Men's Cross Country

Kevin Berkowitz

Coach Berkowitz is in his third season as the leader of the NDNU Men’s and Women’s Cross Country team. Berkowitz lead the men’s team to a fourth place finish at the Pac West Conference Championships and the women’s team to a fifth place finish. Berkowitz comes to the Argos from Arroyo High School in San Lorenzo where he was the Track & Field coach. Prior to Arroyo High School Berkowitz coached at Hayward high & nationally ranked Logan High School. In 1999 his girls’ team won the HAAL Championship in both Cross Country and Track & Field.

Berkowitz graduated from Hayward High School in 1990 where he was the HAAL Champion in Cross Country for three consecutive years.  He was also a three time State Qualifier and was the North Coast Section Champion and the Division II State Champion in 1989.  Berkowitz was the first person to win the “Triple Crown” in the HAAL (1600m, 800m, and 3200m) in back to back years. 

After graduating from Hayward HS, Berkowitz attended and ran at Indiana University for a year before transferring to Cal Poly San Luis Obispo.  At Cal Poly SLO he earned his Degree in Kinesiology. He ran both Cross Country and Track & Field for the mustangs. In 1992, he earned All-Conference in CCAA in the 800m. In 1993, Berkowitz qualified for the National Championships in Cross Country and in the 1500m. Upon graduating from Cal Poly, Berkowitz joined the adidas Transport team and became one of the top road racers in the bay area. He also earned his Master’s Degree in Kinesiology from Cal State Hayward and earned a Teaching Credential from SF State.
