Argos Place 8 th at PacWest Championships
October 31 – The Notre Dame de Namur men’s cross country closed out their 2010 season with an 8 th place finish at the Pacific West Conference Championships in Hawaii. The Argos finished ahead of Dominican, completing the race with a score of 205
BYU Hawaii took home the conference crown with a score of 24 and had five of the top nine finishers. Amos Maru won the individual crown for Academy of Art with a time of 24.33.
Ryan Nunez was the top finisher for the Argonauts, placing 25 th with a time of 28:06. David Santana and Luis Ninez finished within eight seconds of each other in 41 st and 42 nd place. Tony Roberts and Greg Bearson closed out the NDNU scoring, placing 47 th and 50 th respectively. RESULTS
Argos Finish 9 th at Santa Clara Invitational
October 16 – The Notre Dame de Namur men’s cross country team ran well, placing 9 th at their last regular season meet of the season. The Argos finished 9 th in the field of 13 with Ryan Nunez placing 33 rd individually.
Nunez was the top performer for NDNU with a time of 28:15 for the 8K race. Luis Nunez placed 40 th, finishing just over a minute behind Ryan Nunez. David Santana (47 th), Greg Bearson (56 th) and Memo Flores (71 st) rounded out the runners for the Argonauts.
an Francisco State won the team title with a total score of 48 while Zadrozna Zachary of Chico State took home the individual crown with a time of 25:33. RESULTS
Argos Place 4th at Westmont Invitational
September 25 – The Notre Dame de Namur cross country team placed 4th at Saturday’s Westmont Invitational. The 8K race at Levik Field was run in 90 degree weather with Westmont College taking home the title.
Tony Roberts was the top Argonaut runner, placing 18th with a time of 33:20 while Greg Bearson finished 19th at 34:03. Memo Flores (21st), Luis Nunez (22nd) and Ryan Nunez (23rd) rounded out the NDNU squad.
The Argos race again on October 8th when they will compete in the San Francisco State Invitational. RESULTS
Argos Finish 5th at 2010 Opener
September 4 – The Notre Dame de Namur men’s cross country team turner in a strong performance at the first NDNU Invitational, placing 5th. The Argos opened the 2010 season with five runners completing the 4.2 mile course at Crystal Springs.
San Jose State won the race which featured 48 runners with a team score of 17. The Spartans had the races top four runners with Alfredo Coronado dominating the field with a time of 21:06. He finished over one minute ahead of second place Sterling Granger.
De Anza CC finished second with 66 points while Holy Names, CSU East Bay and NDNU rounded out the field.
Tony Roberts and Ryan Nunez were the top Argonaut runners, finishing 16th and 17th respectively. Luis Nunez (24th), Guillermo Flores (29th) and Andrew De La Cruz (31st) completed the NDNU scoring. RESULTS
Academy of Art Cruises to PacWest Championship
October 31 – The Academy of Art men’s cross country team possessed five of the top seven finishers on their way to claiming the Hawaiian Airlines Pacific West Conference Championship. The 8k race, held at Speedway Meadows in Golden Gate Park featured 46 runners from seven PacWest schools.
The Urban Knights blew away the competition scoring just 20 points with BYU Hawaii taking second place with a score of 51. Hawaii Pacific finished third with 76 points while Hawaii Hilo (97), Notre Dame de Namur (130), Grand Canyon (133) and Chaminade (177) rounded out the team scoring.
Amos Maru from Academy of Art led from start to finish to win the Individual Championship with a time 25:17. His teammate Daveson Marindich placed second while Brendan McMaster (BYU Hawaii), Simon Mutai (Academy of Art) and Spencer Deavilla (BYU Hawaii) rounded out the top-5.
Johnny Yerena was the top finisher for Notre Dame de Namur in 18th place with Juilo Aguilera (21st) and Aaron Sommer (25th) also placing in the top-25. David Santana (28th) and Tony Roberts (38th) completed NDNU’s scoring at 130.
Dany Malley was the top finisher for Hawaii Pacific, placing 8th. Stefano Barbis finished 9th for Hawaii Hilo while Grand Canyon’s Julio Zuniga (14th) and Chaminade’s Garrett Prinslow (26th) were the top runners for their respective schools.
The top seven runners were named First Team All-PacWest with the next seven garnering Second Team honors. Academy of Art led the way with five runner receiving All-Conference accolades while BYU Hawaii placed four runners on the teams. RESULTS
Argos Place 9th at San Francisco State Invitational
October 9 – The Notre Dame de Namur men’s cross country team had another strong showing, finishing 9th at the San Francisco State Invitational on Friday. The Argos had three runners place in the top-50 of the 12-team race held at Speedway Meadows in Golden Gate Park.
Julio Aguilera was the top performer for NDNU, finishing in 35th place with a time of 27:08. Aaron Sommer and David Santana finished under one minute behind Aguilera for a 48th and 50th placing respectively. Tony Robert (64th) and Guillermo Flores (70th) rounded out the scoring for NDNU.
The race was won by Alaska Anchorage who had the first and second place runners in Marko Cheseto and Micah Chelimo.
The Argos race again on Saturday when they head down to Sunnyvale to run in the Bronco Invitational hosted by Santa Clara University. RESULTS
Argos Finish 3rd at Westmont Invitational
September 21 – The Notre Dame de Namur men’s cross country team turned in another impressive performance with a 3rd place finish at the Westmont Invitational. The Argos had four runners place in the top-20 of the ten team invitational and finished just three minutes behind winner Westmont College.
Johnny Yerena and Julio Aguilera both finished in the top-10 for NDNU with 7th and 10th place performances respectively. David Santana (18th) and Aaron Sommer (19th) also placed in the top-20 while Tamru Abate finished 34th to round out the Argonauts score.
The Argos are back in action on October 3rd for the Willamette Invitational in Salem, Oregon. RESULTS
Argos Place 3rd in 2009 Opener
September 5 – The Notre Dame de Namur men’s cross country team had a successful start to their 2009 season with a 3rd place finish at the CSU Monterey Bay Invitational. Julio Aguilara was the top Argonaut performer with a 5th place finish.
The Invitational, featuring five Division II schools was won by San Francisco State while Joey Nunes of CSU Stanislaus won the individual crown.
In addition to Aguilar, Aaron Sommer and David Santana also finished in the top-20. Tamru Abate and Tony Roberts also placed just outside of the top-20 to round out the Argonauts score. RESULTS
Argos Place 14th at DII Western Regional
November 8 – In their first year as an eligible team for the NCAA Division II West Regional, the Notre Dame de Namur men’s cross country team turned in a strong performance to finish 14th.
The Argos were one of 18 teams to participate in the Championship hosted by UC San Diego in La Jolla, CA. Chico State took home the title with a combine score of 28, including a first place finish by senior Scott Bauhs.
Johnny Yerena was the top performer for NDNU with a 56th place finish while Arturo Huezo finished 65th. David Santana (71st), Rick Medeiros (75th) and Aaron Sommer (85th) rounded out the Argonaut’s score at 352. Geordan Smith also ran for NDNU and placed 103rd. RESULTS
Argos Place Fourth at PacWest Championships
October 25 – The Notre Dame de Namur men’s cross country team capped off their regular season schedule with a fourth place finish at the Hawaiian Airlines PacWest Championships.
The Argos totaled 97 points and finished behind conference champion Hawaii Pacific, BYU Hawaii and Hawaii Hilo. Arturo Huezo was the top individual for the Argonauts, placing 12th and earning Second Team All-Conference honors. Johnny Yerena just missed making the All-PacWest team after finishing 17th.
David Santana placed 19th while Rick Medeiros (23rd), Aaron Sommer (26th) and Geordan Smith (33rd) rounded out the NDNU scoring.
Dany Malley of HPU took home the individual title while teammate Jens Munk Nielsen finished second.
The Argos are back in action when they head to the Regional Championships in La Jolla, CA in two weeks. RESULTS
