Hawaii Pacific Edges NDNU for Pacific West Championship

October 27 – The Hawaii Pacific men’s cross country team took home the Hawaiian Airlines Pacific West Champion with a two point victory over host school Notre Dame de Namur.  The 8k race, held at Crystal Springs Cross Country Course in Belmont, California featured 40 runners from the seven PacWest schools.

The Sea Warriors scored 45 points with the Argonauts just behind them with a score of 47.  BYU Hawaii (57), Hawaii Hilo (67), Chaminade (135), Grand Canyon (143) and Dixie State rounded out the team totals. 

The individual winner was Golden Harper from BYU Hawaii with a time of 26:23.  HPU senior Brandon Laan placed second while Esben Dalgaard (Hawaii Pacific), Thomas Puzey (BYU Hawaii) and Javier Ceja (NDNU) completed the top five.

In addition to Ceja’s top-5 finish, Erik Estrada (6th) and Jose Alcala (8th) placed in the top-10 for the Argonauts.  David Santana (11th) and Johnny Yerena (17th) also scored for NDNU while John Garcia finished 30th.

Garrett McAllister was the top finisher for Hawaii Hilo, placing 9th.  Matt Dalrymple finished 16th for Dixie State while Chaminade’s Tyler Pickle (21st) and Grand Canyon’s Franklin Kirimi (24th) were the top runners for their respective schools.

The top seven runners were named First Team All-PacWest with the next seven garnering Second Team honors.  Notre Dame de Namur and Hawaii Pacific led the way with four runners each receiving All-Conference accolades while BYU Hawaii and Hawaii Hilo each had three.

Argos Finish 14th at Santa Clara Invitational

October 13 – The Notre Dame de Namur men’s cross country team place 14th at Saturday mornings Santa Clara Invitational.  The Argos were led by Jose Alcala’s 59th place finish, while Erik Estrada finished just three seconds behind in 62nd.  David Santana (85th), Javier Ceja (89th) and Johnny Yerena (92nd) rounded out the Argos score of 387.  NDNU is off next week, but will return home to host the Pacific West Conference Championships held at Crystal Springs on October 27th.  RESULTS

 

Argos Place 7th at Triton Invitational

October 6 – The Notre Dame de Namur men’s cross country team finished seventh overall, third in Division II at the Triton Invitational.  The Argos placed behind host school UC San Diego as well as Cal Poly Pomona but had a pair of runners in the top-10.  Erik Estrada finished in fifth place while Javier Ceja came in seventh.  Jose Alcala (12th), Johnny Yerena (17th) and David Santana (18th) rounded out the NDNU score.  The Argos are back in action next Saturday at the Santa Clara Invitational. Argos Finish 11th at Williamette Invitational

September 29 – The Notre Dame de Namur men’s cross country team turned in another strong performance, placing 11th at the Williamette Invitational in Salem, Oregon.  The Argos were one of 27 schools to run the 8K race.

Junior Erik Estrada finished a team best 21st with a time of 25:15.45.  Freshman Javier Ceja placed 31st, finishing just nine seconds behind Estrada.  Jose Alcala (59th), Johnny Yerena (68th) and David Santana (128th) rounded out the Argos score.  NDNU will run again next weekend at the Triton Invitational in La Jolla, CA. Argos Place 5th at Pepperdine Invitational

September 22 – The Notre Dame de Namur men’s cross country team once again impressed, placing fifth at the Pepperdine Invitational in Malibu on Saturday.  The Argos, fresh off a victory at the Humboldt Invitational on September 8th, finished behind four Division I schools.  UCLA took the team title while Erick Garcia from Fresno State earned the individual title. 

Javier Ceja once again led the Argos, finishing in 15th place with a time of 25:26.20.  Erik Estrada placed 23rd while Jose Alcala (30th), Johnny Yerena (31st) and David Santana (47th) rounded out the Argos score. 

The Argos are back in action next Saturday when they race at the Williamette Invitational in Salem, Oregon.  RESULTS

 


Men Place Fourth in Pac West Championships

October 21 - The Notre Dame de Namur men's cross country team closed out their season by making their first appearance in the Pac West Championships on Saturday.  The race, which took place in Hilo, Hawaii featured all six schools in the conference.  The men finished fourth in their meet. 

Jose Alcala led the men's team with a 14th place finish, just ahead of three other Argos.  Erick Maldonado, Efren Tirado and Johnathon Yerena placed 15th-17th with the final NDNU runner, Arturo Huezo finishing 19th.  Results

 

Cross Country Competes in Cal Poly Invitational

October 14 - The NDNU men's cross country teams competed in the Cal Poly Invitational on Saturday.  The men finished seventh in the race.

Jose Alcala was the top performer for the men, finishing in 30th place with a time of 28:27.4.  Arturo Huezo and John Yerena finished 34th and 35th respectively for the Argo men. The men will race again next Saturday in the Pac West Championships in Hilo, Hawaii. Results

 

Cross Country Runs in Williamette Invitational

September 30 - The Notre Dame de Namur men's cross country team competed in the Williamette Invitational in Salem, Oregon on Saturday morning.  Concordia University (Irvine) took home the men's team title.  The NDNU men finished in 24th place.

Erick Maldonado was the top finisher for the Argos men, placing 87th in the 8k race. The men will race again next Saturday at the Triton Invitational in La Jolla, California. Results
