes into the game. However, after a NDNU timeout, the Argos rattled off an 11-3 run to tie the score. The lead changed hands four more times in the half before the Argos took a four point advantage into the break.
The second half was a different story as NDNU never trailed after opening the period with a 10-3 run. The ‘Lopes would never pull closer that six points for the rest of half while the Argonauts hit their free throws down the stretch to preserve the victory.
Chris Clock led five Argos in double figures with 18 while Aaron Parker and Ryan Cooper added 15 and 13 respectively. Dan Bergeron turned in a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds and Chris Edwards finished with 10 points and two blocks.
Rudy Bogan hit five three-pointers on his way to a game high 22 points for GCU.

Argos Struggle in Second Half, Fall at HPU
February 16 – In their attempt to sweep the season series with Hawaii Pacific, the Notre Dame de Namur men’s basketball came up short, falling 71-61. The Argos moved to 5-10 in PacWest play with three games remaining.
NDNU came out firing in the first half, connecting on 67% of their shots but only taking a one point lead into the break. The Argos led by as many as nine in the first, but ten turnovers allowed the Sea Warriors to remain close.
HPU scored the first seven points of the second half to take the lead for good. The Sea Warriors shot 53% in the half and built their margin to as many as 17 in the final minutes.
Ryan Cooper connected on 4-5 three-pointers to lead the Argonauts with 18 points. Chris Clock added 10 while Eric Bossom finished with eight points and nine rebounds.
Rishi Kakad led all scorers with 28 points on 9-12 shooting while Jason Curtis tacked on 14 points.
The Argos return home to take on Grand Canyon this Saturday before closing out the season with Dixie State and Chaminade the following week, BOX SCORE
Argos Finish Strong, Take Down HPU
February 15 – The Notre Dame de Namur men’s basketball team improved to 5-9 in PacWest play with an impressive 71-59 victory over Hawaii Pacific. The Argos started off strong, dominating the first half and taking a 34-19 lead into the break.
NDNU held the Sea Warriors to 25% shooting in the half while closing the half with a 13-1 run. After pushing the difference to 18 to start the second, HPU ripped off a 26-6 run to take a two point lead.
The Argos took the lead for good on a three from Dan Bergeron with 8:01 left and hit 9-11 from the free throw line in the final minutes to preserve the victory.
Bergeron came up big for the Argos, hitting 7 of 11 from the field and leading the team with 20 points and seven rebounds. Chris Clock drained five three-pointers on his was to 19 points while Eric Bossom also reached double figures with ten.
Jason Curtis led HPU with 20 points while Rishi Kakad and Logan Wolf added 14 and 10 points respectively.

BYU Hawaii Storms Past Argos
February 13 – The Seasiders used a fast start and big second half run to take down the Notre Dame de Namur men’s basketball team 90-65. The Argos moved to 4-9 in Pacific West play with five games left to play.
BYU Hawaii came out fast, taking an early 19-8 lead before going to the break with a 40-28 margin. The Argos shot 49% for the half, but committed nine turnovers and allowed the Seasiders to hit at a 59% clip.
The Argos cut the difference to six early in the second half, but a 26-4 BYU run put the game out of reach. NDNU struggled from the field in the second while the Seasiders once again shot over 50%.
Chris Clock paced the Argonauts with 19 points, 12 of which came in the second half. Chris Edwards added 12 points while Ryan Cooper tacked on 11 points and four assists. Dan Bergeron just missed a double-double, finishing with nine points and ten rebounds.
Lucas Alves led five Seasiders in double figures with 21 points and seven rebounds. Corey Nielson and Nathan Sims both came off the bench to score 12 points each while Trenson Akana and Jeremy Brown finished with 11 and 10 points respectively.

February 7 – The Notre Dame de Namur men’s basketball could not overcome a nine point halftime deficit, falling to Grand Canyon 74-67. The Argos moved to 4-8 in PacWest play with the loss.
Grand Canyon started off hot, shooting 52% in the first half and leading by as many 13 points. The ‘Lopes pushed the lead to as many as 17 in the second, but the Argonauts would not go away.
Ryan Cooper’s three with 26 seconds left cut GCU’s lead to three but NDNU would not get any closer. The Antelopes hit four free throws down the stretch to preserve the victory.
Chris Clock led all scorers with 21 points, hitting three 3-pointers and making all eight of his free throws. Cooper finished with 12 points and Dan Bergeron added 10 for NDNU.
Four ‘Lopes finished in double figures with Ty Morrison and Rudy Bogan leading the way with 18 points each. Andray Glenn and Milee Karre tacked on 17 and 13 points respectively.
The Argos are off to Hawaii next week for three games before returning home to face Grand Canyon on February 23. BOX SCORE
Clock Drains Nine Threes, Argos Topple Grand Canyon
February 6 – Senior guard Chris Clock set a NDNU single game record with nine 3-pointers as the Argos defeated PacWest rival Grand Canyon 77-66. As a team, the Argos hit 14-20 from behind the arc and improved to 4-7 in conference play with the victory.
The Argos jumped out early, using an 18-5 run to take a 12 point lead with just under six minutes remaining in the first half. Clock missed his first three of the half before drilling seven in a row to help NDNU take a 40-28 lead into the break.
For the half, the Argos shot 54%, including 10-14 from behind the arc while holding the ‘Lopes to 41% from the field.
Clock stayed hot to start the second, hitting his next two 3-pointers to give him nine made threes in a row. However, it was senior point guard Ryan Cooper who carried the Argos in the second half. After scoring just three points in the first, Cooper rebounded with 16 in the second. He also scored 14 straight Argonaut points in the final six minute to preserve the victory.
The Argonauts were even better in the second half, hitting at 59% for the half. Clock finished the game 9-11 from 3-point range to finish with 27 points. Cooper added 19 and four assists while Chris Edwards tacked on a double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds.
Four Antelopes reached double figures with Ty Morrison’s 17 leading the way. Rudy Bogan, Ladi Makinde and Milee Karre added 15, 13 and 12 respectively.
These two teams do battle again tomorrow night in Phoenix for the second of three match-ups this season. BOX SCORE
Cooper’s Late Game Heroics Lifts Argos Past Dixie State
February 2 – Senior point guard Ryan Cooper scored the Argos final seven points to help NDNU defeat Dixie State 52-47. The Argos improved to 3-7 in PacWest play with the victory while the Rebels fell to 5-5.
The first half was tough for both teams with the Argos taking a 21-20 lead into the break. NDNU shot just 31% from the field, but forced the Rebels into 18 turnovers. Neither team scored in the final five minutes of action.
Dixie started off strong in the second half and took six point at the halfway mark. The Argos battled back to tie the game on four occasions but Kasey Winters put the Rebels up four with 2:30 remaining.
After Chris Clock drilled a jumper to make it a two point game, Cooper drained a three with 1:18 left to give the Argos their first lead since the 18:41 mark. The Argos then came up with a defensive stop before Cooper rattled in a fade away jumper with 19 seconds left to push the lead to three.
Cooper would then answer a Winters lay-up with two free throws to put NDNU back up by three. Dixie then turned the ball over on the inbound and Clock found Chris Edwards for a dunk to end the game.
Two Argos reached double figures with Cooper scoring 16 and Clock adding 12. Aaron Parker came up big on the defensive end with four steals.
Ryan Sanchez scored a game high 18 for the Rebels while Winters added 16 points, 11 rebounds and four assists.
The Argos are back in action next Wednesday and Thursday when they travel to Grand Canyon to take on the ‘Lopes. BOX SCORE
Dixie State Topples Argos
February 1 – The Notre Dame de Namur men’s basketball team could not hold off Dixie State, falling 74-72 in a nailbiter. The Argos jumped out to a big first half lead, but squandered it to the Rebels.
NDNU shot 59% from the field in the first half to build a double digit lead before taking a nine point cushion into the break.
The second half was a different story as the Rebels used a 15-0 run to take their first lead of the game with just under 14 minutes left. The Argos continued to fight back, cutting the lead to one several times, but could not retake the lead.
With the Argos trailing by two in the final seconds, Ryan Cooper’s game winning 3-pointer rimmed out and preserved the Dixie State victory.
The Rebels were on fire in the second half, hitting 65% of their shots and 11-13 free throws. NDNU shot at a 50% clip in the second half but were outscored 17-6 at the charity stripe.
Dan Bergeron led four Argonauts in doubled figures with 20 points. Chris Clock scored 13 second half points to finish with 16 while Aaron Parker and Chris Edwards added 12 and 11 respectively. Cooper finished with seven points and eight assists.
Ryan Sanchez and Kasey Winters did most of the damage for the Rebels, combining for 56 points. Sanchez hit 12 of his first 13 shots on his was to a game high 32. Winters turned it on in the second half to finish with 24 points and seven rebounds.
The Argos moved to 2-7 in PacWest play while Dixie State improved to 5-4. These two schools will square off again tomorrow night at 7:30 pm at Walter Gleason Gym. BOX SCORE
Cooper Named Pacific West Player of the Week
January 28 – Senior point guard Ryan Cooper was chosen as the PacWest Player of the Week for the week of January 21-27. Cooper led the Argos to a 2-1 week with victories over Hawaii Pacific on Wednesday and Hawaii Hilo on Saturday.
Cooper averaged a team high 20.7 points and 5.7 assists per game, ranking third and second in the league respectively. He shot 51% from the field (19-37), was perfect from the free throw line (14-14) and hit 10-19 from behind the arc. For the week, Cooper averaged 3.33 three-pointers made per game and posted a 2.8 assist/turnover ratio.
The Argos opened the week with an 82-78 double overtime victory against Hawaii Pacific. Cooper led all scorers in the game with 29 points, 22 of which came in the first half. He played 48 minutes in the game and finished with five assists and did not commit a turnover. Cooper shot 10-16 from the field and 5-8 from three-point range.
On Friday, Cooper scored 10 points, dished out six assists and came up with three steals in a 75-70 loss to Hawaii Hilo.
Cooper responded on Saturday with a game high 23 points and six assists in an 87-73 victory over UHH. Cooper went 3-4 from 3-point range and hit all ten of his free throws.
In addition to an outstanding week, Cooper also moved into second place in NDNU history in career assists with 249.
Senior Chris Edwards was also selected to the PacWest Weekly Honor Roll after averaging 11.3 points, 5.3 rebounds and 2.67 blocks over three games. Edwards reached double figures in all three games and recorded a team season high five blocks on Wednesday.
NDNU is back in action Friday and Saturday night against Dixie State. The Argos and Rebels tip-off at 7:30 pm each night at Walter Gleason Gym.
Huge Run Pushes Argos Past Hawaii Hilo
January 26 – The Notre Dame de Namur men’s basketball team earned their second Pacific West Conference victory with an 87-73 win over Hawaii Hilo. The Argos used a huge run to end the first and another to open the second to hold off the Vulcans.
UHH led for much of the first half and took a 27-20 lead with 6:24 left. However, the Argos responded with a 16-3 run to close out the first and took a 36-30 advantage into the second half. Jeff Berridge and Ryan Cooper each hit a three in the final minute, with Cooper’s coming as the buzzer sounded.
The Argos picked up their run in the second half, outscoring the Vulcans 19-6 over the first eight minutes to push their margin to 17. Overall, the Argos went on a 35-9 run to end the first and start the second. Hilo would never cut the lead to single digits as the Argos hit 26 of their final 27 free throws to preserve the victory.
NDNU shot a season best 53% from the field and also hit 6-9 from 3-point range. The Argos also converted 33-41 from the charity stripe, including 88% in the second half.
Ryan Cooper once again led NDNU with 23 points and six assists. He was also perfect from the free throw line, hitting all ten of his attempts. Cooper also moved into second in NDNU history in career assists with 249. Aaron Parker made 11 free throws on his way to a career high 17 points. Jeff Berridge also set a career high with 12 points while Chris Edwards added ten points and Dan Bergeron grabbed ten rebounds.
Jacob Briggs paced the Vulcans with 19 points off the bench. Jay De Maestri also reached double figures with 13.
The Argos stay at home next week with a pair of games against Dixie State. The Rebels come to Walter Gleason Gym on Friday and Saturday night with both games scheduled to start at 7:30 pm. BOX SCORE
Clock Set School Record, Argos Fall to Hawaii Hilo
January 25 – On a night that saw Chris Clock set the school record for career 3-pointers, the Notre Dame de Namur men’s basketball dropped a tough one to Hawaii Hilo 75-70. The Argos led for most of the game before the Vulcans pushed ahead in the final minutes to earn the win.
Senior Chris Clock knocked down two first half threes to give him 151 career triples and the all-time record. The mark of 150 was previously held by Martin Castro.
With the score tied at 24-24 in the first, the Argos ripped off a 10-0 run. After the Vulcans cut the lead to with 28 second left, Clock’s record breaking three gave NDNU at five point halftime lead.
The Argos pushed their margin to eight in the second half before UHH used a 9-1 run to take the lead with just under five minutes to play. NDNU would tied the score with three minutes remaining before the Vulcans pushed ahead for good.
All five Argo starters reached double figures for the first time this season. Clock led the way with 16 points while Aaron Parker and Chris Edwards added 13 apiece. Dan Bergeron finished with 11 points and nine rebounds while Ryan Cooper tacked on 10 points, six assists and three steals.
John Smith led the Vulcans with 16 points, four assists and five rebounds. He also made 4-5 from behind the arc. Samuel Wilhoite and Vince Alvarado also reached double figures, scoring 15 and 12 points respectively.
The Argos moved to 5-10 on the season and are 1-6 in PacWest play while UHH improved to 5-3 in the conference and 9-6 overall. These two schools will tipoff again tomorrow night for their third and final meeting of the season. BOX SCORE
Argos Win Double Overtime Thriller
January 23 – NDNU and visiting Hawaii Pacific needed ten extra minutes to decide Wednesday night’s Pacific West Conference contest. The Argos eventually prevailed in double overtime, taking down the Sea Warriors 82-78.
The first half featured 11 lead changes before NDNU built an eight point lead with a quick 7-0 run in the final minute. However, Jason Curtis’s three with five second remaining made the score 40-35 going into the break.
The Argos shot 56% in the half and were led by Ryan Cooper’s 22 points on 8-11 shooting.
In the second, HPU took the lead with just under ten minutes remaining and built their margin to nine with 5:03 left. NDNU responded and forced a tie with 1:22 left. After a pair of free throws by Rishi Kakad gave HPU a two point lead, Chris Clock knocked down a jumper with seven seconds left to force overtime.
Neither team could get things going in the first overtime as both went scoreless in the final minute to send the game to a second overtime.
Junior Dan Bergeron took over the game in the second overtime for the Argos, scoring six of the team’s 11 points and grabbing five rebounds. Bergeron secured two big offensive rebounds in the period and scored on both giving NDNU a four point victory.
Cooper led all scorers with 29 points and added five assists. He also knocked down five 3-pointers and did not commit a turnover. Chris Clock added 22 points while Aaron Parker tacked on 11 points and four rebounds. Chris Edwards turned in a big game of his own, finishing with 11 points, eight rebounds and a career high five blocks. Bergeron did most of his damage in the final overtime, finishing with eight points and nine rebounds.
Justonn Smith led HPU with 20 points, eight rebounds and three steals while Ryan Walker added 16 points on five threes. Rishsi Kakad scored 13 points and Jason Curtis tacked on 12.

Chaminade Downs Argos
January 19 – The Notre Dame de Namur men’s basketball team struggled in the final game of their first Hawaii trip, falling to Chaminade 63-51.
The Argos shot just 35% from the field for the game including 7-23 in the second half. The Swords did not fair much better, hitting just 38% but knocked down six 3-pointers and 19 free throws.
Ryan Cooper and Chris Edwards scored 14 points each for the Argos while Aaron Parker added 10 points. Dan Bergeron grabbed a game high nine rebounds.
Marko Kolaric shot 8-10 from the field and finished with a game high 23 points for Chaminade. Rodrick Johnson tacked on 16 points and eight rebounds.

Argos Struggle in First Half, Fall to Chaminade
January 18 – The Notre Dame de Namur men’s basketball found themselves down big early on before falling to Chaminade 66-58.
The Swords started the game on a 19-5 run and built their lead to as many as 17 with just over two minutes remaining. However, the Argos responded by scoring the half’s final eight points to cut the difference to nine.
The Argos cut the margin to four in the second half before the Swords put the game away with a 12-2 run. Chaminade was held to just 38% shooting for the game, but grabbed 20 offensive rebounds and outscored NDNU at the free throw line 21-4.
Ryan Cooper led the Argos with 20 points, 13 of which came in the second half. Chris Clock added 15 points while Dan Bergeron tacked on 14 points and nine rebounds.
Rodrick Johnson poured in a game high 27 points for Chaminade and added ten rebounds. Marko Kolaric recorded a double-double with 13 points and 15 rebounds.

Hilo Storms Back, Downs NDNU
January 16 – Hawaii Hilo scored 17 of the games final 19 points to overcome and 13 point deficit and defeat Notre Dame de Namur 70-68. The Argos led 66-53 with 4:30 left to play before the Vulcans caught fire and won on a jumper by John Smith with one second remaining.
The Argos struggled out of the gate, trailing by as many as ten in the opening minutes. However, Dan Bergeron’s 18 first half points helped NDNU take a two point lead into the break.
After capping off an 18-3 run in the second half, the Argos built their margin to as many as 15 with just over six minutes remaining. The Vulcans then hit five of their final six shots, including Smith’s jumper in the final second to pull ahead.
Bergeron turned in a career game for NDNU, posting a double-double with 24 points and 12 rebounds. Ryan Cooper and Chris Clock also reach double figures with 11 points each. Cooper added a game high six assists.
Jay De Maestri came off the bench to lead the Vulcans with 17 points while John Smith added 15. Samuel Wilhoite and Jacob Briggs recorded 12 points each as UHH held a 24-11 advantage from the free throw line.

Argos Struggle in First Half, Fall to BYU Hawaii
January 3 – With the Argos struggling in the first half, BYU Hawaii built a double digit lead and staged off a comeback attempt to down NDNU 55-41.
The Seasiders used a 21-4 run and held the Argos to 22% shooting in the first half. After NDNU took an early 10-9 lead, BYU Hawaii rattled off 10 straight and held the Argos without a field goal for nearly eight minutes.
After taking a 16 point margin in to the break, the Seasiders pushed the lead to 20 before the Argos whittled it down to eight with 5:36 left. However, BYU would not let it get any closer, grabbing 11 offensive rebounds in the second and forcing several key turnovers.
The Argos held the Seasiders to 1-13 shooting from behind the arc and forced 19 turnovers but struggled offensively. NDNU managed to hit just 3-13 from 3-point range, and despite shooting 52% in the second half they finished just 35% from the field.
Ryan Cooper and Chris Clock both struggled from the field on the night, both hitting just 4-12 shots each and scoring 11 and 10 points respectively. Dan Bergeron added six points and nine rebounds while Chris Edwards tacked on eight points.
The Argos held the PacWest’s leading scorer Lucas Alves to just 14 points, including just one in the second half. Alves came into the game averaging 26 points per game but went 0-7 from the field in the second. He also finished with 10 rebounds while Paul Peterson added 13 points.

Argos Drop Conference Opener to BYU Hawaii
January 2 – After an impressive first half that saw NDNU storm out to a 12 point lead, BYU Hawaii overtook the Argos in the second and won 70-63.
The PacWest opener started out well for the Argonauts, using a 14-2 run to take a 31-19 lead with 2:31 left in the first. The Seasiders ended the half with a small rally and went into halftime down eight.
The second was a different story, as BYU used a 23-4 run to push their margin to seven points. The Argos continued to fight back, cutting the deficit to two with just under four minutes left. However, the Seasiders hit their free throws down the stretch to earn a seven point victory.
Chris Clock carried the NDNU offense, pouring in a career high 28 points on 9-16 shooting. Clock hit five 3-pointers on the game and was 5-6 from the line. Ryan Cooper was the only other Argo in double figures with 10 points while adding eight assists.
The PacWest leading scorer Lucas Alves had a solid game with 19 points and nine rebounds while senior guard Paul Peterson hit 9-10 free throws and finished with 16 points and five assists. Jermaine Odjegba tacked on 14 points for the Seasiders.

Argos Handle Menlo in Final Non-Conference Test
December 29 - The Notre Dame de Namur men's basketball team closed out their non-conference schedule with a 68-51 victory over Menlo College. The Argos used a 15-1 run to end the first half to take a 16 point lead into the break.
NDNU shot a blistering 61% in the first half and finished the game at 50%. Ryan Cooper led the Argos with a game high 19 points while hitting 4-4 from behind the arc. Dan Bergeron just missed a double-double, finishing with nine points and 13 rebounds. Sophomore Jeff Berridge tacked on a career high 11 points on 4-4 shooting and Chris Clock also added 11 points.

Bergeron’s Big First Half Leads Argos over CSU Stanislaus
December 15 – Junior forward Dan Bergeron scored 18 of his 22 points in the first half to help the Notre Dame de Namur men’s basketball team defeat Cal State Stanislaus 75-65. The Argos shot 10-18 from behind the arc as a team and hit 15 second half free throws to bust the game open.
NDNU came out of the gates strong, taking a 19-5 lead in the first seven minutes. Bergeron scored 12 of those 19 points on 5-5 shooting. After the Argos took a five point lead into the break, the Warriors took their first lead of the game at 40-39. However, NDNU rattled off nine straight points and never looked back.
Bergeron hit his first seven shots of the night and eventually finished with 22 points and seven rebounds. Ryan Cooper knocked down five 3-pointers on his way to 15 points while Aaron Parker also tacked on 15. Chris Clock finished with 12 points and Dustin Graul chipped in eight points and 12 rebounds. The Argos starters combined for 72 of the team’s 75 points for the game.
Scott Behrs registered a double-double for the Warriors, scoring 16 points and grabbing 14 rebounds. Heath Colvin also scored 16 while Duane Jones added eight.

Argos Drop Two at Ron Logsdon Classic
December 8 – The Notre Dame de Namur men’s basketball team came up short against a pair of CCAA teams, falling 79-56 to Humboldt State and 63-59 to Sonoma State. The Argos, who traveled to Sonoma for the Ron Logsdon Classic struggled on Friday against the Jacks before nearly upsetting the home team on Saturday.
In Friday’s contest, Humboldt used a 20-2 first half run to jump out to a 43-25 halftime lead. The Argos held the rebounding advantage 35-30 but committed 22 turnovers to just seven from HSU.
Chris Clock knocked down six 3-pointers on his way to a team high 20 points. Chris Edwards tacked on nine points while Dan Bergeron added six points and eight rebounds.
Devin Peel scored a game high 21 points and CY Vandermeer poured in 15 points and grabbed eight rebounds to pace the Lumberjacks. BOX SCORE
On Saturday, the Argos started slow, falling behind 13-7 before using a 12-0 run to take a six point lead. The Seawolves rallied back and took a two point advantage into the break. NDNU struggled in the second, falling behind by as many as 11 with just four minutes to play. However, the Argos cut the deficit to just two with an 11-2 run before Andrew Kochevar knocked down a three in the final minute to put the game out of reach.
Clock once again paced the Argos offense, scoring a game high 19 points and earning a spot on the Ron Logsdon All-Tournament Team. Aaron Parker and Dustin Graul each chipped in 10 points while Dan Bergeron finished with seven points, six rebounds and four steals.
Kochevar scored all 13 of his points in the second half and Blake Saunders tacked on 11 to pace the Seawolves.
The Argos moved to 2-4 on the season and take on their fifth straight CCAA team on Saturday, December 15th when CSU Stanislaus comes to Walter Gleason Gym for a 7:30 tip. BOX SCORE
Argos Fall to CSU Monterey Bay
November 24 – Augie Johnston poured in 25 points as CSU Monterey Bay toppled the Notre Dame de Namur men’s basketball team 63-55 on Day 2 of the NDNU Thanksgiving Classic. The Argos struggled from the field in the second half and were out rebounded 36-26 in the defeat.
After taking an early 5-2 lead, NDNU would never lead again as the Otter built their cushion to 11 in the second half. The Argos would cut the lead to three in with 6:39 left after back-to-back threes by Ryan Cooper and Dan Bergeron. However, CSUMB would not let it get any closer, scoring the next four points.
Ryan Cooper scored 25 points for the Argos and added five assists, three rebounds and knocked down five 3-pointers. Aaron Parker tacked on 11 points, four assists and three steals. Along with Johnston’s 25, D’Shon Cannon added 15 points, 6 assists and 6 rebounds. Joe Mitchell scored 8 points, grabbed 11 rebounds, dished out five assists and picked up three steals.
Cooper was named to the All-Tournament Team for NDNU after averaging 16.5 points and 4.5 assists in two games. Johnston and Mitchell were named to the team for CSU Monterey Bay. BOX SCORE

November 24 - For the second day in a row, Seattle jumped out to a big lead and never trailed in pulling out a victory at the NDNU Thanksgiving Classic. The Redhawks jumped on the Gators early, scoring the first nine points on their way to a 79-60 victory.
In the first half, Seattle led by as many as 16 before taking a 13 point cushion into the break. The Gators would never cut the lead under 10 in the second as the Redhawks shot a blistering 62.5 percent in the second half.
Ricky Berry scored a game high 20 points on six of ten shooting while Shaun Burl added 15 points and six assists. Leigh Swanson and Mike Boxley tacked on 11 and 10 respectively. Alex Thomas led San Francisco State with 14 points and Robert Hayes added 11.
Burl was named the NDNU Thanksgiving Classic’s Most Outstanding Player after averaging 17 points and 5 assists in two games. Michael Wright (Seattle) and Robert Hayes (San Francisco State) were named to the All-Tournament Team. BOX SCORE
Argos Rally Back, Take Down San Francisco State
November 23 – The Notre Dame de Namur men’s basketball team pulled off another one point victory, downing San Francisco State 61-60 at the NDNU Thanksgiving Classic. The Argos struggled from the field in the second half, but made clutch free throws down the stretch to preserve the victory.
The first half remained tight throughout with neither team leading by more than four points. In the second half, the Argos pushed ahead using a 15-4 run to build a 13 point cushion. However, the Gators caught fire, making seven straight shots and taking a four point lead with 2:36 left.
With the Argos down two, Jonathon Benavente and Eric Bossom combined to make six straight free throws and give NDNU a four point lead. After a Chris Rodriguez 3-pointer cut the deficit to one, the Gators could not get a shot off in their final possession.
Dustin Graul scored a team high 12 points for NDNU, going 4-4 from the field and 4-4 from the line. Aaron Parker made 8-9 free throws and finished with 10 points. Five other Argonauts scored at least seven points while Chris Edwards grabbed a team high six rebounds.
Ryan Wessels paced the Gators off the bench, pouring in 16 points, collecting six rebounds and blocking three shots. Chris Rodriguez tacked on 13, while Robert Hayes also reached double figures with 10.

Seattle Nips CSU Monterey 74-71
November 23 – The opening game of the NDNU Thanksgiving Classic turned from a one-sided game to a nail biter, as Seattle held off CSU Monterey Bay 74-71. The Redhawks built their lead to 21 points in the second half before the Otters whittled it down to 2 with just 18 seconds left. After a Shaun Burl free throw pushed the lead to five, Augie Johnston’s 3-pointer at the buzzer fell short.
Seattle shot 48% for the game and knocked down eight 3-pointers while the Otters hit just 41% of their shorts. However, CSUMB connected on all 17 of their free throws, including 11-11 in the second half.
Burl led the Redhawks with 19 points and four assists while Michael Wright recorded a double-double, scoring 10 and grabbing 12 boards. Ryan Coldren was the final Seattle player in double figures with 11.
The Otters were paced by Johnston’s game high 20 points and three other players in double figures. Joe Mitchell tacked on a double-double with 14 points, 11 rebounds and six assists while Jose Sanchez and D’Shon Cannon added 13 apiece.
Both teams are back in action tomorrow night with Seattle playing in the early game against San Francisco State. Monterey Bay will take on host school Notre Dame de Namur at 7:00 pm. BOX SCORE
Last Second Free Throw Lifts Argos Over Central Washington in Overtime
November 16 – The Notre Dame de Namur and Central Washington men’s basketball teams needed an extra five minutes to determine who would win the opening game of the 2007-08 season. The Argos would eventually prevail on a Dan Bergeron free throw with two seconds left to down the host school 85-84.
The first half was all NDNU, as they used runs of 13-3 and 11-2 to take a nine point lead into the break. However, the Wildcats responded in the second half, erasing the deficit and taking a 50-49 lead with 10:53 left to play. The Argos pushed back ahead and led by six with three minutes remaining, but CWU scored seven of the last eight points to send the game into overtime. In the extra session, NDNU never trailed, eventually taking the lead for good with Bergeron’s free throw.
The Argos shot 51% for the game, including 54% in the first half, and hit 11 of 21 from behind the arc. Ryan Cooper led all scorers with 25 points, hitting 5-6 from three and all eight of his free throws. Chris Clock knocked down four threes of his own on the way to 21 points in just 16 minutes. Bergeron recorded a double double, scoring 13 points and grabbing 14 rebounds while Aaron Parker also reached double figures with 10 points.
Jake Beitinger led Central Washington with 23 points while Brandon Foote added 20 off the bench.

Cooper Selected to Preseason All-Conference Team
November 7 – NDNU senior point guard Ryan Cooper was selected to the Pacific West Preseason All-Conference team. The Argos were picked to finish sixth in the conference while BYU Hawaii was chosen as the favorites.
Cooper, one of seven players to be selected to the team, was a Second Team All-PacWest performer last season. He finished tied for the team lead and was ninth in the conference in scoring last season, averaging 11.9 points per game. He also led the PacWest in free throw percentage, hitting 86% from the charity stripe and was fourth in assists with 3.7 per game. Cooper upped his scoring to 12.1 points per game and assists 3.93 per game in conference play while his 2.68 assist to turnover ratio ranked first in the Pacific West.
“I am really looking forward to this year.” Coach George Puou said. “We only lost one player from last year’s team so we had most of the puzzle in place. We have a veteran team with nine seniors who should provide us with leadership and experience. The guys have really worked hard this fall and are focusing on making a run at the PacWest Championship.
The Argos will open their season on November 16th against Central Washington at the Central Washington Tournament.
Men’s Basketball Announces Summer Camp Schedule
April 12 – The NDNU men’s basketball program and Coach George Puou has announced the schedule for a pair of basketball camps to be held at NDNU this summer. The first camp, which will begin on June 11th and end on the 15th is open to boys from ages 9-12. The camp will begin each day at 8:30 am and run until 5:00 pm with the players receiving personal instruction from NDNU staff and players.
The second camp held July 16-19 is sponsored by Nike and run through US Sports Camps. This is an overnight camp and is open to boys from age 8-15. (Other options are available for campers who do not stay overnight) Campers will reside on campus and hone their skills daily at the NDNU gymnasium. The daily format, which includes fundamental instruction, lectures and team games will help the campers improve their play and understanding of the game. In addition, exciting off court activities are organized by the staff, such as pizza night and movie night.
Both camps are directed by Head Coach George Puou, who guided the Argos to a 9-18 record in just their second year as a Division II program. Overall, Puou has compiled a 78-94 record in sixth years at NDNU. Coach Puou was a standout player at San Jose State University where he was selected the team’s most valuable player in 1987 and played professionally in Japan for seven years. Two Argos Receive All-Conference Honors
Ryan Cooper and Chris Clock earn Pac West recognition
March 15 – In their first season of Division II play, the Notre Dame de Namur men’s basketball team saw two players get recognized for their outstanding performances. Juniors Ryan Cooper and Chris Clock earned All-Pac West honors after leading the Argos to a 9-18 record.
Cooper, a point guard from San Jose was named to the Second Team after starting every game this season. Cooper finished tied for the team lead and was ninth in the conference in scoring, averaging 11.9 points per game. He also led the Pac West in free throw percentage, hitting 86% from the charity stripe and was fourth in assists with 89. Cooper upped his scoring to 12.1 ppg and assists (3.93) in conference play while his 2.68 assist to turnover ratio ranked first in the Pacific West.
Clock, a forward from Los Gatos earned Honorable Mention status after tying for the team lead in scoring with 11.9 points per game. Clock finished tied for ninth in the Pac West in scoring and fourth in 3-pointers made with 59. All-PAC West Team
Argos Fall in Final Game
March 3 – The NDNU men’s basketball team dropped their final game of the 2006-2007 season with a 80-68 loss to Grand Canyon. NDNU started out strong, leading by as many as six in the opening minutes. However, Grand Canyon took the lead with 9:47 left in the first and never looked back. The ‘Lopes led by five at the break before pushing their lead to as many as 17 in the second half. The Argos shot 42% from the field for the game and hit 11-24 shots from behind the arc but was outdone by Grand Canyon who hit 50% of their shots.
Chris Clock finished with a team high 23 points and knocked five 3-pointers while Ryan Cooper hit four threes on his way to 16 points. Dan Bergeron was the final Argo in double figures with 10 points and six rebounds. Grand Canyon was led by 24 from Jason Stromvall and a double-double from Bryan Lee who finished with 22 points and 12 rebounds. Fast Start Helps Grand Canyon Down Argos
March 2 – The Notre Dame de Namur men’s basketball closed out their first Pacific West Conference season with a 82-62 loss to Grand Canyon. The 'Lopes came out of the gates firing, taking a 22-4 lead just seven minutes into the contest. The Argos could not get their offense going, hitting just 29% of their shots in the first half. NDNU was much more effective in the second, but it was too late as the 'Lopes 18 point halftime lead stretched to as many as 23. The Argos shot 54% in the second half but could not stop Grand Canyon who connected on 57% from the field.
Ryan Cooper led the Argos with 15 points and three assists while connecting on 8-8 from the free throw line. Chris Clock and Eric Bossom also reached double figures, scoring 12 and 10 respectively. Rudy Bogan led all scorers with 29 for the Antelopes with Richard Davis adding 14 points and four assists. The Argos fell to 2-13 in conference play and will close out the season with a non-conference match up with Grand Canyon tomorrow night. BOX SCORE
Chang Leads Argos Past Dixie State on Senior Day
February 23 – The Notre Dame de Namur men’s basketball ended their 2006-2007 home schedule strong with a 65-51 victory over Dixie State on Senior Day. Stephen Chang, the teams only senior led the way with a season high 21 points and knocked down five 3-pointers. Chang, making only his second start was just one point off his career high, hitting 7-10 from the field and grabbing six rebounds. The Argos started off slow, trailing by six halfway through the first before a late run gave them a four point lead at the break. The second half was a different story as NDNU quickly jumped out to a 16 point lead after a 10-0 run. The Rebels battled back within eight, but Chris Clock’s three with 8:46 left gave the Argos an 11 point lead. Dixie State would not get the margin into single digits for the rest of the game. NDNU shot 45% for the game, including 54% in the second and committed only eight turnovers. The Rebels turned the ball over 16 times and shot just 38% from the field.
Chang scored 11 of his 21 in the second and connected on all three of his 3-pointers in the half. Chris Clock added 11 points, 4 rebounds and four assists while Ryan Cooper tacked on nine points and four assists. Dan Bergeron netted eight points, eight boards and a pair of steals. Ben Hartman led Dixie with 14 points while Troy Randall added 12 points and seven boards. The Argos are off to Phoenix next weekend as the close out the season with a pair of games against Grand Canyon. BOX SCORE
Chaminade Downs NDNU
February 18 – The Notre Dame de Namur men’s basketball team could not hold off Chaminade, falling to the Swords 78-48. The Argos could not get their offense going all game long, hitting just 33% from the field and 0-11 from three. The Swords meanwhile shot 48% including 52% in the second half. Chaminade jumped out big early on, taking a 13 point lead into the break with NDNU shooting just 29%. The second half was much of the same as the Silver outscored the Argos 42-25.
Eric Bossom led the Argos with 12 points and five rebounds while Deon Sharps added eight off the bench. Zach Whiting recorded a triple-double for Chaminade, finishing with 11 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists. Marko Kolaric tacked on 11 points and 15 rebounds. The Argos return home to face future Pac West Conference member Dixie State on Friday night at Walter Gleason Gym. BOX SCORE
Argos Fall to Hawaii-Hilo
February 15 – The NDNU men’s basketball could not hold off Hawaii-Hilo, falling on the road 71-60. The Argos started off strong, leading early in the game before the Vulcans made a run. With Hilo leading 21-18 with just under five to play, the Vulcans scored 11 unanswered points to stretch the margin to 14. NDNU fought back to get the lead into single digits in the beginning on the second half. However, Hilo would not let it get any closer pushing the lead up to 19 points. The Vulcans knocked down 48% of their shots for the game including ten from behind the arc. NDNU connected on eight threes of their own while shooting 47%, but were outscored at the free throw line 13-4.
Dan Bergeron and Stephen Chang led the Argos with 11 points each while Chris Clock and Ryan Cooper added nine apiece. Clock knocked down three 3-pointers and Copper tacked on four assists. Vince Alvarado poured in a game high 24 points on 8-11 shooting while Travis Sobers hit five threes on his way to 17 points off the bench. Samuel Wilhoite tacked on six points, 11 rebounds, six assists and four blocks. The Argos will take on Chaminade in their final game of the Hawaii trip on Saturday afternoon. BOX SCORE
Argos Prevail on the Road Over Hawaii-Hilo
February 14 - The NDNU men's basketball picked up their second conference win of the season with a 73-69 victory over Hawaii-Hilo. The Argos shot 52% for the game and turned the ball over only six times on the way to their first Pac West road win. The Vulcans came out hot, hitting eight of their first ten shots and taking an early six point lead. However, NDNU would not go away, using a Ryan Cooper three to spark a 10-0 run. With the Argos up by nine Hilo scored the next seven to cut the deficit to two and would take the lead at the break on a Darryl Harris jumper with three seconds left. The second half was a see-saw battle, with the Vulcans quickly going up by five. The Argos then made a run of their own to go up six before Hilo answered back and took another five point lead. Eric Bossom's jumper at the 3:59 mark gave the Argos the lead for good and six free throws in the final minute sealed the victory. The Vulcans shot a blistering 62% for the game, but turned the ball over 16 times.
Ryan Cooper led the Argos with 23 points on 8-13 shooting and hit three 3-pointers. Eric Bossom scored 16 while Dan Bergeron tacked on 11 of his own. Samuel Wilhoite poured in a game high 25 points for the Vulcans and added nine rebounds. Justin Dobson connected on three shots from behind the arc on his way to 18 while Vince Alvarado hit all five of his shots for 11 points. These two teams will square off again Thursday night for their third and final meeting of the season. BOX SCORE
Big First Half Helps BYU Hawaii Down Argos
February 10 – The Notre Dame de Namur men’s basketball team could not overcome a big first half lead, losing to BYU Hawaii 81-62. The Argos started off strong, taking a 13-12 lead eight minutes into the game. However, the Seasiders would then go on a 28-13 run to go up by 14 points. NDNU battled back, cutting the deficit to eight at the break. In the second, the Argos got within six but a quick seven point streak by BYU Hawaii broke the game wide open. The Seasiders shot 49% for the game, including 53% in the first half. The Argos struggled from the field in the second, connecting on just 32% of their shots.
Chris Clock led the Argos with 19 points on 8-14 shooting. The teams leading scorer, Ryan Cooper finished with just six points but added seven assists. BYU Hawaii was paced by Wu Tai-Hao's 18 points, all of which came in the first half. Eric Boyce and Jermaine Odjegba tacked on 12 points each while Lucas Alves added 10. The Argos are off to Hawaii for a three game road trip that will see them face Chaminade once and Hawaii-Hilo twice. BOX SCORE
NDNU Falls Short to Hawaii Pacific
February 8 – The Notre Dame de Namur men’s basketball team could not make it two Pac West wins in a row, falling to Hawaii Pacific 59-55. The Argos jumped out early, making their first four shots, all threes to take a 12-2 lead in the opening minutes. HPU would then score the next six points and stay close for the rest of the first half. The Argos connected on just 44% of their shots in the first half, but hit 50% from behind the arc to take a 26-22 lead into the break. The second half was a different story as the Sea Warriors quickly erased the deficit and took a four point lead with 15 minutes left. HPU would build the lead up to ten before a pair of Stephen Chang free throws made it a two point game with 55 second remaining. Rishi Kakad came up big in the final minute, hitting all four of his free throws to ice the game for the Sea Warriors. HPU shot 50% in the second half while the Argos made just 33% of their shots.
Chris Clock led all players with 19 points and hit five 3-pointers on the night. Ryan Cooper added nine points and five assists while Chris Edwards had four blocks. Brandon Lee paced HPU with a double-double, finishing with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Rishi Kakad tacked on 12 points with Adam Reinking adding 11 points and five steals.
