Argos Sweep Dominican

April 26 – The Notre Dame de Namur softball team pulled off their second sweep of Dominican this season with a pair of wins of the road.  The Argos took the first game 6-5 in extra innings before downing the Penguins 3-1 in game two. 

In the first game, Tara Van Meter came on in relief to throw the final 7.1 innings and earn the victory.  Starter Laurel Carstensen allowed three runs in the first before Van Meter allowed just two runs – one earned – for the rest of the game.  Danielle Holt led the Argonaut comeback with three hits and three RBIs while Tara-lyn Odo drove in a pair of runs.  BOX SCORE

Cierra Keeney shutdown the Penguins in the second game to lead NDNU to a 3-1 victory.  Keeney surrendered just one run in six innings of relief as the Argos jumped out a three run lead and never looked back.  Tanya Huson and Bryanne Norris each picked up a pair of hits whule Van Meter, Odo and Norris each drove in a run.  BOX SCORE

 

Argos Drop a Pair on Senior Day

April 19 – The Notre Dame de Namur softball team closed out their 2008 home schedule with a pair of high scoring defeats to Grand Canyon.  The Argos fell 13-5 in game one before dropping the second game 9-7.

NDNU struggled in the field in the first game, committing five errors that led to ten unearned runs.  Danielle Holt led the Argos offense with two hits, a homerun, three RBIs and a stolen base.  Tara Van Meter, Tara-Lyn Odo and Bryanne Norris each added a pair of hits.  BOX SCORE

In the second game, the Argos surrendered an early four run lead after Yasmeen Watkins’s grand slam put the ‘Lopes up for good.  Bria DeLorenzo went deep twice for NDNU, finishing with three hits and four RBIs.  Norris also tacked on a solo homerun and a double.  BOX SCORE

The Argos are back in action on Tuesday against Humboldt State.

 

Argos, Seawolves Split Twinbill

April 14 – The Notre Dame de Namur softball team earned a split with Sonoma State in Monday’s non-conference doubleheader.  The Argos surrendered an early lead in game one to fall 7-3 before erasing a three run deficit in the second game to win 7-3.

In the first game, the Argos could not hold onto a three run lead as Sonoma State scored six runs in the seventh inning to win 7-3.  NDNU got on the board in the second inning with a pair of runs before adding another in the third.  Cierra Keeney drove in one run while Danielle Holt’s walk in the third gave the Argos a 3-0 lead.

The Seawolves finally got to Laurel Carstensen in the fifth, pushing one run across on a RBI double by Dani Lopez.  Carstensen cruised through the sixth and got two outs in the seventh before the Sonoma State comeback turned the tides.  The Seawolves collected four straight hits with Kayla Ledford’s single knocking in a pair and tying the game.  After a walk loaded the bases, Nikki Freiberg belted a grand slam to put SSU up for good. 

Brittany Williams rebounded from a slow start to hold the Argos scoreless through the final four frames.  Cartsensen received the loss after allowing six runs in 6.2 innings.  Five different Argonauts collected hits with Keeney and Holt picking up an RBI each.  BOX SCORE

The second game went Sonoma’s way early as the visitors plated a run in the second on a RBI single by Britni Geary.  Nicole Cordova delivered a two-run homerun in the third to push the lead to 3-0 and drive starter Cierra Keeney out of the game. 

Tara Van Meter cut the Seawolves lead to one with one swing of the bat in the third.  Van Meter blasted Sonoma State starter Kayla Ledford full count pitch over the centerfield wall for a two-run homerun.  Cassie Moser put the Argos up 4-3 in the fourth with a two-run homerun of her own.  NDNU would add another in the inning before scoring two more in the sixth to take a 7-3 advantage.

Van Meter earned the victory with 4.2 innings of scoreless pitching while picking up a homerun and four RBIs at the plate.  Tanya Huson finished with three hits while Danielle Gray and Bria DeLorenzo each picked up a pair.  BOX SCORE

The Argos are back in action Friday with a PacWest doubleheader against Grand Canyon at noon.

 

Argos Drop Three of Four at Dixie State

April 12 – The Notre Dame de Namur softball team struggled in Utah, dropping three of their four games against Dixie State.  On Friday, the Argos surrendered a big lead in game one to lose 5-4, before falling 7-1 in game two.  Saturday started much of the same with the Rebels taking the first game 10-1.  NDNU responded in the second game with a 6-2 victory.

In the first game on Friday, the Argos took a 4-1 lead after homeruns by Tanya Huson and Cierra Keeney.  The Rebels rallied back to tie the game in the seventh before Brittany Fowler and Christina Dixon collected back-to-back hits in the eight to give Dixie a 5-4 victory.  Tara Van Meter recorded two hits and two RBIs while pitching 5.2 innings and surrendering just three runs.  BOX SCORE

Game two was all Rebels as they broke the game open in the fifth and sixth with six combined runs.  Tara-lyn Odo collected two hits for the Argos while Bryanne Norris drove in the only run in a 7-1 defeat.  Keeney suffered the loss after allowing five earned runs in a complete game while Jessie Dunn held NDNU to just one run in 6.2 innings.  BOX SCORE

Saturday’s first game did not start well for the Argos as Dixie State scored in six of the seven innings, including a four run fourth.  Norris delivered two of the Argos six hits while driving in the lone run.  Haley Schumers earned the victory for DSC after allowing just one run in five innings of work while Fowler drove in three runs on three hits.  BOX SCORE

The Argos rebounded in the final game of the series as Keeney hurled a complete game to improve to 8-7 on the season.  Keeney surrendered just four hits and two runs while striking out a pair.  NDNU took control in the first two innings, plating three runs in each and cruising to a 6-2 victory.  Lindsay Crist drove in three with a homerun in the second inning and Danielle Holt collected three hits.  BOX SCORE

NDNU dropped to 18-25 on the season and moved to 8-12 in Pacific West play.  They return home this week to take on Sonoma State and Grand Canyon. 

 

Argos Blast Dominican

March 29 – The Notre Dame de Namur softball team brought out their bats in a pair of five inning victories over Dominican University.  The Argos used back-to-back-to-back homeruns in game one to win 8-0 before scoring in every inning of game two to win 10-0.

In game one, the Argos scored a run in both the second and third inning before busting the game open in the fourth.  Tara-lyn Odo, Dani Langit and Tanya Huson started the fourth off with consecutive singles to load bases.  Lindsay Crist stepped in and took the Deena Westrope offering over the leftfield fence for a grand slam.  Tara Van Meter and Bria DeLorenzo followed with long balls to give NDNU back-to-back-to-back homeruns.

Van Meter also shined on the mound, earning the victory after allowing just three hits in five shutout innings.  Danielle Holt, Odo, Huson and Crist recorded two hits apiece to lead the NDNU offense.  BOX SCORE

The second game was much of the same as the Argos earned another big victory.  NDNU scored two runs in first and second innings before adding four more in the third and two in the fourth.  DeLorenzo drove in both first inning runs with a bases loaded single while Crist brought in two with a triple in the second.  After RBIs from Danielle Gray and Odo, Huson ripped a two-run double to give NDNU an 8-0 advantage.  Cassie Moser capped off the scoring with a two-run double in the fourth.

Laurel Carstensen picked up the win for the Argos with five innings of two-hit ball.  She struck out six and walked three.  DeLorenzo went 3 for 3 to lead NDNU while Huson, Crist and Odo registered two hits each.  DeLorenzo, Huson, Crist and Moser also drove in two runs apiece.  BOX SCORE

The Argos are back in action next Saturday when they hit the road to take on Chico State.

 

HPU Earns Second Straight Sweep of NDNU

March 26, 2008 – For the second straight day, the Notre Dame de Namur softball team was swept at the hands of first place Hawaii Pacific.  The Argos fought hard in a 4-0 loss in game one before falling 10-1 in game two. 

Courtney Kessell kept the Argo bats silent in the first game, allowing just two hits and striking out eight.  The Seasiders produced just four hits on the game, but made the most of them, scoring four runs.  They plated two in the second despite picking up just one hit and added another in both the fifth and sixth innings.

Tara Van Meter suffered the loss for NDNU after allowing three runs – one earned – on four plus innings of work.  Van Meter gave up three hits, walked five and struck out six.  Laurel Carstensen came on in relief to hurl two innings of one run ball.

Cierra Keeney and Tara-lyn Odo collected the Argonaut hits while four different Seasiders recorded one hit apiece.  BOX SCORE

The Argos got on the board first in game two, scoring a run in the top of the first.  After a Lindsay Crist double, Bria DeLorenzo drove her in with a single to give NDNU their first lead of the series.  However, it did not last long as Nicole Kalakau belted a two-run homerun off Keeney to give HPU a 2-1 advantage. 

HPU blew the game open in the second, scoring five times and taking a 7-1 lead.  Laine Shikuma drove home one with a double before Kalakau and Jessica Adolph plated two more with hits of their own.  The Seasiders would go on to add another in the third and two more in the fourth to take the game 10-1.

Sherise Musquiz earned the win for HPU with five innings of one run ball while Keeney suffered the loss.  DeLorenzo delivered two of the Argos three hits and added an RBI.  Adolph and Skikuma collected three hits and two RBIs apiece for the Seasiders with Kalakau adding two hits and four RBIs.  BOX SCORE

The Argos moved to 7-9 in PacWest games and are back in action Saturday at noon for a non-conference twinbill with Dominican University. 

 

Argos Swept by First Place HPU

March 25 – The Notre Dame de Namur softball team fell to 7-7 in PacWest play with a pair of losses to first place Hawaii Pacific.  The Argos fell 9-1 in the first game before dropping game two 8-0.

The first game started out close, with each team scoring one in run in the second inning.  The Seasiders plated one on a RBI single by Nicole Rivera before the Argos tied the score on Cierra Keeney’s two-out RBI single.  HPU was back at it in third, taking a 3-1 lead after Krystal Plunkett drove in one with a single and Tajia Acierto added another with a sacrifice fly.

The most important play of the game came in the bottom of the when Lindsay Crist nearly gave the Argonauts a lead.  With two runners on, Crist belted a pitch to straight away centerfield but was robbed of a homerun by Acierto.  Acierto made the catch while crashing into the fence before getting up to catch Tara-lyn Odo trying to score at the plate. 

The Seasider bats picked up again in the fifth, scoring four two-out runs on five hits.  The sixth was much of the same as HPU used four hits to plate two more and end the game 9-1.

Laurel Carstensen surrendered three runs in three innings before Tara Van Meter came on in relief to allow six runs.  Courtney Kessell earned the victory for HPU with five innings of one run ball.  Plunkett and Nicole Riviera led the Seasiders with four hits apiece as the team racked up 16 hits for the game.  Riviera also added four RBIs while Acierto and Ciera Senas drove in two apiece.  BOX SCORE

In the second game, HPU picked up where they left off, scoring a run in both the first and third innings.  With the Argo bats silenced by Sherise Musquiz, the Seasiders once again got to Keeney in the fourth with two runs on five consecutive singles.  HPU added another in the fifth and three more in the seventh to extend their advantage to 8-0. 

Keeney registered the loss for NDNU, allowing eight runs – five earned – in seven innings of work.  Musquiz kept the Argos off balance all game long, earning the win with six shutout innings.  Five Seasiders finished with two hits in the game.  Van Meter recorded two hits for the Argos with Danielle Holt collecting a double.  BOX SCORE

These two teams meet again tomorrow afternoon for a doubleheader starting at noon. 

 

 

Argos and Seasiders Split Again

March 22 – For the fourth consecutive PacWest doubleheader, the Notre Dame de Namur softball team dropped the opening game before rebounding to take game two.  The Argonauts split two games with BYU Hawaii, falling in game one 6-5 in eight innings and winning the second game 6-4.   

The first game started out perfectly for NDNU as Tanya Huson led off the game with a homerun.  Lindsay Crist followed with a single before moving to third on Tara Van Meter’s double.  Crist would later score on a sacrifice fly before Bryanne Norris drove in the third run of the inning with a single.  Bettye Doering got one run back for the Seasiders with a RBI single in the bottom of the inning.

The Argos plated another in the second on Van Meter’s sacrifice fly before BYU replace Doering with Crystal De La Cruz.  De La Cruz got the final two outs of the inning and went on to retire the first 14 batters she faced.  With the NDNU offense stagnant, the Seasiders rallied to tie the score in the fifth.  After putting two runners on, Van Meter surrended a three-run homerun to Doering which tied the game a 4-4.

Huson came up big in the seventh, putting the Argos back on top with a RBI double to left.  However, BYUH knotted the score once again as Athena Salinas drew a bases loaded walk to send the game to extra innings.  In the eight, the Argos went down quietly before De La Cruz gave herself the victory with a walk-off RBI single. 

Van Meter received the loss for NDNU after surrendering six runs – three earned – in 7.1 innings.  De La Cruz earned the win for the Seasiders with 6.2 innings of one run ball.  Huson and Crist eached picked up a pair of hits for the Argos with Huson also driving in a pair.  Doering was the run producer for BYUH, driving in four on a pair of hits.  BOX SCORE

NDNU once again got on the board first in game two, plating two runs in the opening frame.  Crist belted a solo homerun before Norris drove in another with a single to leftfield.  Kahea Bethan cut the Seasiders deficit to in half with a solo homerun of her own in the bottom of the second. 

The Argos tacked on three more in the third and one in the seventh to take a 6-1 advantage.  Keeney helped her own cause with a RBI single in the third inning and Milana Jordan drove in another on a squeeze play.  In the seventh, NDNU scored on an error by the Seasider’s catcher that allowed Holt to score. 

After surrendering the second inning homerun, NDNU pitcher Cierra Keeney rebounded with four scoreless innings.  BYU Hawaii rallied in the seventh to score three runs, but would not get any closer.  She went the distance to improve to 7-2 on the season and moved to 5-1 in PacWest starts. 

Keeney also came up big at the plate with three hits, a RBI and a stolen base.  Crist and Norris also recorded multiple hits and a RBI.  BOX SCORE

The Argos moved to 7-5 in conference play with the Seasiders falling to 4-8.  PacWest continues next Tuesday and Wednesday when the Argos square off against first place Hawaii Pacific for four games. 

 

 

Argos, Seasiders Split Twinbill

March 21 – The Notre Dame de Namur softball team improved to 6-4 in Pacific West play with a split in Friday’s doubleheader against BYU Hawaii.  The Argos fell 8-7 in game one after their furious seventh inning comeback fell short before rebounding to take game two 8-4. 

In the first game, the Argos built an early lead before the Seasiders responded with seven straight runs.  NDNU got on the board in the first on a bases loaded walk by Bryanne Norris and added another in the third on Danielle Holt’s RBI single.  Pitcher Bettye Doering cut the deficit in half with a solo homerun in the top of the fourth.

The Seasiders got to NDNU starter Cierra Keeney in the fifth with six runs to take a 7-2 lead.  The visitors collected six hits in the inning, five of which were doubles, including back-to-back two-out two-run doubles Kahea Bethan and Kim Artiaga.  Tanya Huson got one run back for the Argos with a leadoff homerun in the fifth but BYUH scored again in the top of the sixth to take an 8-3 lead.

Despite being down five runs in the seventh, NDNU refused to quit with three straight hits to leadoff the inning.  After Lindsay Crist drove in a run, Tara Van Meter plated another with a sacrifice fly.  Relief pitcher Crystal De La Cruz retired two batters before Norris brought the Argos within one with a two-out two-run double.  However, De La Cruz retired Cassie Moser to end the game and preserve the 8-7 victory.

Keeney’s streak of four straight victories came to an end after surrendering seven runs – six earned – in five innings.  Doering earned the win for the Seasiders with six plus innings of work.  Huson, Van Meter and Holt each picked a pair of hits for NDNU while Norris drove in three runs.  The Seasiders got hits from eight of their nine starters including five with two hits.  BOX SCORE

NDNU carried their hot bats over to the second game despite falling behind in the first.  The Seasiders scored a pair in the first on a two-out single by Artiaga before Crist and Norris each belted a two-run homerun in the bottom of the inning.  

The Argos added another in the second on a sacrifice fly by Crist. Norris struck again in the third with a two-run double and later scored on Keeney’s sacrifice fly to give NDNU an 8-2 advantage..  BYU chipped away with a run in both the fifth and sixth innings but missed a chance to get more when Jessica Soli was caught trying to score on a passed ball. 

Laurel Carstensen earned the win for NDNU, allowing just two earned runs in seven innings of work.  She pitched her way out of several jams and stranded nine BYU base runners.  Norris, Holt and Tara-lyn Odo picked up a pair of hits apiece while Crist drove in three.  Norris finished with four RBIs in the second game to give her seven for the doubleheader.  BOX SCORE

These two teams square off again tomorrow afternoon for another doubleheader starting at noon. 

 

Argos Earn Second Straight Split with Hawaii Hilo

March 14 – For the second straight day, the Notre Dame de Namur softball team split a doubleheader with Hawaii Hilo.  The Argos dropped the first game 5-1 before rebounding to win game two 3-0 on a Tara Van Meter walk-off homerun.

In the first game, the Vulcans took an early lead with a bases loaded walk in the first inning.  The Argos tied the score in the bottom of the second on a sacrifice fly by Bryanne Norris that scored Danielle Holt.  However, UHH scored the next four runs to take the game 5-1. 

Van Meter received the loss on the mound for NDNU, surrendering five runs – four earned – in seven innings of work.  Holt collected a pair of hits for the Argos at the plate.  BOX SCORE

The second game was all pitching with Cierra Keeney and Amanda May hold each offense scoreless through six innings.  Keeney pitched a perfect seventh before the Argos got to May in the bottom of the inning.  May retired the first two batters of the inning, before Tanya Huson singled and Lindsay Crist was hit by a pitch to give NDNU a pair of base runners.  Van Meter followed with a three-run walk-off homerun to end the game and give the Argos a 3-0 victory. 

Keeney won her fourth straight game on the Hawaii road trip and improved to 6-1 on the season.  She allowed just four hits and struck out two while earning her second complete game shutout of the trip.  In Hawaii, Keeney allowed just three runs in 28 innings of work and went 4-0. 

Van Meter recorded three hits and drove in three while Keeney also came up with two hits at the plate.  BOX SCORE

The Argos improved to 5-3 in PacWest play and will continue conference play with a pair of doubleheaders against BYU Hawaii on Thursday and Friday.     

 

Argos Split at Hawaii Hilo

March 12 – In their third conference doubleheader of the season, the Notre Dame de Namur softball team moved to 4-2 in the PacWest with a split with Hawaii Hilo.  The Argos dropped the first game 4-3 on a walk-off homerun before rebounding to defeat the Vulcans 4-1 in game two.

In the first game, pitchers Tara Van Meter and Amanda May cruised through the first three innings without surrendering a run.  The Argos struck first in the fourth on a RBI single by Bryanne Norris but the lead would not last long.  UHH plated three in the bottom of the inning on a bases clearing double by Brianne Adams.  NDNU would tie the score in the top of fifth on a hit by pitch and a RBI single by Danielle Holt.  The game moved to the bottom of the seventh still tied at three before Kanani Numata led off the inning with a walk-off homerun to give Hilo a 4-3 victory. 

Van Meter suffered the loss with four runs in six plus innings of work while reliever Christina Pedroza earned the victory with 2.2 innings of scoreless ball.  Van Meter allowed only three hits and struck out seven.  Tanya Huson and Holt each picked up a pair of hits while Holt and Norris drove in one run apiece.  BOX SCORE

The second game was all NDNU as Cierra Keeney cooled the Vulcan bats to improve in 5-1 on the season.  Keeney moved to 3-0 on the Hawaii trip with her third straight complete game victory.  She surrendered just one run and struck out four in the 4-1 victory. 

The Argos once again struck first, taking a 1-0 lead on a wild pitch that scored Huson.  Hilo tied the score in the bottom of the inning on a RBI single by Brittany Dock.  The game moved to the sixth still knotted at 1-1 before NDNU plated three runs to put the game out of reach.  After the Argos loaded the bases with two outs, Norris delivered a bases clearing double to move the score to 4-1.  With a three run cushion, Keeney allowed just one hit over the final two innings to preserve the victory. 

Huson collected three hits on the game while Norris drove in three with a double.  BOX SCORE

The Argos and Vulcans square off again tomorrow afternoon for the final two games of their Hawaii road trip. 

 

Argos Sweep Chaminade, Move to 3-1 in Conference

March 11 – A day after splitting their first conference doubleheader of the season, the Notre Dame de Namur softball team responded with a sweep of Chaminade.  The Argos moved to 3-1 in PacWest play, winning 6-4 in game one and 5-2 in game two.

The Swords jumped out to an early lead in first game, scoring one run in the first and three more in the second.  Down by four, the Argos tied the game with a big second inning.  NDNU plated two on fielding miscues by Chaminade before Lindsay Crist delivered a game tying two-run single.

The game stayed knotted at four apiece until the sixth, when the Argos scored two more to take the lead for good.  Danielle Holt delivered a RBI single and Bria De Lorenzo drove in another to give NDNU the victory.

Tara Van Meter earned her fifth win of the season with a complete game.  She allowed four runs – two earned – and struck out four.  Crist and Dani Langit finished with two hits apiece and combined to drive in three runs.  BOX SCORE

In the second game the Argos never trailed, scoring the games first five runs.  NDNU scored three times in the third thanks to singles by Milana Jordan, Tanya Huson, Lindsay Crist and Bria De Lorenzo.  Cassie Moser added a two-run double in the sixth to extent the Argonaut lead to five.  Chaminade scored twice in the seventh but would not get any closer.

Cierra Keeney improved to 4-1 on the season with her second consecutive complete game victory over the Swords.  She surrendered just two runs and struck out four.  De Lorenzo collected two hits while Moser drove in two and Huson scored twice.  BOX SCORE

The Argos are back in action Thursday when they travel to Hilo to face UHH in a doubleheader. 

 

Argos Split with Chaminade in PacWest Opener

March 10 – The Notre Dame de Namur softball team opened Pacific West play by splitting a doubleheader with Chaminade.  The Argos fell 3-2 in the first game after the Swords rallied in the seventh before taking the second game 2-0.

In game one, the Argos took a 1-0 lead in the first behind a sacrifice fly by Danielle Holt.  Tara Van Meter added a solo homerun in the fourth to push the margin to two.  The Swords pulled within one run in the sixth before plating two in the seventh to win.  BOX SCORE

Lindsay Crist and Cierra Keeney led NDNU in the second game.  Crist delivered a first inning two-run homerun to score the games only runs.  Keeney held Chaminade scoreless with a complete game shutout.  She allowed just five hits and struck out four.  BOX SCORE

The Argos and Swords square off again tomorrow afternoon for another doubleheader. 

 

Argos Swept by San Francisco State

March 6 - The Notre Dame de Namur softball team fell twice at the hands of San Francisco State in Thursday's non-conference doubleheader.  The Argos could not get the bats going, managing just four hits and one run in the two games.  SF State took the first game 6-1 two-hitter by Ashley Jackson. The second game was much of the same as Kendra Wood hurled a two-hit shutout and struck out seven. Tanya Huson picked up two of the four NDNU hits and scored the teams only run.

Van Meter Named PacWest Pitcher of the Week

March 3 – NDNU pitcher Tara Van Meter was chosen as the Pacific West Conference Pitcher of the Week for the week of February 25-March 2.  The senior hurler saw action on the mound three times this week, earning Pitcher of the Week honors for the second time this season.

Van Meter posted a 1-1 mark with a 1.50 ERA after allowing just three earned runs in 14 innings of work.  She also got it done at the plate, batting .500 for the week with seven hits in 14 at-bats.  Van Meter finished with three doubles, a homerun, five RBIs and two runs scored.

In Thursday’s doubleheader against Vanguard, Van Meter was the tough luck loser, allowing five unearned runs in a 6-2 loss.  She did however pick up two hits in each game, including a homerun in the first game.

On Sunday, Van Meter helped the Argos to a sweep of Humboldt with 4.1 scoreless innings of relief in game one.  She appeared again in the second game and hurled a scoreless sixth to preserve a one run NDNU lead.  Van Meter also delivered the games biggest hit with a two-out, two-run double in the bottom of the fourth to give the Argos a 7-6 lead.

Senior Danielle Holt also garnered honors last week, being named to the Weekly Honor Roll.  Holt finished the week batting .462 with a homerun, three RBIs, three runs scored and a .692 slugging percentage.  She picked up six hits in 13 at-bats, including four hits in Sunday’s doubleheader.

The Argos are back in action Thursday afternoon for a doubleheader with San Francisco State.

 

Argos Come From Behind Twice, Sweep Humboldt State

March 2 – Despite falling behind big in both games, the Notre Dame de Namur softball team refused to quit and pulled off a sweep of Humboldt State.  The Argos trailed by three in the first game before rallying to win 6-3 and overcame a six run deficit in game two to win 7-6.

In the first game, NDNU fell behind early with the Jacks putting up three runs in the first three innings.  Nikki Ketteringham drove in one with a RBI double in the first while Natalie Galletly added two more with a homerun in the third. 

Humboldt pitcher Jenna Anderson cruised through the three innings without surrendering a hit, but the Argos got to her in the fourth.  Lindsay Crist and Tara Van Meter led off the inning with back-to-back singles before Danielle Holt took the first pitch she saw over the fence and tied the game with a three-run homerun.

The Argos took the lead in the bottom of the fifth with back-to-back doubles by Tara-lyn Odo and Tanya Huson.  They would go on to add one more on a wild pitch and another in the sixth on a two-out double by Huson to give NDNU the 6-3 victory.

Van Meter earned the win for NDNU with 4.1 scoreless innings in relief of Cierra Keeney.  Van Meter pitched her way out of two bases loaded jams without surrendering a run.

The first four Argonaut hitters combined for six hits, five RBIs and four runs with Huson and Van Meter picking up two hits apiece.  Holt finished with three RBIs while Crist scored twice.  BOX SCORE

The Jacks once again jumped out early in the second game, scoring two in the first and three in the third to take an 5-0 lead.  Humboldt collected four hits in the first to score a pair off starter Laurel Carstensen.  In the third, Galletly led off with a solo homerun before Chrissy Motzny drove in two more with a double.  The Jacks would score another in the fourth to go up 6-0. 

Down by six in the bottom of the fourth the Argo bats got going, sending 11 batters to the plate.  With one down, Holt singled and Keeney followed with a two-run to left to put NDNU on the board.  After an error extended the inning, the Argos scored five two-out runs to take a 7-6 lead.  Huson’s bases loaded single drove home a pair and Crist drove in another to pull NDNU within one.  Van Meter would then give the Argos the lead with a two run double off the leftfield wall.

Keeney earned the victory for NDNU, striking out five in three innings of one run ball.  She fanned three in the fifth before coming back in the seventh to close out the game.  Van Meter hurled a scoreless sixth to keep the Argos ahead. 

Eight different Argos collected at least one hit with Holt leading the way with three.  Crist and Cassie Moser had two hits apiece while Huson, Van Meter and Keeney each drove in a pair.  BOX SCORE

The Argos moved to 8-9 on the season and are back in action on Thursday when they travel to San Francisco State for a doubleheader.

 

Argos Drop Doubleheader to Vanguard

February 28 - The Notre Dame de Namur softball team fell twice at the hands of Vanguard in Thursday’s non-conference doubleheader.  The Argos struggled in the field and could not get the bats going in a 6-2 loss in game one.  In the second game, NDNU fought back several times but two seventh inning runs gave Vanguard a 6-4 victory.

The Argos committed four errors in the first game which led to four unearned runs.  Tara Van Meter was the tough luck loser for NDNU, hurling six innings and giving up just one earned run.  She also struck out six and carried the offense with a homerun, double and two RBIs.  Jennifer Olvera picked up the victory for Vanguard, allowing just two runs – one earned – in seven innings.  Olvera struck out ten and also picked up a hit and RBI at the plate.  BOX SCORE

In the second game, Vanguard jumped out to a 3-0 lead through the top of the fourth.  The Argos rebounded with a pair of runs in the bottom of the inning after two errors by Vanguard.  NDNU would tie the score in the bottom of the fifth on a double by Van Meter.  After the visitors pushed a run across in the fifth, Cassie Moser doubled in Bry Norris to once again tie the game.  However, Vanguard plated two in the top of the seventh to earn the victory.

Laurel Carstensen received the loss for NDNU after allowing six runs in seven innings of work.  Bethany Dumpster hurled 1.2 innings of scoreless relief for Vanguard to pick up the victory.  BOX SCORE

The Argos are back in action Sunday at noon when they square off with Humboldt State for another non-conference doubleheader.

 

Seventh Run Rally Leads Argos to Split with Biola

February 19 – The Notre Dame de Namur softball team overcame a late 3-0 deficit in the second game to prevail 4-3 and split with Biola.

In the first game, Biola came out victorious, toppling the Argos 2-1 in nine innings.  Both teams were held scoreless for seven innings as pitchers, Tara Van Meter and Emily Gray surrendered just three hits each.  With runners being place on second to start the eighth, both Biola and NDNU scored to send the game to the ninth tied at 1-1.  Biola plated one run in the top half of the ninth on a RBI single by Erin DaSilva to take a 2-1 lead.  The Argos moved their runner to third in the bottom of the inning, but Gray retired the final two batters to preserve the victory. 

Van Meter was handed the loss for NDNU despite pitching nine innings without allowing an earned run.  Gray was just as impressive for Biola, surrendering just four hits and an unearned run while striking out seven. 

Tanya Huson picked up a pair of hits for NDNU and drove in the teams only run with a two-out game tying single in the bottom of the eighth.  DaSilva recorded a pair of hits for Biola and drove in one.  BOX SCORE

The second game also started as a pitcher’s duel with the game moving to fifth still scoreless.  Biola struck in the top of the fifth after putting two runners on with a walk and a single.  After a sacrifice bunt, DaSilva drove in run with a single and Kacie Lynding added another on a squeeze bunt.  The Eagles added another run in the sixth on a sacrifice fly by Kristin Larsen. 

NDNU cut the deficit to one in the bottom of the inning with runs on a Danielle Holt RBI triple and Bry Norris RBI double.  The Argos put two runners on in the seventh with two outs and Lindsey Crist coming to the plate.  After falling behind 0-2, Crist ripped a two-run double into the left field corner to give the Argonauts a 4-3 victory.

Laurel Carstensen went the distance for the Argonauts, picking up the win and allowing just three runs on six hits.  Erica Moyer received the loss for Biola after surrendering four runs – two earned – on eight hits.    

Van Meter and Norris each picked up a pair of hits for NDNU, with Norris driving in one.  Crist drove in two while Holt added the other Argonauts RBI with a triple in the sixth.  DaSilva once again went two for three with an RBI.  BOX SCORE

The Argos are back in action tomorrow afternoon for a doubleheader against San Francisco State at noon.

 

 

Argos Drop Pair at Sonoma

February 6 - After taking second place at the Best of the West Tournament last weekend, the Notre Dame de Namur softball team struggled to keep up their winnings ways.  The Argos dropped a doubleheader to Sonoma State, falling 10-0 in the first game and 5-4 in the second.

In the first game, the Seawolves jumped on the Argos 10-0.  The game remained tight through the first four innings with Sonoma leading 1-0.  However, Sonoma State scored nine runs over the final two innings to put the game out of reach.  BOX SCORE

The second game started the same way with the Seawolves scoring in the first inning to take a 1-0 lead.  The Argos tied the score in the second but fell behind once again when SSU scored three more in the bottom of the fifth.  NDNU rallied in the sixth to tie the score at four with a three-run double by Bryanne Norris.  However, Sonoma retook the lead in the bottom of the six and won 5-4.  BOX SCORE

Tara Van Meter picked up a pair of hits in each game while Norris drove in three of the Argos four runs on the day.  Dani Langit drove in the other run with a RBI single. 

The Argos are back in action next Thursday when they travel to Phoenix for the Lead-Off Classic. 

 

Two Argos Earn All-Tournament Honors

Seniors Tara Van Meter and Danielle Holt were both named to the 2008 Mizuno Best of the West Invitational All-Tournament Team.  The Argos finished the tournament in a tie for second place with a 3-1 record.  

Van Meter batted .615 over the four games while leading the all players in hits and finishing second in RBIs.  She also went 2-0 on the mound with a 2.50 ERA in 14 innings. 

Holt also made an impact at the plate and in the circle, finishing with a .500 average and picking up a victory.

NDNU Splits on Day Two

February 3 – After starting off the season with a pair of wins at the Togo’s Best of the West Tournament, the Notre Dame de Namur softball team split a pair of games on Day Two.  The Argos struggled in the first game, falling to CSU Dominguez Hills 11-2 before rebounding to upset #10 CSU Stanislaus 7-6 in eight innings.

In the first game, the Argos fell behind 3-0 in the third before cutting the lead to one in the bottom of the inning.  CSUDH responded with five runs in the 4th and three more in the 5th to put the game out of reach.

Danielle Holt received the loss for NDNU after allowing four funs in the fourth inning.  Tara Van Meter went 3 for 3 for the Argos at the plate while Holt and Bryanne Norris each drove in a run. BOX SCORE

The second game did not start off well for the Argos as the Warriors led 4-0 after five innings.  However, NDNU stormed back with five in the fifth to take a one run lead.  Six straight Argos reached base in the inning with Van Meter’s two run double doing most of the damage. 

Stanislaus tied the game in the bottom of the seventh to force extra innings but NDNU would not led the game get away.  Kate Elwell and Holt each scored in the top of the eight to give the Argos a two runs cushion.  The Warriors got within one in the bottom of the inning, but Van Meter pitched out of trouble to earn her second win of the tournament. 

Van Meter went the distance for NDNU, allowing five earned runs in eight innings of work and also delivered two hits and two RBIs.  Cierra Keeney, Holt and Milana Jordan also picked up two hits apiece. BOX SCORE

The Argos close out the tournament tomorrow afternoon with games against Humboldt State and Monterey Bay.

 

Argos Open Season with Two Wins

February 2 - The Notre Dame de Namur softball team opened their 2008 season with a pair of wins at the Togo's Best of the West Tournament in Turlock, CA. 

In the first game, the Argos defeated Grand Canyon 3-2 behind six strong innings from Tara Van Meter.  Van Meter allowed just one unearned run and struck out three.  Cierra Keeney closed out the game with a one run seventh to earn the save.

Van Meter and Keeney also caused damage with their bats driving in one run each.  After the Antelopes took a 1-0 lead in the first, Keeney tied to game with a RBI triple in the second.  Van Meter then put the Argos up for good in the third with an RBI double.  BOX SCORE

In the second game, the Argos needed two extra innings to take down Davis & Elkins.  NDNU came out victorious with a 7-5 win in nine innings.  Danielle Holt picked up the victory for the Argonauts after allowing just three runs – one earned – in nine innings of work.  She struck out four and walked two.

Holt got it done at the plate as well, finishing with three hits.  Van Meter once again drove in the game winning run with a solo home run that was part of a three run ninth inning.  Milana Jordan also picked up a pair of hits while Bryanne Norris drove in two.  BOX SCORE

The Argos are back in action tomorrow for two more game before closing out the tournament on Sunday.

 

 

NDNU Names New Head Softball Coach
Former Cal All-American Haley Woods hired to lead softball program

February 12 – The Notre Dame de Namur University athletic department has announced the hiring of Haley Woods as the new softball coach.

Woods, a former All-American softball player at Cal comes to NDNU after coaching Castilleja High School last season.  At Castilleja, Woods led the team to a WBAL Championship.  In addition, she coaches for the San Jose Sting, a Northern California 18 Gold fast pitch program.

As a player, Woods made three appearances in the College World Series, including two in the National Championship game.  She was named a 2006 1st Team All-American as a catcher and was twice named All-Pac 10 and All-Pacific Region.  In 2006, Woods was named Diamond Sports Catcher of the Year, inducted into the Cal Hall of Fame and was invited to try-out for the U.S. National Team.

“I am extremely excited to take on the challenge of coaching at NDNU.  We have high expectations for this season and are very excited to get to work.” Woods said. 

The Argos finished last season with an 18-36 record and return seven starters including three All-Pac West performers.

 

Amy Walter Steps Down as Head Softball Coach

June 5 – The Notre Dame de Namur softball team will be led by a new coach next season after head coach Amy Walter announced she will be stepping down. 

Walter coached the Argos for two years, including this past season, the schools first in Division II.  Over her two years, Walter compiled a 32-57 record and led the Argos to a fifth place finish in the Pacific West in 2007.

NDNU will begin the search for a new head coach in the coming days and have high expectations for next season.  The Argos are expected to return six starters next year, including three All-Pacific West selections. 

 

Four Argos Softball Players Earn All-Conference Recognition

June 4 – In their first season of Division II play, the Notre Dame de Namur softball team had four players receive All-Pacific West honors.  Tara Van Meter and Cierra Keeney were named to the 2nd Team while Amy Paulson and Bria De Lorenzo earned Honorable Mention status.

Van Meter, a junior from Sacramento, made the 2nd Team as an infielder after leading the Argos with a .338 average.  Van Meter also finished second on the team in homeruns with 10 and RBIs with 26.

Keeney, a junior from Tracy split time in the outfield and on the mound this season.  She earned 2nd Team honors as an outfielder after batting .295 with six homeruns and 15 RBIs. 

Paulson, a senior from Coeur d’Alene, ID was named honorable mention as a catcher.  She set the school’s single season record with 11 homeruns and also led the team in RBIs with 30.

De Lorenzo, a junior Gilroy earned honorable mention status as a designated player.  She hit .273 on the year with eight homeruns and 26 RBIs.  De Lorenzo also became the first NDNU player to hit three homeruns in a single game.

The Argos concluded the season with an 18-36 record but finished strong, going 8-7 over their final 15 games. All-Pac West Team

 

Argos Close Out Season with Split

April 29 – The NDNU softball team concluded their first season of Division II play by splitting a doubleheader with CSU Monterey Bay.  The Argos took the first game 4-3, but could not hold off the Otters in the second, falling 10-0.  The Argos finished the year 18-34 overall, but 8-7 over their final 15 games. 

In the first game, Cierra Keeney won her fourth straight game as the Argos held on for a 4-3 victory.  The Otters got the scoring started in the second inning with a RBI single by Jessie Boyle.  The Argos quickly evened the score in the bottom of the second on Lindsay Crist’s single up the middle.  The game remained tied until the bottom of the fourth when Bria De Lorenzo and Keeney blasted back-to-back homeruns to give NDNU a 3-1 lead.  Monterey got one back in the six on a sacrifice fly to close within one, but Tanya Huson’s solo homerun in the bottom of the inning made it 4-2.  The Otters got one more in the top of the seventh, but Keeney pitched out of a jam to hold onto the victory.  She improved to 8-10 on the season, allowing just three runs in her 15th complete game of the year.  Keeney ended the season strong, going 4-0 with a 1.93 ERA and two one-hitters in her last four starts. Jessie Boyle surrendered just four hits, three of which were homeruns for Monterey Bay while suffering the loss.  BOX SCORE

Monterey took control of the second game early on, scoring a pair of runs in both the first and second innings.  One of the Otter runs in the second came on a solo homerun by Jessie Boyle.  Monterey added two more in the fourth and four in the sixth to push the lead to 10-0.  Ashlee Trotter belted a three-run homerun in the sixth to account for most of the damage.  Jennifer Zev, making her first start of the season received the loss while Ramona Garcia earned the victory for the Otters.  Garcia allowed just one hit in six scoreless innings and struck out three.   Jess Wardle led the Monterey offense which racked up 17 hits, going 4-4 with three stolen bases.  BOX SCORE

 

Keeney Near Perfect as Argos Split with Grand Canyon

April 28 - Cierra Keeney retired the first 19 batters she faced in the first game of the Argos final Pac West doubleheader of the season.  Keeney cruised through the first six innings without allowing a single Grand Canyon batter to reach base.  With one out in the seventh, Emily Ritter broke up the perfect game bid with a single up the middle.  However, Keeney got the next batter to ground into a double play and give the Argos a 2-0 win.  The Argonauts got the first run on a bases loaded walk by Bria De Lorenzo in the first and added an insurance run in the fourth with a homerun by Anna Garza.  Keeney improved to 7-10 on the season with her fourth complete game shutout of the season and second one hitter.  She did not walk a batter and struck out five.  Megan Niver took the loss for the Antelopes despite allowing just six hits and one earned run.  BOX SCORE

Grand Canyon’s bats came alive in the second game, downing NDNU 7-2.  The Antelope’s jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first on a RBI single by Malia Simmons.  The Argos battled back in the second, taking a one run lead after Lindsay Crist’s two run homerun.  The NDNU lead would not last long as the visitors scored two in the third and four in the fifth.  The four runs in the fifth came off a pair of two-run homeruns by Simmons and Jamie Stacy.  Simmons went 4-4 with three RBIs at the plate while improving to 11-7 with a complete game victory.  Laurel Carstensen dropped to 1-7 on the season after allowing three runs in two and one-third innings of work.  Danielle Holt and Jennifer Zev finished the game in the circle for the Argos.  BOX SCORE

The Argos moved to 17-35 on the season and finished their first year in the Pac West with a 4-16 conference record.  NDNU closes out the 2007 season tomorrow afternoon with a pair of games against CSU Monterey Bay starting at 1:00 pm. 

 

Extra Innings Win Earns Argos a Split with San Francisco State

April 18 – The Notre Dame de Namur softball team bounced back from a tough 9-1 loss in the first game to down San Francisco State 6-5 in eight innings of game two.  The Argos moved their record to 16-34 with just four games left on the season.

In the first game, San Francisco State jumped out to a big lead early in the contest and cruised to a 9-1 victory.  Jordanna Freemer gave the Gators a 2-0 lead in the first on a homerun to centerfield.  SF State would tack on another run in the first before plating four more in the second.  The Argos got on the board in the fifth on a sacrifice fly by Lindsay Crist to cut the deficit to 7-1.  In the top of the sixth, Freemer put the game out of reach with her second two-run homerun of the game.  Danielle Holt received the loss for the Argos, lasting just 1.1 innings and surrendering seven runs.  Laurel Carstensen came on in relief and allowed two runs in 4.2 innings.  Kristine Beristianos picked up the win for the Gators with six innings on one run ball.  BOX SCORE

The Argo bats came alive in the second game, scoring four runs and forcing the SF State starter out of the game.  Tara Van Meter drove in the first run on a two-out single up the middle.  Next batter, Bria De Lorenzo belted her seventh homerun of the season to give the Argos a 3-0 lead.  Cierra Keeney followed with a solo homerun to cap off the scoring in the first.  The Gators responded with a three-run homerun by Jordanna Freemer in the third to pull within one run.  They would tie the game two innings later on a two-out RBI single by Allison Shirley.  In the bottom of the inning, the Argos took the lead back on a De Lorenzo RBI single but it not last long as Shirley’s sacrifice fly in the seventh tied the game at 5-5.  The game moved into the eighth as NDNU scored the final run on a RBI single by Tanya Huson to win 6-5.  De Lorenzo picked up three hits and three RBIs for the Argos in the win while pitcher Cierra Keeney improved to 6-10 on the season.  BOX SCORE

 

Argos Sweep Dominican in Doubleheader

April 15 – The NDNU softball team used a pair of excellent pitching performances and several homeruns to take a pair of games from Dominican University.  The Argos belted five homeruns and did not allow a run in either game improved to 15-33 on the season. 

In the first game, Cierra Keeney led the Argos both in the circle and at the plate to a 5-0 victory.  Keeney hurled a complete game one hitter, surrendering just a fourth inning single while improving to 5-10 on the season.  She struck out four batters and walked three.  At the plate, Keeney busted open a scoreless game in the bottom of the third with a three-run homerun to left.  The next batter, Lindsay Crist, followed with a solo homerun to give the Argos a 4-0 lead after three.  Anna Garza tacked on a solo shot in the sixth to make the score 5-0 while Keeney retired the final seven batter she faced to end the game. NDNU’s stellar pitching continued in the second game with Laurel Carstensen tossing a complete game shutout of her own.  She allowed seven hits while striking out three and picking up her first win of the season.  Tara Van Meter provided the offense in the first, belting her tenth homerun of the season to give the Argos a 2-0 lead.  In the second inning, Lindsay Crist connected on her second homerun of the day to push the Argo lead to three.  NDNU would tack on another run in the fifth to end the scoring.  Seven Argos had at least one hit with Tara Van Meter delivering three in four at-bats. Argos Drop a Pair of One Run Games

April 4 – The NDNU softball team suffered a pair of tough road losses, dropping two one-run games to San Francisco State.  The Argos took early leads in both contests before Gator comebacks pushed SF State ahead late in the games.  The Argos lost 3-2 in eight innings in the opener before falling 4-3 in the nightcap.

In the first game, NDNU took a 1-0 in the third inning on a RBI double by Tanya Huson.  The Argos increased their lead to 2-0 in the fourth on a RBI fielder’s choice by Nicole Giuliani.  The Gators tied the game in the bottom of the sixth on a two-out two-run double by Nicole Cirimele off of Cierra Keeney.  With the score tied at 2-2 in the eighth, SF State got a lead-off double by Allison Shirley before Elissa Reizman drove her home to end the game.  Vanessa Truan picked up the win for the Gators, allowing just two runs in eight innings.  Cierra Kenny recorded the loss for the Argos while going 3 for 3 at the plate. Tara Van Meter put the Argonauts on the board first in game two, blasting a two-run home run in the fourth. The Gators came back with a run of their own in the bottom half of the innings on a homerun by Cirimele.  Amy Paulsen’s RBI single in the fifth gave NDNU a 3-1 lead before the Gators responded with two runs in the bottom half of the inning to tie the game.  Cirimele then put SF State ahead for good in the sixth with her second homerun of the game, giving the Gators a 4-3 victory.  Truan picked up her second win of the day with 2.1 innings of scoreless relief while Danielle Holt received the loss for NDNU.  The Argos return home on Wednesday, April 11th for a pair of games against Sonoma State starting at 1:00 pm. Argos Finish 3-3 at Tournament of Champions

April 1 – The NDNU softball team won three of six games at the Tournament of Champions held in Turlock, California.  The Argos went 3-2 in round robin play before getting knocked out by CSU Bakersfield in their first game in the Silver Bracket.

On Friday the Argos split a pair of games, dropping their tournament opener to Hawaii-Hilo before defeating Saint Martin’s.  In the first game, Hilo scored three runs in the top of the first on their way to a 6-2 victory.  NDNU bounced back in the second game, beating SMU 6-0 behind a five hit shutout by Cierra Keeney and a homerun from Amy Paulson.

The Argos opened Saturday with a tough 4-3 loss at the hands of Seattle University.  NDNU stuck first, scoring in the top of the first but Seattle’s four run second proved to be enough.  In the second game of the day the Argo bats came alive, crushing Chaminade 13-5.  Tara Van Meter belted a pair of homeruns and drove in a career high six runs.  NDNU continued their fine play in the final game on Saturday, shutting out Western Oregon 5-0.  Keeney hurled her second complete game shutout of the tournament, surrendering only three hits.  Paulson delivered three hits including a homerun and drove in three. On Sunday, the Argos were bounced out of the single elimination bracket after a 8-0 loss to CSU Bakersfield. 

Tara Van Meter and Amy Paulson led the Argos offensive attack combining for 19 hits and 13 RBIs in the six games.  Van Meter finished the TOC with a .579 batting average, two homeruns and six RBIs.  Paulson batted .400 while hitting three homeruns and driving in five.  Cierra Kenny went 2-1 on the mound, hurling two complete game shutouts and finishing with a 1.50 ERA for the tournament.  The Argos are back in action on Wednesday as they travel to San Francisco State for a pair of games.

De Lorenzo Powers NDNU to Split with BYU Hawaii

March 26 – The Notre Dame de Namur softball picked up a split with BYU Hawaii thanks to Bria De Lorenzo’s four homeruns in Monday’s doubleheader.  De Lorenzo belted her first homerun of the day in the sixth inning of the first game, before setting a school record with three homeruns and seven RBIs in the second game.  Her final homerun, a grand slam in the sixth inning of game two busted the game wide open.

The Argos struggled to find their bats early in the first game, falling behind 7-0.  BYU Hawaii used homeruns in Jana Dewey and Holly Bjork in the third to build their lead while pitcher Crystal De La Cruz held the Argos scoreless through five innings.  NDNU closed the gap in the sixth with De Lorenzo’s first homeruns of the day but could not get any closer, falling 8-3. 

The second game started out the same with the Seasiders scoring five unanswered runs in the first three innings.  However, the Argos responded, scoring the games final 13 runs including nine in the bottom of the sixth to end the game.  Trailing 5-1 in the fifth, Amy Paulson drove in a run with a triple before being brought home by De Lorenzo’s second homer of the game.  In the sixth, the Argos tied the game with a bases loaded walk to Huson, and took the lead with a two-run single by Paulson.  After Tara Van Meter walked to reload the bases, De Lorenzo blasted a grand slam over the left field fence to give NDNU a 11-5 lead.  Anna Garza capped of the inning with a two-run homerun to give the Argos a 13-5 victory.  Danielle Holt picked up her fifth win of the season, surrendering only two earned runs in six innings of work.  The Argos and Seasiders square off again tomorrow morning at 10:00 am for another doubleheader.  GAME 1 BOX SCORE   GAME 2 BOX SCORE

 

Sonoma Sweeps Past Argos

March 14 - The Notre Dame de Namur softball team fell twice at the hands of Sonoma State in Monday's non-conference doubleheader.  The Argos could not get the bats going, managing just four hits in the two games.  Sonoma State took the first game 7-0 on a combined two hit shutout by Lindsay Emmel and Brittany Williams.  The second game was much of the same as Simone Brandalise and Williams hurled another shutout on the way to a 5-0 victory.  Lindsay Crist picked up two hits on the day for the Argos while Tara Van Meter and Milana Jordan delivered one each.  The Argos are away again on Saturday when they face CSU East Bay for a pair of games starting at noon.  GAME 1 BOX SCORE   GAME 2 BOX SCORE


Argos Struggle on Hawaii Trip

March 10 - The NDNU softball team struggled on their ten game Hawaii road trip over the past week, going 2-10.  The Argos played four game apiece against Pac West foes Chaminade, Hawaii Pacific and Hawaii-Hilo.  The trip got off to a good start as NDNU took two of the first three against Chaminade, including a 6-1 victory in  the first game.  However, NDNU dropped their final game against the Swords and four each to HPU and Hawaii-Hilo.

Amy Paulson and Tara Van Meter led the Argos offense, combining for 21 hits, four homeruns and 12 RBIs.  Paulson had two homeruns, seven hits and six RBIs in the first four games of the trip while Van Meter hit .484 with two homers and four RBIs over the final eight. RESULTS AND BOX SCORES

 

Humboldt Sweeps Argos in Doubleheader

February 19 - The NDNU softball team suffered a pair of defeats in their first home games of the season against Humboldt State.  The Jacks took the first game 6-2 before beating the Argos 11-2 in five innings in the second game.

The Argos found themselves down early in the first game as HSU went up 1-0 on a wild pitch by Laurel Carstensen.  The game stayed 1-0 until the bottom of the fourth when NDNU tied the game on a Bria De Lorenzo double.  The Jacks would then score three runs on four hits in the top of the fifth to take the lead for good.  They would add two more in the seventh to push the score to 6-1.   Humboldt pitcher Lizzy Prescott picked up the win, allowing just one run and striking out 13.  Carstensen surrendered five earned runs in a complete game loss for the Argos.  Nancy Harbeson delivered three hits and three RBIs for Humboldt.  BOX SCORE

Humboldt picked up where they left off at the beginning of the second game, scoring 11 runs in the first three innings.  NDNU pitcher Danielle Holt received the loss, surrendering all 11 runs (ten earned) in 2.1 innings.  Cierra Keeney came on in relief to throw 2.2 scoreless frames.  The Jacks scored four runs in the first on four hits and followed that up with five more runs in the second.  They would add two more in the third before Amy Paulson put the Argos on the board with a two-run homerun in the bottom of the inning.  Tracy Motzny pitched three innings for Humboldt to pick up the win.  BOX SCORE

 

Humboldt Cancels Softball Tournament

February 9 - The 2007 Best Western Humboldt Bay Inn Tournament has been cancelled due to the expectation of rain on Saturday and Sunday.  The tournament was to feature NDNU taking on Humboldt and Western Oregon The games will not be rescheduled.  The Argos are off to Phoenix next week to play in the Lead-Off Classic Tournament hosted by Grand Canyon from February 15-17.

Argos Earn Third Split at Best of the West Tournament

February 4 - The Notre Dame de Namur softball team picked up their third straight split at the Togo's Best of the West Tournament in Turlock, CA.  The Argos dropped their first game of the day to Sonoma State 3-1, but rebounded with an upset over #22 Seattle University 4-2.

The Argos could not get anything going off Sonoma State pitcher Brittany Williams who allowed only one run in six innings.  The Argos lone run came on a solo homerun by Tara Van Meter which tied the game at 1-1 in the top of the second inning.  NDNU pitcher Laurel Carstensen held the Seawolves to just the one run until the bottom of the sixth when they would plate the games final two runs to win 3-1.  Carstensen hurled five innings, allowing just two earned runs but received her first loss of the season. In the second game, NDNU pulled off the upset of nationally ranked Seattle University with a 4-2 victory.  Seattle struck first, taking a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the third.  However, the Argos responded with four runs in the fifth to take and lead and never look back.  Tara Van Meter picked up her second win of the season, allowing just two runs in seven innings.  Van Meter also led the Argos at the plate, picking up a double and a triple and driving in a run.  Kate Elwell went 3-3 for the game while Milana Jordan and Bria De Lorenzo each drove in a run. BOX SCORE


NDNU Splits Again on Day Two

February 3 - The NDNU softball team once again split a pair of games on day two of the Togo's Best of the West Tournament.  Much like the first day the Argo bats could not get going in the first game, falling to CSU Dominguez Hills 6-0.  NDNU would fair much better in game two, defeating UC San Diego 9-6.

In the first game the Toros' starting pitcher Jennifer Martinez kept the Argos silent at the plate, tossing a four hit complete game shutout.  Martinez did not walk a batter and struck out eight.  Friday's winning pitcher Tara Van Meter hurled her second complete game of the season, but allowed five earned runs.  Jennifer Frazier collected three hits for Dominguez Hills and drove in a pair of runs.  BOX SCORE

The Argos regrouped in the second game to take down UC San Diego with a nine run outburst.  NDNU jumped out early, plating three runs in the bottom of the first inning.  However, UCSD would not go away, taking the lead in the fourth on a three run homerun by Nikki Palmer.  The Argos scored two in the bottom of the inning to go up 5-4, but the lead would not last as the Tritons brought home two of their own in the fifth.  NDNU would put the game out of reach in the bottom half of the fifth, pushing across four runs to go ahead 9-6.  Danielle Holt picked up the victory with five strong innings while Cierra Keeney recorded the save with a pair of scoreless frames.  Amy Paulson led the Argos offense with a pair of hits, three runs and a RBI.  Bria De Lorenzo also drove in a pair of runs for the Argos.  BOX SCORE
