Argos Add Three More West Coast Recruits
June 18 - The Notre Dame de Namur lacrosse program and Head Coach Joe Kerwin have announced the signings of three more recruits for the 2009 season. Midfielder Jacob Hayashi, defenseman Ryley Stephens and attackman Tyler Harris will join a class that already includes nine signees.
Hayashi, an experienced midfielder from Bainbridge High School in Washington helped lead his team to State Championships in 1999, 2000 and 2002. He was named 1st Team All-State in 2002 after earning Honorable Mention status in 2001. As a senior, Hayashi scored 25 goals and picked up 60 groundballs in 16 games.
Stephens, a defender from Liberty High in Hillsboro, Oregon earned All-State accolades as a junior and senior. In 2007, he was named Honorable Mention All-State before being named to the Second Team this past season. Stephens also received First Team All-Conference honors in both 2007 and 2008.
Harris, an attackman from Aurora, Colorado is Cherokee Trail High School’s All-Time leader in single season points with 51 and assists with 26. He earned All-League honors in each of the past two seasons and was also named the Team’s Offensive MVP twice. Harris finished in the top-10 in the state in scoring as a senior and was a participant in the Colorado All-State game.
NDNU finished the 2008 season with an 11-2 overall record, including a 7-1 record against NCAA Division II opponents.
NDNU Inks Four Californians
May 28 – The Notre Dame de Namur lacrosse program and Head Coach Joe Kerwin have announced the signings of four California recruits for next season. These four will join a class that already includes five from the state of Washington.
The Argos class includes attackman Bubba Paguirigan as well as three experienced midfielders with the additions of David Siliezar, Brandon Ballow and Kyle Hirozawa.
Paguirigan, an attackman from Palo Alto played for the West Valley Red Hawks Lacrosse Club for two seasons. At West Valley, he helped lead the team to consecutive NCJLA State Championships. In 2006, Paguirigan led the NCJLA in total points and assists after finishing with 17 goals and 47 helpers. He followed that up with 17 goals and 32 assists in 2007 to finish sixth in the league in scoring.
Siliezar, a midfielder from Downey HS is the school’s all-time points leader with 112 total points. For his career, Siliezar racked up 74 goals and 38 assists, including 27 goals and 15 assists as a senior. In 2008, he was named 1st Team All-League as well as the Team MVP.
Ballow, a midfielder from Chula Vista will join the Argonauts after an excellent senior season at Eastlake HS. Ballow was named Team MVP after recording 20 goals, 29 assists and picking up 56 groundballs. He will also help the Argos on face-offs where he won 61% of the time last season.
Hirozawa, a midfielder from San Jose also comes from the West Valley Lacrosse Club where he spent three seasons. As a captain in 2008, he helped lead the Red Hawks to their third consecutive NCJLA State Championship. Hirozawa finished the year with 11 goals and three assists.
The Argos finished the 2008 season with an 11-2 overall record, including a 7-1 record against NCAA Division II opponents.
NDNU Lacrosse Signs Five from Washington
May 19 – The Notre Dame de Namur lacrosse program has announced the signings of five players from the state of Washington.
Two-time All-State selections Greg Bearson and Jordan Foster headline the Washington class while the Argos also received a commitment from Thomas Waterbury, a 2007 1st Team All-State selection at goalie. Attackman Derek Kimbrough and defenseman Sam Strickland round out the Washington signees who all expect to make a major impact next season.
Bearson, a midfielder from Eastside High School in Sammamish earned All-State honors in both 2005 and 2006. He was named an Honorable Mention as a junior before garnering First Team accolades his senior season. Bearson scored 105 career goals in 55 games while adding 39 assists and 302 groundballs. As a senior, he finished fourth in the state with 44 goals and eighth in points per game at 3.63.
Foster, a midfielder from Bainbridge HS was recently named Second Team All-State for the second straight season. As a member of the 2007 Washington State Champions, Foster scored 15 goals and added eight assists before recording 21 goals and nine assists during his senior season.
Waterbury, a goalie from Vashon Island spent last season at the Bridgton Academy in Maine. He earned First Team All-State honors in 2007 after finishing the season with a 6.5 goals against average and a 69.5 save percentage.
Kimbrough will also join the Argonauts from Vashon Island HS where he spent four seasons as a starter. He scored 79 career goals and was named the team’s Offensive MVP as a senior after scoring 21 goals.
Strickland, a defenseman from Seattle spent three years as a starter at Nathan Hale HS. He started 39 career games and was named the team’s Defensive MVP as a junior.
NDNU finished the 2008 season with an 11-2 overall record, including a 7-1 record against NCAA Division II opponents.
Argos Handle Seton Hill, Finish 11-2 on the Season
April 22 – The Notre Dame de Namur lacrosse team closed out their 2008 season with a 17-7 victory over Seton Hill. Senior Tim Campeau led the Argos with nine points as NDNU never trailed in the game.
The Argos scored the game’s first ten goals, including eight in the first half to put the Griffins behind early. After a three goal first period, the NDNU offense got going with five in the second and the first two of the third.
Seton Hill narrowed the gap in the last half of the third to make the score 10-3 heading into the fourth. The Griffins would pull within six with just over eleven minutes left, but the Argos did not allow it to get any closer. NDNU scored six of the games final eight goals to earn a decisive 17-7 victory.
Matthew Coric picked up his tenth victory of the season with 13 stops in three periods while Jesse Wilkerson closed out the fourth with a pair of saves. The Argos outshot Seton Hill 39-34 and held a 44-36 groundball advantage.
Campeau scored five goals and added four assists to lead the Argonaut offense. He ends the year with a team high 71 points on 30 goals and 41 assists. Brad Matzek added to his recorded setting season with three goals, giving him 46 on the year. Conrad Clevlen tacked on three goals and a game high seven groundballs while Jon Black closed out his career with a goal and three assists.
Jesse Painter, Nick Peterson, Nick Huetteman, Owen Williams and Chris Fey all added a goal to round out the NDNU scoring.

Matzek Sets School Record, Argos Topple Wheeling Jesuit
April 20 – Senior attackman Brad Matzek scored four goals to set the single season record and help the Notre Dame de Namur lacrosse team to a 13-7 victory over Wheeling Jesuit. The Argos never trailed in the game, using a big first period to improve to 10-2 on the season.
Matzek opened the contest with a goal at the 13:32 mark to give him 40 for the season and pass Marc Mackrides for the school’s scoring record. The Argos kept the offensive attack going, scoring two goals in ten seconds to push the lead to 3-0 with 12:49 left in the first quarter. After a Wheeling Jesuit goal trimmed the difference to two, NDNU closed out the period with the final three goals to go up 6-1.
NDNU kept the scoring going in the second with Jesse Painter’s third goal of the game. The Cardinals would score the next two before the Argos once again scored the period’s final three goals. In the second half, WJU opened with a pair of goals to move the score to 10-5. The two teams would then trade the game’s final five goals to preserve a 13-7 Argonaut victory.
Matzek finished the day with four goals to push his season total to 43 and collected a pair of assists. Painter tacked on three goals to record his fourth hat trick of the season while Cam Foss and Nick Peterson tallied two goals apiece. Tim Campeau register a goal and two assists with Conrad Clevlen adding the team’s final goal. Cory Upshaw and Steven Laird tied for the game high in groundballs with six apiece.
Matthew Coric was excellent in goal once again for the Argonauts recording 16 saves, including eight in the four quarter to stop the Cardinals comeback attempt. NDNU outshot Wheeling Jesuit 46-39 for the game and held a 35-13 advantage in the first half. The Argos also won the groundball battle 43-31 while WJU won 13 of 23 face-offs.
Eric Jenkins led the WJU offense with three goals while four other Cardinals added one score apiece. Goalie Joe Sims made 12 saves in net to keep the game close.

Argos Suffer Setback at Mercyhurst
April 19 – The Notre Dame de Namur lacrosse team suffered their first loss since February 16, falling to #7 Mercyhurst 8-6. The Argos could not extend their winning streak to eight games as the Lakers jumped out a 4-1 first period lead and never trailed.
The Lakers flew out of the gates, getting the games first goal just 51 seconds into the game from Jordan Witt. Mike Thon tacked on a second goal four minutes later to give the home team a 2-0 lead. NDNU responded just over a minute later with a goal by Ryan Hulsey, but the Lakers closed out the first with a pair of goals.
The second period was a different story as the Argos scored the only two goals. Nick Huetteman and Jon Black each tallied a score off passes from Brad Matzek. The Lakers got both goals back in the third, netting both in the first five minutes of the period.
NDNU played themselves back into the game in the fourth after back-to-back goals by Matzek and Tim Campeau pulled the Argos within one. However, on the ensuing face-off, Thon took the ball and attacked the net to put Mercyhurst back up by two. Two minutes later, the Lakers tacked on another to extend their advantage to three. Campeau would score less than a minute later, but the Argos could not get any closer.
Mercyhurst held the advantage in nearly every category, out shooting the Argos 46-17 and picking up 16 more groundballs (40-24). Goalie Matthew Coric kept NDNU close with 17 saves, 15 of which came in the final three periods.
Tim Campeau led the Argos with a pair of goals and an assist while Jon Black and Brad Matzek each added a goal and two assists. Nick Huetteman and Ryan Hulsey each tacked on a goal.
Mike Bartlett and Mike Thon paced the Lakers with a pair of goal apiece with goalie Jason LaShomb made four saves.
The Argos are back in action tomorrow afternoon against Wheeling Jesuit. BOX SCORE
Argos Roll Past Whittier on Senior Day
April 13 – The Notre Dame de Namur lacrosse team avenged their only defeat of the season with an 18-10 rout of Whittier College. The Argos used a 13-3 advantage over the second and third periods to never trail and topple the Poets.
The game started perfectly for NDNU as Cam Foss and Ryan Hulsey each scored in the first three minutes to give the home team a 2-0 advantage. Whittier responded and knotted the game at 2-2 with just under a minute left in the first.
The Argos opened the second with a goal to go ahead before the Poets once again tied the score. Senior Tim Campeau put NDNU up for good with three goals in a span of one minute and 35 seconds. After a Whittier goal cut the margin to two, the Argos scored the games next nine goals to take a 14-5 advantage in the closing minutes of the third. The Poets would score six of the games final nine goals, but it was too little too late.
NDNU won 21 of 30 face-offs and held a 31-24 advantage on groundballs. The Poets outshot the Argos 34-31 and scored on two extra-man opportunities.
Twelve of the Argonauts 18 goals were scored by the seniors playing in their final home game. Leading scorer Brad Matzek pulled within one goal of the single season school record with a four goal, two assist performance. Matzek’s 38 goals put him just one behind Marc Mackrides school record of 29 goals in a season.
Campeau also scored four goals and recorded two assists, while Jesse Painter tacked on two goals. Foss and Jon Black each netted one goal with Foss adding two assists. Owen Williams and Conrad Clevlen also registered a pair of goal each. Clevlen won 14 of 20 face-offs and picked up a game high seven groundballs.
Whitter was led by Chuck Wagner, Anthony Lackey and Kevin McCarroll who all recorded a hat trick. Christian Wright scored the other Poet goal while Alex Chaudry picked up three assists.
Matthew Coric was once again outstanding in net for the Argos, registering 13 saves and picking up his eighth victory of the season.
The Argos improved to 9-1 on the season and close out the year with a three game road trip that features Mercyhurst, Wheeling Jesuit and Seton Hill. BOX SCORE
Argos Rout Grand Canyon
March 29 – The Notre Dame de Namur lacrosse team improved to 7-1 on the season with a 26-6 blowout of Grand Canyon. The Argos overcame a slow start to score earn their second victory over the Antelopes this season.
The game stayed close for much of the first period after a pair of GCU goals cut the Argos lead to 4-3. However, NDNU rebounded to outscore the visitors 8-1 in the second and 6-0 in the third. Overall, the Argos scored 22 of the games next 23 goals to take a 26-4 advantage late in the fourth.
The Argos outshot the Antelopes 47-31 and held a 55-27 groundball advantage. Four different Argonauts combine to win 25 of 33 face-offs for the game with Conrad Clevlen compiling a 17-4 record. Clevlen also led all players with 17 groundballs.
Nick Huetteman scored a career high six goals on only seven shots while Tim Campeau tacked on a game high eight points with two goals and six assists. Clevlen scored on all four of his shots with Brad Matzek and Owen Williams adding three goals apiece. Nick Campo and Jesse Painter each scored two goals with Campo also adding three assists.
Patrick Murphy led the Antelopes with three goals and one assist.
Matthew Coric earned his seventh victory of the season with four saves in the first quarter while Jesse Wilkerson made seven saves and allowed just one goal. Marvin Villavicencio played the fourth for NDNU and made four saves.
The Argos are back in action next Saturday when they travel to San Rafael to face Dominican. BOX SCORE
Lacrosse Schedule Change
The date for the final NDNU lacrosse home game of the season against Whittier has been changed to Sunday, April 13th at 1:00 pm. The game will also be Senior Day for the six Argonaut seniors.
Big First Half Helps Argos Down St. Andrews
March 12 – The Notre Dame de Namur lacrosse team earned their fifth straight victory with a 16-7 win over St. Andrews. The Argos jumped on the Knights early, taking a 14-1 lead into halftime and never looking back.
With the victory the Argos remained perfect on their North Carolina road trip, improving to 3-0 on the trip and 6-1 on the season.
A game after tying a career high with seven goals, junior Brad Matzek tied his career high with a nine point performance. Matzek helped the Argos get off to a fast start, assisting on the games first three goals and scoring the fourth. After St. Andrews got on the board, NDNU scored the games next ten goals heading into the break.
The Knights opened the second half with five straight goals, but would not get any closer as the Argos cruised to a 16-7 victory. The Argos held a 41-40 shot advantage and picked up 55 groundballs to the Knights 43. NDNU also scored on one extra-man opportunity and two man-down situations.
Sophomore netminder Matthew Coric was once again outstanding in net, earning his sixth win of the season with four saves in 30 minutes of actions. Jesse Wilkerson saw action in for the final 30 minutes and made six saves.
Matzek led NDNU with nine points on five goals and four assist while Tim Campeau added four goals and two assists. Jesse Painter registered a hat trick with Conrad Clevlen recording 12 face-off wins and 10 groundballs.
The Argos will look to complete the sweep of their four game road trip on Saturday when they face Belmont Abbey at 2:00 pm est. BOX SCORE
Matzek Scores Seven Goals, Leads Argos Past Catawba
March 10 – The Notre Dame de Namur lacrosse team made it four straight victories with a 13-9 win over Catawba. Senior Brad Matzek tied a career high with seven goals, including four straight in the second and third periods to pace the NDNU offense.
The Argonauts improved to 5-1, while the Indians dropped to 2-3. NDNU came out of the gates quickly scoring the games first three goals and taking a 6-1 lead into the second period.
Catawba regrouped and tallied the first six goals of the second quarter to take the lead at 7-6 at the 4:01 mark. Matzek ended the half with two goals in the final three minutes to give NDNU back the lead.
NDNU would never trail again as Matzek scored the first two goals of the second half to push the margin to three. Matzek would add another in the fourth before Tim Campeau closed out the game with a pair of goals in less than thirty seconds.
Campeau finished with two goals and two assists while Jon Black also added four points with a goal and three assists. Jesse Painter tallied two goals and assist with Cam Foss tacking on one of each.
Matthew Coric recorded his fifth win of the season with 12 saves, including five in the third period to help the Argos pull away.

Argos Open Road Trip with Win Over Mars Hill
March 8 – The Notre Dame de Namur lacrosse team opened up their four game road trip with a 13-8 victory over Mars Hill. The Argos moved to 4-1 on the season while handing the Lions their first loss of the season.
The first half was back and forth with both teams scoring two goals in the first quarter. Owen Williams scored on a pass from Jesse Painter with 14:13 left in the second period and NDNU would not trail again. The Argonauts out scored MHC 4-3 in the second frame to take a 6-5 lead into halftime.
The Argos outscored the Lions again in the third quarter putting up two goals to increase their lead to 8-6. In the fourth, NDNU put the game out of reach with a 5-2 advantage, including the final three goals.
Cam Foss led the Argos with three goals while Painter added a team high five points (two goals and three assists). Tim Campeau recorded two goals and two assists with Brad Matzek and Nick Peterson scoring twice each.
Matt Coric picked up his fourth win of the season by making 11 saves.
Miles Robinson and Tyler Farmer led Mars Hill with two goals apiece. Danny Farmer scored one goals and added two assists while Nick Sigona played the entire contest in goal and made 16 saves.
NDNU out shot the Lions 39-29 while the ground ball battle was tied at 42 each. The Argos are back in action Monday night against Catawba. BOX SCORE
Coric Records Shutout, NDNU Defeats UC Davis
February 24 – The Notre Dame de Namur lacrosse team recorded their first shutout in nearly three years with a 15-0 win over UC Davis. Sophomore goalie Matthew Coric made 10 saves while the NDNU defense stopped eleven extra man opportunities to preserve the shutout.
The Argos started off slow, scoring two goals in both the first and second periods and taking a 4-0 lead into halftime. However, after the break NDNU came out firing and scored five goals in the first seven minutes of the third. After another goal in the final minute of the third period, the Argos added five more in the fourth.
Brad Matzek and Jesse Painter carried the NDNU offense early on as they each scored two goals in the first half. Matzek also assisted on both of Painter’s goals. Six different Argonauts scored in the third before NDNU scored on all three man-up opportunities in the fourth.
NDNU outshot the Aggies 40-24 for the game, including a 23-10 advantage in shots on goal. Coric was at his best in the second half, making eight of his ten saves in the final thirty minutes.
Matzek led all players with eight points on four goals and four assists. Tim Campeau collected six points (one goal, five assists) while Jesse Painter (three goals) and Cam Foss (two goals, one assist) each added three. Ryan Hulsey (two goals), Jon Black (one goal, one assist), Chris Fey (one goal) and Nick Campo (one goal) rounded out the NDNU scoring.
The Argos are off to North Carolina on March 4th for a four game road trip the will pit NDNU against Mars Hill, Catawba, St. Andrews and Belmont Abbey. BOX SCORE
Big First Period Leads Argos Past Grand Canyon
February 17 – The Notre Dame de Namur lacrosse team stormed out to an eight goal first period lead on their way to defeating Grand Canyon 20-7. The Argos rebounded from a tough 9-7 loss to Whitter a day earlier to improve to 2-1.
Jesse Painter gave the Argos an early cushion, scoring the games first two goals. Chris Fey and Brad Matzek also added a pair of goals later in the quarter. The Antelopes closed the gap to 14-7 in the third before NDNU rattled off six straight goals to put the game out of reach.
Matzek led the Argos with six points on four goals and two assists, while Conrad Clevlen and Jesse Painter each added three goals. Cam Foss tacked on two goals and three assists while Tim Campeau recorded three assists. Ryan Hulsey scored twice while Nick Huetteman, Owen Williams and Eric Tablante each added one.
The Argos are back in action Saturday afternoon at Koret Field when they take on UC Davis at 2:00 pm. BOX SCORE
Argos Down Claremont 17-10 in Season Opener
February 9 – The Notre Dame de Namur men’s lacrosse team overcame a slow start to handle Claremont College 17-10 in the Argos season opener.
The first period was tight throughout, with the Cougars striking first with 7:03 remaining. After the Argos took a 2-1 lead into the final minutes of the first, Claremont responded with two goals to go up 3-2. However, Brad Matzek’s goal in the final minute tied the score at 3-3.
The Argos would never trail again as the scored 12 of the next 13 goals over the course of the second and third periods. In the second, NDNU outscored the Cougars 8-1 and registered a 17-8 shot advantage.
In the second half, NDNU built their lead to 14-4 before Claremont closed the gap to seven in the final minute.
For the game, the Argos held a 37-35 shot advantage while Claremont led shots on goal 28-27. Goalies Matthew Coric and Jesse Wilkerson came up big in the net for NDNU, combining for 18 saves.
Tim Campeau led all players with 12 points, tallying four goals and eight assists. Matzek scored six goals and added three assists while Cam Foss tacked on four goals and two assists. Ryan Hulsey’s two goals and Jesse Painter’s one rounded out the scoring for NDNU.
Scott Trimble paced the Cougars with four goals while Phillip Trap and Brock Olson added two apiece.
The Argos are back in action next weekend when they travel to Whittier on Saturday and Grand Canyon on Sunday. BOX SCORE
Argos Releases 2008 Lacrosse Schedule
November 27 – The Notre Dame de Namur lacrosse team and Head Coach Joe Kerwin have announced their schedule for the upcoming 2008 season.
The Argos’ schedule features nine Division II games, including a game against powerhouse Mercyhurst. NDNU will travel to Erie, Pennsylvania on April 19th to face the Lakers. Mercyhurst finished the 2007 season with the #1 ranking in DII but fell to Le Moyne in the Championship.
In addition to Mercyhurst, the Argos will travel back east for six other games against Division II schools. On their first trip, starting on March 8th and ending March 15th, NDNU will take on Mars Hill, Catawba, St. Andrews and Belmont Abbey. Their second trip, which features the Merceyhurst game, will also pit the Argos against Wheeling Jesuit and Seton Hill.
NDNU is also scheduled to face Grand Canyon University, Whittier College, Claremont College, Dominican University, Chico State and UC Davis.
Grand Canyon added lacrosse this season and is a Division II independent while Whittier is a DIII school. The Argos and Poets are very familiar with each other, as they squared off twice last year with NDNU taking both games by one goal.
“I am very pleased with the schedule we have put together this season.” Coach Kerwin said. “With nine games against Division II teams, we will get an opportunity to see where we stand.”
The Argos will open the season February 9th at home against Claremont College. The game will be at 1:00 pm at Koret Field in Belmont, California.
Lacrosse Names Captains for 2008 Season
October 25 – The Notre Dame de Namur lacrosse team and Coach Joe Kerwin has named his captains for the upcoming season. Seniors Tim Campeau, Cam Foss and junior Cory Upshaw earned the delegation of captain for the Argos. All three started in every game last season while leading NDNU to an 11-3 overall record.
“I am very pleased that these three players were chosen as captains” Coach Kerwin said. “Each of them is very well respected by all the players and coaches on the team.”
Campeau is coming off a junior season that saw him set every single season offensive record in school history. He finished with 35 goals and 46 assists for 91 points on the season ranking him first all-time at NDNU in all three categories. Campeau scored at least one goal in 13 of 14 games last season and recorded at least one assist in every game. He registered a hat trick in six games and had eight more games with at least three assists. Campeau recorded a career high 10 points (six goals, four assists) against Boise State and notched eight points (five goals, three assists) in NDNU’s one goal loss to NYIT. He also scored the game winning goal with three second left in the Argos 14-13 victory over Whittier.
Foss also had a stellar year as an attackman, finishing second on the team in assists and third in points. He tallied 40 points (22 goals, 18 assists) on the season and recorded four hat tricks. Foss scored five points (three goals and two assists) against NYIT and four goals in NDNU’s last second win over Whittier.
Upshaw was a staple on defense for NDNU last season, consistently guarding the opposing team’s best offensive player. He finished sixth on the team in groundballs and also recorded two assists.
The Argos open up the 2008 season on February 16 with a game at Whittier.
NDNU LACROSSE ALUMS TAKEN IN NLL ENTRY DRAFT
September 4 – A pair of former Notre Dame de Namur lacrosse players were selected in the 2007 National Lacrosse League Entry Draft on Saturday. Keegan Davidson and Mark Sherman were both selected in the second round of the pro lacrosse draft, held at Pepsi Center in Denver, Colorado. Davidson was taken with the 20th overall selection by the to-be-named Boston expansion franchise while Sherman was taken one pick later with 21st overall selection by the Toronto Rock.
Davidson, a midfielder from Calgary played for four years at NDNU. He finished his senior season with 19 goals and five assists despite playing just 11 games.
Scherman, a high school teammate of Davidson’s from Central Memorial High in Calgary also played for four seasons at NDNU in the midfield. Scherman finished second on the team last season with 32 goals and added seven assists in 14 games played.
Davidson and Scherman are the first players from NDNU to ever be drafted by a professional league.
The National Lacrosse League has been in existence since 1987 and is North America's only professional indoor lacrosse league. The NLL has fourteen teams playing in the major markets of the United States and Canada. NLL teams each play a 16-game regular season schedule that begins in December and runs through April, followed by the Champion's Cup Playoffs.
NDNU Hires New Lacrosse Coach
August 29 – The Notre Dame de Namur University athletic department has announced the hiring of Joe Kerwin as the head lacrosse coach.
Kerwin comes to NDNU after coaching at the University of Oregon for the past five seasons. Kerwin started at Oregon as an assistant coach for three years before taking over head coaching duties in 2006. He led the Ducks to a 35-8 record the past two seasons and an appearance in the 2007 Men's Collegiate Lacrosse Association Championship Game. Kerwin was also named MCLA and PNCLL Coach of the Year in 2007.
As a player, Kerwin played for four seasons at Roger Williams University in Rhode Island.
“I am excited about the opportunity to coach at NDNU and look forward to building on the team’s success this season.” Kerwin said. The Argos finished last season with an 11-3 record and will begin their 2008 season in February.
Lacrosse Signs Three Players from Nevada
June 7 - The NDNU lacrosse program has announced the signings of three of the top players from the state of Nevada. Nick Campo, Josh Ferreiro and Nick Peterson have all committed to NDNU for next season.
Campo, a three-time Las Vegas Lacrosse League First-Team selection was named WSL 2006 Nevada Player of the Year. He also led Bonanza High School to the State Championship this season and holds the school records in goals, assists and points. Campo is expected to make an immediate impact in the midfield for the Argos next season.
“We are really excited to have Nick join us.” Coach Joe Romano said. “He is very quick with strong stick skills and while he is incredibly unselfish, he also has a nose for the goal.
Centennial High School teammates, Ferreiro and Peterson were also named to the 2007 Las Vegas Lacrosse League First-Team after outstanding senior seasons. Ferreiro is expected to be a big help on face-offs right away while Peterson will add some depth to the attack position.
When Campo, Ferreiro and Peterson take the field next season, they will be the first Nevadans to play NCAA lacrosse at the Division II level.

Seniors Lead Argos Past Seton Hill in Final Game
April 3 – The Notre Dame de Namur lacrosse team closed out their fourth season with a 20-6 rout over Seton Hill University. The Argos never trailed in the game, scoring the games first seven goals and taking an 8-1 lead into halftime. The second half was much of the same for NDNU, scoring seven goals in the third and five in the fourth while out shooting SHU 43-25 for the game.
In their final game at NDNU, the 17 Argo seniors who helped build the program led the way by scoring 15 of the teams 20 goals. Mark Scherman (five goals), Justin Der (three goals) and Keegan Davidson (three goals) wrapped up their four year careers at NDNU by combining for 11 goals. Jon Munk scored twice in his final game while fellow seniors JC Vera and Erick Jaime each scored once. Senior goalies Billy Doss and Dave Purcell anchored the net for the Argos, each playing a half and making four saves.
Juniors Tim Campeau and Cam Foss each added a pair of goals with Jon Black tacking on another. The Argos ended the year with a pair of double digit road victories over NCAA-sanctioned teams to finish 11-3 on the season. BOX SCORE
NDNU Topples Wheeling Jesuit
April 2 – The NDNU lacrosse team rebounded from a tough loss to handle Wheeling Jesuit 19-9 and pick up their tenth victory of the season. The Argos never trailed in the game, leading 3-2 after the first period, 10-5 at halftime and 14-8 after the third.
Justin Der led the NDNU attack, scoring a season high four goals while Cam Foss and Tim Campeau scored three goals apiece. Campeau also taked on a season high six assists. Brad Matzek and Erick Jaime tacked on two goals apiece with five other Argos each scoring once. Dave Purcell picked up the win in the net for Argos, making 14 saves. Argos Fall at Mercyhurst
March 31 – The NDNU lacrosse team could not hold off powerhouse Mercyhurst College, falling 12-4. The Argos started quickly, scoring the games first two goals in the opening minutes. Mercyhurst responded with eight straight goals over the next 27 minutes to build a six goal lead and never look back. The Argos out shot the Lakers 15-3 in the first quarter, but managed just 21 shots over the final three quarters while Mercyhurst racked up 42.
Tim Campeau led the Argos with a goal and an assist, both coming in the opening minutes of the game. Justin Der, Mark Sherman and Conrad Clevlen each scored a goal for NDNU while Jon Munk added an assist. Mercyhurst was led by Mike Thorn’s four goals and Jason Lashom’s 14 saves. BOX SCORE
Argos Handle Boise State
March 28– The NDNU lacrosse team jumped out to big lead before coasting to a 23-3 victory over Boise State. The Argos scored the games first 11 goals, eight of which came in the first period. NDNU out shot the Broncos 64-10, registering 31 shots before Boise State took their first.
Tim Campeau and Brad Matzek had big games for the Argos, finishing with a combined 19 points. Campeau led all players with 10 points, racking up six goals and four assists. Matzek added an Argo season high seven goals and also dished out two assists. Cam Foss tacked on a goal and five assists while Mark Scherman recorded three scores. The Argos close out their season with a three game road trip starting Saturday against Division II powerhouse Mercyhurst. BOX SCORE
Big First Period Leads Argos Past Dominican
March 21 – The NDNU lacrosse team improved to 8-2 on the season with a 24-4 defeat of Dominican University. The Argos scored ten goals in the first period, including the last nine unanswered to bust the game wide open. The second was much of the same with the Argos scoring four more and taking a 14-2 lead into halftime. NDNU would go on to tack on seven goals in the third and three in the fourth to close out the game. The Argos took 60 shots to just seven from the Penguins and also picked up 64 groundballs to 18 from Dominican.
Brad Matzek (four goals, four assists) and Tim Campeau (three goals, five assists) led NDNU with eight points each while Keegan Davidson (five goals, one assist) tacked on six. Mark Scherman and Justin Der added three goals each with Jesse Painter scoring two more. The Argos are back in action Saturday for an exhibition game with the Marin Lacrosse Club at noon. BOX SCORE
NDNU Topples Whittier By One Goal Again
March 10 – The Notre Dame de Namur lacrosse team picked up their second one goal victory of the season over Whittier with a 12-11 win at the First Four. The Argos improved to 3-0 all-time against the Poets and moved to 7-2 overall on the season. Whittier jumped out to an early lead, leading 5-1 after one and 8-5 at halftime. The Argos closed with one goal going into the fourth before taking the lead for good at 11-10.
Cam Foss and Justin Der led the Argos with three goals each while Tim Campeau added two goals and two assists. Keegan Davidson scored twice and Mark Scherman tacked on a goal and an assist. The Argos are back home on March 21st against Dominican College for the first of three home games.
Argos Finish Florida Trip at 2-1
March 7 – The NDNU lacrosse team finished up their five day, three game Florida road trip with a 13-5 win over Eastern University. The Argos, playing their sixth game in eight days finished the trip with a 2-1 record. The two wins came against Eastern and St. Leo's while the loss was at the hands of Catawba.
The trip started off well as the Argos downed St. Leo's 8-3. Mike Ferrari came up big, making a season high 17 saves. Mark Scherman and Matt Marr scored two goals each with Tim Campeau adding a pair of assists.
The second game did not go as well with the Argos falling to Catawba 9-7. The Argos trailed for much of the game and could not make up an 8-6 deficit going into the fourth period. Justin Der recorded a hat trick with three goals and two assists while Campeau added two goals and two assists.
The Argos returned to form in the final game of the road trip, handling Eastern 13-5. NDNU used seven unanswered goal in the second and third periods to pull away. Campeau finished with two goals and five assists while Der, Scherman, Cam Foss and Jon Black each scored twice. The Argos improved to 6-2 on the season.
NDNU Rallies Past BYU
February 28– The Notre Dame de Namur lacrosse team rebounded from a slow start to comeback and defeat BYU 17-11. The Argos got on the board first, scoring the games first goal with 12:22 left in the first quarter. BYU quickly responded with four straight goals, including two in the final 30 seconds of the first. The Argos would rebound in the second, scoring six goals and taking a one goal lead into halftime. Each team netted three goals in the third as the game moved into the fourth with the Argos up 10-9. NDNU would run away with the game in the fourth, scoring seven goals, including three in a row from Mark Scherman.
Scherman, Matt Marr and Brad Matzek led the Argos with four goals each with Matzek adding a pair of assists. Tim Campeau added a pair of goals and five assists while Jon Black, Cam Foss and Justin Der each scored a goal and added an assist. Mike Ferrari made 10 saves on the way to his fourth victory of the season. Mark Davis led the Cougars with four goals, including the team's first three scores. Corey Gunderson and Ted Ferrin added a pair of goals apiece. Goalie Christian Kikumoto made 13 saves, eight of which came in the first half. The Argos improved to 4-1 on the season and are off to Florida to begin their first road trip. The trip includes games against Division II schools; St Leo's, Catawba and Eastern University before going to San Diego to face Whittier. BOX SCORE
Argos Storm Past Westminster 22-2
February 26– The NDNU lacrosse team easily handled visiting Westminster College, defeating the Griffins 22-2. The Argos scored the games first 17 goals before Westminster got on the board in the third quarter. The Argos rattled off 46 shots and picked up 61 groundballs to just 13 and 22 from the Griffins. NDNU also won 17 of the games 26 faceoffs.
Brad Matzek, making his first appearance of the season scored five goals and added an assist. Mark Scherman scored four of his own while Tim Campeau tacked on three goals and two assists. Justin Der, Owen O'Shea and Josh Russell had two scores each for the Argos, with Der adding three assists as well. Mike Ferrari earned his third win of the season making a pair of saves. Brad Watkins and Ben Haverkost each scored a goal for Westminster. BOX SCORE
Argos Fall to NYiT in Final Minutes
February 24 – The Notre Dame de Namur lacrosse team could not finish off a magnificent comeback, falling to the New York Institute of Technology 14-13. The Argos did not lead all game long, but constantly fought back to keep the score close. The two teams alternated goals in the first quarter with each side scoring three times before the Bears went ahead in the second netting three goals while the Argos managed just one. After each team scored two more times, the Bears rattled off three straight to push their margin to five goals at 11-6. However, the Argos were far from out of it, scoring five of the next six goals and moving to within one. After a NDNU penalty, Austin Carino scored his fourth goal of the half to give the Bears a 13-11 lead but it did not last long as the Argos once again responded by scoring a pair of goals in eight seconds to tie the game with 4:21 left. NYiT would cap off the scoring on an unassisted goal by Al Maione with 2:16 left. The Argos got one last chance but Tim Campeau’s shot with two seconds left was saved and ended the game.
Tim Campeau led all players with five goals for the Argos, upping his season total to nine. Campeau also added a game high three assists while Cam Foss tacked on three goals and two assists. Keegan Davidson had his third straight two goal game with Matt Marr adding a pair of goals as well for NDNU. Kevin Hennessy and Austin Carino scored four goals each for New York Tech while Jake Delillo added three scores. Dan Goosk came up big in the net for the Bears, making 19 saves while Mike Ferrari made 10 for the Argos. BOX SCORE
Argos Prevail Over Whittier in Final Three Seconds
February 10 – The Notre Dame de Namur lacrosse team won in dramatic fashion, using a last second goal by Tim Campeau to defeat Whittier College 14-13. The Argos and Poets battled back and forth all game long until Campeau’s goal with three seconds left sealed the game for the Argos. That would be Campeau’s lone goal of the day, but he did add a team high four assists. Cam Foss scored four times for NDNU while Mark Sherman, Jessie Painter and Keegan Davidson added two goals apiece. Justin Der tacked on one goal and three assists and Jon Black added a goal and two assists. Nick Reis picked up a game high seven groundballs and Mike Ferrari once again earned the win in the net by making 11 saves. Anthony Lackey scored five goals for Whittier while Christian Wright added three of his own. The Argos are back in action in two weeks when they take on NCAA powerhouse NYIT at Koret Field. BOX SCORE
Argos Open Season with Victory Over UC Davis
February 3 - The NDNU men's lacrosse team started out the 2007 season strong with a 15-4 victory over visiting UC Davis. The Argos used ten straight second half goals to keep the Aggies playing from behind. UC Davis struck first, scoring the first goal just two minutes into the game. NDNU responded back, scoring the next five goals, including two with a man up. The Aggies made the game close, scoring three straight to cut the Argo lead to one thirty seconds into the third period. However, that would be as close as UC Davis would get. The Argos fired off ten straight goals, including six unanswered to end the third quarter.
Tim Campeau led the NDNU attack, picking up a hat trick and added four assists and five groundballs. Justin Der added two goals and two assists, while Keegan Davidson, Mark Scherman and JC Vera each tacked on a pair of goals. Jon Black and Cam Foss each scored a goal and added an assist. Goalie Mike Ferrari picked up the win, making seven saves for the game. Conrad Clevlen won 11 of 13 face-offs and had a game high eight groundballs. Daniel Vilar scored a pair of goals for the Aggies who were out shot 46-20. The Argos are back in action with a game against rival Whittier College next Saturday at 1:00 pm at Koret Field. BOX SCORE
Argos Prepare for 2007
The 2007 NDNU Men’s Lacrosse Team is poised for a huge season this year. The Argos schedule includes two trips to the east coast to take on schools in Pennsylvania and Florida. NDNU will take on Mercyhurst College, a National Semi Final participant last year, Catawba College and St. Leo’s University. The Argos will also welcome in national powerhouse New York Institute of Technology as well as Whittier College, UC Davis and BYU to their newly remodeled state-of the-art playing surface. Coach Romano returns a core group of seniors led by last season’s captains Mark Scherman, Justin Der, and Geoff Farrer. Mike Ferrari will once again anchor the Argos in the cage, with junior Tim Campeau leading the team offensively.
