Grand Canyon Sweeps Past Argos
April 17 – The Notre Dame de Namur softball team closed out their 2009 home and conference schedule with a pair of losses to Grand Canyon. The Antelopes offense came alive late in both games to earn 8-4 and 9-2 victories.
In the first game, the Antelopes took an early lead on a RBI single by Tara Holtorf in the first inning. The Argos responded with a two-run second inning after Robyn Araujo hit a solo homerun and Cassie Avila scored on an error. Pitcher Kristina Sewell held the Antelopes scoreless in the third before the visitors plated three in the fourth to retake the lead. The advantage did not last long as Carli Leary tied the score in the bottom of the inning with a two-run homerun. Grand Canyon went ahead for good in the sixth with three runs, all of which came with two outs.
GCU pitcher Natasha Dypchey picked up the win with 2.2 innings of scoreless relief while Michele McMahon received the loss in relief. Leary led the NDNU offense with three hits, including a homerun and a double. Lindsay Crist, Lauren Esteban, Araujo and Avila all picked up two hits for the Argos. All nine Antelopes picked up at least one hit, with seven recording multi-hit games. BOX SCORE
The second game remained close as well with the Antelopes once again scoring in the first inning on a RBI single by Tara Holtorf. The Argos responded quickly, scoring two in the bottom of the inning on a two-run single by Breanna Morales. The advantage would only last until the third when Yasmeen Watkins ripped a 3-run homerun off McMahon to give the Antelopes a 4-2 lead. Holtorf came through again in the bottom of the sixth with a two-run single to provide some insurance runs. GCU would go on to score five in the seventh to push the score to 9-2.
McMahon went three innings, allowing four runs – one earned – and received the loss. Sam Tiefenthaler settled in to finish of the game with six scoreless innings and earn the victory. Holtorf and Watkins led the Antelopes offense as they combined for four hits and seven RBIs. Avila collected three hits for the Argonauts. BOX SCORE
Argos Fall by One to Academy of Art
April 15 – The Notre Dame de Namur softball team could not hold onto an early lead as the Academy of Art scored the final two runs in a 2-1 victory. NDNU pitcher Breanna Morales kept the Urban Knights in check, holding the visitors to just two runs in her first career complete game.
Morales also got things started at the plate when she led off the second inning with a double off the rightfield fence. Robyn Araujo drove her home on a RBI single and the Argos took a 1-0 lead. The Knights knotted the score in the top of third on four straight hits with the run coming into score on a double by Shampayne Clay.
Morales and AAU pitcher Ericka Ames traded scoreless innings until the sixth when the Knights went ahead for good. After a leadoff double by Nicole Palmer, Ames helped her own cause with a RBI single later in the inning. Ames took over on the mound from there, retiring six of the final seven batter to preserve the victory.
Cassie Avila picked up a pair of hits for NDNU while Alana Aweau went 3 for 3 with two doubles for Academy of Art. Ames earned the victory as she went the distance, allowing just the one run.
The Argos close out their home schedule on Friday when Grand Canyon comes to Belmont for a 1:00 pm start. BOX SCORE
Argos Fall to San Francisco State Twice
April 14 – The Notre Dame de Namur softball team struggled to keep the San Francisco State bats at bay as the Gators hit their way to a pair of victories. SFSU took the first game 10-2 before overcoming an early deficit to take the second game 7-2.
The Gator bats carried the visitors in the first game as they racked up ten runs on 19 hits. SFSU got things going in the first, scoring three runs on four hits before adding three more in the second on five hits. The Argos plated two in the bottom of the first when Breanna Morales ripped a RBI single through the left side. Lea Cardenas gave the Gators a five run lead on a solo homerun in fourth while the visitors would go on to add three more to make the score 10-2.
Ashley Jackson tempered the NDNU bats, allowing just one earned run and five hits. All nine Gators recorded at least one hit while seven picked up at least two. Alyssa Esquibel and Arianna Welch led the team with three hits apiece. BOX SCORE
The second game remained tight for the first few innings with the Argos taking a 2-1 lead after three innings. Lauren Esteban led off the third with double before scoring on a single by Carli Leary. Leary would later score on a double by Robyn Araujo as NDNU took their first lead of the day. The Gators recaptured the lead in the top of fourth when an error extended the inning, allowing the visitors to score a pair of runs. In the top of fifth, SFSU busted the game open with three runs, two of which came on a double by Karolyn Gubbine.
Kristina Sewell, Michele McMahon and Brittany Cowart pitched for the Argos with McMahon receiving the loss after allowing two unearned runs in two innings of work. Vanessa Traun earned the victory for San Francisco State with five innings of scoreless relief. She allowed just two hits and struck out seven. Leary led the Argos with three hits, two doubles and a RBI. BOX SCORE
The Argos are back in action tomorrow afternoon for a doubleheader against Academy of Art.
Argos Swept by Cal Baptist
April 9 – The Notre Dame de Namur softball team returned home this week to face Cal Baptist, the No. 1 team in the NAIA. The Lancers proved to be worthy of the ranking after sweeping the Argos 11-0 and 13-0.
The first game was all Lancers as the visitors score five runs in both the second and third innings on their way to an 11-0 victory. Nicole Shoemaker got the scoring started with a RBI double before Kendall Gorham belted a three-run homerun that busted the game open. In the third inning, Shoemaker added a solo homerun and Ashley Boyd chipped in a three-run shot to push the score to 10-0.
Tory Ferreira controlled the game on the mound for Cal Baptist, hurling a complete game, two hit shutout. Kate Elwell and Carli Leary each picked up a hit for the Argonauts. BOX SCORE
In the nightcap, it was much of the same as the Lancers jumped out early with nine runs over the first three innings. Nikki Lowe got things started with a solo homerun before Caty Reeves drove home another with a single. In the second, Katie Miller and Ashley Boyd each drove in a run on a base hit. The Lancers then plated five in the third thanks to seven singles, including five straight at one point. In the fourth, Cal Baptist added another four runs on six hits.
Pitcher Emma Holden dominated on the mound for the Lancers, allowing just one hit and striking out nine in five innings of work. The only hit for NDNU came off the bat of Lauren Esteban in the fourth inning. BOX SCORE
NDNU is back in action next Tuesday when San Francisco State comes to Belmont for a doubleheader.
Argos Split with BYU Hawaii
April 1 – The Notre Dame de Namur softball team earned a split with BYU Hawaii after winning the first game 4-3 in extra innings. The Seasiders took the nightcap 7-1 behind seven runs in the final two innings.
The Argos picked up their first conference win of the year in the first game with an extra innings victory. NDNU got on the board in the first on an RBI single by Lindsay Crist and extended their lead to two on a solo homerun by Carli Leary the next innings.
Michele McMahon shutdown the Seasider bats for the first five innings, allowing just three hits. However, in the sixth BYU put two runners on with back-to-back singles and Ivy Sessions drove them both in with a three-run homerun. With the visitors up 3-2 in the sxith, Lindsay Crist knotted the game with a solo homerun that would eventually send the game into extra innings.
In the bottom of the eighth the Argos ended it. Lauren Esteban reached on error and would come home to score when Leary’s single went past the leftfielder. Kristina Sewell picked up the win for NDNU with two scoreless innings of relief. BOX SCORE
The second game featured a very tight pitcher’s duel as Sewell retook the mound and shutdown the Seasiders for four innings. Julianne Tialaver matched her pitch for pitch, holding the Argos scoreless for the first five innings. Danielle Gray broke a scoreless tie in the bottom of the fifth with a solo homerun but the Seasiders tied the score in the sixth with a two-out double by Sessions.
Kahea Bethain gave the Seasiders the final runs of the game with a two-run homerun off McMahon in the bottom of the sixth. BYU Hawaii would go on to add four more in the top of the seventh to take a commanding 7-1 lead. Tialaver did the rest as she held the Argos to one run in the final two innings. BOX SCORE
The Argos are back in action this weekend when the travel to Turlock for the CSU Stanislaus Tournament.
Argos Drop Two to Chaminade
March 31 – The Notre Dame de Namur softball team dropped another PacWest doubleheader, falling to Chaminade 6-1 and 6-2.
In the first game, the Silver Swords jumped out to an early lead with a three run first innings. After an error allowed Chaminade to load the bases, Chiko Mihara drove in two on a single to leftfield. The visitors would go on to add another run in the fourth and two more in the fifth to give themselves a 6-0 lead. NDNU scored one in the bottom of the fifth on a RBI single by Dani Langit but that would be all the Argos would get off pitcher Kasye Lalau.
Lalau went the distance, allowing just one run on six hits and fanning one. Michele McMahon surrendered six runs – four earned in 4.1 innings for NDNU before Brittany Cowart came on with 2.1 scoreless innings in relief. Danielle Gray picked up two hits for the Argos, giving her a hit in five straight at-bats. BOX SCORE
The Argos scored first in the second game, plating two in the bottom of the second. Gray continued her hot hitting with a RBI double and Lindsay Crist drove home another with a two-out single. Breanna Morales was in control on the mound, holding the Silver Swords scoreless for the first four innings. However, Chaminade got to her in the fifth with three runs to take a one run advantage. The Argos threatened with runners on base in both the fifth and sixth innings but could not get the tying run across.
Anuhea Yamaguchi then came up big for the Silver Swords in the top of the seventh with a two-out, three-run homerun to give the visitors a four run cushion. Lalau once again picked up the victory as she hurled four scoreless innings in relief of Chelsi Walls. Carli Leary led the NDNU offense with three hits, including a double in the first inning. The Argos are back in action tomorrow afternoon for another PacWest doubleheader against BYU Hawaii.
#11 HPU Sweeps Argos
March 30 – The Notre Dame de Namur softball team took one of the top teams in the country as they dropped a pair of games to #11 Hawaii Pacific. The Sea Warriors slugged their way to a 20-4 victory in the first game before taking the second game 6-0.
The Sea Warriors broke the first game open in the second with ten runs on seven hits, including a bases clearing double by Kozy Toriano and a two-run homerun by Courtney Kessell. HPU added five more in the third, three of which came on a three-run homer by Maile Kim.
Kessell controlled the game on the mound as well, holding the Argos to two runs in three innings of work. Melissa Kirby came on in relief to pick up the victory, allowing a pair of solo homeruns to Breanna Morales and Lindsay Crist. Kim finished with three hits, two homeruns and six RBIs to lead the HPU offense. BOX SCORE
The second game stayed close as pitchers Kristina Sewell and Sherise Musquiz held the offensives in check. The Sea Warriors got to Sewell in the third on a two-out RBI double by Casey Sugihara. The Argos threatened in the bottom of the inning but could not even the score. In the fifth, HPU busted the game open on a three-run homerun by Krystal Plunkett.
Musquiz picked up the victory for Hawaii Pacific with a complete game shutout, allowing just seven hits and a walk. Danielle Gray had three of NDNU’s hits, including a double. BOX SCORE
The Argos continue conference play tomorrow afternoon when they take on Chaminade at the College of San Mateo at 1:00 pm.
Argos Swept by Hawaii Hilo
March 28 – The Notre Dame de Namur softball team dropped a pair of games to visiting Hawaii Hilo, falling 4-2 in the first and 8-0 in the second game.
The Argos jumped ahead early in the first game, scoring a run in the bottom of the first. Lindsay Crist led off with a triple down the rightfield line and would eventually come in to score on a sacrifice fly by Robyn Araujo. NDNU starter Kristina Sewell shutdown the Vulcan offense for four innings, but the visitors broke through in the fifth.
After three straight singles to lead off the inning, Nicole Alconcel knotted the game at 1-1 with a sacrifice fly. Aisha Sueda then came through with a big two-out two-run double to put UHH up for good. Tessa Truong and Breanna Morales traded solo homeruns in the seventh to end the game at 4-2.
Hilo pitcher Amber Waracka allowed just three hits on the game while Sewell surrendered four runs in a complete game loss. Crist picked up two of the three NDNU hits with a double and a triple. BOX SCORE
Troung and Alconcel carried the Vulcan offense in the second game, combining for three homeruns and seven RBIs. Alconcel put the Vulcans on the board in the third with a three-run homerun to left before Truong added a two-run homer in both the fourth and sixth inning.
Christina Pedroza kept the Argos scoreless for six innings, allowing just three hits and striking out two. BOX SCORE
The Argos are back in action on Monday afternoon when #11 Hawaii Pacific comes to Belmont for a doubleheader.
Argos Fall to Humboldt State
March 26 – In a one game non-conference contest played at San Mateo College, the Notre Dame de Namur softball team fell to defending NCAA Champion Humboldt State 8-2.
The Jacks came out swinging, plating four runs in the opening inning on a RBI single by Lindsay Warren and a two-run double by Caitlin Klug. The Argos responded with a run in the bottom of the inning with back-to-back-to-back singles by Carli Leary, Robin Araujo and Breanna Morales. Humboldt would take on two more in the top of the second when Marissa Slattery recorded her second RBI single of the game.
The Argos threatened again in the third when Danielle Gray singled home a run but a potential third run was gunned down at the plate for the final out. Natalie Galletly extended the Jacks lead to 8-2 with a bases loaded two-run single in the sixth.
Humboldt stater Nichole Parada allowed just one earned run in her three innings of work while Gracie Perez finished off the game with seven strikeouts in four scoreless innings. Brittany Cowart and Morales combined for seven innings for NDNU with Cowart working four of them. BOX SCORE
Araujo led the Argos with a pair of hits while Morales and Gray each drove in a run. Galletly drove him three for Humboldt while Klug led all players with three hits.
The Argos are back in action Saturday afternoon when they continue PacWest play against Hawaii Hilo. First pitch is scheduled for noon.
Argos Split with Chico State
March 25 – The Notre Dame de Namur softball team returned home for the first time in nearly a month a split a doubleheader with Chico State. The Argos dropped the first game 8-1 before rebounding to take game two 9-6.
In the first game the Argos started strong scoring the first run of the game in bottom of the first on a double steal. The Wildcats finally got to starter Kristina Sewell in the third with a pair of runs and tacked on two more in the fourth. Chico pitcher Jessica McDermott then hit her groove allowing just five hits while striking out seven in a complete game victory. The Wildcats would go on to add four more in the seventh to end the game at 8-1.
Sewell went the distance for the Argos and allowed four earned runs while Lindsay Crist went 2 for 2 with a pair of steals. BOX SCORE
The Argonaut offense took off in the second game, scoring six runs in the second to bust the game open. Nine consecutive batter reached base with Kate Elwell, Crist, Carli Leary, Breanna Morales and Cassie Avila all driving in at least one run. After the Wildcats got a run back in each of the third and fourth innings, Avila came through with her first career homerun to get both runs back. The Wildcats threatened in the top of the seventh, plating three and getting the go-ahead run to the plate but could not get any closer.
Michele McMahon was in control on the mound, going the distance to pick up the win. Crist picked up three more hits and added an RBI while Avila finished with two hits and three RBIs. Morales, Lauren Esteban and Danielle Gray each tacked on a pair of hits. BOX SCORE
The Argos are back in action tomorrow afternoon for a game against Humboldt State at the College of San Mateo.
Argos Drop Pair at Sonoma State
March 18 – The Notre Dame de Namur softball team dropped a doubleheader to Sonoma State, falling in the opener 11-3 before losing a pitchers duel 2-0 in the nightcap.
The Argos surrendered five first inning runs in the first game to fall behind big early on. Sonoma State would go on to add two more in the third to push their lead to 7-0. Lindsay Crist plated three runs in the top of the fourth with a bases clearing triple to give the Argos some hope. However, the Seawolves responded with four in the bottom of the inning to take the game 11-3. BOX SCORE
In the second game, Kristina Sewell matched SSU’s Brittany Williams pitch for pitch as the game moved into the sixth inning still scoreless. In the bottom of the sixth, the Seawolves offense plated two runs which would prove to be enough. BOX SCORE
Crist had a big day for the Argonauts, finishing 4 for 6 with three RBIs and four steals. Sewell hurled six innings in the second game and allowed just three hits while striking out four.
The Argos are back in action on Sunday when they travel to Phoenix to take on Grand Canyon.
Argos Struggle in Hawaii
March 14 – The Notre Dame de Namur softball team concluded their week in Hawaii with a pair of losses to Hawaii Pacific. The Argos dropped six games on the island for the week with a doubleheader against BYU Hawaii getting rained out.
The trip started on Monday with a pair of 3-0 losses to Hawaii Hilo as the Argonaut offense struggled. NDNU managed just one hit in each game as Hilo pitchers Amber Waracka and Sarah Weisskopf each hurled complete game shutouts. In the first game, Kristina Sewell shutdown the Vulcans offense for five innings before the home team busted the game open with a three run sixth. Michele McMahon looked good for NDNU in the second game but surrendered a run in the second, fourth and fifth innings.

On Wednesday, the Argos travelled to Chaminade and dropped two tough one run games. In the opener, the two teams combined for 23 runs and 36 hits with the Silver Swords prevailing 12-11.
The Argos put a pair of runs on the board in the first and third innings before scoring three in the fourth to take an 8-4 lead. Chaminade then responded with three in the bottom half of the fourth and three more in the fifth to take a 10-8 advantage into the seventh. NDNU stormed back with three in the seventh thanks to a two-run double by Lindsay Crist to take an 11-10 lead into the bottom of the inning. The Silver Swords put their first two runners on base before a two-run single gave the home team a 12-11 victory. Crist finished the game with four hits and three RBIs while Cassie Avila went 3 for 3 and Robyn Araujo homered and drove in four. Game 3 Box
The night cap was a completely different story as Chaminade finished the sweep with a 1-0 win in a pitchers duel. Sewell went the distance for NDNU, allowing just five hits and one run. However, the Argonauts offense could not drive anyone across the plate as they managed just five hits. Game 4 Box
The final doubleheader of the trip pitted the Argos against defending PacWest Champions Hawaii Pacific. The Sea Warriors handed NDNU a pair of shutout losses with a 5-0 victory in the first game and a 6-0 victory in the second. All-PacWest pitcher Courtney Kessell held the Argonaut bats to just four hits in the first game while Sherise Musquiz hurled six shutout innings in the second.

For the trip, Carli Leary led the NDNU offense with a .444 batting average while Crist hit .368 with two doubles.
The Argos are back in action Wednesday, March 18th when they travel to Rohnert Park to face Sonoma State.
Argos Sweep Bethany
February 21 – One big inning in each game proved to be enough as the Notre Dame de Namur softball team swept Bethany with 4-2 and 8-2 victories in Saturday’s doubleheader. The Argos improved to 7-3-1 on the season and extended their winning streak to five in a row.
Michele McMahon improved to 4-1 on the season with another complete game victory. She allowed two runs in seven innings of work and struck out three. The Bears took a 2-0 lead in the first but the Argos responded with a four-run fourth. Seven straight Argos reached base, including five on hits to score the four runs. Carli Leary delivered the big hit with a two-run double to put NDNU up for good while Lindsay Crist and Lauren Esteban finished the game with two hits each. BOX SCORE
In the second game, the Argos once again used a big fourth inning to bust the game wide open. Nine straight Argonauts reached base in the inning with the first eight batters all scoring. Brittany Cowart picked up her first career victory with seven innings of work. She allowed just two unearned runs and struck out three. Michele McMahon and Dani Langit led the offense with two hits apiece with McMahon driving in a pair. BOX SCORE
The Argos are back in action on Tuesday afternoon when they travel to Rohnert Park to face Sonoma State.
Argos Take Three of Four at CSUSB Tournament
February 15 – The Notre Dame de Namur softball team improved to 5-3-1 on the season with an impressive 3-1 record at the Division II Super Regional Preview Tournament hosted by CSU San Bernardino. The Argos rebounded from an opening game loss to Regis take their final three games, including a victory over Regis on Sunday.
After a delay postponed the start of the tournament the Argos struggled in their opener against Regis, falling 7-0. Ranger pitcher Bianca Holley limited the Argos two just two hits while the NDNU defense struggled with three errors. Kristina Sewell received the loss for NDNU but struck out nine in six innings of work. BOX SCORE
In Saturday’s night cap, the Argos used a seven run seventh to streak past Adams State 11-2. After falling behind by a run in the first, NDNU knotted the score in the third before adding another in the fifth and two more in the sixth. With the score 4-1 heading into the seventh, the Argonaut bats stayed hot with a seven run innings. Carli Leary and Lauren Esteban did most of the damage as each drove in two runs. Michele McMahon picked up the victory with a complete game and allowed just two runs. BOX SCORE
McMahon came out strong again in the first game on Sunday as she pitched the Argos to a 4-1 victory over Regis. She hurled another complete game, this time allowing just one run on four hits and fanned seven. Lindsay Crist and Danielle Gray carried the offense as Crist went 3 for 3 and Gray drove in three runs. BOX SCORE
The final game of the tournament saw the Argos face CSU Monterey Bay for the third time this season. NDNU once again earned the victory as they used a four run eight to earn an 8-7 victory. Sewell went the distance for the Argos to earn the victory while striking out eight. The Otters took a 1-0 lead into the sixth before a three run triple by Cassie Avila gave NDNU the lead. The Argos added another in the seventh but CSUMB tied the score at 4-4 in the bottom of the inning. In the top of the eight, NDNU plated four runs on four consecutive doubles to go ahead 8-4. CSU Monterey Bay came back with three in the bottom of the eighth but Sewell got the final out to preserve the victory. BOX SCORE
The Argos are back in action next weekend when Bethany and CSU Monterey Bay come to Belmont for a pair of doubleheaders.
Argos Open Season with Win and Tie
February 1 – The Notre Dame de Namur softball team got their season off to a good start with a 4-1 victory against CSU Monterey Bay before tying the Otters 2-2 in a 16-inning second game. The Argos used a pair of excellent pitching performances to surrender just one earned run over the two games.
In the first game, sophomore pitcher Kristina Sewell allowed just four hits and an unearned run to pick up the first victory of her career. Sewell kept the Otters off balance all game long while recording six strikeouts.
The Argonaut scoring came in the first two innings with a pair of runs in each. Lindsay Crist got the offense going in the first with a lead-off double before coming into score on a single by Danielle Gray. Cassie Avila picked up the second RBI with a bases loaded hit-by-pitch to give NDNU a 2-0 lead.
CSU Monterey Bay cut the deficit in half in the bottom of the inning but fell behind 4-1 after the Argos plated two more in the second. Crist once again got the offense going with a one-out single and advanced to second on a stolen base. Gray would drive her home two batter later with another RBI single and would eventually score herself on a single by Breanna Morales.
Sewell would do the rest as she allowed just two hits over the next five innings. The Otters threatened in the seventh, loading the bases but failed to score as Sewell ended the game with a strikeout. BOX SCORE
The Argos pitching proved to be just as impressive in the second game as Michele McMahon and Sewell combined to allow just two runs – one earned – in 16 innings. Jessica Boyle matched the two NDNU hurlers with 16 innings of her own and a school record 20 strikeouts.
The Otters on the board first with an RBI double by Shelair Rowell in the opening frame before moving ahead 2-0 in the fifth on a single by Rowell. Boyle kept the Argonauts scoreless through the first six innings but NDNU would tie the score with a pair of runs in the seventh.
Morales reached base after getting hit by a pitch and advanced to second when Carli Leary reached on an error. After Boyle retired the next two Argonauts, Morales and Leary came around to score on an error by the catcher.
After a scoreless eighth, Sewell came on in relief to hurl eight scoreless innings. She allowed just three hits and struck out five with the game ending in a 2-2 tie after 16 innings. Boyle finished out the game for CSUMB, holding the Argonauts without a hit until the tenth inning. BOX SCORE
The Argos are back in action this weekend when they travel to Turlock to participate in the Mizuno Sports Best of the West Tournament.
Four Argos Earn All-Conference Recognition
May 22 – The Notre Dame de Namur softball team was well represented when the Pacific West released their All-Conference teams on Thursday afternoon. Four Argonauts earned All-PacWest accolades, led by senior Tara Van Meter’s First Team selection.
Fellow seniors Tanya Huson and Cierra Keeney garnered Second Team honors while junior Lindsay Crist was also named Second Team All-PacWest.
Van Meter (Sacramento, CA/ St. Francis HS) was named to the First Team as a Utility player after starring at the plate and on the mound this season. She led the team with a .366 batting average and finished first in hits (56), homeruns (8) and RBIs (34). In the circle, Van Meter led the Argos with a 3.13 ERA and 82 strikeouts while compiling an 8-14 record. She earned All-PacWest honors for the second straight year after being selected to the Second Team last season.
Keeney (Tracy, CA/Merrill West HS) also earned All-Conference honors for the second consecutive year as a pitcher. She finished with a 4.14 ERA while leading the Argos with a 10-8 record. Keeney also led the team in complete games with 12 and shutouts with two. During the teams eight game trip to Hawaii, she went 4-0 with a 0.75 ERA and four complete games.
Huson (Tahuya, WA/North Mason HS) earned the selection after starting all 52 games at shortstop for the Argonauts. She was the team’s primary lead-off hitter and finished third with a .312 average. Huson led the Argos with 38 runs scored and 15 doubles while placing third in homeruns with four. She led the conference with 121 assists in the field and finished second in doubles.
Crist (Orting, WA/Summer HS) received Second Team accolades after excelling in the outfield and as the number two hitter this season. She finished second in homeruns with six, third in RBIs with 25 and fourth in average at .298. Crist was also flawless in the field, finishing with 57 putouts and not recording a single error.
This marked the second straight year the Argos placed four players on the All-Conference teams.
Argos Sweep Dominican
April 26 – The Notre Dame de Namur softball team pulled off their second sweep of Dominican this season with a pair of wins of the road. The Argos took the first game 6-5 in extra innings before downing the Penguins 3-1 in game two.
In the first game, Tara Van Meter came on in relief to throw the final 7.1 innings and earn the victory. Starter Laurel Carstensen allowed three runs in the first before Van Meter allowed just two runs – one earned – for the rest of the game. Danielle Holt led the Argonaut comeback with three hits and three RBIs while Tara-lyn Odo drove in a pair of runs. BOX SCORE
Cierra Keeney shutdown the Penguins in the second game to lead NDNU to a 3-1 victory. Keeney surrendered just one run in six innings of relief as the Argos jumped out a three run lead and never looked back. Argos Drop a Pair on Senior Day
April 19 – The Notre Dame de Namur softball team closed out their 2008 home schedule with a pair of high scoring defeats to Grand Canyon. The Argos fell 13-5 in game one before dropping the second game 9-7.
NDNU struggled in the field in the first game, committing five errors that led to ten unearned runs. Danielle Holt led the Argos offense with two hits, a homerun, three RBIs and a stolen base. Tara Van Meter, Tara-Lyn Odo and Bryanne Norris each added a pair of hits. BOX SCORE
In the second game, the Argos surrendered an early four run lead after Yasmeen Watkins’s grand slam put the ‘Lopes up for good. Bria DeLorenzo went deep twice for NDNU, finishing with three hits and four RBIs. Norris also tacked on a solo homerun and a double. BOX SCORE

Argos, Seawolves Split Twinbill
April 14 – The Notre Dame de Namur softball team earned a split with Sonoma State in Monday’s non-conference doubleheader. The Argos surrendered an early lead in game one to fall 7-3 before erasing a three run deficit in the second game to win 7-3.
In the first game, the Argos could not hold onto a three run lead as Sonoma State scored six runs in the seventh inning to win 7-3. NDNU got on the board in the second inning with a pair of runs before adding another in the third. Cierra Keeney drove in one run while Danielle Holt’s walk in the third gave the Argos a 3-0 lead.
The Seawolves finally got to Laurel Carstensen in the fifth, pushing one run across on a RBI double by Dani Lopez. Carstensen cruised through the sixth and got two outs in the seventh before the Sonoma State comeback turned the tides. The Seawolves collected four straight hits with Kayla Ledford’s single knocking in a pair and tying the game. After a walk loaded the bases, Nikki Freiberg belted a grand slam to put SSU up for good.
Brittany Williams rebounded from a slow start to hold the Argos scoreless through the final four frames. Cartsensen received the loss after allowing six runs in 6.2 innings. Five different Argonauts collected hits with Keeney and Holt picking up an RBI each. BOX SCORE
The second game went Sonoma’s way early as the visitors plated a run in the second on a RBI single by Britni Geary. Nicole Cordova delivered a two-run homerun in the third to push the lead to 3-0 and drive starter Cierra Keeney out of the game.
Tara Van Meter cut the Seawolves lead to one with one swing of the bat in the third. Van Meter blasted Sonoma State starter Kayla Ledford full count pitch over the centerfield wall for a two-run homerun. Cassie Moser put the Argos up 4-3 in the fourth with a two-run homerun of her own. NDNU would add another in the inning before scoring two more in the sixth to take a 7-3 advantage.
Van Meter earned the victory with 4.2 innings of scoreless pitching while picking up a homerun and four RBIs at the plate. Tanya Huson finished with three hits while Danielle Gray and Bria DeLorenzo each picked up a pair. BOX SCORE

Argos Drop Three of Four at Dixie State
April 12 – The Notre Dame de Namur softball team struggled in Utah, dropping three of their four games against Dixie State. On Friday, the Argos surrendered a big lead in game one to lose 5-4, before falling 7-1 in game two. Saturday started much of the same with the Rebels taking the first game 10-1. NDNU responded in the second game with a 6-2 victory.
In the first game on Friday, the Argos took a 4-1 lead after homeruns by Tanya Huson and Cierra Keeney. The Rebels rallied back to tie the game in the seventh before Brittany Fowler and Christina Dixon collected back-to-back hits in the eight to give Dixie a 5-4 victory. Tara Van Meter recorded two hits and two RBIs while pitching 5.2 innings and surrendering just three runs. BOX SCORE
Game two was all Rebels as they broke the game open in the fifth and sixth with six combined runs. Tara-lyn Odo collected two hits for the Argos while Bryanne Norris drove in the only run in a 7-1 defeat. Keeney suffered the loss after allowing five earned runs in a complete game while Jessie Dunn held NDNU to just one run in 6.2 innings. BOX SCORE
Saturday’s first game did not start well for the Argos as Dixie State scored in six of the seven innings, including a four run fourth. Norris delivered two of the Argos six hits while driving in the lone run. Haley Schumers earned the victory for DSC after allowing just one run in five innings of work while Fowler drove in three runs on three hits. BOX SCORE
The Argos rebounded in the final game of the series as Keeney hurled a complete game to improve to 8-7 on the season. Keeney surrendered just four hits and two runs while striking out a pair. NDNU took control in the first two innings, plating three runs in each and cruising to a 6-2 victory. NDNU dropped to 18-25 on the season and moved to 8-12 in Pacific West play. They return home this week to take on Sonoma State and Grand Canyon.
Argos Blast Dominican
March 29 – The Notre Dame de Namur softball team brought out their bats in a pair of five inning victories over Dominican University. The Argos used back-to-back-to-back homeruns in game one to win 8-0 before scoring in every inning of game two to win 10-0.
In game one, the Argos scored a run in both the second and third inning before busting the game open in the fourth. Tara-lyn Odo, Dani Langit and Tanya Huson started the fourth off with consecutive singles to load bases. Lindsay Crist stepped in and took the Deena Westrope offering over the leftfield fence for a grand slam. Tara Van Meter and Bria DeLorenzo followed with long balls to give NDNU back-to-back-to-back homeruns.
Van Meter also shined on the mound, earning the victory after allowing just three hits in five shutout innings. Danielle Holt, Odo, Huson and Crist recorded two hits apiece to lead the NDNU offense. BOX SCORE
The second game was much of the same as the Argos earned another big victory. NDNU scored two runs in first and second innings before adding four more in the third and two in the fourth. DeLorenzo drove in both first inning runs with a bases loaded single while Crist brought in two with a triple in the second. After RBIs from Danielle Gray and Odo, Huson ripped a two-run double to give NDNU an 8-0 advantage. Cassie Moser capped off the scoring with a two-run double in the fourth.
Laurel Carstensen picked up the win for the Argos with five innings of two-hit ball. She struck out six and walked three. DeLorenzo went 3 for 3 to lead NDNU while Huson, Crist and Odo registered two hits each. DeLorenzo, Huson, Crist and Moser also drove in two runs apiece. BOX SCORE

HPU Earns Second Straight Sweep of NDNU
March 26, 2008 – For the second straight day, the Notre Dame de Namur softball team was swept at the hands of first place Hawaii Pacific. The Argos fought hard in a 4-0 loss in game one before falling 10-1 in game two.
Courtney Kessell kept the Argo bats silent in the first game, allowing just two hits and striking out eight. The Seasiders produced just four hits on the game, but made the most of them, scoring four runs. They plated two in the second despite picking up just one hit and added another in both the fifth and sixth innings.
Tara Van Meter suffered the loss for NDNU after allowing three runs – one earned – on four plus innings of work. Van Meter gave up three hits, walked five and struck out six. Laurel Carstensen came on in relief to hurl two innings of one run ball.

The Argos got on the board first in game two, scoring a run in the top of the first. After a Lindsay Crist double, Bria DeLorenzo drove her in with a single to give NDNU their first lead of the series. However, it did not last long as Nicole Kalakau belted a two-run homerun off Keeney to give HPU a 2-1 advantage.
HPU blew the game open in the second, scoring five times and taking a 7-1 lead. Laine Shikuma drove home one with a double before Kalakau and Jessica Adolph plated two more with hits of their own. The Seasiders would go on to add another in the third and two more in the fourth to take the game 10-1.
Sherise Musquiz earned the win for HPU with five innings of one run ball while Keeney suffered the loss. DeLorenzo delivered two of the Argos three hits and added an RBI. Adolph and Skikuma collected three hits and two RBIs apiece for the Seasiders with Kalakau adding two hits and four RBIs. BOX SCORE

Argos Swept by First Place HPU
March 25 – The Notre Dame de Namur softball team fell to 7-7 in PacWest play with a pair of losses to first place Hawaii Pacific. The Argos fell 9-1 in the first game before dropping game two 8-0.
The first game started out close, with each team scoring one in run in the second inning. The Seasiders plated one on a RBI single by Nicole Rivera before the Argos tied the score on Cierra Keeney’s two-out RBI single. HPU was back at it in third, taking a 3-1 lead after Krystal Plunkett drove in one with a single and Tajia Acierto added another with a sacrifice fly.
The most important play of the game came in the bottom of the when Lindsay Crist nearly gave the Argonauts a lead. With two runners on, Crist belted a pitch to straight away centerfield but was robbed of a homerun by Acierto. Acierto made the catch while crashing into the fence before getting up to catch Tara-lyn Odo trying to score at the plate.
The Seasider bats picked up again in the fifth, scoring four two-out runs on five hits. The sixth was much of the same as HPU used four hits to plate two more and end the game 9-1.
Laurel Carstensen surrendered three runs in three innings before Tara Van Meter came on in relief to allow six runs. Courtney Kessell earned the victory for HPU with five innings of one run ball. Plunkett and Nicole Riviera led the Seasiders with four hits apiece as the team racked up 16 hits for the game. Riviera also added four RBIs while Acierto and Ciera Senas drove in two apiece. In the second game, HPU picked up where they left off, scoring a run in both the first and third innings. With the Argo bats silenced by Sherise Musquiz, the Seasiders once again got to Keeney in the fourth with two runs on five consecutive singles. HPU added another in the fifth and three more in the seventh to extend their advantage to 8-0.
Keeney registered the loss for NDNU, allowing eight runs – five earned – in seven innings of work. Musquiz kept the Argos off balance all game long, earning the win with six shutout innings. Five Seasiders finished with two hits in the game. Van Meter recorded two hits for the Argos with Danielle Holt collecting a double. BOX SCORE

Argos and Seasiders Split Again
March 22 – For the fourth consecutive PacWest doubleheader, the Notre Dame de Namur softball team dropped the opening game before rebounding to take game two. The Argonauts split two games with BYU Hawaii, falling in game one 6-5 in eight innings and winning the second game 6-4.
The first game started out perfectly for NDNU as Tanya Huson led off the game with a homerun. Lindsay Crist followed with a single before moving to third on Tara Van Meter’s double. Crist would later score on a sacrifice fly before Bryanne Norris drove in the third run of the inning with a single. Bettye Doering got one run back for the Seasiders with a RBI single in the bottom of the inning.
The Argos plated another in the second on Van Meter’s sacrifice fly before BYU replace Doering with Crystal De La Cruz. De La Cruz got the final two outs of the inning and went on to retire the first 14 batters she faced. With the NDNU offense stagnant, the Seasiders rallied to tie the score in the fifth. After putting two runners on, Van Meter surrended a three-run homerun to Doering which tied the game a 4-4.
Huson came up big in the seventh, putting the Argos back on top with a RBI double to left. However, BYUH knotted the score once again as Athena Salinas drew a bases loaded walk to send the game to extra innings. In the eight, the Argos went down quietly before De La Cruz gave herself the victory with a walk-off RBI single.
Van Meter received the loss for NDNU after surrendering six runs – three earned – in 7.1 innings. De La Cruz earned the win for the Seasiders with 6.2 innings of one run ball. Huson and Crist eached picked up a pair of hits for the Argos with Huson also driving in a pair. Doering was the run producer for BYUH, driving in four on a pair of hits. BOX SCORE
NDNU once again got on the board first in game two, plating two runs in the opening frame. Crist belted a solo homerun before Norris drove in another with a single to leftfield. Kahea Bethan cut the Seasiders deficit to in half with a solo homerun of her own in the bottom of the second.
The Argos tacked on three more in the third and one in the seventh to take a 6-1 advantage. Keeney helped her own cause with a RBI single in the third inning and Milana Jordan drove in another on a squeeze play. In the seventh, NDNU scored on an error by the Seasider’s catcher that allowed Holt to score.
After surrendering the second inning homerun, NDNU pitcher Cierra Keeney rebounded with four scoreless innings. BYU Hawaii rallied in the seventh to score three runs, but would not get any closer. She went the distance to improve to 7-2 on the season and moved to 5-1 in PacWest starts.
Keeney also came up big at the plate with three hits, a RBI and a stolen base. Crist and Norris also recorded multiple hits and a RBI. BOX SCORE
The Argos moved to 7-5 in conference play with the Seasiders falling to 4-8. PacWest continues next Tuesday and Wednesday when the Argos square off against first place Hawaii Pacific for four games.
Argos, Seasiders Split Twinbill
March 21 – The Notre Dame de Namur softball team improved to 6-4 in Pacific West play with a split in Friday’s doubleheader against BYU Hawaii. The Argos fell 8-7 in game one after their furious seventh inning comeback fell short before rebounding to take game two 8-4.
In the first game, the Argos built an early lead before the Seasiders responded with seven straight runs. NDNU got on the board in the first on a bases loaded walk by Bryanne Norris and added another in the third on Danielle Holt’s RBI single. Pitcher Bettye Doering cut the deficit in half with a solo homerun in the top of the fourth.
The Seasiders got to NDNU starter Cierra Keeney in the fifth with six runs to take a 7-2 lead. The visitors collected six hits in the inning, five of which were doubles, including back-to-back two-out two-run doubles Kahea Bethan and Kim Artiaga. Tanya Huson got one run back for the Argos with a leadoff homerun in the fifth but BYUH scored again in the top of the sixth to take an 8-3 lead.
Despite being down five runs in the seventh, NDNU refused to quit with three straight hits to leadoff the inning. After Lindsay Crist drove in a run, Tara Van Meter plated another with a sacrifice fly. Relief pitcher Crystal De La Cruz retired two batters before Norris brought the Argos within one with a two-out two-run double. However, De La Cruz retired Cassie Moser to end the game and preserve the 8-7 victory.
Keeney’s streak of four straight victories came to an end after surrendering seven runs – six earned – in five innings. Doering earned the win for the Seasiders with six plus innings of work. Huson, Van Meter and Holt each picked a pair of hits for NDNU while Norris drove in three runs. The Seasiders got hits from eight of their nine starters including five with two hits. BOX SCORE
NDNU carried their hot bats over to the second game despite falling behind in the first. The Seasiders scored a pair in the first on a two-out single by Artiaga before Crist and Norris each belted a two-run homerun in the bottom of the inning.
The Argos added another in the second on a sacrifice fly by Crist. Norris struck again in the third with a two-run double and later scored on Keeney’s sacrifice fly to give NDNU an 8-2 advantage.. BYU chipped away with a run in both the fifth and sixth innings but missed a chance to get more when Jessica Soli was caught trying to score on a passed ball.
Laurel Carstensen earned the win for NDNU, allowing just two earned runs in seven innings of work. She pitched her way out of several jams and stranded nine BYU base runners. Norris, Holt and Tara-lyn Odo picked up a pair of hits apiece while Crist drove in three. Norris finished with four RBIs in the second game to give her seven for the doubleheader. BOX SCORE

Argos Earn Second Straight Split with Hawaii Hilo
March 14 – For the second straight day, the Notre Dame de Namur softball team split a doubleheader with Hawaii Hilo. The Argos dropped the first game 5-1 before rebounding to win game two 3-0 on a Tara Van Meter walk-off homerun.
In the first game, the Vulcans took an early lead with a bases loaded walk in the first inning. The Argos tied the score in the bottom of the second on a sacrifice fly by Bryanne Norris that scored Danielle Holt. However, UHH scored the next four runs to take the game 5-1.
Van Meter received the loss on the mound for NDNU, surrendering five runs – four earned – in seven innings of work. Holt collected a pair of hits for the Argos at the plate. BOX SCORE
The second game was all pitching with Cierra Keeney and Amanda May hold each offense scoreless through six innings. Keeney pitched a perfect seventh before the Argos got to May in the bottom of the inning. May retired the first two batters of the inning, before Tanya Huson singled and Lindsay Crist was hit by a pitch to give NDNU a pair of base runners. Van Meter followed with a three-run walk-off homerun to end the game and give the Argos a 3-0 victory.
Keeney won her fourth straight game on the Hawaii road trip and improved to 6-1 on the season. She allowed just four hits and struck out two while earning her second complete game shutout of the trip. In Hawaii, Keeney allowed just three runs in 28 innings of work and went 4-0.
Van Meter recorded three hits and drove in three while Keeney also came up with two hits at the plate. BOX SCORE

Argos Split at Hawaii Hilo
March 12 – In their third conference doubleheader of the season, the Notre Dame de Namur softball team moved to 4-2 in the PacWest with a split with Hawaii Hilo. The Argos dropped the first game 4-3 on a walk-off homerun before rebounding to defeat the Vulcans 4-1 in game two.
In the first game, pitchers Tara Van Meter and Amanda May cruised through the first three innings without surrendering a run. The Argos struck first in the fourth on a RBI single by Bryanne Norris but the lead would not last long. UHH plated three in the bottom of the inning on a bases clearing double by Brianne Adams. NDNU would tie the score in the top of fifth on a hit by pitch and a RBI single by Danielle Holt. The game moved to the bottom of the seventh still tied at three before Kanani Numata led off the inning with a walk-off homerun to give Hilo a 4-3 victory.
Van Meter suffered the loss with four runs in six plus innings of work while reliever Christina Pedroza earned the victory with 2.2 innings of scoreless ball. Van Meter allowed only three hits and struck out seven. Tanya Huson and Holt each picked up a pair of hits while Holt and Norris drove in one run apiece. BOX SCORE
The second game was all NDNU as Cierra Keeney cooled the Vulcan bats to improve in 5-1 on the season. Keeney moved to 3-0 on the Hawaii trip with her third straight complete game victory. She surrendered just one run and struck out four in the 4-1 victory.
The Argos once again struck first, taking a 1-0 lead on a wild pitch that scored Huson. Hilo tied the score in the bottom of the inning on a RBI single by Brittany Dock. The game moved to the sixth still knotted at 1-1 before NDNU plated three runs to put the game out of reach. After the Argos loaded the bases with two outs, Norris delivered a bases clearing double to move the score to 4-1. With a three run cushion, Keeney allowed just one hit over the final two innings to preserve the victory.

Argos Sweep Chaminade, Move to 3-1 in Conference
March 11 – A day after splitting their first conference doubleheader of the season, the Notre Dame de Namur softball team responded with a sweep of Chaminade. The Argos moved to 3-1 in PacWest play, winning 6-4 in game one and 5-2 in game two.
The Swords jumped out to an early lead in first game, scoring one run in the first and three more in the second. Down by four, the Argos tied the game with a big second inning. NDNU plated two on fielding miscues by Chaminade before Lindsay Crist delivered a game tying two-run single.
The game stayed knotted at four apiece until the sixth, when the Argos scored two more to take the lead for good. Danielle Holt delivered a RBI single and Bria De Lorenzo drove in another to give NDNU the victory.
Tara Van Meter earned her fifth win of the season with a complete game. She allowed four runs – two earned – and struck out four. Crist and Dani Langit finished with two hits apiece and combined to drive in three runs. BOX SCORE

Argos Split with Chaminade in PacWest Opener
March 10 – The Notre Dame de Namur softball team opened Pacific West play by splitting a doubleheader with Chaminade. The Argos fell 3-2 in the first game after the Swords rallied in the seventh before taking the second game 2-0.
In game one, the Argos took a 1-0 lead in the first behind a sacrifice fly by Danielle Holt. Tara Van Meter added a solo homerun in the fourth to push the margin to two. The Swords pulled within one run in the sixth before plating two in the seventh to win. BOX SCORE
Lindsay Crist and Cierra Keeney led NDNU in the second game. Crist delivered a first inning two-run homerun to score the games only runs. Keeney held Chaminade scoreless with a complete game shutout. She allowed just five hits and struck out four. BOX SCORE

March 6 - The Notre Dame de Namur softball team fell twice at the hands of San Francisco State in Thursday's non-conference doubleheader. The Argos could not get the bats going, managing just four hits and one run in the two games. SF State took the first game 6-1 two-hitter by Ashley Jackson. The second game was much of the same as Kendra Wood hurled a two-hit shutout and struck out seven. Tanya Huson picked up two of the four NDNU hits and scored the teams only run.

Van Meter Named PacWest Pitcher of the Week
March 3 – NDNU pitcher Tara Van Meter was chosen as the Pacific West Conference Pitcher of the Week for the week of February 25-March 2. The senior hurler saw action on the mound three times this week, earning Pitcher of the Week honors for the second time this season.
Van Meter posted a 1-1 mark with a 1.50 ERA after allowing just three earned runs in 14 innings of work. She also got it done at the plate, batting .500 for the week with seven hits in 14 at-bats. Van Meter finished with three doubles, a homerun, five RBIs and two runs scored.
In Thursday’s doubleheader against Vanguard, Van Meter was the tough luck loser, allowing five unearned runs in a 6-2 loss. She did however pick up two hits in each game, including a homerun in the first game.
On Sunday, Van Meter helped the Argos to a sweep of Humboldt with 4.1 scoreless innings of relief in game one. She appeared again in the second game and hurled a scoreless sixth to preserve a one run NDNU lead. Van Meter also delivered the games biggest hit with a two-out, two-run double in the bottom of the fourth to give the Argos a 7-6 lead.
Senior Danielle Holt also garnered honors last week, being named to the Weekly Honor Roll. Holt finished the week batting .462 with a homerun, three RBIs, three runs scored and a .692 slugging percentage. She picked up six hits in 13 at-bats, including four hits in Sunday’s doubleheader.
The Argos are back in action Thursday afternoon for a doubleheader with San Francisco State.
