Argos Sweep Dominican
April 26 – The Notre Dame de Namur softball team pulled off their second sweep of Dominican this season with a pair of wins of the road. The Argos took the first game 6-5 in extra innings before downing the Penguins 3-1 in game two.
In the first game, Tara Van Meter came on in relief to throw the final 7.1 innings and earn the victory. Starter Laurel Carstensen allowed three runs in the first before Van Meter allowed just two runs – one earned – for the rest of the game. Danielle Holt led the Argonaut comeback with three hits and three RBIs while Tara-lyn Odo drove in a pair of runs. BOX SCORE
Cierra Keeney shutdown the Penguins in the second game to lead NDNU to a 3-1 victory. Keeney surrendered just one run in six innings of relief as the Argos jumped out a three run lead and never looked back. Argos Drop a Pair on Senior Day
April 19 – The Notre Dame de Namur softball team closed out their 2008 home schedule with a pair of high scoring defeats to Grand Canyon. The Argos fell 13-5 in game one before dropping the second game 9-7.
NDNU struggled in the field in the first game, committing five errors that led to ten unearned runs. Danielle Holt led the Argos offense with two hits, a homerun, three RBIs and a stolen base. Tara Van Meter, Tara-Lyn Odo and Bryanne Norris each added a pair of hits. BOX SCORE
In the second game, the Argos surrendered an early four run lead after Yasmeen Watkins’s grand slam put the ‘Lopes up for good. Bria DeLorenzo went deep twice for NDNU, finishing with three hits and four RBIs. Norris also tacked on a solo homerun and a double. BOX SCORE
The Argos are back in action on Tuesday against Humboldt State.
Argos, Seawolves Split Twinbill
April 14 – The Notre Dame de Namur softball team earned a split with Sonoma State in Monday’s non-conference doubleheader. The Argos surrendered an early lead in game one to fall 7-3 before erasing a three run deficit in the second game to win 7-3.
In the first game, the Argos could not hold onto a three run lead as Sonoma State scored six runs in the seventh inning to win 7-3. NDNU got on the board in the second inning with a pair of runs before adding another in the third. Cierra Keeney drove in one run while Danielle Holt’s walk in the third gave the Argos a 3-0 lead.
The Seawolves finally got to Laurel Carstensen in the fifth, pushing one run across on a RBI double by Dani Lopez. Carstensen cruised through the sixth and got two outs in the seventh before the Sonoma State comeback turned the tides. The Seawolves collected four straight hits with Kayla Ledford’s single knocking in a pair and tying the game. After a walk loaded the bases, Nikki Freiberg belted a grand slam to put SSU up for good.
Brittany Williams rebounded from a slow start to hold the Argos scoreless through the final four frames. Cartsensen received the loss after allowing six runs in 6.2 innings. Five different Argonauts collected hits with Keeney and Holt picking up an RBI each. BOX SCORE
The second game went Sonoma’s way early as the visitors plated a run in the second on a RBI single by Britni Geary. Nicole Cordova delivered a two-run homerun in the third to push the lead to 3-0 and drive starter Cierra Keeney out of the game.
Tara Van Meter cut the Seawolves lead to one with one swing of the bat in the third. Van Meter blasted Sonoma State starter Kayla Ledford full count pitch over the centerfield wall for a two-run homerun. Cassie Moser put the Argos up 4-3 in the fourth with a two-run homerun of her own. NDNU would add another in the inning before scoring two more in the sixth to take a 7-3 advantage.
Van Meter earned the victory with 4.2 innings of scoreless pitching while picking up a homerun and four RBIs at the plate. Tanya Huson finished with three hits while Danielle Gray and Bria DeLorenzo each picked up a pair. BOX SCORE
The Argos are back in action Friday with a PacWest doubleheader against Grand Canyon at noon.
Argos Drop Three of Four at Dixie State
April 12 – The Notre Dame de Namur softball team struggled in Utah, dropping three of their four games against Dixie State. On Friday, the Argos surrendered a big lead in game one to lose 5-4, before falling 7-1 in game two. Saturday started much of the same with the Rebels taking the first game 10-1. NDNU responded in the second game with a 6-2 victory.
In the first game on Friday, the Argos took a 4-1 lead after homeruns by Tanya Huson and Cierra Keeney. The Rebels rallied back to tie the game in the seventh before Brittany Fowler and Christina Dixon collected back-to-back hits in the eight to give Dixie a 5-4 victory. Tara Van Meter recorded two hits and two RBIs while pitching 5.2 innings and surrendering just three runs. BOX SCORE
Game two was all Rebels as they broke the game open in the fifth and sixth with six combined runs. Tara-lyn Odo collected two hits for the Argos while Bryanne Norris drove in the only run in a 7-1 defeat. Keeney suffered the loss after allowing five earned runs in a complete game while Jessie Dunn held NDNU to just one run in 6.2 innings. BOX SCORE
Saturday’s first game did not start well for the Argos as Dixie State scored in six of the seven innings, including a four run fourth. Norris delivered two of the Argos six hits while driving in the lone run. Haley Schumers earned the victory for DSC after allowing just one run in five innings of work while Fowler drove in three runs on three hits. BOX SCORE
The Argos rebounded in the final game of the series as Keeney hurled a complete game to improve to 8-7 on the season. Keeney surrendered just four hits and two runs while striking out a pair. NDNU took control in the first two innings, plating three runs in each and cruising to a 6-2 victory. Lindsay Crist drove in three with a homerun in the second inning and Danielle Holt collected three hits. BOX SCORE
NDNU dropped to 18-25 on the season and moved to 8-12 in Pacific West play. They return home this week to take on Sonoma State and Grand Canyon.
Argos Blast Dominican
March 29 – The Notre Dame de Namur softball team brought out their bats in a pair of five inning victories over Dominican University. The Argos used back-to-back-to-back homeruns in game one to win 8-0 before scoring in every inning of game two to win 10-0.
In game one, the Argos scored a run in both the second and third inning before busting the game open in the fourth. Tara-lyn Odo, Dani Langit and Tanya Huson started the fourth off with consecutive singles to load bases. Lindsay Crist stepped in and took the Deena Westrope offering over the leftfield fence for a grand slam. Tara Van Meter and Bria DeLorenzo followed with long balls to give NDNU back-to-back-to-back homeruns.
Van Meter also shined on the mound, earning the victory after allowing just three hits in five shutout innings. Danielle Holt, Odo, Huson and Crist recorded two hits apiece to lead the NDNU offense. BOX SCORE
The second game was much of the same as the Argos earned another big victory. NDNU scored two runs in first and second innings before adding four more in the third and two in the fourth. DeLorenzo drove in both first inning runs with a bases loaded single while Crist brought in two with a triple in the second. After RBIs from Danielle Gray and Odo, Huson ripped a two-run double to give NDNU an 8-0 advantage. Cassie Moser capped off the scoring with a two-run double in the fourth.
Laurel Carstensen picked up the win for the Argos with five innings of two-hit ball. She struck out six and walked three. DeLorenzo went 3 for 3 to lead NDNU while Huson, Crist and Odo registered two hits each. DeLorenzo, Huson, Crist and Moser also drove in two runs apiece. BOX SCORE
The Argos are back in action next Saturday when they hit the road to take on Chico State.
HPU Earns Second Straight Sweep of NDNU
March 26, 2008 – For the second straight day, the Notre Dame de Namur softball team was swept at the hands of first place Hawaii Pacific. The Argos fought hard in a 4-0 loss in game one before falling 10-1 in game two.
Courtney Kessell kept the Argo bats silent in the first game, allowing just two hits and striking out eight. The Seasiders produced just four hits on the game, but made the most of them, scoring four runs. They plated two in the second despite picking up just one hit and added another in both the fifth and sixth innings.
Tara Van Meter suffered the loss for NDNU after allowing three runs – one earned – on four plus innings of work. Van Meter gave up three hits, walked five and struck out six. Laurel Carstensen came on in relief to hurl two innings of one run ball.
Cierra Keeney and Tara-lyn Odo collected the Argonaut hits while four different Seasiders recorded one hit apiece. BOX SCORE
The Argos got on the board first in game two, scoring a run in the top of the first. After a Lindsay Crist double, Bria DeLorenzo drove her in with a single to give NDNU their first lead of the series. However, it did not last long as Nicole Kalakau belted a two-run homerun off Keeney to give HPU a 2-1 advantage.
HPU blew the game open in the second, scoring five times and taking a 7-1 lead. Laine Shikuma drove home one with a double before Kalakau and Jessica Adolph plated two more with hits of their own. The Seasiders would go on to add another in the third and two more in the fourth to take the game 10-1.
Sherise Musquiz earned the win for HPU with five innings of one run ball while Keeney suffered the loss. DeLorenzo delivered two of the Argos three hits and added an RBI. Adolph and Skikuma collected three hits and two RBIs apiece for the Seasiders with Kalakau adding two hits and four RBIs. BOX SCORE
The Argos moved to 7-9 in PacWest games and are back in action Saturday at noon for a non-conference twinbill with Dominican University.
Argos Swept by First Place HPU
March 25 – The Notre Dame de Namur softball team fell to 7-7 in PacWest play with a pair of losses to first place Hawaii Pacific. The Argos fell 9-1 in the first game before dropping game two 8-0.
The first game started out close, with each team scoring one in run in the second inning. The Seasiders plated one on a RBI single by Nicole Rivera before the Argos tied the score on Cierra Keeney’s two-out RBI single. HPU was back at it in third, taking a 3-1 lead after Krystal Plunkett drove in one with a single and Tajia Acierto added another with a sacrifice fly.
The most important play of the game came in the bottom of the when Lindsay Crist nearly gave the Argonauts a lead. With two runners on, Crist belted a pitch to straight away centerfield but was robbed of a homerun by Acierto. Acierto made the catch while crashing into the fence before getting up to catch Tara-lyn Odo trying to score at the plate.
The Seasider bats picked up again in the fifth, scoring four two-out runs on five hits. The sixth was much of the same as HPU used four hits to plate two more and end the game 9-1.
Laurel Carstensen surrendered three runs in three innings before Tara Van Meter came on in relief to allow six runs. Courtney Kessell earned the victory for HPU with five innings of one run ball. Plunkett and Nicole Riviera led the Seasiders with four hits apiece as the team racked up 16 hits for the game. Riviera also added four RBIs while Acierto and Ciera Senas drove in two apiece. In the second game, HPU picked up where they left off, scoring a run in both the first and third innings. With the Argo bats silenced by Sherise Musquiz, the Seasiders once again got to Keeney in the fourth with two runs on five consecutive singles. HPU added another in the fifth and three more in the seventh to extend their advantage to 8-0.
Keeney registered the loss for NDNU, allowing eight runs – five earned – in seven innings of work. Musquiz kept the Argos off balance all game long, earning the win with six shutout innings. Five Seasiders finished with two hits in the game. Van Meter recorded two hits for the Argos with Danielle Holt collecting a double. BOX SCORE

Argos and Seasiders Split Again
March 22 – For the fourth consecutive PacWest doubleheader, the Notre Dame de Namur softball team dropped the opening game before rebounding to take game two. The Argonauts split two games with BYU Hawaii, falling in game one 6-5 in eight innings and winning the second game 6-4.
The first game started out perfectly for NDNU as Tanya Huson led off the game with a homerun. Lindsay Crist followed with a single before moving to third on Tara Van Meter’s double. Crist would later score on a sacrifice fly before Bryanne Norris drove in the third run of the inning with a single. Bettye Doering got one run back for the Seasiders with a RBI single in the bottom of the inning.
The Argos plated another in the second on Van Meter’s sacrifice fly before BYU replace Doering with Crystal De La Cruz. De La Cruz got the final two outs of the inning and went on to retire the first 14 batters she faced. With the NDNU offense stagnant, the Seasiders rallied to tie the score in the fifth. After putting two runners on, Van Meter surrended a three-run homerun to Doering which tied the game a 4-4.
Huson came up big in the seventh, putting the Argos back on top with a RBI double to left. However, BYUH knotted the score once again as Athena Salinas drew a bases loaded walk to send the game to extra innings. In the eight, the Argos went down quietly before De La Cruz gave herself the victory with a walk-off RBI single.
Van Meter received the loss for NDNU after surrendering six runs – three earned – in 7.1 innings. De La Cruz earned the win for the Seasiders with 6.2 innings of one run ball. Huson and Crist eached picked up a pair of hits for the Argos with Huson also driving in a pair. Doering was the run producer for BYUH, driving in four on a pair of hits. BOX SCORE
NDNU once again got on the board first in game two, plating two runs in the opening frame. Crist belted a solo homerun before Norris drove in another with a single to leftfield. Kahea Bethan cut the Seasiders deficit to in half with a solo homerun of her own in the bottom of the second.
The Argos tacked on three more in the third and one in the seventh to take a 6-1 advantage. Keeney helped her own cause with a RBI single in the third inning and Milana Jordan drove in another on a squeeze play. In the seventh, NDNU scored on an error by the Seasider’s catcher that allowed Holt to score.
After surrendering the second inning homerun, NDNU pitcher Cierra Keeney rebounded with four scoreless innings. BYU Hawaii rallied in the seventh to score three runs, but would not get any closer. She went the distance to improve to 7-2 on the season and moved to 5-1 in PacWest starts.
Keeney also came up big at the plate with three hits, a RBI and a stolen base. Crist and Norris also recorded multiple hits and a RBI. BOX SCORE
The Argos moved to 7-5 in conference play with the Seasiders falling to 4-8. PacWest continues next Tuesday and Wednesday when the Argos square off against first place Hawaii Pacific for four games.
Argos, Seasiders Split Twinbill
March 21 – The Notre Dame de Namur softball team improved to 6-4 in Pacific West play with a split in Friday’s doubleheader against BYU Hawaii. The Argos fell 8-7 in game one after their furious seventh inning comeback fell short before rebounding to take game two 8-4.
In the first game, the Argos built an early lead before the Seasiders responded with seven straight runs. NDNU got on the board in the first on a bases loaded walk by Bryanne Norris and added another in the third on Danielle Holt’s RBI single. Pitcher Bettye Doering cut the deficit in half with a solo homerun in the top of the fourth.
The Seasiders got to NDNU starter Cierra Keeney in the fifth with six runs to take a 7-2 lead. The visitors collected six hits in the inning, five of which were doubles, including back-to-back two-out two-run doubles Kahea Bethan and Kim Artiaga. Tanya Huson got one run back for the Argos with a leadoff homerun in the fifth but BYUH scored again in the top of the sixth to take an 8-3 lead.
Despite being down five runs in the seventh, NDNU refused to quit with three straight hits to leadoff the inning. After Lindsay Crist drove in a run, Tara Van Meter plated another with a sacrifice fly. Relief pitcher Crystal De La Cruz retired two batters before Norris brought the Argos within one with a two-out two-run double. However, De La Cruz retired Cassie Moser to end the game and preserve the 8-7 victory.
Keeney’s streak of four straight victories came to an end after surrendering seven runs – six earned – in five innings. Doering earned the win for the Seasiders with six plus innings of work. Huson, Van Meter and Holt each picked a pair of hits for NDNU while Norris drove in three runs. The Seasiders got hits from eight of their nine starters including five with two hits. BOX SCORE
NDNU carried their hot bats over to the second game despite falling behind in the first. The Seasiders scored a pair in the first on a two-out single by Artiaga before Crist and Norris each belted a two-run homerun in the bottom of the inning.
The Argos added another in the second on a sacrifice fly by Crist. Norris struck again in the third with a two-run double and later scored on Keeney’s sacrifice fly to give NDNU an 8-2 advantage.. BYU chipped away with a run in both the fifth and sixth innings but missed a chance to get more when Jessica Soli was caught trying to score on a passed ball.
Laurel Carstensen earned the win for NDNU, allowing just two earned runs in seven innings of work. She pitched her way out of several jams and stranded nine BYU base runners. Norris, Holt and Tara-lyn Odo picked up a pair of hits apiece while Crist drove in three. Norris finished with four RBIs in the second game to give her seven for the doubleheader. BOX SCORE

Argos Earn Second Straight Split with Hawaii Hilo
March 14 – For the second straight day, the Notre Dame de Namur softball team split a doubleheader with Hawaii Hilo. The Argos dropped the first game 5-1 before rebounding to win game two 3-0 on a Tara Van Meter walk-off homerun.
In the first game, the Vulcans took an early lead with a bases loaded walk in the first inning. The Argos tied the score in the bottom of the second on a sacrifice fly by Bryanne Norris that scored Danielle Holt. However, UHH scored the next four runs to take the game 5-1.
Van Meter received the loss on the mound for NDNU, surrendering five runs – four earned – in seven innings of work. Holt collected a pair of hits for the Argos at the plate. BOX SCORE
The second game was all pitching with Cierra Keeney and Amanda May hold each offense scoreless through six innings. Keeney pitched a perfect seventh before the Argos got to May in the bottom of the inning. May retired the first two batters of the inning, before Tanya Huson singled and Lindsay Crist was hit by a pitch to give NDNU a pair of base runners. Van Meter followed with a three-run walk-off homerun to end the game and give the Argos a 3-0 victory.
Keeney won her fourth straight game on the Hawaii road trip and improved to 6-1 on the season. She allowed just four hits and struck out two while earning her second complete game shutout of the trip. In Hawaii, Keeney allowed just three runs in 28 innings of work and went 4-0.
Van Meter recorded three hits and drove in three while Keeney also came up with two hits at the plate. BOX SCORE
The Argos improved to 5-3 in PacWest play and will continue conference play with a pair of doubleheaders against BYU Hawaii on Thursday and Friday.
Argos Split at Hawaii Hilo
March 12 – In their third conference doubleheader of the season, the Notre Dame de Namur softball team moved to 4-2 in the PacWest with a split with Hawaii Hilo. The Argos dropped the first game 4-3 on a walk-off homerun before rebounding to defeat the Vulcans 4-1 in game two.
In the first game, pitchers Tara Van Meter and Amanda May cruised through the first three innings without surrendering a run. The Argos struck first in the fourth on a RBI single by Bryanne Norris but the lead would not last long. UHH plated three in the bottom of the inning on a bases clearing double by Brianne Adams. NDNU would tie the score in the top of fifth on a hit by pitch and a RBI single by Danielle Holt. The game moved to the bottom of the seventh still tied at three before Kanani Numata led off the inning with a walk-off homerun to give Hilo a 4-3 victory.
Van Meter suffered the loss with four runs in six plus innings of work while reliever Christina Pedroza earned the victory with 2.2 innings of scoreless ball. Van Meter allowed only three hits and struck out seven. Tanya Huson and Holt each picked up a pair of hits while Holt and Norris drove in one run apiece. BOX SCORE
The second game was all NDNU as Cierra Keeney cooled the Vulcan bats to improve in 5-1 on the season. Keeney moved to 3-0 on the Hawaii trip with her third straight complete game victory. She surrendered just one run and struck out four in the 4-1 victory.
The Argos once again struck first, taking a 1-0 lead on a wild pitch that scored Huson. Hilo tied the score in the bottom of the inning on a RBI single by Brittany Dock. The game moved to the sixth still knotted at 1-1 before NDNU plated three runs to put the game out of reach. After the Argos loaded the bases with two outs, Norris delivered a bases clearing double to move the score to 4-1. With a three run cushion, Keeney allowed just one hit over the final two innings to preserve the victory.
Huson collected three hits on the game while Norris drove in three with a double. BOX SCORE
The Argos and Vulcans square off again tomorrow afternoon for the final two games of their Hawaii road trip.
Argos Sweep Chaminade, Move to 3-1 in Conference
March 11 – A day after splitting their first conference doubleheader of the season, the Notre Dame de Namur softball team responded with a sweep of Chaminade. The Argos moved to 3-1 in PacWest play, winning 6-4 in game one and 5-2 in game two.
The Swords jumped out to an early lead in first game, scoring one run in the first and three more in the second. Down by four, the Argos tied the game with a big second inning. NDNU plated two on fielding miscues by Chaminade before Lindsay Crist delivered a game tying two-run single.
The game stayed knotted at four apiece until the sixth, when the Argos scored two more to take the lead for good. Danielle Holt delivered a RBI single and Bria De Lorenzo drove in another to give NDNU the victory.
Tara Van Meter earned her fifth win of the season with a complete game. She allowed four runs – two earned – and struck out four. Crist and Dani Langit finished with two hits apiece and combined to drive in three runs. BOX SCORE
In the second game the Argos never trailed, scoring the games first five runs. NDNU scored three times in the third thanks to singles by Milana Jordan, Tanya Huson, Lindsay Crist and Bria De Lorenzo. Cassie Moser added a two-run double in the sixth to extent the Argonaut lead to five. Chaminade scored twice in the seventh but would not get any closer.
Cierra Keeney improved to 4-1 on the season with her second consecutive complete game victory over the Swords. She surrendered just two runs and struck out four. De Lorenzo collected two hits while Moser drove in two and Huson scored twice. BOX SCORE
The Argos are back in action Thursday when they travel to Hilo to face UHH in a doubleheader.
Argos Split with Chaminade in PacWest Opener
March 10 – The Notre Dame de Namur softball team opened Pacific West play by splitting a doubleheader with Chaminade. The Argos fell 3-2 in the first game after the Swords rallied in the seventh before taking the second game 2-0.
In game one, the Argos took a 1-0 lead in the first behind a sacrifice fly by Danielle Holt. Tara Van Meter added a solo homerun in the fourth to push the margin to two. The Swords pulled within one run in the sixth before plating two in the seventh to win. BOX SCORE
Lindsay Crist and Cierra Keeney led NDNU in the second game. Crist delivered a first inning two-run homerun to score the games only runs. Keeney held Chaminade scoreless with a complete game shutout. She allowed just five hits and struck out four. BOX SCORE
The Argos and Swords square off again tomorrow afternoon for another doubleheader.
Argos Swept by San Francisco State
March 6 - The Notre Dame de Namur softball team fell twice at the hands of San Francisco State in Thursday's non-conference doubleheader. The Argos could not get the bats going, managing just four hits and one run in the two games. SF State took the first game 6-1 two-hitter by Ashley Jackson. The second game was much of the same as Kendra Wood hurled a two-hit shutout and struck out seven. Tanya Huson picked up two of the four NDNU hits and scored the teams only run.

Van Meter Named PacWest Pitcher of the Week
March 3 – NDNU pitcher Tara Van Meter was chosen as the Pacific West Conference Pitcher of the Week for the week of February 25-March 2. The senior hurler saw action on the mound three times this week, earning Pitcher of the Week honors for the second time this season.
Van Meter posted a 1-1 mark with a 1.50 ERA after allowing just three earned runs in 14 innings of work. She also got it done at the plate, batting .500 for the week with seven hits in 14 at-bats. Van Meter finished with three doubles, a homerun, five RBIs and two runs scored.
In Thursday’s doubleheader against Vanguard, Van Meter was the tough luck loser, allowing five unearned runs in a 6-2 loss. She did however pick up two hits in each game, including a homerun in the first game.
On Sunday, Van Meter helped the Argos to a sweep of Humboldt with 4.1 scoreless innings of relief in game one. She appeared again in the second game and hurled a scoreless sixth to preserve a one run NDNU lead. Van Meter also delivered the games biggest hit with a two-out, two-run double in the bottom of the fourth to give the Argos a 7-6 lead.
Senior Danielle Holt also garnered honors last week, being named to the Weekly Honor Roll. Holt finished the week batting .462 with a homerun, three RBIs, three runs scored and a .692 slugging percentage. She picked up six hits in 13 at-bats, including four hits in Sunday’s doubleheader.
The Argos are back in action Thursday afternoon for a doubleheader with San Francisco State.
