Argos Close Out Season with Sweep
April 24 – The Notre Dame de Namur softball team concluded their 2010 season with a sweep of Patten University. The Argos used offense early in both games to go on to 7-5 and 7-0 victories.
The Argos took the first game after cruising to early lead before holding off a late Lions comeback. NDNU took a 4-0 lead in the second inning on a grand slam by Robyn Araujo. After back-to-back-to-back singles by Cassie Avila, Michele McMahon and Sammy McConvey, Araujo belted the ball over the leftfield fence. The Argos were back at it in the fourth, plating three more runs on three hits. Araujo led the inning off with a double before scoring on a RBI groundout by Mary Ortega. Breanna Morales would drive in another run on a single before a sacrifice fly by Avila extended the lead to 7-0.
Patten would get a pair back in the fifth inning, finally getting to NDNU starter Michele McMahon. Valorie Miller gave the Lions offense a boost with a two-run homerun to cut the deficit to 7-2. McMahon cruised through the sixth before Patten added three more runs in the seventh. A pair of singles gave the Lions two runners and Jarica Blakeley did the rest with a three run homerun to center. However, McMahon closed the door, getting the final two outs to end the game.
McMahon went the distance to earn the win, allowing five runs – three earned – while striking out four. Araujo led the NDNU offense with two hits and four RBIs with Morales tacking on three hits of her own. BOX SCORE
The Argonaut offense got going again at the start of the game two, scoring one in the bottom of the first and five in the bottom of the second. NDNU racked up five hits in the second, with most of the damage coming on a pair of two-run singles. Carli Leary and Araujo each delivered a two-out two-run single to push the Argos ahead 6-0.
Nicole Burr added another in the third with her team leading eighth homerun of the season. On the mound, McConvey was in control, allowing just two hits in three scoreless innings of work. Kristina Sewell came on in relief and picked up the win with four scoreless innings.
Araujo once again led the NDNU offense, driving in three runs while McMahon picked up her second straight multi-hit game. BOX SCORE
Argos Split Doubleheader with Academy of Art
April 10 – The Notre Dame de Namur softball team split a doubleheader with Academy of Art, dropping the first game 5-3 before rebounding with a 3-2, eight-inning victory. Both games were close throughout with the games being decided in the final inning.
The Urban Knights took the first game behind a strong pitching performance from Kimberly Dauer. Dauer hurled a complete game, allowing just three runs – one earned – and striking out three. Sammy McConvey matched her pitch for pitch through six innings, allowing just two runs before surrendering three in the final innings.
AAU got on the board first in the third inning but the Argos tied the score in the bottom of the inning with a RBI double by Dani Gray. After the Urban Knights scored again in the fifth, Nicole Burr tied the game with a solo homerun in the bottom of the inning. However, Academy of Art would plate three runs in the seventh inning to seal the game. BOX SCORE
The second game was all NDNU for the first six innings as Mary Ortega shutdown the Urban Knight offense. The Argos took a 1-0 lead in the first on a RBI single by Robyn Araujo and extended the lead to 2-0 in the sixth on a solo shot by Carli Leary. AAU showed some life in the seventh, using a leadoff homerun by Alana Aweay to cut the lead in half. After a single Julie Martin out the tying run on board, Ashley Lokey drove her home with a big two-out game tying single.
The game moved into the eighth inning tied at 2-2 when the Argos put the game away. Jessica Long drew a walk and was sacrificed to second. Michele McMahon then struck out but the ball got passed the catcher and allowed McMahon to try and take first base. The throw to first was wide, which allowed Long to come around and score to end the game.
The Argos and Urban Knights square off again tomorrow afternoon for their final meeting of the season. BOX SCORE
Argos Swept by Gators
April 7 – The Notre Dame de Namur softball team dropped a pair of games to visiting San Francisco State this afternoon. The Argos lost the first one 4-2 before falling 6-1 in the second game.
The first game remained tight throughout with the Gators getting on the board first in the opening inning. Danielle Mestas delivered a triple to the fence and came in to score on a fielder’s choice by Kelsey Wood. SFSU added another run in the second inning on an RBI single by Karolyn Gubbine.
The Argos cut the lead in half in the third inning, using three straight singles to plate a run. Mary Ortega and Carli Leary produced back-to-back hits before Ortega came around to score on a single by Breanna Morales.
Both pitchers would settle into their groove as Oretga did not allow a Gator to score for the next four innings. Meanwhile, Marisa Ibarra kept the Argos trailing with three more scoreless innings. In the seventh, SFSU got to Ortega again, plating two runs on a homerun by Mestes. NDNU got one run back in the bottom of the inning with a RBI single by Dani Gray but could not get any closer.
Ibarra picked up the victory for the visitors with six strong innings, allowing just one run and striking out four. Kendra Wood picked up the save with a one-run seventh. Ortega hurled a complete game for NDNU, surrendering four runs.
Morales and Gray led the NDNU offense with two hits and one RBI apiece. BOX SCORE
The second game was all San Francisco State as the Gators played multiple runs in both the first and second innings. The Gators scored two in the first thanks to back-to-back RBI hits by Mestes and Lea Cardenas. In the second, the visitors tallied three runs with Heather Jensen and Kylie Herrada providing RBIs.
Carolyn Knudson was in control on the mound for the Gators, holding the Argos scoreless for four innings before the Argos scored one in the fifth. Pitcher Michele McMahon led the inning off with a double and came around to score on a single by Ortega.
Ashley Jackson came on in relief for the SFSU, holding the Argos scoreless in the final two innings to preserve the victory.
Robyn Araujo picked up a three hits for NDNU while McMahon hurled a complete game, allowing five earned runs. BOX SCORE
Argos Fall Twice to CSU San Bernardino
March 29 – The Notre Dame de Namur softball team dropped a pair of non-conference games, falling to CSU San Bernardino 5-0 and 12-6.
The Coyotes started off the first game strong with a four-run first inning. After NDNU pitcher Sammy McConvey retired the first two batter, CSUSB loaded the bases with two singles and a hit batter. Ashley Collinwood then delivered a grand slam to give the Coyotes a 4-0 lead.
Breanne Godfredson handled the duties on the mount for CSU San Bernardino, allowing just one hit in five shutout innings to earn the victory. McConvey received the loss after surrendering five runs – four earned – in five innings. Michele McMahon hurled two scoreless innings in relief for NDNU. BOX SCORE
The second game was all offense as the two teams combined for 18 runs, 22 hits and six homeruns. The Argos got on the board first as Mary Ortega hit her team leading sixth homerun of the season in the bottom of the first. The lead did not last long with Stefanie Pace ripping a pinch hit grand slam in the top of the second to put the Coyotes ahead 4-1. The visitors would add four more in the third thanks to a 3-run homerun by Collinwood.
After a run in both the fourth and fifth innings, CSUSB led 10-1 and looked to close out the game. However, pitcher Michele McMahon ripped her first career homerun over the leftfield fence to extend the game. The Coyotes added another run in the sixth but McMahon extended the game again with her second two-run shot of the game.
The homeruns were too little too late as CSUSB took the game 12-6. McMahon finished 3 for 3 with two homeruns and four RBIs while Nicole Burr and Mary Ortega each tacked on a pair of hits. BOX SCORE
The Argos are back in action Wednesday afternoon when they travel to Arcata to take on Humboldt State.
Argos and Seasiders Split Doubleheader
March 23 – The Notre Dame de Namur softball team earned their second straight split with BYU Hawaii. The Argos and Seasiders played a wild first game that saw BYUH use five runs in the seventh to win 12-11. The Argos rebounded in the second game to win 7-2 behind a stellar pitching performance from Sammy McConvey.
The first game was a wild one with both teams erasing major deficits. The Argos scored first, plating a run in the top of the first inning on a RBI single by Rosella De Alva. The Seasiders tied the game in the bottom of the inning on a leadoff homerun by Jarell Veazie.
After a scoreless third, BYUH broke away in the fourth with a six run inning. The first three hitters reached base on singles to load the bases for the top of the lineup. After a passed ball gave the Seasiders a 2-1 lead, they used a single by Hayleigh Maher and a two-run double by Morgan Necaise to plate three more. Hannah Bateman and Mindy Rasmusson also contributed RBI singles to push the score to 7-1.
The score stayed 7-1 until the sixth when the Argos put up ten runs to retake the lead. NDNU capitalized on a pair of key Seasiders errors to extend the inning. Sammy McConvey got the scoring started with a RBI double before Cassie Avila plated two more with a single. After a bases loaded walk to Robyn Araujo made the score 7-5, Breanna Morelas tied the game with a two-run double. Nicole Burr followed with a go-ahead single and came around to score two pitches later after an illegal pitch and a wild pitch. Mary Ortega then followed with her fourth homerun of the season to give NDNU an 11-7 advantage.
BYU Hawaii staged a comeback of their own in the seventh, scoring five runs to take the game 12-11. The Seasiders used five singles and a key NDNU error to pull off the rally. Shiri Stevens came through with the walk-off single to seal the game.
Stevens also picked up the victory in relief for the Seasiders, allowing three runs in 1.1 innings of work. Kristina Sewell suffered the loss for NDNU after surrendering the final five runs.
Ortega, McConvey, Araujo and Avila recorded two hits apiece and drove in a combined five runs. Breanna Morales tacked on two RBIs. BOX SCORE
The second game was all Argonauts as Sammy McConvey controlled the game from the circle. McConvey hurled her second straight complete game, allowing just two runs – one earned – while striking out two.
The Argonauts offense did not waste any time, scoring two runs in the first inning on a homerun by Ortega. In the third, NDNU plated three more on a three-run blast by Morales. After the Seasiders got one back in the bottom of the third, Araujo moved the NDNU lead to 6-1 with a two-out RBI single in the fourth.
NDNU was back at it in the fifth, scoring on a solo homerun by Nicole Burr to lead off the inning. The Seasiders almost got a big chunk back in the bottom of the inning, loading the bases with zero outs. Brooke Perriton then sent a drive to dead centerfield that was caught at the wall by De Alva as the runners were advancing. De Alva then fired the ball back to the infield to complete a triple play.
Ortega and Araujo once again delivered multi-hit games while Morales drove in three runs. BOX SCORE
Argos Drop Two to Hawaii Pacific
March 21 – For the second straight day, the Notre Dame de Namur softball team dropped a pair of games to Hawaii Pacific. The Argos stayed close in the first game before falling 9-3 while the Sea Warriors also took the second game 7-1.
The Argos got on the board first in the opening game, plating a run in the top of the second on a RBI single by Mary Ortega. Ortega held the Sea Warriors scoreless over the first two innings but they were able to break through in the third. After two singles and a walk loaded the bases, Kozy Toriano delivered a two-out, two-run single to give HPU a 2-1 lead. The Sea Warriors added another on double steal and would never trail again.
Ortega helped herself out again in the fourth, drilling a solo homerun to leftfield to pull the Argos back within one run. Hawaii Pacific pushed it back to a two run margin in the bottom of the inning on a solo shot by Celina Garces.
The game moved into the sixth inning with the score still 4-2 before Breanna Morales cut the deficit in half with a solo homerun of her own. However, the Sea Warriors broke the game open in the bottom of the sixth, scoring five runs and cementing their victory.
Sherise Musquiz won her third game of the series, going the distance while allowing three runs on eight hits. Ortega received the loss after being charged for all nine runs in 5.2 innings of work.
Ortega led the NDNU offense with three hits, including a homerun and drove in a pair. Morales also picked up multiple hits for the Argos.
Toriano finished the game with two hits and five RBIs for the Sea Warriors, including a bases clearing single in the sixth. BOX SCORE
The Sea Warriors picked up where they left off in the second game, scoring three runs in the opening inning. After an error extended the inning, HPU used a steal and a single to record their three runs. They would add another in the fourth to extend to the lead to 4-0 while Ashley Valine remained in control on the mound.
Valine retired 12 of the first 13 batters she faced and did not allow a hit until the fifth inning. She went the distance, allowing just one run on five hits.
The Sea Warriors added two more in the fifth on a bases loaded single by Breanna Patton while the Argos finally got to Valine with a run in the sixth. Rosella De Alva and Amanda Johnson led off the inning with back-to-back singles before Carli Leary knocked in De Alva on a bloop single. However, HPU got the run back in the sixth and closed the game out with a 7-1 win. BOX SCORE
The Argos are back in action on Tuesday morning when they take on BYU Hawaii at 10:00 am.
Hawaii Pacific Sweeps Argonauts
March 20 – The Notre Dame de Namur softball team dropped a pair of tough ones to Hawaii Pacific, falling 4-0 and 10-9. The Argos surrendered an eight run lead in the second game before the Sea Warriors finally won the game with two runs in the seventh inning.
The first game was all Sea Warriors as pitcher Sherise Musquiz hurled a complete game, seven hit shutout to lead the visitors to a 4-0 victory. Hillary Ruddick got the call for NDNU and went the distance, throwing seven innings and allowing four runs.
Hawaii Pacific plated a pair of runs in the third on RBI singles by Maile Kim, Kozy Toriano and Breanne Patton to break a scoreless tie. Both pitchers would then settle into a groove as the game moved into the seventh with HPU still leading 3-0. The Sea Warriors would add another run in the seventh before Masquiz squashed an Argonaut rally in the bottom of the inning to end the game.

The second game could not have started off better for NDN as the Argos scored four runs in the opening inning. Carli Leary and Robyn Araujo both reached singles before scoring two batters later on a costly Sea Warrior error. Cassie Avila then followed with a RBI single before another run scored on a successful squeeze bunt.
The Argos tacked on four more in the third to push their margin up to eight runs. Araujo led the inning off with a double and scored on Breanna Morales single. Morales then came home on a two-run homerun by Nicole Burr. NDNU would add another on a double by Rosella De Alva and appeared to be in control of the game.
However, HPU got them all back in the fourth with an eight run outburst. Thirteen Sea Warriors came to the plate in the inning as two NDNU errors leading to seven unearned runs. Toriano and Chante Tesoro both provided big hits in the inning.
Michele McMahon did not make it out of fourth inning after holding HPU scoreless for the first three. McMahon allowed four runs in the fourth, but only one was earned. Mary Ortega came on in relief but also allowed four runs, all of which were unearned.
NDNU went back ahead in the fifth when De Alva delivered a big two-out RBI single off reliever Patton. The Sea Warriors answered back in the seventh off Ruddick, scoring two runs after being down to their final out. Ciera Senas delivered the big hit, a two-run single past the shortstop to score the tying and winning runs.
De Alva led the Argonaut offense with a career high three hits and two RBIs while Araujo also provided three hits. Burr added two hits, three RBIs and homerun. BOX SCORE
The Argos and Sea Warriors square off again tomorrow afternoon for a doubleheader starting at noon.
Argos Sweep Dominican
March 16 – The Notre Dame de Namur softball team returned home and pulled off a sweep of Dominican, winning the first game 8-6 and the second game 4-0. The Argos used a combined 22 hits and a stellar pitching performance from Hillary Ruddick in game two to earn the victories.
The Argos jumped out to a big lead in the game one, plating five second inning runs and never looking back. After the first four batters reached on a pair of walks and a pair of singles, NDNU took a 1-0 lead. An error and another walk made it 2-0 before Hillary Ruddick ripped a two-run double to make the score 4-0. Later in the inning, Carli Leary added a run on a sacrifice fly.
Dominican trimmed the lead to two in the third, using two walks and three singles to plate three runs. After rain halted the game until today, the Argos extended their lead with three runs in the top of the fourth. Amanda Johnson led off the inning with a single and advanced to third on a double by Carli Leary. After an RBI groundout by Sammy McConvey, Breanna Morales and Mary Ortega each plated a run with a single.
Michele McMahon rebounded from a rough third by allowing just one run over the next three innings. The Penguins tried to rally in the seventh, scoring two runs but ultimately fell short 8-6. McMahon allowed five runs over seven innings to pick up the victory while fanning three.

Hillary Ruddick dominated the second game on the mound for NDNU, hurling a complete game, six-hit shutout in her first career start. The Argonaut offense also provided the fire power, using a pair of solo homeruns by Ortega and Leary to build a lead.
Morales got the scoring started in the first with an RBI double and Ortega provided another run in the second with a homerun to left. After being held scoreless in the third, Rosella De Alva drove home a run in the third and Leary added a solo shot in the fifth.
Ortega once again led the NDNU offense with two hits, two runs and a RBI while Johnson, De Alva and Morales also provided two hits apiece.
Ruddick was in command from the start, allowing just one hit in the first three innings and striking out five. She did not allow a runner past second base for the game and finished with six strikeouts. BOX SCORE
The Argos are back in action on Saturday afternoon when they take on Hawaii Pacific at noon.
Argos Split First Doubleheader with Chaminade
March 8 – The Notre Dame de Namur softball split a pair of pitchers’ duels with Chaminade on the first day of their eight game Hawaii road trip. The Argos dropped the first game 3-2 after a sixth inning rally by the Silverswords before rebounding with a 2-0 extra-inning victory in the nightcap.
The first game was tight throughout as Chaminade got on the board first with a run in the bottom of the third innings. The Argos responded in the top of the fourth with a RBI single by Cassie Avila to tie the game at 1-1. After a scoreless fifth, Mary Ortega put NDNU ahead by one with her first career homerun, a solo blast to over the left centerfield fence.
In the bottom of the sixth, the Silverswords were finally able to get something going on Sammy McConvey as they plated a pair of runs. McConvey had been cruising, retiring seven straight batters before Chaminade collected a back-to-back singles to lead off the sixth. Shalin Yamaguchi then came through with a two-run double to put the Silverswords up for good.
McConvey went the distance for NDNU, allowing three runs in six innings while striking out two. Avila led the offense with a pair of hits and a RBI. BOX SCORE
The second game was even more of a pitchers’ duel with starters Kristina Sewell and Kasy’e Lalau keeping the game scoreless through seven innings. Lalau was untouchable to start the game, retiring the first 17 Argonauts she faced. Sewell was nearly as good, allowing just four hits in the first hits in the first seven innings.
The Argonaut bats got going in the eighth when Hillary Ruddick led off with a single. Two batters later, Jessica Long drove her in with a RBI triple to plate the first run of the game. Carli Leary would drive home Long later in the inning to provide a two run cushion for NDNU. Chaminade would not go down quietly, loading the bases with just one out but Sewell was able to retire the final two batters to end the game.
Sewell hurled a complete game shutout, allowing just seven hits in eight innings and striking out four. Long provided a pair of hits and drove in the game winning run. BOX SCORE
The Argos and Silverswords meet again on Tuesday for another doubleheader.
Argos Split with CSU Stanislaus after Leary Walk-off
February 25 – The Notre Dame de Namur softball team pulled off a split with CSU Stanislaus after a furious seventh inning rally in the second game. The Argos overcame a three run deficit in game two to prevail 7-4 on a walk-off homerun by Carli Leary.
The first game was a pitchers’ duel throughout as Sammy McConvey and Brittani Weatherford retired batter after batter. Each offense managed a hit in the first inning before the pitchers put the clamps on. McConvey retired 14 straight from the second to the sixth inning while Weatherford was nearly as good, allowing just one hit and two walks over the that span.
The Warriors finally broke through in the seventh with a lead-off single and steal by Jen Arnold. After an error, Brittany Balanesi ripped a two-run triple into the gap for the first runs of the game. Kiley Mendez followed with a RBI single as CSU Stanislaus went ahead 3-0. Weatherford retired the Argos in order in the bottom of the seventh to record a complete game shutout. She allowed just two hits and two walks while striking out seven.
McConvey allowed three runs – two earned – on five hits and fanned a career high six. She also recorded one of the two NDNU hits with the other coming off the bat of Carli Leary. BOX SCORE
The Warriors picked up where they left off in game two, plating a run in each of the first two innings. The Argos kept a few more runs from scoring after gunning down a pair of runners on the basepaths.
NDNU got one back in the bottom of the fourth on a RBI single by Breanna Morales but Warriors responded with two in the fifth. Sarah Lacarini and Missy Corral tallied back-to-back hits to provide the RBIs.
The Argos offense got going in the seventh after Robyn Araujo followed up a Morales single with a two-run homerun to left field. After Mary Ortega singled and was sacrificed to second, she advanced to third on a passed ball before a pinch hit single by Dani Gray tied the score at 4-4. Amanda Johnson came through with an infield single to put two runners on for Leary who belted the Arnold offering over the center field wall to end the game.
McMahon earned the win for NDNU after allowing three earned runs in seven innings and striking out six. Arnold received the loss with seven runs in 6.2 innings. BOX SCORE
The Argos are back in action Tuesday afternoon for a game against CSU East Bay at 1:00 pm.
Argos and Penguins Split PacWest Opener
February 20 – The Notre Dame de Namur softball team opened up conference play with a split against visiting Dominican. The two close games both came down to the final inning with the Penguins taking game one 4-3 and the Argos rebounding with a 5-4 win.
The Argos jumped out to an early lead in the first game, plating a run on a RBI single by Breanna Morales. In the bottom of the second, Dominican answered back in a big way when Robyn Ridpath belted a 1-1 pitch over the centerfield wall for a 3-run homerun.
The Penguins took that lead into the bottom of the sixth as pitcher Lesley Fay kept the Argonaut bats from scoring. However, Nicole Burr pulled NDNU within one in the sixth when she knocked in a pair on her first career homerun.
After relief pitcher Michele McMahon shutdown the Penguins in the top of the seventh, Fay finished off the game by retiring the Argonauts in order.
Fay went seven innings, allowing just three runs on eight hits and striking out two. Sammy McConvey got the start for NDNU and surrendered four runs – three earned – in five innings of work. McMahon finished off the game for the Argos with four strikeouts in a pair of scoreless innings.
Burr drove in two of NDNU three runs while Carli Leary picked up a pair of hits. Ridpath finished with three hits and three RBIs for the Penguins. BOX SCORE
The second game started out similarly as the Argos scored first, going ahead 1-0 in the second on a RBI single by Jessica Long. The Penguins meanwhile, could not get their offense started as Mary Ortega limited them to just one hit in the first three innings.
Dominican got their bats going in the fourth, using doubles by Ridpath and Molly Howard to tie the score at 1-1. Long put NDNU back ahead in the bottom of the inning with a two-out RBI double down the leftfield line.
After a pitching change to start the fifth for Dominican, the Argos built a big lead, plating three runs. Robyn Araujo drove home the first run of the fifth with a RBI double while Burr connected on her second homerun of the day to give NDNU a 5-1 advantage.
The Penguins would not go away quietly as they scored a run off reliever Kristina Sewell in the sixth to move within three runs. In the top of seventh, the visitors once again got on the board by scoring a pair of runs and putting the tying run into scoring position. However, Sewell got the final out by getting Howard to groundout and end the game.
Ortega picked up her first career victory, allowing just one run in five innings while striking out six. Long finished with two hits and two RBIs while Burr drove in a pair. Amanda Johnson also collected a pair of hits for the Argonauts. BOX SCORE
The Argos and Penguins square off again tomorrow afternoon for another doubleheader.
Argos Drop Pair of One Run Games to San Francisco State
February 16 – Two days after picking up their first victory, the Notre Dame de Namur softball team dropped a pair of tough one-run games to San Francisco State. The Argos dropped the first game 11-10 in the 10th inning before their comeback fell just short in the nightcap 4-3.
The first game started with a lot of scoring as the Gators plated three in the bottom of the first. NDNU responded quickly with a five-run second innings on a 3-run double by Carli Leary and a two-run homerun by Robin Araujo. SFSU tied the score after scoring a run in both the fifth and sixth inning, sending the game to the seventh tied at 5-5.
In the top of the seventh, the Argos scored two on RBIs by Nicole Burr and Breanna Morales but the Gators responded with a pair of runs of their own to send the game into extra innings. NDNU scored in the eighth but once again the Gators tied the score. The ninth was much of the same as the Argos scored two but SFSU countered with a pair of runs to send the game into the tenth.
NDNU could not get a run across in the tenth while the Gators were able to end the game on a RBI single with one down.
Leary and Araujo picked up a pair of hits each while combining to drive in five runs. Sammy McConvey pitched 6.2 solid innings for the Argos, allowing just three earned runs. Kristina Sewell allowed just one run in 2.2 innings but was saddled with the loss. BOX SCORE
The second game started out the same way with the Gators once again scoring three in the first innings. The Argos pulled within one in the fourth inning when Cassie Avila and McConvey picked up back-to-back RBI hits. SFSU plated another in the bottom of the fourth to give themselves an insurance run while the Argos could not tie the game in the game with a one-two-three seventh inning.

Argos Swept in Season Opener
February 10 – The Notre Dame de Namur softball team opened up their season with a pair of losses to Sonoma State. The Seawolves took the first game 9-0 before pulling of the sweep with 8-1 victory in the second game.
The first game was all Sonoma State as pitcher Samantha Lipperd held the Argos hitless. The Seawolves offense also got going fast, plating a run in each of the first two innings before breaking the game open with a six run fourth inning. They would go on to score another in the fifth to make the score 9-0 and end the game.
The Argos struggled at the plate, managing just four walks and a hit batter. Lipperd fanned four and did not allow more than one runner on until the fifth inning. Mary Ortega got the start for NDNU and allowed eight runs in four innings before Sammy McConvey threw a scoreless inning in relief.
Simone Brandalise led the SSU offense with four hits and four RBIs while Ashley Britton and Ali Palmero added two hits apiece. BOX SCORE
The second was much of the same as the Seawolves plated one in each of the first two innings before bringing home five in the third to take a 7-0 lead. Skylynn Myers drove home the lone run in the first while Brittany Martinez knocked in the run in the second. The key hit of the third was a bases clearing two-out double by Danielle D’Eccliss.
Sonona State pitcher Julianne Martinez held the Argos hitless in her four innings of work, striking out three and walking two.
The Argos extended the game in fifth with a two out run but could not get any closer as Brandalise earned the save with three innings of work.
Robyn Araujo picked up the lone Argonaut hit with a sixth inning single. Kristina Sewell allowed seven runs – six earned – in three innings of work before McConvey finished off the game with four strong innings. BOX SCORE
