Three Argos Receive All-PacWest Honors

March 31 – Senior Britni Rathke was one of three Notre Dame de Namur women’s basketball players to earn All-Conference honors when she was named First Team All-PacWest.  Senior Tanaia Keyes garnered Second Team honors while junior Jennifer Dreessen was named Honorable Mention.

hRathke, a forward from Snohommish, Washington, started all 26 games and turned in the best statistical season in school history, breaking several NDNU records.  She averaged 15.6 points, 11.8 rebounds, 2.3 blocks and 1.8 steals per game as a senior while playing the most minutes on the team. 

Rathke already earned Daktronics Second Team All-West Region honors after ranking 5th in the nation in rebounding and 22rd in blocks.  She finished second in the West Region in rebounding and first in blocks while ranking 4rd in the PacWest in scoring, second in rebounding and first in blocks.  Rathke was named Second-Team Cosida Academic All-District and was named the PacWest Player of the Week once and was selected to the Conference Honor Roll 12 times.

Rathke’s rebound average ranks first all-time with her points and blocks ranking second.  She also recorded a NDNU record 16 double-doubles this season and became the school’s all-time leader in blocks.

hKeyes, a forward from Seattle led the team in both scoring and steals finished second in 3-pointers and blocks.  She set a single season school record for points per game after averaging 15.7 points as a senior.  Keyes ranked 3rd in the conference in scoring and blocks, seventh in free throw percentage and seventh in steals.  She has scored in double figures 21 times and has topped 20 points eight times.  Keyes was named First Team All-PacWest last season and has been named to the PacWest Weekly Honor Roll nine times this season. 

hDreessen, a forward from Danville earned her third straight All-Conference accolade after being named to the Second Team last season and Honorable Mention as a freshman.  She led the team in field goal percentage for the third straight years after connecting on 53% of her shots.  Dreessen also finished second in rebounding with 5.2 per game and third in scoring at 8.8 points. 

 

hRathke Named Second Team All-Region

March 11 – Senior forward Britni Ratke became the first basketball player in school history to earn Daktronics All-Region honors with she was selected to the West Region Second Team on Tuesday. 

Rathke (Snohomish, WA/Snohomish HS) started all 26 games and turned in the best statistical season in school history, breaking several NDNU records.  She averaged 15.6 points, 11.8 rebounds, 2.3 blocks and 1.8 steals per game as a senior while playing the most minutes on the team.  Rathke’s rebound average ranks first all-time with her points and blocks ranking second.  She also recorded a NDNU record 16 double-doubles this season and became the school’s all-time leader in blocks.

hArgos Fall to Dixie State on Senior Night

February 28 – The five NDNU women’s basketball seniors combined to score 69 points in a losing effort as the Argonauts fell to Dixie State 89-77.  The Argos finished the season at 9-17 and went 5-7 in PacWest play. 

The game was back and forth from the start with the first half featuring six ties and seven lead changes.  The Argos started off strong as Britni Ratke and Ashley Wilson scored eight points apiece to give NDNU a 16-10 advantage.  The Red Storm fought back and went ahead by six with eight straight points before a pair of late free throws gave the visitors a two point lead heading in the break. 

Tanaia Keyes took over the start of the second half, leading NDNU on a 20-9 run by scoring 11 straight points.  However, Dixie State quickly responded with a 16-0 run to take a seven point lead that they would never relinquish.  The Argos narrowed the gap to three with just over two minutes remaining but the Red Storm answered with seven straight. 

The Argos shot 50% from the field but allowed Dixie State to grab 17 offensive rebounds.  Both teams hit seven 3-pointers on the night while the visitors held a 34-16 advantage from the charity stripe.

Keyes poured in a game high 28 points and added seven rebounds and three steals.  She scored 21 points in the second half on 8-14 shooting.  Rathke turned in another monster game with 18 points and 15 rebounds to record her 16th double-double of the season.  Ashley Wilson knocked down three triples on her way to 13 points and Sandy Perry also reached double figures with 10 points and five assists.

Deney Phommabout led the Red Storm with 24 points off the bench, connecting on 10-11 from the free throw line.  Courtney Boyd added 14 points, six steals and four assists while Jessie Ingraham tacked on 12.   BOX SCORE

 

hArgos Topple Dixie State with Big Second Half

February 27 – It was a game of two halves as the Notre Dame de Namur women’s basketball team erased a 17 point deficit to come back and defeat Dixie State 78-66.  The Argos improved to 9-16 on the season and finish conference play with a 5-7 record.

The Argos struggled mightily in the early going, falling behind by 17 after a 12-0 Red Storm run.  NDNU managed to trim the margin to seven at the break with a 13-3 run to end the half.  Dixie State’s 26-15 rebounding advantage was the major reason for their lead as the Argos outshot from the field 43% to 37%.

The second half was a different story with the Argos scoring 13 of the first 19 points to even the game with 15:09 remaining.  After the Red Storm went ahead by one with 9:19 left, NDNU rattled off 11 straight points to go ahead by ten.  The Argos would never look back as Britni Rathke scored 11 of 13 points to push NDNU up by as many as 15.

The Argos shot 52% in the second half and made 20-23 from the charity stripe to outscore the Red Storm 47-28.

Rathke turned in her 15th double-double of the season with 21 points, 16 rebounds, three blocks and three steals.  She put up 19 points and 12 rebounds after the break and connected on 9-11 from the free throw line.  Tanaia Keyes tacked on 18 points on 6-9 shooting while Jennifer Dreessen also reached double figures with 12 points, seven rebounds and four steals.  Ashley Wilson made three 3-pointers to chip in nine.

Deney Phommabout paced the Red Storm with 19 points off the bench while Tanya Clark finished with 15 points and 12 rebounds.

These two teams will square off again tomorrow night as the Argos close out their season with Senior Night.  BOX SCORE

 

Argos Suffer Late Loss to BYU Hawaii

February 17 – The Notre Dame de Namur women’s basketball team went five minutes late in the game without a basket as BYU Hawaii came back and prevailed 64-61.  The Argos moved to 4-7 in conference play with one game remaining while the Seasiders improved to 5-4.

NDNU led the first half from start, taking an early 16-6 lead on 7-9 shooting.  The Seasiders chipped away at the deficit and cut the lead to three going into the break.  The Argos hit half their shots in the first but allowed BYU Hawaii to stay close by committing 13 turnovers.

The Seasiders took their first lead of the game in the opening minutes of the second half with five straight points.  The teams traded baskets for the next several minutes as neither one could pull ahead by more than four points.  After BYUH took a three point lead with just under 12 minutes left, the Argos responded with seven straight points to go ahead by four.

Jen Dreessen’s lay-up with 5:17 remaining gave NDNU a 56-52 lead, but they could not off the Seasiders who responded with eight straight points.  After Tanaia Keyes hit a pair of free throws to cut the lead to two with 46 second left, the Argos forced a turnover and got the ball back but could not even the score on the next possession.  The Seasiders iced the game with a lay-up and a pair of free throws in the final seconds.

Keyes led the Argos with 13 points while Ashley Wilson connected on three 3-pointers to finish with 11.  Britni Rathke just missed a double-double but finished with nine points, 11 rebounds, six blocks and three steals.

Latoya Wily scored a game high 25 points and grabbed 11 rebounds while hitting 8-12 from the field.  Mahina Gago and Richelle Fenenbock also reached double figures for BYU Hawaii with 14 and 13 points respectively. 

The Argos close out the season with a pair of games against Dixie State on February 27-28 at Walter Gleason Gym.  BOX SCORE

 

hArgos Outlast Grand Canyon in Overtime

February 14 – Five Argonauts score in double figures as the Notre Dame de Namur women’s basketball team toppled Grand Canyon 84-80 in overtime.  The Argos got 28 points from Tanaia Keyes, including 21 in the second half and overtime.

The Antelopes controlled the beginning of the game for the second straight night as they jumped out to a 28-19 advantage with less than eight minutes remaining in the half.  The Argos responded with a 10-2 run to cut the deficit to one before a buzzer beater gave GCU a three point advantage at the break. 

NDNU connected on six 3-pointers in the half to remain close with Ashley Wilson connecting on three of them.

In the second, each team gained the lead several times before the Argos reeled off a 13-2 run to take a ten point lead with 6:14 remaining.  However, the Antelopes would not go away as they used a 13-5 run to pull within a basket.  After GCU tied the game in the final minute, Britni Rathke converted a lay-up to give the Argos a two point lead with 33 second left.  Samantha Murphy responded for the Antelopes with a game tying jumper with just two ticks remaining.

With the game moving to overtime, the Argos hit 4-5 shots to take control of the game and outscore GCU 11-7.  The Argos shot 49% from the game, including 50% from behind the arc with a 12-24 performance. 

Keyes finished just off her career high with 28 points and added eight rebounds, seven assists and four steals.  She also made 10-21 shots including 4-8 from 3-point range.  Wilson hit five triples of her own to finish with 15 points while Jen Dreessen shot 6-8 on her way to 12 points and eight rebounds.  Rathke just missed a double-double with 11 points, nine rebounds and four blocks.  Kim Hom also reached double figures with 10 points, four rebounds and four assists off the bench.

Murphy once again was unstoppable offensively with 33 points, four rebounds, four assists and six steals.  She made 16-17 from the charity stripe.  Kristi Girdley tacked on 14 points for the Antelopes.  BOX SCORE

 

hArgos Struggle in First Half, Fall to Grand Canyon

February 13 – The Notre Dame de Namur women’s basketball team struggled in the first half of their game against Grand Canyon, connecting on just 23% of their shots before falling 78-56.  The Argos moved to 4-6 in conference play while the Antelopes clinched at least a share of the PacWest crown.

The first half was all GCU as the Antelopes jumped out to an early 20-9 advantage thanks to 11 early points from Samantha Murphy.  After the Argos responded with a basket, Grand Canyon rattled off a 17-2 run and took a 37-15 lead into the break.  The Argos committed 17 first half turnovers and she just 1-12 from 3-point range.

The second half was much more evenly played but NDNU could not fight their way back into the game.  The Argos shot 58% in the half as each team scored 41 points.

Britni Rathke was the lone bright spot offensively for NDNU as she recorded her 14th double-double of the season with 25 points and 11 rebounds.  Rathke scored 19 second half points including 12 of 16 points during one stretch.  Jennifer Dreessen added seven points and seven rebounds while Kim Hom scored seven points off the bench.

Murphy did it all for the Antelopes, finishing with a game high 30 points to go along with 10 rebounds, six assists and six steals.  Stacy Haddow also reached double figures for GCU with 15 points and five steals.

The Argos and Antelopes square off again tomorrow night for their fourth and final meeting of the season.  BOX SCORE

 

hRathke, Wilson Earn CoSIDA Academic All-District Honors

February 10 – Britni Rathke and Ashley Wilson both earned a CoSIDA Academic All- District 8 selection for their work on the court and in the classroom.  Rathke was selected to the Second Team while Wilson garnered Third Team honors.

The District 8, College Division into which NDNU falls, consists of NCAA Division II, II and NAIA schools in California, Oregon, Washington, Arizona, Utah, Nevada, Hawaii and Alaska.

Rathke, a senior forward from Snohomish, Washington currently has a 3.43 GPA and is majoring in Kinesiology.  She is also leading the Argos on the court, averaging 15.3 points, 11.6 rebounds, 2.1 blocks and 1.8 steals.  Rathke currently ranks fifth in the nation in rebounding and 31st in blocks.  She is also leading the PacWest Conference in blocks and is second in board and third in scoring.  Rathke has already set a school record with 13 double-doubles this season and is averaging 20.6 points and 12.6 boards over her last five games. 

Wilson, a senior guard from San Diego currently has a 3.89 GPA while majoring in Business Management.  She is fourth on the team in scoring with 8.0 points per game and is tied for first on the team with 35 3-pointers.  Wilson ranks third in the PacWest in 3-point field goal percentage at 41% and currently ranks second in school history in 3-pointers made.  She is also the school’s record holder with seven threes in a game.

The teams are voted on by members of CoSIDA. To qualify, student-athletes must hold at least sophomore status, own a minimum grade-point average (GPA) of 3.30, and be either a starter or key reserve for their team.

 

hArgos Return Home with Victory over Hawaii Pacific

February 8 – After 12 days off, the Notre Dame de Namur women’s basketball team returned to the hardwood with a 75-63 victory over Hawaii Pacific.  The Argos moved to 7-14 on the season while they improved their conference record to 4-5. 

NDNU started off the game hot, taking an early 20-11 lead after a 14-4 run.  The Sea Warriors cut the deficit to one late in the half as the Argos went into the break with a 33-32 advantage.  The Argos connected on 46% of their shots in the first while HPU made just 33% of their attempts. 

Forwards Britni Rathke, Tanaia Keyes and Jen Dreessen combined for 29 of the teams 33 first half points, including the first 23 points of the half.

The Argos pushed their lead to seven in the early going of the second half before eight straight points gave the Sea Warriors their second lead of the game.  However, Keyes knocked down a lay-up 15 seconds later and NDNU would never trail again.  The Argos scored the last seven points of the game to bring their margin in double digits.

Rathke recorded her 13th double-double of the year with 16 points and 17 rebounds.  She also added four blocks despite playing the entire second half with four fouls.  Keyes led all scored with 23 points and added five rebounds and three steals.  Ashley Wilson also reached double figures with 12 points, all coming in the second half. 

Tiffany Wilson led the Sea Warriors with 20 points and seven rebounds while connecting on 11-12 from the free throw line.  Mana Hopkins and Genesis Lewis also reached double figures with 12 and 11 points respectively. 

The Argos continue conference play this weekend when they travel to Phoenix to face Grand Canyon on Friday and Saturday.  BOX SCORE

 

hRathke’s Big Game Not Enough as Argos Fall to Dixie State

January 27 – Senior forward Britni Rathke’s career high 31 points was not enough as the Notre Dame de Namur women’s basketball team dropped a shootout with Dixie State 83-78.  The game between the two PacWest schools was counted as a non-conference game with the loss moving the Argos to 6-14 on the season.

The first half was back and forth throughout with five lead changes and six ties.  The Argos jumped out first with a 10-5 advantage before an 11-2 run put the Red Storm up by four.  NDNU then responded with eight straight points to take a four point lead of their own.  Dixie State then went on a run of their own with a 14-2 run before Esmeralda Lopez knocked down a 3-pointer in the final seconds to cut the NDNU deficit to two at the break. 

In the second half, the Red Storm scored seven of the first eight points and never looked back.  Dixie State inflated their lead to 19 points before a late Argonaut run cut it to six with 1:25 remaining.  However, the Red Storm’s offense came up with a few big buckets to seal the game. 

Rathke recorded her 12th double-double of the season with 16 rebounds to go with her career high 31 points.  She shot 10-19 from the field and hit 10-11 free throws while also picking up four blocks.  Tanaia Keyes added 19 points and four assists off the bench.

Shanae Vaifanua led three Red Storm players in double figures with 18 points and 11 rebounds.  Jessie Ingraham tacked on 12 points while Courtney Boyd registered 11 points and eight assists.

The Argos return home to face Hawaii Pacific on February 8th at Walter Gleason Gym.  BOX SCORE

 

hArgos Storm Past Vulcans

January 23 – The Notre Dame de Namur women’s basketball team poured in 53 second half points on their way to an 80-71 victory over Hawaii Hilo.  The Argos moved to 3-4 in PacWest play with the victory, while the Vulcans dropped to 2-4. 

The Argos struggled in the early going, falling behind Hawaii Hilo for much of the first half.  The Vulcans led by as many as nine before a late NDNU run tied the score at 25-25.  UHH led by one at the break thanks to a late 3-pointer by Hina Kimitete.

Both teams struggled a bit from the field in the half with the Argos shooting just 35% and the Vulcans connected on 41% of their shots. 

The second half was a different story as both teams shot over 50%, including a 66% conversion rate by NDNU.  The Argos made 19-29 shots in the half on their way to a 53 point half. 

The game stayed close through the first ten minutes of the second half before the Argos broke the game open with a 13-4 run.  NDNU connected on 15-19 free throws, including 7-8 in the final minute to ice the game. 

Britni Rathke led the Argos with 24 points, 18 of which came after the break.  Rathke made 8-9 shots in the second half and also pulled down seven rebounds.  Jennifer Dreessen and Tanaia Keyes tacked on 15 points and five rebounds apiece while Marianne Bautista recorded a double-double with 11 points, 10 assists, six rebounds and four steals.

Sheila Acevedo poured in a game high 29 points for the Vulcans and also grabbed six rebounds.  Kimitete also reached double figures with 11 points.

The Argos continue conference play on Monday when they take on Dixie State in St. George, Utah.  BOX SCORE

 

hArgos Finish 1-3 in Hawaii with Loss to BYU Hawaii

January 15 – The Notre Dame de Namur women’s basketball finished out their four game Hawaii road trip with a tough 69-61 loss to BYU Hawaii.  The Argos never led in the game but nearly overcame a double digit second half deficit. 

BYU Hawaii came out strong, opening the game up with a 12-2 run before ultimately going up by 17 with 8:26 remaining in the half.  The Argos close the margin to five at halftime after they found their shooting stroke from long distance.  Marianne Bautista knocked down a pair of treys while Kim Hom hit the Argonauts third 3-pointer of the season. 

The Seasiders once again came out firing, scoring the first nine points of the half to push their advantage up to 14.  After falling behind by 15, the Argos went on a run of their own, cutting the lead to four with 3:33 remaining.  BYU Hawaii quickly responded with a pair of buckets to put the game away for good.

The Argos were outrebounded 40-28 for the game and trailed 16-4 in free throws made.  NDNU committed just 13 tburnovers and shot 46% for the game, but made just 5-20 from beyond the arc.

Tanaia Keyes led the Argos with 16 points and five assists while Britni Rathke recorded her tenth double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds.  Bautista, Jen Dreessen and Ashley Wilson added eight points apiece.

Latoya Wily poured in a game high 24 points and grabbed 16 rebounds while Richelle Fenenbock tacked on 18 points and five assists.

Argos Stumble at Hawaii Pacific

January 15 – The Notre Dame de Namur women’s basketball team suffered another tough loss despite leading at the break, falling to Hawaii Pacific 67-61.  The Argos led by six at the break but could not hold off the Sea Warriors in the second. 

Hawaii Pacific came out clicking, taking an early 12-3 lead.  The Argos clawed their way back into the game and trailed by six with 9:22 remaining.  NDNU then rattled off nine straight points as part of a 16-4 run and took a six point advantage into halftime.

After a bucket to open the second gave the Argos an eight point lead, HPU scored eight in a row to tie the game at 31-31.  NDNU would go back ahead and lead until the final five minutes when an 11-0 Sea Warrior run gave the home team the lead for good.

Hawaii Pacific held a 23-10 free throw advantage for the game, including 17-5 in the second half.  Both teams shot under 40% for the game, but HPU’s 46% shooting in the second half helped ignite their comeback. 

Marianne Bautista poured in a career high 20 points to lead all scorers, hitting 8-9 from the field.  Britni Rathke recorded her ninth double-double of the year with 12 points, 17 rebounds and three steals. 

Mana Hopkins and Taylor Craig led four Sea Warriors in double figures with 14 points apiece while Tiffany Wilson and Paris Gravely added ten points each. 

The Argos close out their Hawaii road trip on Saturday when they take on BYU Hawaii in a Pacific West Conference game.  BOX SCORE

 

hArgos Topple Chaminade

January 13 – The Notre Dame de Namur women’s basketball team pulled even in conference play with a 67-51 victory over Chaminade.  The Argos never trailed in the game and opened up a 15 point halftime lead to cruise to victory.

The first half was all about defense as NDNU held the Swords to 27% shooting and 15 turnovers.  The Argos offense came out clicking as they opened up a ten point lead in the first two minutes after back-to-back threes from Ashley Wilson and Kim Hom.  NDNU used a 10-2 run later in the half to push their advantage to 15.

The Argonaut lead grew to 24 in the opening minutes of the second with an 11-2 run.  Chaminade was able to cut the margin down to 12 in the half, but were unable to close the gap any further. 

Britni Rathke scored a game high 23 points on 9-12 shooting and grabbed seven rebounds.  Hom turned in an excellent all-around game with 15 points, 7 rebounds, 7 assists and five steals while Wilson hit three 3-pointers on her way to 11 points.

Samantha Saito paced the Swords with 16 points while Jasmine Dulan added 14 points.

The Argos continue their Hawaii road trip on Thursday evening as they take on Hawaii Pacific.  BOX SCORE

 

hArgos Stumble in Second Half, Fall to Hawaii Hilo

January 10 – For the first 20 minutes the Notre Dame de Namur women’s basketball team looked to be on their way to a second PacWest win.  However, the Argos surrendered an eight point advantage to Hawaii Hilo and ultimately fell 56-47.

The game started out perfectly for the Vulcans as they scored the first eleven points of the contest.  The Argos then got their offense going as they used a 13-0 run to take the lead at 18-14.  After a brief tie at 18-18, NDNU scored 13 of the final 18 points to take a eight point margin into the break. 

The Argos limited the Vulcans to 24% shooting in the first, including 0-6 from 3-point range.  NDNU connected on 48% of their attempts and made 6-10 from beyond the arc.  

The second half was a completely different story as the Vulcans quickly cut the deficit to one point with 17:01 remaining.  After tying the score at 40-40 with ten minutes left, Hilo rattled off ten straight points to bust the game wide open. 

NDNU shot just 22% in the second half and connected on just one 3-pointer in ten attempts.  The Vulcans on the other hand made 50% of their field goals and forced the Argos into 18 turnovers.

Tanaia Keyes led NDNU with 11 points, five rebounds, four assists and three steals.  Marianne Bautista and Ashley Wilson added nine points each while Britni Rathke tacked on seven points and eight rebounds.

Sheila Azevedo paced three Vulcans in double figures with an 11 point, 10 rebound performance.  Jessica Hanato and Amanda Adams added ten points apiece. 

The Argos continue their Hawaii road trip on Tuesday when they take on Chaminade.  BOX SCORE

 

Big Second Half Leads to Argonaut Victory

January 6 – For the first 20 minutes the Notre Dame de Namur women’s basketball team struggled to stop Chaminade before erupting for a 44 point second half on their way to a 74-52 victory.  The Argos outscored the Swords by 29 points in the second half to improve to 1-1 in PacWest play and 4-9 overall.

The first half was all about Chaminade’s 3-point shooting as the Swords connected on 7-9 from long distance.  The visitors also hit all eight of their free throws and take a 37-30 lead into the break dispite committing 20 turnovers.

The Argos came out clicking in the second half, scoring the first 14 points and never looking back.  NDNU out rebounded the Swords 31-12 in the half and made 16 field goals.

Tanaia Keyes led all scorers with 24 points off the bench and added five rebounds, four assists and four steals.  Jennifer Dreessen tacked on a double-double with 12 points, 12 rebounds, three steals and two blocks.

Jasmine Dulan knocked down five 3-pointers, four of which came in the first half, to lead Chaminade with 19 points.

The Argos are off to Hawaii for four conference games starting with Hawaii Hilo on January 10th.  BOX SCORE

 

hLate Three Lifts Grand Canyon over NDNU

January 3 – The Notre Dame de Namur women’s basketball team dropped a heartbreaker to Grand Canyon on a late 3-pointer by Jacque Stevens.  The Argos and Antelopes struggled to make baskets all night long as the game ended with a score of 43-42.

The first half was controlled early by NDNU with Tanaia Keyes hitting a pair of threes to push the score to 12-5.  With the Argos leading by two at 16-14, Grand Canyon answered back with 12 straight points to go ahead by ten.  NDNU responded with the final two baskets of the half to head into the break down 26-20.

In the second, both teams struggled mightily with the Antelopes hitting just 19% from the field and the Argos committing 11 turnovers.  The spread stayed around four points until the final three minutes when Keyes hit a pair of free throws to give NDNU a one point lead with 2:33 remaining. 

Samantha Murphy then broke a five minute scoring drought to put the Antelopes up by two with 1:53 left.  Keyes brought the Argos back once again with back-to-back baskets to put NDNU up by two with 41 seconds remaining.  After a missed shot, Grand Canyon ran a perfect inbounds play that left Stevens wide open for the go-ahead three.  She knocked down the triple with 13 seconds to give the visitors the win. 

Keyes led all players with 20 points on the game while Britni Rathke recorded her eighth double-double of the season with 10 points, 11 rebounds, four assists, five blocks and four steals.  Jennifer Dreesen grabbed ten rebounds and added six points.

Rosalyn Nelson and Samantha Murphy both reached double figures for Grand Canyon, scoring 14 and 12 points respectively.  They also combined four 14 rebounds, seven steals and six assists.

HArgos Drop Conference Opener to Grand Canyon

January 2 – The Notre Dame de Namur women’s basketball team fell in their 2009 PacWest opener to defending champion Grand Canyon.  The Argos fell hung tight for most of the game before the Antelopes pushed ahead in the second half to win 72-59.

The first half was controlled by the Antelopes as they built an early 11 point lead.  The Argos cut the lead to three with 2:30 left but headed into the break trailing by six.  GCU shot 48% in the first half and made four 3-pointers while NDNU managed to hit just 34% of their attempts. 

After the Antelopes scored the first bucket of the second half, NDNU responded with seven straight points to cut the deficit to one.  However, that would be as close as the Argonauts would get.  The ‘Lopes used a late 13-2 run to bust the game open.

Grand Canyon hit all 14 of their free throws and shot 49% for the game while NDNU made 40% of their field goals.

Jennifer Dreessen scored a season high 21 points while Britni Rathke recorded her seventh double-double of the season with 12 points, 12 rebounds and five steals.  Ashley Wilson hit 4-5 from 3-point range to finish with 12 points and Kim Hom dished out a career high nine assists.

Rosalyn Nelson paced the Antelopes with 19 points, four assists and four steals while Samantha Murphy scored 16 points and added nine rebounds and five assists.

These two team square off again tomorrow night for their second of four meeting on the season.  BOX SCORE

 

hRathke Lifts Argos over Academy of Art

December 17 – Senior forward Britni Rathke turned in one of the best games in school history, becoming just the second player at NDNU to record at least 20 points and 20 rebounds in the same game.  Rathke dominated the game at both ends with a 28 points and 20 rebounds performance while the Argonauts downed the Academy of Art 73-60. 

The first half was tight throughout with the Urban Knights taking an early six point lead but were unable to increase the margin.  NDNU closed the half on a 8-0 run to take a two point lead into the break.  The Argonauts shot just 37% in the half but limited AAU to 34% shooting and 15 turnovers.

The Argos picked up where they left off, scoring 12 of the first 17 points in the second half to go up by nine.  However, the Urban Knights rallied back with eleven straight points to take a two point advantage.  The score remained close until the final minutes when the Argos went on 16-2 run to bust the game wide open.

In addition to Rathke’s 20-20 game, she also added four blocks and three steals while hitting 13-23 from the field.  Jen Dreessen added a season high 16 points while Kim Hom tacked on 11 points and four assists.  Leading scorer Tanaia Keyes struggled from the field but dished out seven assists and recorded two blocks.

Sondra Stilwell paced the Urban Knights with 21 points, six assists and five rebounds while Levalasi Key added ten points and six rebounds.

hRathke Named PacWest Player of the Week

December 15 - Notre Dame de Namur senior forward Britni Rathke earned Pacific West Conference Player of the Week honors after a 14 point, 18 rebound performance in a two-point loss to San Francisco State.

Rathke added three blocks and two steals to her career high 18 rebounds while posting her fifth double-double of the season.  She is averaging 13.4 points and 11.1 rebounds on the year and is first in the conference with 2.1 blocks per game.

In addition to Rathke, Jen Dreessen, Kim Hom, Tanaia Keyes and Ashley Wilson were all named to the PacWest Weekly Honor Roll. 

 

hArgos Rally Falls Short at San Francisco State

December 9 – The Notre Dame de Namur women’s basketball team nearly erased an 18 point second half deficit before falling to San Francisco State 58-56.  The Argos found themselves in a deep hole half way through the second, but fought their way back to within two in the closing seconds.

NDNU started the game off strong, leading by four at 16-12.  However, the Gators closed the first half with a 16-5 run to take a six point lead into the break.  For the half, the Argos shot just 38% and committed 13 turnovers but stayed close after holding SFSU to just 35% shooting. 

The second half continued with the Gators building their lead as it peaked at 18 points with 9:53 remaining.  NDNU then began chipping away as Tanaia Keyes and Ashley Wilson knocked down back-to-back 3-pointers to cut the lead to 11.  Wilson would hit another three with three minutes to go before Kim Hom 3-pointer with 42 seconds left cut the NDNU deficit to two. 

That would be as close as the Argonauts would get as Desiree Butler hit three of four free throws in the final seconds to seal the game.

Britni Rathke recorded her fifth double-double on the season with 14 points and a career high 18 rebounds.  She also added three blocks and two steals.  Hom and Wilson combined for 21 points on 7-8 shooting from three.  Keyes also reached double figures for NDNU with 10 points, six rebounds, five assists and four steals.

ZaLisha Oliver turned in a double-double for the Gators with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

The Argos close out their non-conference schedule next Wednesday, December 17th when Academy of Art comes to Walter Gleason Gym for a 5:30 pm tip.  BOX SCORE

 

hArgos Split at Dixie State Tournament

December 6 – The Notre Dame de Namur women’s basketball team rebounded from a tough loss on Friday night to rally back and defeat Western New Mexico 86-81.  The Argos fell 82-68 to Mesa State on Friday night, but used a big second half to down WNMU and earn their second win of the season.

On Friday, NDNU never led as Mesa State shot 49% from the field to build a double digit advantage.  The Argos hit just 35% of their shots, including 5-21 from beyond the arc.  Britini Rathke turned in another double-double with 14 points, 10 rebounds, four assists and four steals.  Kim Hom added 15 points and eight rebounds off the bench while Tanaia Keyes recorded 12 points and three blocks.  BOX SCORE

The Argos regained their shooting touch on Saturday as they hit 43% of their attempts and held a 33-22 free throw advantage.  NDNU came out gunning, taking an early 12 point lead before Western New Mexico stormed back and led by four at the break.

The game remained back and forth in the second half as there were 14 ties and 16 lead changes in the contest.  With NDNU leading by one with nine minutes remaining, WNMU ripped off a 12-2 run to take a nine point advantage with five to play.

The Argos refused to go away as a jumper by Keyes and three straight lay-ups by Jennifer Dreessen evened the score at 79-79 with 2:34 left.  After a free throw gave Western New Mexico the lead with 1:26 to play, Keyes nailed a 3-pointer to put NDNU up for good.

Keyes scored a career high 30 points on the night, 25 of which came in the second half.  She hit 7-13 shots from the field and made 14-16 from the charity stripe.  Keyes also added five steals, three assists and three rebounds.  Rathke just missed a double-double with 15 points and nine rebounds while Hom added nine points, seven rebounds and four assists.

NDNU is back in action on Tuesday night when they face San Francisco State on the road.  BOX SCORE

 

hArgos Stumble at CSU Stanislaus

November 29 – After jumping out to a big first half lead, the Notre Dame de Namur women’s basketball could not hold off CSU Stanislaus and fell 74-66.  The Argos led by as many as 22 in the opening half before the Warriors stormed back to take the game.

NDNU opened up the game with a 19-2 run in the first eight minutes as Ashley Wilson and Tanaia Keyes combined for 11 of the points.  The Argos hot shooting continued as Keyes’s 3-pointer with 8:31 remaining pushed the margin to 22.  The Warriors managed to cut the lead to twelve at the break as the Argos started getting into foul trouble.

The foul issues continued in the second half as three Argos were sent to the bench with four personals.  CSU Stanislaus took advantage of the opportunity and went on a 17-6 run to take their first lead of the game.  Over the final ten minutes, the two teams battled back and forth with nine lead changes before the Warriors pulled ahead for good in the final two minutes.

Tanaia Keyes paced the Argonauts with 18 points, four rebounds, five steals, three blocks and four 3-pointers while Britni Rathke added 15 points and eight rebounds.  Ashley Wilson scored 14 points and 4-8 shooting from the behind the arc.

Gwendolyn Page led all players with 20 points and added eight rebounds while Katie Busi chipped in a double-double with 11 points and 14 rebounds.  Lysandra Williams and Christin Gowan also reached double figures with 12 and 10 points respectively. 

The Argos are back in action next weekend as they travel to Utah to face Mesa State and Western New Mexico at the Dixie State Tournament.  BOX SCORE

 

hArgos Drop Tough One to CSU Monterey Bay

November 28 – The Notre Dame de Namur women’s basketball team fell just short of picking up their second win, falling 67-65 to CSU Monterey Bay.  The Argos were outscored by a point in each half and could not hold a double digit lead to move to 1-4 on the season.

The first ten minutes were back and forth with each team taking a lead before the Otters forged ahead by seven.  The Argos fought their way back and took the lead with just over a minute to play.  CSUMB then hit a pair of free throws to take a one point advantage into the break.

The Argos came out firing in the second half as they opened up 12 point lead with a 17-4 run.  The Otters clawed their was back in and managed to take a one point lead with 2:23 left to play.  Tanaia Keyes gave NDNU the lead once again with just over a minute left before Dana Andrews hit a pair of free throws with 58 second left to give Monterey Bay the win. 

NDNU shot 44% from the field and held the Otters to 36% shooting.  However, the difference in the game was the 14-2 offensive rebound advantage by CSUMB. 

Tanaia Keyes paced three Argonauts in double figures with 20 points and five rebounds.  Ashley Wilson and Britini Rathke tacked on 14 and 13 points respectively while Marianne Bautista finished with six points, seven assists and six rebounds.

Janet Oseguera poured in a game high 23 points and 10 rebounds while Dana Andrews added 15 points and seven rebounds.

The Argos are back in action tomorrow night as they face tournament host CSU Stanislaus at 2:30 pm.  BOX SCORE

 

hArgos Suffer Loss to Saint Martin’s

November 22 – For the second straight game, the Notre Dame de Namur women’s basketball team suffered a setback at the Phoenix Inn DII Shootout.  The Argos fell behind early and could not overcome a double digit halftime lead in a 77-63 loss to Saint Martin’s.

The Saints took a ten point lead into the break thanks in large part to 44% shooting in the first half.  In the second, Saint Martin’s started the half with seven straight points and never looked back, building their lead to as many as 18. 

The Argos shot 41% in the second half but the difference in the game was the 17 of 18 from the charity stripe by the Saints. 

Ashley Wilson scored a game high 17 points to lead four Argonauts in double figures.  She hit 7-11 from the field, including three 3-pointers.  Britni Rathke recorded her third straight double-double with 12 points and 14 rebounds and also added three steals and two blocks.  Rachel Brunson scored a career high 12 points while Tanaia Keyes tacked on 10 points and seven assists.

Michelle Short paced four Saints in double figures with 17 while Dara Zack added 12 points and 12 rebounds. 

NDNU is back in action next weekend when they head to Turlock for the CSU Stanislaus Tournament.  BOX SCORE

 

hArgos Fall to Western Oregon

November 21 – The Notre Dame de Namur women’s basketball struggled to get going in a 85-53 loss to Western Oregon.  The Argos could not find their shot, hitting just 36% from the field and committing 27 turnovers. 

In addition to NDNU’s poor shooting night, the Wolves made matters worse by hitting 12 of 20 three-point shots and holding a 21-4 free throw advantage.  The first half was all Western Oregon as the home team closed the half on an 11-2 run to go ahead by 15 at the break.

Things did not get much better for NDNU in the second as the Wolves scored ten unanswered points to push their lead to 30 points.

Tanaia Keyes once again led the Argos on offense with 17 points off the bench and knocked down three from behind the arc.  Britni Rathke recorded her second straight double-double with 15 point and 11 rebounds while adding four blocks.

Katie Torland paced three Wolves in double figures with 24 points and nine rebounds while Danielle Bellando and Alissa Brasel scored 13 and 11 points respectively.

The Argos are back in action tomorrow for their second and final game of the Phoenix Inn Division II Shootout against St. Martin’s.  BOX SCORE

 

hArgos Rally Back to Topple Cal Poly Pomona

November 16 – The Notre Dame de Namur women’s basketball team overcame a big first half deficit to rally back and defeat Cal Poly Pomona 59-54.  The Argos used excellent defense and timely shooting to earn their first victory of the season. 

The Broncos started the game hot and took a ten point lead at 26-16 with just over eight minutes remaining in the first.  However, the Argos responded, shutting down Cal Poly Pomona and scoring the final nine points of the half to go up by two at the break.  Britni Rathke keyed the defensive charge with four first half blocks and a pair of steals. 

The second half was back and forth throughout with the Broncos taking the largest lead at 51-46 with three minutes remaining.  NDNU once again responded as Tanaia Keyes hit back-to-back threes to give the Argos a one point lead.  Rathke then hit a pair of jumpers to move the lead to five before Keyes iced the game from the free throw line. 

The Argos held Cal Poly Pomona to 32% shooting for the game, including just 2-9 shooting from three-point range.  NDNU shot 41% from the field but connected on seven threes. 

Rathke earned NDNU Tip-Off Classic MVP honors after turning in a stellar all-around game.  She finished with 12 points, 16 rebounds, six blocks, three assists and three steals while shutting down the Broncos post players.  Keyes was selected to the All-Tournament Team after finishing with a career high 25 points. 

Ally Smith paced the Broncos with 18 points and seven rebounds while Megan Ford grabbed 11 boards. 

The Argos are back in action next weekend when they travel to Western Oregon for the Wolves Tournament.  BOX SCORE

 

Buzzer Beater Highlights Day 2 of NDNU Tip-Off Classic

November 16 – Maria Weigelt listed the University of Mary over Humboldt State as she drove the length of the court in the final four seconds and hit a runner in the lane as the buzzer sounded.  The Marauders overcame several second half deficits to storm back and take the game 65-64.

The two teams went into the break knotted at 31-31 before the Jacks took the lead early in the second half with a 14-4 run.  After the lead swelled to twelve with 6:46 remaining, the Marauders ripped off eleven straight points to pull within one.

Mary could still not get over the hump until Sonny Schulz tied the game at 63-63 on a 3-pointer with 11 seconds left.  Paige Peterson put Humboldt State up by one with a free throw with four second left before Weigelt lifted the Marauders to victory with her buzzer beater.

Schulz led all players with 29 points and nine rebounds off the bench while Peterson paced three Jacks in double figures with 18. BOX SCORE

In the early game, Western Oregon toppled CSU Monterey Bay 71-57 thanks in large part to a 19-1 run to close out the first half.

The Wolves held a 22-6 free throw advantage and out rebounded the Otters 51-38.

Katie Torland led all players with 26 points and 15 rebounds while Shayla Corder added 13 points.  Helen Suarez was one of four Otters in double figures, finishing with 10 points, seven assists, six rebounds and five steals.  BOX SCORE

CCAA Teams Sweep Opening Day of NDNU Tip-Off Classic

November 15 – The California Collegiate Athletic Association had a good day as all three teams from the conference won their games.  CSU Monterey Bay took home the victory in a double overtime shootout while Cal Poly Pomona and Humboldt State had easier times in the victories at the NDNU Tip-Off Classic.

In the early game, CSUMB overcame an early deficit to University of Mary to force overtime.  The game then went into double overtime before the Otters pulled away to earn the 95-87 victory.  The two teams battled throughout the physical game that saw 17 ties, 18 lead changes, 71 fouls and 94 free throws.

With the Marauders up by one with just four second left in regulation, Dana Andrews hit one of two free throws to send the game into overtime.  In the first overtime, Mary took and early four point lead, but soon found themselves down two with less than 30 seconds left.  However, Sonny Schulz hit a pair of clutch free throws to force a second overtime. 

The second overtime was all CSU Monterey Bay as the Otters opened up with a 10-2 run to put the game out of reach. 

Andrews finished with a game high 27 points while Helen Suarez had a terrific all-around game to record 24 points, eight rebounds, six assists and six steals.  Suarez also hit 20 of 25 free throws and registered a block.

Liz Sipma paced four Marauders in double figures with 19 points.  Schulz scored 16 points and dished out seven assists off the bench while Anna Skala and Abby Reiter tacked on 14 and 10 respectively.  BOX SCORE

The second game appeared to be header for another nail biter as Cal Poly Pomona and Western Oregon battled back and forth in the first half.  The Broncos took a two point lead into the break before busting the game wide open in the second. 

CPP opened up the second period with a 16-4 run and never looked back on their way to a 77-64 victory.  The Broncos shot 47% for the game and held a 23-8 free throw advantage that proved to be the difference.

The Wolves hung tough for the first half, thanks in large part to their 5-11 shooting from behind the arc.  However, they struggled in the second half, making just one in 14 attempts.

Megan Ford led all players with 26 points and nine rebounds while Ally Smith and Unique Anderson combined for 22 points and 14 rebounds.

Katie Torland led Western Oregon with 16 points and six rebounds with Shayla Corder grabbing a game high ten boards.  BOX SCORE

The final game of the tournament was controlled by Humboldt State as they toppled host NDNU 96-65.  The Jacks came out of the gate firing, taking a 15-5 lead early in the contest.  The Argos did their best to hang around, but struggled from the field in the first half, hitting just 9 of 28 shots. 

Humboldt State shot 54% in the first to take a 49-25 lead into the break.  The Argos improved their play in the second half, scoring 40 points on 52% shooting but could not get any closer to the visitors. 

Katie Franci hit 9 of 12 shots to lead all players with 21 points while Bree Halsey racked up a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.  Taylor Kigore shot 5-6 from three-point range to score 19 points and Sallye Alexander tacked on 16 points and seven boards.

Three Argonauts scored in double figures, led by Kim Hom’s 14 point debut.  Hom also added four assists and a steal.  Tanaia Keyes and Britni Rathke each added 11 points. 

The NDNU Tip-Off Classic will come to a close tomorrow as three more games are on the slate, starting with CSU Monterey Bay against Western Oregon at 1:00 pm.  BOX SCORE

 

hDreessen Named Preseason All-PacWest

October 31 – NDNU junior forward Jennifer Dreessen was selected to the Pacific West Preseason All-Conference team for the second straight season.  The Argos were picked to finish fifth this season after coming in second place last year behind Grand Canyon.

The Argos return four of their top five scorers including Dreessen who finished second on the team with 9.0 points per game.  Dreessen also led the team with 7.1 rebounds, a 53% field goal percentage and finished second in steals with 39.  She ranked second in the PacWest in field goal percentage and third in rebounds. 

Dreessen, a forward from Danville earned Second Team All-Conference last season after garnering Honorable Mention status as a freshman.

NDNU opens the season on November 15th against Humboldt State at the NDNU Tip-Off Classic. 

 

hhHhNDNU Names Mike Rudder Head Women’s Basketball Coach

BELMONT, CA (August 13, 2008) – The Notre Dame de Namur athletic department has named Mike Rudder as its new head women’s basketball coach. 

Rudder, an assistant with the NDNU men’s team and head coach of women’s tennis will take over for Jessica Mazeau who left the program after last season. 

“I am extremely excited about the opportunity I have been given here.” Rudder said.  “I know the school and community very well and feel that I can continue to help this program grow. 

The Argos went 13-13 last season but compiled a 13-5 conference record and finished second in the Pacific West.  Rudder takes over a team that returns four of their top five scorers as well as their three leading rebounders.  Tanaia Keyes and Jennifer Dreessen both return after earning All-PacWest honors last season.

“We have a great group of players returning.” Rudder said. “I think we are in a great position to make another run at the conference title.”

Rudder has been coaching in the Bay Area for over 25 years  The last seven have been as an assistant with the NDNU men’s basketball team were he was primarily responsible for player development at the guard positions and recruiting. 

Prior to NDNU, Rudder spent eight years at various high schools in San Jose.  He was the boy’s head varsity coach at San Jose High Academy from 1993-1995 and 1997-2000 where he led the team to two conference championships.  From 1995-1997, Rudder was the head coach at Leland High School.  His other coaching experiences came as assistants at Willow Glen HS and Los Gatos HS.

Rudder played at De Anza College and Wenatchee Valley College in Washington before moving on to play at Sacramento State University.  At Sacramento State, he helped the team win the Far West Conference Championship in 1978. 

“We are all excited that Coach Rudder is taking over the women’s basketball program.” Athletic Director Josh Doody said. “He is a positive influence for our student athletes and knows the community very well.”

 

Three Argos Garner Conference Honors

March 11 – The Notre Dame de Namur women’s basketball team capped off their 2007-08 season with three players earning All-Pacific West Conference honors.  Tanaia Keyes became the first NDNU player to earn First Team All-PacWest honors while Corazon Riley and Jennifer Dreessen received Second Team recognition. 

hKeyes, a junior forward from Seattle was named First Team All-PacWest after finishing third on the team in scoring and second in rebounding.  For the season, Keyes averaged 8.9 points and 4.4 rebounds but stepped it up in conference play to 11.0 points, 5.1 rebounds and 2.0 assists.  She was at her best over the final six games, leading the Argos to a 4-2 record and averaging 15.8 points, 6.3 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 1.5 three-pointers per game.  Keyes saved her best performance for the two must win games to close out the season.  She scored a career high 22 points against Dixie State to give NDNU sole possession of second place and followed it up with 17 points and 10 rebounds in the final game against Chaminade. 

hRiley, a senior guard from Antioch received Second Team All-PacWest honors after leading the team in scoring, steals and three-pointers while finishing second in assists.  Riley averaged 9.9 points, 2.7 assists, 2.2 steals and made 51 three-pointers on the season.  In conference play, she upped those averages to 11.6 points, 3.2 assists, 2.4 steals and over two three-pointers per game.  Riley scored in double figures 11 times, including four games of 20 points or more.  She poured in a career high 25 points and added six assists and four steals in a January 3rd victory over BYU Hawaii.  Riley concluded her career at NDNU as the career leader in steals and finished second all-time in assists.

hDreessen, a sophomore forward from Danville earned All-PacWest honors for the second straight year.  She was to the Second Team this year after earning Honorable Mention status last season.  Dreessen finished second on the team in scoring with 9.0 per game while leading the team in rebounding (7.1) and field goal percentage (53%).  She ranked third in the conference in rebounding and second in field goal percentage.  Dreessen reached double figures in scoring nine times and rebound in six games.  She also recorded three double-doubles, including a 14 point-14 rebound performance against Hawaii Hilo on January 25th.  Dreessen registered a career high 23 points and added nine rebounds in a victory over Dixie State on February 1st.

The Argos concluded the season in second place in the Pacific West with a 13-5 conference record.

hKeyes Named Pacific West Player of the Week

March 3 – Junior guard Tanaia Keyes was chosen as the PacWest Player of the Week for the final week of the season, February 25-March 2.  Keyes led the Argos to a 2-0 week with victories over Dixie State on Wednesday and Chaminade on Saturday.  With the wins, NDNU clinched second place in the conference with a 13-5 record.

Keyes averaged a conference high 19.5 points per game and added 8.0 rebounds per game.  She made 87.5% of her free throw attempts (14-16) and averaged 1.5 steals per game. 

The Argos broke a tie for second place with Dixie State with 65-58 victory over the Rebels on Wednesday.  Keyes led all players with 22 points off the bench and added six rebounds.  She made 11-12 free throws and broke a 44-44 tie with 10 straight NDNU points. 

On Saturday, Keyes recorded her first career double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds.  She scored 14 of her points in the second half and added three steals to lead the Argos past Chaminade 82-60.

Keyes is the second Argo to win Player of the Week this season with Jennifer Dreessen earning the honor on February 4.

Seniors Cory Riley and Darice Murray along with junior Britni Rathke were also selected to the PacWest Weekly Honor Roll this past week. 

Riley averaged 17.0 points per game, shot 53% from the field and averaged 3.0 three-pointers per game.  Murray started both games at forward and ended the week with averages of 9.5 points, 6.5 rebounds, 3.0 steals and 2.0 steals.  Rathke finished with 15.0 points per game, 9.0 rebounds, 3.0 blocks and shot 60% from the field.

 

hRiley Shines on Senior Night, Argos Clinch Second Place

March 1 – In her final game as an Argonaut, senior guard Cory Riley poured in 22 points to lead the Notre Dame de Namur women’s basketball team to an 82-60 victory.  The Argos used a huge second half to race past the Swords.  NDNU also clinched second place in the PacWest with the win and end the season with a 13-5 conference record.

The first half was close throughout with Chaminade leading most of the way after shooting 50% for the half.  The Swords built their margin to as many as seven in the final minutes before the Argos closed it to one to end the half.

In the second the Argos pushed ahead but Chaminade would not go away, keeping it within five points.  However, NDNU ended the game on a 24-4 run in the final seven and half minutes to earn the victory.  The Argos shot 46% in the half and forced 23 Chaminade turnovers.

To go along with her team high 22 points, Riley added four three-pointers and six steals.  Britni Rathke added a career high 21 points, nine rebounds, four blocks and three steals while Tanaia Keyes recorded a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds. 

The four other NDNU also made their presence felt, with Darice Murray finishing with 10 points and eight rebounds.  Ramona Vae picked up four steals while Tamar Savazian scored a pair of big baskets in the second half and Ashley Cavalieri knocked down a three for the Argos first points.

Simrin Cummins scored a game high 25 points for Chaminade to go along with nine rebounds.  BOX SCORE

 

hArgos to be Featured on CSTV Broadband Webcast

February 29 - On Saturday, March 1, the Notre Dame de Namur University men and women's basketball teams will close out their 2007-08 season with a doubleheader against Chaminade University.  The doubleheader will be captured live and webcasted by the College Sports Television (CSTV) at CSTV.com.  The games are part of the network's national broadband video webcast package partnership with NCAA Division II.

The NDNU women can clinch second place in the Pacific West with a victory over the Swords while the men look to clinch fifth place with a win over the Conference Champions.

Action gets kicked off with the women's game at 5:30 pm.  The men's game will follow at 7:30 pm

Saturday will also feature senior day for the two programs, with the women honoring five seniors and the men honoring seven.

hArgos Defeat Dixie, Take Sole Possession of Second Place

February 27 – The Notre Dame de Namur women’s basketball team won the battle between second place teams with a 65-58 victory over Dixie State.  The Argos completed the season sweep of the Rebels and moved into sole possession of second place in the PacWest with a 12-5 record.

NDNU jumped on the Rebels early, taking an 18-7 lead with 8:24 left in the first half.  Dixie answered with seven straight points before the Argos eventually took a five point lead into the break.

After the Rebels cut the lead to three to open the second, NDNU answered with 11 straight points to take a 14 point advantage.  However, Dixie State responded with a 17-2 run and took a one point lead with 8:26 left. 

With the score tied 44-44, junior Tanaia Keyes ripped off 10 straight NDNU points to put the Argos up for good.  Dixie shot just 31% for the game while the Argos hit 46% of their shots. 

Keyes led all players with 22 points, including 16 in the second half and added six rebounds.  Cory Riley tacked on 12 while Sandy Perry, Britni Rathke and Darice Murray each scored nine points.  Rathke also finished with nine rebounds and Murray came up with five steals.

Jessica Carver recorded a double-double for the Rebels, finishing with 21 points and 11 rebounds.

hArgos Struggle in Second Half, Fall to Grand Canyon

February 23 – After a back and forth first half, the Notre Dame de Namur women’s basketball team struggled in the second before falling to Grand Canyon 65-44.  The Argos moved to 11-5 in conference play while GCU clinched the PacWest title.

The first half remained close throughout, with the lead changing five times.  The Antelopes started strong out of the gate, but NDNU scored nine straight points to take a 16-12 lead.  However, Grand Canyon ripped off an 8-1 run and took a two point margin into the break.

The Argos struggled from the start in the second half as the ‘Lopes opened the period with an 18-5 run to push the difference to 13.  NDNU managed to cut the lead to nine before GCU made their free throws down the stretch to pull away. 

NDNU shot 28% for the game, including just 22% in the second half but stayed in the game by forcing 28 turnovers.

Tanaia Keyes came off the bench to lead the Argos in scoring with 17 points.  Jennifer Dreessen added six points and four steals while Britni Rathke grabbed nine rebounds.

Samantha Murphy led three Antelopes in double figures with 23 points and added nine rebounds and four assists.  Kristi Girdley added 12 while Stacy Haddow finished with 10 points and 10 rebounds.  Ashley Hardin led all players with 13 rebounds.

The Argos play their final road game of the year on Wednesday when they travel to St. George, Utah to face Dixie State. BOX SCORE

 

HArgos Topple Hawaii Pacific

February 16 – The Notre Dame de Namur women’s basketball team closed out their Hawaii road trip with a 70-55 victory over HPU.  The Argos improved to 11-4 in conference play and went 4-2 in games played in Hawaii.

The first half was close throughout with each team taking leads in the final minutes.  The Argos finished the half strong and took a 30-28 margin into halftime. 

In the second half, NDNU’s defense took over, holding the Sea Warriors to 19% shooting.  The Argos on the other hand hit 44% of their shots, including five three-pointers.

Jennifer Dreessen led the Argonauts with 13 points while Tanaia Keyes also reached double figures with 10 points, five rebounds and five assists.  Ramona Vae just missed a double-double, finishing with eight points and 11 rebounds. 

A day after scoring 37 points, Ashley Jenkins was held to 10 points on 3-19 shooting.  Karras Blate tacked on 10 points while Angela Spence and Emily Kruetter grabbed 11 and 10 rebounds respectively.

hBig Second Half Dooms Argos

February 15 – The Notre Dame de Namur women’s basketball team could not continue their winning ways, falling to Hawaii Pacific 82-60.  The Argos moved to 10-4 in conference and remain in second place while HPU evened their record at 7-7.

The Argos stayed close in the first half, trailing 38-34 despite shooting just 38% from the field.  However, the Sea Warriors took over to start the second half, opening with a 26-3 run to put the game out of reach.  HPU shot 52% in the half while NDNU was held to 29% shooting.

Tanaia Keyes led the Argos with 13 points and six rebounds while Jennifer Dreessen just missed a double-double with nine points and ten rebounds.  Cory Riley finished with a team season high six steals.

Ashley Jenkins poured in a career high 37 points on 14-20 shooting and grabbed six rebounds.  Jocelyn Norris added 12 points and eight rebounds.

HArgos Keep Rolling, Outlast BYU Hawaii

February 13 – The Notre Dame de Namur women’s basketball team continued their winning way, toppling BYU Hawaii 68-61.  The Argos have won nine of their last ten games and improved to 10-3 in the PacWest with the victory.

BYU Hawaii took an early lead at 6-4 before the Argos ripped off an 11-4 run and never looked back.  NDNU led for the final 36 minutes and did not allow the Seasiders to cut the lead below five in the second half. 

The Argos shot just 41% from the field for the game, but forced BYU Hawaii into 31 turnovers.  NDNU also held an 8-4 advantage from beyond the arc.

Cory Riley knocked down four three-pointers on her way to a team high 20 points.  She also added four steals while Jennifer Dreessen picked up five steals.  Tanaia Keyes also reached double figures for the Argos with 16 points.

Agnes Tuilevuka led the Seasiders with 20 points and nine rebounds while Richelle Fenenbock tacked on 15 points.

hArgos Rebound, Defeat Grand Canyon

February 7 – A day after Grand Canyon snapped the Argonauts seven game winning streak the Notre Dame de Namur women’s basketball team rebounded with a 56-52 victory over the first place Antelopes. 

The Argos improved to 9-3 in conference play and moved within half a game of GCU for first place.

NDNU was hot from downtown with 15 of their 20 field goals coming from behind the 3-point line.  The Argos also played excellent defense, holding the ‘Lopes to just 33% shooting. 

Grand Canyon took an early 13-7 lead before NDNU rallied back to take a three point margin into the break.  The Argos started strong in the second, pushing the difference to six points in the opening minutes.  However, after the Antelopes took the lead at 40-38, NDNU rattled off a 12-2 run to take over the game for good.

Ashley Wilson set a career high with seven 3-pointers on her way to a game high 21 points.  Sandy Perry also reached double figures with 11 points and five assists while Jennifer Dreessen grabbed 13 rebounds. 

Samantha Murphy and Rosalyn Nelson led the Antelopes with 15 and 12 points respectively.

The Argos look to move into first place next week when they travel to Hawaii for three games.  BOX SCORE

 

 HGrand Canyon Snaps Argos Win Streak

February 6 – The Notre Dame de Namur women’s basketball team had their seven game winning streak snapped with a 67-52 loss to first place Grand Canyon.  The Argos remain in second place with a 8-3 conference record while the ‘Lopes improved to 10-2.

NDNU came out strong in the first half leading most of the way before taking a three point lead into the break.  The Argos shot just 40% in the half but knocked down five threes while holding the ‘Lopes to 35% shooting. 

The Argos continued to lead through the first nine minutes of the second building their margin to as many as seven.  However, the tide started to change with ten minutes remaining as the ‘Lopes ran off a 22-3 run to take a 14 point lead.

Cory Riley led the Argos with a team high 14 points and five assists.  She also hit four 3-pointers while Tanaia Keyes and Ashley Wilson each added eight points.

Four Antelopes reached double figures led by Samantha Murphy’s 18 points.  Ashley Hardin turned in a double-double with 15 points and 15 rebounds while Rosalyn Nelson added 12 points, six assists, five rebounds and seven steals.  Jacque Stevens tacked on 17 points and six rebounds. 

These two teams battle again tomorrow night at 5:30 pm with the Argos trying to pull back within half a game of Grand Canyon.  BOX SCORE

 

hDreessen Named Pacific West Player of the Week

February 4 – Sophomore forward Jennifer Dreessen was chosen as the PacWest Player of the Week for the week of January 28 – February 3.  Dreessen led the Argos to a 2-0 week with victories over Dixie State on Friday and Saturday.  The two wins moved the Argos into sole possession of second place with an 8-2 record.

Dreessen averaged 15.0 points, 8.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists for the week and shot 67% from the field. 

The Argos defeated Dixie State 65-60 on Friday with Dreessen scoring a game high 23 points and grabbing nine rebounds.  She shot 11-15 from the field and scored 14 of her 23 points in the second half. 

On Saturday, the Argos stormed past Dixie State 66-54 behind an excellent all-around game from Dreessen.  She finished with seven points, seven rebounds and a career high five assists. 

NDNU is back in action Wednesday and Thursday night against first place Grand Canyon.  The Argos are currently half a game behind the Antelopes.

 

hArgos Keep Rolling, Win Seventh Straight

February 2 – The Notre Dame de Namur women’s basketball team stayed hot, winning their seventh straight game and improving to 8-2 in PacWest play.  The Argos defeated Dixie State for the second straight night, outlasting the Rebels 66-54.

The first half remained tight into the final minutes before NDNU ran off six straight points to take a ten point margin.  Dixie State closed out the first with a pair of buckets to send the game into the break at 29-23.

The Rebels could not manage to take the lead in the second as every run was answered by the Argos.  After DSC cut the deficit to two with eight minutes left, NDNU rattled off seven straight to provide some breathing room.  Down the stretch, the Argos hit their free throws to put the Rebels away.

The Argos shot 51% for the game while holding Dixie State to just 33% shooting.  NDNU also held a 25-16 free throw advantage and made 18-21 from the charity stripe in the second half.

NDNU’s three leading scorers came off the bench with Tanaia Keyes leading all players with 15 points.  Ashley Wilson tacked on 12 with Britni Rathke adding nine points and six rebounds.  Jennifer Dreessen had seven points, seven rebounds, five assists and two steals.

Jessica Carver paced the Rebels with 12 points and seven rebounds while Courtney Boyd also reach double figures with 10.

The Argos are back in action next Wednesday and Thursday when they battle first place Grand Canyon in Phoenix, AZ.  BOX SCORE

 

HArgos Win Sixth in a Row, Move into Second Place

February 1 – The Notre Dame de Namur women’s basketball team continued their winning ways, earning their sixth straight victory with a 65-60 win over Dixie State.  The Argos and Rebels both came into the contest tied for second place in the PacWest with 6-2 conference records.

NDNU opened the game with a 21-10 run before Dixie State responded with a 15-2 run to take their first lead.  The Argos and Rebels would change leads three more times in the first and go into halftime knotted at 32-32.

The Rebels opened the second half with a 9-4 run to take their biggest lead of the game.  However, NDNU responded and took a five point advantage with just over eight minutes to play.  Dixie State would never lead the game again as the Argos built their margin to eight points in the final minutes.

The Argos shot 46% for the game including 52% in the first and held Dixie State to 37% from the field.

Jennifer Dreessen led all scorers with 23 points on 11-15 shooting and grabbed nine rebounds.  Cory Riley also reached double figures for the Argos with 14 points.  She also grabbed three steals and set the school record for steals in a career with 142.  Sandy Perry added six points, four assists and four steals.

Jessica Carver recorded a double-double for Dixie State 14 points and 10 rebounds while Lindsay Chettinger and Jessica Jones scores 13 and 11 respectively.

hBench Leads Argos to Fifth Consecutive Win

January 26 – The Notre Dame de Namur women’s basketball team posted their fifth consecutive win, defeating PacWest rival Hawaii Hilo 69-56.  The bench carried the offensive load for the Argos, scoring 49 of the team’s 69 points.

The first half was owned by the Vulcans after a 9-2 run put them up by six points at the break.  UHH picked up their run in the second, leading for the first 14 minutes of the half.  However, back-to-back threes by Tanaia Keyes put NDNU up for good. 

The Argos outscored the Vulcans 21-12 at the free throw line, including a 19-5 advantage in the second half.

All three Argos in double figures came off the bench with Britni Rathke scoring a game high 16 points.  Keyes added 15 points and seven rebounds while Ashley Wilson tacked on 12 points.

Shiela Azevedo led the Vulcans with 12 points and seven rebounds.  Samantha Nordstrom hit 7-8 from the free throw line and finished with 11 points.

NDNU improved to 6-2 in Pacific West play and are tied for second with Dixie State.  The Argos and Rebels meet twice next weekend at Walter Gleason Gym with each game starting at 5:30 pm.  BOX SCORE

 

hBig Second Half Helps NDNU Win Fourth Straight

January 25 – The Notre Dame de Namur women’s basketball team improved to 5-2 in Pacific West play with a 66-55 victory over Hawaii Hilo.  The Argos outscored UHH 40-27 to earn their fourth straight win.

The NDNU defense set the tone early, forcing the Vulcans to miss their first 16 shots and commit ten turnovers in the first ten minutes.  However, UHH responded by hitting eight of their next ten shots and took a two point lead into the break. 

The Vulcans increased their lead to six early in the second half before a 15-2 Argonaut run put NDNU up for good.  The Argos shot 48% in the second half and outscored UHH from the free throw 14-1. 

Cory Riley scored a game high 18 points and added six assists and four rebounds.  Jennifer Dreessen picked up a double-double, finishing with 14 points, 14 rebounds, three steals and two blocks while Darice Murray added 11 points.

Sheila Azevedo led the Vulcans with 12 points and nine rebounds.  Jessica Hanato and Samantha Nordstrom each tacked on 10 points.

hArgos Win Third Straight, Down Hawaii Pacific

January 23 – The Notre Dame de Namur women’s basketball team picked up their third straight victory with a 61-55 win over visiting Hawaii Pacific.  The Argos played excellent defense, forcing 24 Sea Warrior turnovers while improving to 4-2 in Pacific West play.

The first half was controlled by NDNU for the first 15 minutes before HPU stormed back to take a 35-34 lead into the break.  Ashley Jenkins scored 27 of the Sea Warriors 35 first half points on 11-15 shooting.

HPU started the second half off strong, going up by as many as six points.  However, with just under ten minutes to play the Argos took the lead for good and never looked back.

NDNU managed to shot just 31% from the field, but did knock down nine 3-pointers.

Cory Riley led the Argos with 12 points, three assists and two steals while Jennifer Dreessen added 11 points and nine rebounds.  Britni Rathke also reached double figures with ten points, eight of which came in the first half.  Point guard Sandy Perry picked up a career high seven assists.

Jenkins finished the game with 31 points for HPU after being held to 1-6 shooting in the second half.

hArgos Make it Two Straight, Topple Chaminade 66-58

January 19 – For the second straight day, the Notre Dame de Namur women's basketball team used a big first half run to overtake Chaminade and improve to 3-2 in PacWest play.

With the Argos trailing by two in final seven minutes of the first half, they ripped off a 12-0 run to take the lead for good.  Chaminade would cut the lead to six at the break and managed to get within three in the second half.  However, NDNU shot 44% in the second half to preserve the victory.

Tanaia Keyes came off the bench to lead the Argos with 21 points and seven rebounds.  Starting guards Sandy Perry and Cory Riley combined 15 points, 11 assists and four steals.

Samantha Saito scored a game high 22 points for the Swords while Katherine Carlisle added 19 points.

hBig First Half Pushes Argos Past Chaminade

January 18 – The Notre Dame de Namur women’s basketball team moved to 2-2 in PacWest play with a 78-55 victory over Chaminade.  Junior Ashley Wilson led all scorers with 21 points and hit 6-8 from behind the 3-point line.

The Argos stormed out to a 21 point first half lead after shooting 57% from the field and 62% from behind the arc.  NDNU used runs of 14-2 and 12-3 in the half.

The second half was much of the same as the Argos moved their margin to as many as 34 before the Swords cut it back down to 23 at the end of the game.  Chaminade was held to 31% shooting for the game and committed 22 turnovers while NDNU made 11-21 threes.

Wilson scored 15 of her 21 points in the first, connecting on five threes in the half.  Jennifer Dreessen also reached double figures for the Argos with 14 points and five rebounds.  Starting guards Cory Riley and Sandy Perry combined for 11 assists.

Katherine Carlisle led the Swords with 12 points and five rebounds while Marian Murphy grabbed a game high eight rebounds.

hArgos Fall to Hawaii Hilo

January 16 – After a quick 14-2 run to start the game the Notre Dame de Namur women’s basketball team could not hold off Hawaii Hilo, falling 78-69.  The Argos fell to 1-2 in conference play with the loss while Hilo moved to 4-0.

The first five minutes was all NDNU as Jennifer Dreessen and Cory Riley combined for 11 points and gave the Argos a 14-2 lead.  The Vulcans quickly closed the gap, using an 11-2 run to pull within one point at 20-19.  The rest of the half went back and forth with NDNU eventually taking a two point lead into the break.

The second half was a different story with the Vulcans building their margin to as many as nine.  However the Argos battled back and cut the difference to one point with 1:34 left before UHH hit eight straight free throws to close out the game. 

Dreessen and Cory Riley each scored a game high 21 points.  Dreessen hit 9-12 shots and added seven rebounds while Riley made five 3-pointers and dished out five assists.  Point guard Sandy Perry tacked four points, five assists, four rebounds and three steals.

The Vulcans were paced by four players in double figures, including a team high 19 from Jamie Mattos off the bench.  Shiela Azevedo scored 16 while Samantha Nordstrom and Nesha Kimitete added 14 each. 

The Argos stay in Hawaii for a pair of games against Chaminade on Friday and Saturday before returning home to face Hawaii Hilo on Wednesday.  BOX SCORE

 

hArgos Rout BYU Hawaii, Earn First Victory

January 3 – A night after dropping a heartbreaker in the final second, the Notre Dame de Namur women’s basketball team responded with an 87-49 outburst over BYU Hawaii.  The Argos were on fire all game long, connecting on 56% from the field and 86% from the line. 

NDNU did not wait long to put the game out of reach, using an early 21-2 run to build 23 point first half lead.  In the second, the Argos refused to slow down, rattling off a 30-2 run to building their margin to over 40 points.

The NDNU defense also turned in their best performance of the season, forcing 35 turnovers and holding the Seasiders to 37% shooting. 

Cory Riley carried the Argonauts offense with a career high 25 points on 8-12 shooting.  Riley also added six assists, four steals and three 3-pointers.  Tanaia Keyes also turned in a career high with 13 points, hitting 3-5 from behind the arc.  Ashley Wilson and Darice Murray tacked on 11 and 10 points respectively, giving the Argos four players in double figures for the first time this season.

Richelle Fenenbock scored 11 and Agnes Tuilevuka added 10 for Seasiders who were just 4-15 from the line in the second half. 

The Argos are back in action on January 16th for the first game of their three game road trip in Hawaii.  NDNU opens up with Hawaii Hilo on the 16th before facing Chaminade for a pair of games.  BOX SCORE

 

hBYU Hawaii Nips Argos in Conference Opener

January 2 – The Notre Dame de Namur women’s basketball team dropped their conference opener to BYU Hawaii 67-65.  The Argos and Seasiders swapped leads throughout the game before BYU took the lead for good with 7 seconds left.

In the first half both teams used big runs to build early leads.  After the Seasiders went on a 12-0 run, the Argos responded with nine straight points.  NDNU largest was five in the final minutes before BYU scored eight straight and took a one point lead into the break. 

The second half was much of the same as the two teams’ swapped leads four times.  However, in the final seconds Madison Kite hit the go-ahead layup to give BYU Hawaii their first victory of the season.

The Argos were led by Ashley Wilson’s 15 points, all coming on five 3-pointers.  Britni Rathke added 11 points, five rebounds, three steals and two blocks while guards Sandy Perry and Cory Riley combined for 16 points and eight assists. 

BYU Hawaii produced four players in double figures with Richelle Fenenbock and Amanda Watts scoring 15 each.  Watts also grabbed nine rebounds.  Agnes Tuilevuka tacked on 12 points on 5-6 shooting and Kite finished with 10 points of the bench. 

These two schools will meet again tomorrow night at 5:30 for their second of three matchups this season.  BOX SCORE

 

hBig Second Half Pushes San Francisco State Past NDNU

December 15 – The Notre Dame de Namur women’s basketball team dropped their final non-conference game of the season, falling 60-41 to San Francisco State.  The Argos struggled mightily from the field, shooting just 28% overall and 1-26 from behind the arc.

With the score tied at 7-7 in the opening minutes, the Gators rattled off 11 straight points to open up a double digit lead.  After the Argos cut the lead to six at the break, SFSU went on a 26-3 run to open the second half and bust the game open.

The Argos shot just 20% in the second half while the Gators hit at a 54% clip.  NDNU did manage a season high 19 steals in the game.

Jennifer Dreessen led the Argonaut offense with 10 points and 11 rebounds.  Britni Rathke and Sandy Perry each picked up four steals for the game while Darice Murray and Cory Riley added three apiece. 

Krystle Mays paced the Gators with 12 points and Brio Rode chipped in nine points and six assists.

December 8 – The Notre Dame de Namur women’s basketball team continued their early season struggles with a pair of losses at the Humboldt State Classic.  The Argos dropped their opening game to host Lumberjacks 77-50 before falling to Fort Hayes State 50-44 on Saturday.

Against Humboldt, the Argos fell behind early and could not make up the ground.  The Jacks shot 47% from the field and made 9-21 threes while the Argos hit 40% of their shots but did make 9 of 17 3-pointers.  HSU also held a 16-7 advantage from the free throw line.

The Argos bench combined to score 39 of the team’s 50 points with Tanaia Keyes leading the way with 12 points.  Ashley Wilson knocked down three 3-pointers on the way to nine points while Britni Rathke added four points, eight rebounds and four assists.

Jennifer Enos led the Lumberjacks with a game high 15 points and Katie Franci turned in a double-double, scoring 12 points and grabbing 14 rebounds. BOX SCORE

On Saturday, the Argos played well defensively, holding Fort Hayes State to just 36% shooting.  However, NDNU could not find their touch either and connected on 34% of their shots.  After an 8-0 to start the game, Fort Hayes never trailed but the Argos did cut the lead to one with nine minutes remaining.    

Once again, the NDNU bench provided most of the scoring, tallying 30 of the team’s 44 points.  Darice Murray led the way with 10 points while Ashley Cavalieri tacked on nine with three 3-pointers.  Rathke added eight points and four steals.

Brianna Willhite was unstoppable for FHS, netting 21 points and nine rebounds.  Sheena Kuntzsch chipped in 16 points and made four 3-pointers. 

The Argos are back in action on Saturday, December 15th when San Francisco State comes to Belmont for a 5:30 tip-off.  BOX SCORE

 

 

HCentral Washington Downs NDNU

December 1 – The Notre Dame de Namur women’s basketball team fell to Central Washington 70-58 on the second day of the 2007 Dave Cox Classic.  The Argos took a two point lead into halftime before the Wildcats hit seven 3-pointers in the second half to pull away. 

CWU led 49-47 with just under six minutes to play, but used a 10-0 run over the next three minutes to gain a double digit advantage.  Both teams shot 40% for the game with the Wildcats hitting 52% of their shots in the second half. 

Ramona Vae and Darice Murray led the Argos offensively, scoring 12 and 10 points respectively.  Cory Riley added eight points and four steals.  Jen Jacobs poured in 21 points off the bench for the Wildcats while Kristina Klapperich tacked on 11 points and 11 rebounds.  BOX SCORE

 

Seattle Handles Argos

November 30 - Four Redhawks reached double figures as Seattle downed Notre Dame de Namur 103-39 in the second game of the 2007 Dave Cox Classic.  The Argos struggled offensively and defensively, shooting just 30% and allowing Seattle to shoot 65%.  The Redhawks also hit 11 threes and made 65% of their shots from beyond the arc.

Jennifer Dreesen paced the Argonauts with nine points and five rebounds.  Kamrica Ary-Turner and Quin Brewe led Seattle with 15 points each while Laina Sobczak and Leah Stepovich added 14 and 10 respectively.

hArgos Struggle in Second Half, Fall to Saint Martin’s

November 28 – After a strong first half that saw NDNU shoot 48%, the Argos shot just 24% in the second half and dropped their first road game to Saint Martin’s 68-51.  The Saints on the other hand made 50% of their shots in the second and forced NDNU into 14 turnovers.

SMU opened the game with a 9-0 run and led by as many 11 with three minutes remaining.  However, the Argos closed the half on a 9-2 run and cut the deficit to four.  The second was a different story as the Saints outscored the Argos 35-22 including an 11-4 run to open the half.

Jen Dreessen turned in the best performance of the night, recording a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds.  Dreessen also added two assists, two steals and shot 4-6 from the field.  Ashley Wilson also reached double figures for NDNU, draining three 3-pointers on her way to 11 points.  Sandy Perry came off the bench to register six assists and five rebounds.

Amber Harmon led the SMU offense with 14 points while Dara Zack tacked on 11.  Sade Smith and Kassie Ludeman added nine points each.

The Argos are back in action Friday and Saturday for the Seattle University Tournament that will pit NDNU against Seattle and Central Washington.  BOX SCORE

 

CSU San Bernardino and Humboldt Win on Day Two

November 17 – For the second day in a row, the Coyotes and Lumberjacks stormed past their competition in the NDNU Tip-Off Classic, CSU San Bernardino downed Western Oregon 75-52 while Humboldt shot 56% to topple NDNU 90-70.

The Coyotes jumped out to a 33-6 lead and cruised to 24 point victory.  Vanessa Wilt poured in 24 points and grabbed 11 rebounds while Shanae Blake, Rachel Johnson and Krystal Urzua also reach double figures.  Shayla Corder led the Wolves with 15 points and Leada Berkey tacked on 12 points and 6 boards.  BOX SCORE

Humboldt State had three players in double figures, led by Kayla Henry with 17 points and five rebounds.  Trisha Alaba tacked on 15 points and Jennifer Enos added 15 points and six assists.  The Lumberjacks shot a blistering 65% from the field in the second half to bust the game open.  Cory Riley and Jennifer Dreessen eached scored 14 points for the Argos.  BOX SCORE

hArgos Fall in Season Opener

November 16 – Vanessa Wilt nearly recorded a triple double as CSU San Bernardino toppled the Notre Dame de Namur women’s basketball team 68-36 in the second game of the NDNU Tip-Off Classic.  Wilt scored 20 points, grabbed 16 rebounds and blocked eight shots for the Coyotes who took a commanding 47-12 lead into halftime.

The Argos struggled from start, hitting just one of their first 18 shots and shooting just 18% in the half.  Meanwhile, the Coyotes hit 15 of 37 shots, including seven three points to jump ahead.  The second half was a different story for NDNU, outscoring CSUSB 24-21 and forcing 14 turnovers.

Cory Riley led NDNU with 10 points, four rebounds and three assists while Jennifer Dreessen grabbed 10 rebounds.  Marianne Bautista hit three of four shots on her was to seven points off the bench.  Along with Wilt, the Coyotes had two other players in double figures.  Rachel Johnson scored 17 and hit five threes, including four in the first half.  Shanae Blake tacked on 13 points, 10 of which came in the first six minutes. 

CSU San Bernardino will play in the early game again tomorrow night with a 4:00 pm tip against Western Oregon, while NDNU will take on Humboldt State at 6:00 pm.  BOX SCORE

 

Humboldt State Storms Past Western Oregon

November 16 – Six Lumberjacks scored in double figures as Humboldt State defeated Western Oregon 106-79 in the first game of the NDNU Tip-Off Classic.  Katie Franci led all players with 22 points and eight rebounds on 9-15 shooting to help push HSU past the 100 point mark.

The game stayed close for much of the first half with both teams battling to a 37-37 tie with two minutes remaining.  However, the Jacks closed out the half on an 11-2 run to take a nine point lead into the break.  The Wolves came out strong in the second, cutting the lead to three before Humboldt responded by scoring 21 of the next 25 points.  The Lumberjacks shot 57% for the game, including 59% in the second half on their way to 58 points.

Shayla Corder turned in a strong outing for Western Oregon, netting a team high 20 points while Alison Crumb added 14 points and four assists.  Kayla Henry scored 17 and grabbed seven boards for Humboldt while Biava Arganda, Brittney Taylor, Paige Peterson and Trisha Alaba each topped 10 points. 

Western Oregon will play in the early game again tomorrow night with a 4:00 pm tip against CSU San Bernardino.  Humboldt will take on host school Notre Dame de Namur at 6:00 pm.  BOX SCORE

 

hDreessen Selected to Preseason All-Conference Team

November 7 – NDNU sophomore forward Jennifer Dreessen was selected to the Pacific West Preseason All-Conference team.  The Argos were picked to finish fourth after returning four starters from last season. 

Dreessen, a freshman forward from Danville was one of seven players selected to the All-Conference squad.  Last season, she garnered Honorable Mention All-PacWest status after a terrific debut season that also earned her the NDNU Female Freshman of the Year award.  She appeared in every game as a freshman and led the team in rebounds (6.6 per game) and field goal percentage (49%).  Dreessen also finished second on the team in steals with 39 and sixth in the conference in rebounds.

The Argos will open their season on November 16th against CSU San Bernardino at the NDNU Tip-Off Classic in Belmont. 

 

hArgos Add JUCO Transfer to Class of 2007

June 20 – The Notre Dame de Namur women’s basketball team added their fourth newcomer to the 2007 roster with addition of Sandy Perry.  Perry, a 5-4 transfer from Ventura College will join a class that already includes incoming freshman Rachel Brunson, Katelyn Gilliam and Stephanie Segura. 

Perry gives the Argos another versatile guard with experience running the point.  She started every game over her two years at Ventura and led the team in minutes played both years.  Perry, a two year Team Captain at Ventura earned First-Team All-Conference honors twice while also leading the team in assists both seasons.  During her sophomore season, Perry averaged 6.6 points, 4.3 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 1.3 steals.

Perry graduated from Palmdale HS in 2005 after lettering four years for the Falcons.  She earned All-Golden League honors three times and was named the Golden League MVP her senior year.  She also received Team MVP honors as a senior and led the Falcons to three straight Golden League championships.

“I am thrilled that Sandy has chosen NDNU to continue her college career.” Coach Jessica Mazeau said.  “She is an excellent point guard with great vision and passing ability.  She is an accomplished floor leader and tenacious defender and I am looking for her to make an immediate impact on our program.”

 

hNDNU Adds Third Recruit

May 21 – The NDNU women’s basketball team added a third recruit for the 2007 season with the signing of Stephanie Segura.  Segura, a 5-7 guard from Tucson, Arizona will join a class that already includes Rachel Brunson and Katelyn Gilliam.

Segura played four years of basketball at Salpointe Catholic High School and was a team captain for three of them.  She was named to the 2006-07 All-Region Team and Hispanic Student Athlete of the Year.  Segura led Salpointe in steals while being named the team’s best defensive player.  She also excelled in the classroom as a member of the National Honor Society, made the Honor Roll all four years and graduated with a 3.75 GPA. 

Segura will add versatility to the Argos on offense and defense with her ability to play any of the guard spots.  Coach Jessica Mazeau expects Segura to contribute right away.  “Stephanie will be a great addition to NDNU women’s basketball.  She is a tenacious defender and gets a lot of tips and steals.  She is also talented on the offensive end with her biggest strength being her passing ability.  Stephanie will fit in perfectly with out style of play on both ends of the floor.  We are very excited that she has chosen NDNU as her new home.”

 

hArgos Add Another to 2007 Class

May 8 - The NDNU women's basketball team added another recruit to their 2007 Class with the addition of Kateyln Gilliam.  Gilliam, a 5-9 guard from Sanger, California played basketball for four years at Sanger High School and earned numerous accolades.

Gilliam was named First-Team All-County Metro Athletic Conference three times and earned First-Team All-Central Section her senior season.  She was also named Honorable Mention All-State her junior season and was a nominee for the McDonald’s All-American Game this year.  Gilliam made seven All-Tournament teams in her career and was Sanger’s Most Outstanding Player three times.  She averaged 15 points, 8 rebounds and 4.5 assists her senior year while leading Sanger to a 25-7 record. In addition to her outstanding play on the court, Gilliam also excelled in the classroom as a scholar athlete for four years.

Gilliam joins fellow incoming freshman Rachel Brunson on an NDNU team that returns nine players.  Coach Jessica Mazeau expects Gilliam to contribute right away.  “I am extremely excited that Katelyn has chosen NDNU to continue her basketball career.  She will have an immediate impact on our program, with her ability to play any of the three guard spots.  Katelyn had an exceptional high school career and has a very bright future at NDNU.  I am thrilled to welcome her to the NDNU women’s basketball family.”

 

hArgos Sign First Recruit

May 1 – The NDNU women’s basketball team signed their first recruit for the 2007 season in Bret Harte Union High School center Rachel Brunson.  Brunson, a 6’1” post player from Angels Camp, California played four years of basketball at Bret Harte Union.  She earned 1st Team All-Academic honors her junior and senior seasons and was named 2nd Team All-League this past year.  Brunson also was selected to the All Tourney Team at the West Coast Jamboree in December. 

 “I chose NDNU because of the location, the promising academic and athletic programs, and the kindness displayed through the students and staff on all of my visits.”  Brunson said of her decision.  Rachel also considered Sonoma State, Lewis and Clark and Menlo College before deciding to become an Argo. 

Coach Jessica Mazeau expects big things from Brunson.  “Rachel will bring a strong presence in the post for us this season.  She is a great athlete with a lot of potential.  NDNU is very excited to have a student-athlete like Rachel. She will be a tremendous addition to our university and our basketball program.”

In addition to basketball, Brunson is also an outstanding student. She is a recipient of the Presidential Scholarship at NDNU after finishing in the top-10 of her class and making the Honor Roll all four years of high school.

 

hThree Argos Receive All-Pac West Honors

April 5 – In their first season of Division II play, the Notre Dame de Namur women’s basketball team had three players earn All-Conference recognition.  Grace Hartman was named to the second team while Ashley Wilson and Jennifer Dreessen received honorable mention status.

Hartman, a senior forward from Brentwood was named Second Team All-Pac West after starting all 28 games for the Argos this season.  Hartman led the team in scoring, averaging 10.0 points per game while also recording team highs in 3-pointers made and blocks.  She finished tied for second in the conference with 54 3-pointers made and ended the season strong, averaging 17.2 points, 9.2 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 4.2 threes over the her final five games.

Wilson, a sophomore guard from San Diego earned honorable mention recognition after finishing second on the team in scoring with 9.6 points per game.  Wilson finished second in 3-point percentage at 41% and fifth in threes made with 50.  In conference play, she upped her scoring average to 13.1 points, placing her sixth in the Pacific West.

hArgos Fall to Grand Canyon in Final Game

March 3 – The Notre Dame de Namur women’s basketball team could not hold off Grand Canyon, dropping the final game of the season 84-65.  The Argos started off strong, shooting 52% in the first half and leading the conference champions six at the break.  The ‘Lopes led by as many as nine early on, but a 19-2 run, including 14 straight points by the Argos gave NDNU a 12 point lead.  The second proved to be a much different half as Grand Canyon took over.  With the game tied at 51-51 with 11:16 left, the ‘Lopes put together two separate 10-0 runs to put the game out of reach.  The Argos shot 50% in half, but they could not overcome 19 second half turnovers.  Grand Canyon shot just 43% for the game but out scored NDNU at the free throw line 23-8.

Grace Hartman led four Argos in double figures, recording her third double-double of the season with 13 points, 10 rebounds and five assists.  Jennifer Dreessen added 12 points and eight rebounds off the bench while Kelsey MacKenzie and Darice Murray tacked on 10 points apiece.  Rosalyn Nelson led all players with 24 points, four assists and four steals while added 22 points on 4-5 shooting from behind the arc.  The Argos finished the season with a 9-19 record, but finished third in conference play with an 8-7 record.  BOX SCORE

 

hGrand Canyon Drops Argos in Pac West Finale

March 2 – The NDNU women’s basketball team finished up their 2006-2007 conference schedule with a defeat at the hands of Grand Canyon, 93-64.  The Argos finished Pacific West play with an 8-7 record, good enough for third in the conference.  Grand Canyon used runs of 9-0 and 17-3 in the first half to take a 22 point lead into the break.  The Lady Lopes started the second with ten straight points and never looked back, shooting 57% in the half.  Grand Canyon, who improved to 15-0 in conference play shot 51% for the game and forced 21 turnovers.  NDNU connected on ten 3-pointers in the contest, but shot just 40% from the field.

Grace Hartman scored a game high 20 points and added eight rebounds, four assists and a career high six 3-pointers.  Ramona Vae was the other Argo in double figures with 10 points and six rebounds.  Grand Canyon had four players in double figures, led by Jennifer Cobb’s 16 points.  Jill Mahoney and Brandi Steinke added 13 points each while Joey White tacked on 10.  Rosalyn Nelson scored nine points while adding nine assists and six steals.  The Argos finish up their season tomorrow night with a non-conference match up with Grand Canyon.  BOX SCORE

 

hSecond Half Comeback Pushes Hawaii-Hilo over NDNU

February 15 – The NDNU women’s basketball team could not hold onto their first half lead, dropping a Pac West game to Hawaii-Hilo 68-62.  The Argos led throughout the first half and for most of the second before a late Hilo rally pushed the Vulcans ahead.  Ashley Wilson and Grace Hartman each hit a 3-pointer in the opening minutes as the Argos scored the games first nine points.  The Vulcans would claw their way back to three, but NDNU was able to take a six point lead into the break.  The Argos continued to lead until the ten minute mark when Hilo tied the game for the first time.  With the score tied at 50-50 and 7:30 left, Amy Kaaiakamanu’s three sparked a 7-0 run.  NDNU would never lead again as Hilo hit clutch shots down the stretch. 

Grace Hartman scored a career high 24 points and recorded her first double-double by adding 11 rebounds.  Ashley Wilson and Ramona Vae tacked on 13 and 10 respectively for the Argos.  Sheila Azevedo picked up a double-double for the Vulcans with 22 points and 10 rebounds while Ashley Kualii added 19 points.  The Argos will take on Chaminade in their final game of the Hawaii trip on Saturday afternoon. hArgos Topple Hilo in Hawaii

February 14– The Notre Dame de Namur women’s basketball team used ten 3-pointers and a great defense to down Hawaii-Hilo 73-56.  The Argos picked up their second win over the Vulcans this year and seventh victory in Pacific West play.  Both teams battled back and forth in the first half with each taking small leads throughout.  However, with the game tied at 32-32 with 2:38 left, the Argos closed the half on an 11-1 run and would never look back.  During the run, Ashley Wilson and Grace Hartman combined for three 3-pointers in less than one minute of play.  NDNU would carry the momentum into the second half, never letting their lead dip into single digits.  The Argos hit 10 threes on the game and shot 44% from the field.  Hilo connected on 37% of their shots for the game including just 25% in the second half.

Ashley Wilson knocked down five 3-pointers on her way to 20 points and six rebounds.  Grace Hartman hit three shots from behind the arc and scored 14 points while Tamar Savazian added 10 points and six boards.  Sheila Azevedo led UHH with 16 points while Amy Kaaiakamanu tacked on 11 points and 11 rebounds.  The Argos will go for a season sweep of the Vulcans on Thursday night before traveling to Chaminade on Saturday.  BOX SCORE

 

hBYU Hawaii Downs NDNU

February 10 – The Notre Dame de Namur women’s basketball team could not hold off Pacific West rival BYU Hawaii, falling 72-55 in their final home game of the year.  The Argos started off slowly, falling behind 8-0.  However, the offense picked it up as the Argos went on top 20-18 with just over seven minutes remaining.  The Seasiders battles right back, scoring twelve straight and taking a nine point lead into the break.  The shot well from the 3-point line in the first half making 5-11, but hit just 5-22 from inside the arc.  BYU Hawaii connected on 53% in the half and hit all six of their free throws.  The second half was much of the same as NDNU shot just 29% and were outscored by eight.  The Argos forced 24 turnovers and hit eight 3-pointers, but shot just 30% for the game.

Ashley Wilson paced the Argos offensive attack knocking down four threes on her way to 20 points.  Wilson also grabbed five rebounds and had four steals.  Senior Grace Hartman scored 15 in her final home game as an Argo.  BYU Hawaii had four players in double figures led by Latoya Wily’s 21 points and 16 rebounds.  Kayla Burningham added 19 while Juanita Afamasaga and Lesina Funaki tacked on 12 and 10 respectively.  The Argos are off to Hawaii for three Pac West games starting February 14th.  BOX SCORE

 

hArgos Down Hawaii Pacific

February 8 – The NDNU women’s basketball team snapped their three game conference losing streak with a 69-62 victory over Hawaii Pacific.  The two teams battled back and forth all night in a game that saw 12 ties and 13 lead changes.  The first half was close throughout with neither team leading by more than five.  HPU took a two point lead into halftime on a late jumper by Ashley Jenkins.  The second half started with the Sea Warriors going up by four before a quick six points gave the lead back to NDNU.  The game continued to seesaw until the eight minute mark when the Argos went ahead for good.  Cory Riley’s four late free throws sealed the victory in a game where the Argos forced a season high 25 turnovers.  Hawaii Pacific out shot NDNU 43% to 40% for the game, but connected on just 37% in the second half.  The Argos also outscored the Sea Warriors 21-10 from the free throw line. 

Cory Riley poured in a career high 21 points for the Argos and added six rebounds, four assists and four steals.  She hit 5-10 from the field and all ten of her free throws.  Ramona Vae tacked on 13 points and nine rebounds while Christy Wiens picked up 10 points and eight boards.  Ashley Jenkins once again paced the Sea Warriors with 18 points off the bench and Kanani Thomas knocked down four threes on her way to 14 points.  The Argos are back in action Saturday afternoon for their final home game of the season when they take on BYU Hawaii at noon.  The Argos will also honor seniors Grace Hartman, Elin Kjoelseth and Nicole Catania after the game.  BOX SCORE

 

hNDNU RETIRES TAMSEN LEE'S NUMBER

The Notre Dame de Namur Argonauts athletic program honored the school’s all-time leading scorer on Saturday with the retiring of Tamsen Lee’s number.  Lee was a four year starter for the Argos and wore the #21 from 2002-2006.  She set the school record for career scoring on January 20, 2006 with a 29 point performance against CSU East Bay.  Lee finished her career with 1152 career points, tops for both the men’s and women’s program, passing Gina Rosen who held the mark at 1,016 since the 1999-2000 season.  Lee, a graduate of Gunderson High in San Jose, also holds the school record for career 3-pointers with 180.  Tamsen graduated last December with a degree in business and currently works for Enterprise Rent-A-Car.

Second Half Comeback Falls Short, Argos Fall to Grand Canyon

January 26 – The NDNU women’s basketball team had their six game winning streak snapped with a 62-58 loss to Grand Canyon.  The Argos found themselves down early, trailing the whole first half after the Antelopes came out hot.  Grand Canyon shot only 40% in the half but forced 15 Argo turnovers and grabbed nine offensive rebounds.  Down by 12 at the break the Argos turned it around early in the second half, scoring seven of the first nine points.  The Lady ‘Lopes pushed the lead back to ten before eight straight NDNU points made it a two point game.  The Argos continued to battle, tying the game with a 1:58 left on Darice Murray’s jumper as the shot clock expired.  GCU would respond by scoring the final four points to improve to 7-0 in Pac West play.  The Argos still sit in second place with a 5-2 conference mark. 

 

Ashley Wilson led three Argos in double figures with 14 points, including 4-6 from behind the arc.  Darice Murray added 11 off the bench while Ramona Vae tacked on 10, all coming in the second half.  Cory Riley finished with seven points, five steals, four assists and four rebounds.  Jennifer Cobb scored 14 for the Antelopes with Roslyn Nelson adding 11.  These two teams will square off again tomorrow night at 5:30 pm in Walter Gleason Gym.  BOX SCORE

 

Argos Make it Six in a Row With Win Over Hawaii-Hilo

January 20 – The NDNU women’s basketball team had no trouble winning their sixth straight game, downing Hawaii-Hilo 73-48.  The Argonauts improved to 5-1 in Pacific West play with the victory and are currently second in the conference.  NDNU trailed early on, falling behind 10-4 in the first five minutes.  However, sophomore guard Ashley Wilson rattled off 17 straight points, including five threes to give the Argos the lead.  After taking a 12 point margin into the half, the Argos came out firing in the second half.  Jen Dreessen poured in 14 second half points as NDNU built their lead to as many as 28.  The Argos shot 55% for the game and knocked down nine threes (eight in the first half) while hitting 12-13 from the charity stripe.  UHH hit just 34% of their shots including 25% in the second half.

 

Ashley Wilson led the way for the Argos with 17 points, all in the first half, and connected on five 3-pointers.  Wilson also added six rebounds, four assists and four steals.  Jen Dreessen and Ramona Vae tacked on 14 points each on a combined 11-12 shooting.  Point guard Cory Riley tied a school record with 12 assists in the game and added seven points and four rebounds.  Sheila Azevedo and Krystlelyn Omlan scored 15 and 13 points respectively for the Vulcans.  The Argos are home again next weekend for a pair of games with first place Grand Canyon on Friday and Saturday night. Argos Storm Past Chaminade, Win Fifth Straight

January 18 – The Notre Dame de Namur women’s basketball team hit eight of their first nine shots and never looked back on their way to a 77-47 victory over Chaminade.  The win was the fifth in a row by the Argos who improved their Pacific West record to 4-1.  NDNU started quickly out of the gates, outscoring the Swords 18-5 over the first six minutes.  Chaminade would whittle the deficit down to two before the Argos closed the half on a 17-3 run, giving them a 16 point halftime lead.  The Swords began the second on a mission, scoring the first nine points to get the difference down to seven.  However, the Argos would not let it get any closer, pushing the lead to as many as 33.  The NDNU defense was the story of the game, holding the Swords to 30% shooting and forcing 23 turnovers.  The Argos shot 49% for the game, including 57 in the first and hit 7-12 from behind the arc.

 

Cory Riley turned in her finest performance of the season, tallying 19 points, six rebounds, five steals and four assists.  She also hit six of her eight shots including two from behind the 3-point line.  Jennifer Dreessen led three other Argos in double figures with 13 points and also grabbed eight rebounds (six offensive).  Grace Hartman added 11 points, eight rebounds and five assists while Ramona Vae tacked on 11 of her own.  Brittnee Fonnesbeck recorded her second straight double-double, finishing with 14 points and 11 rebounds.  Simrin Cummins added 15 points, 12 of which came in the second half.  The Argos are back in action Saturday afternoon against Hawaii-Hilo at Walter Gleason Gym at 12:00 pm. Argos Down Chaminade, Make it Four In a Row

January 17 - The NDNU women’s basketball continued their hot play, winning their fourth straight game with a 63-53 victory over Chaminade.  The Argos improved their Pac West record to 3-1 with the win, giving them three consecutive conference wins.  Chaminade led the game early, using nine unanswered points to take a 19-15 lead with just over eight minutes remaining.  The Silver Swords led by five with six minute left before the Argos ended the half on a 15-2 run and took an eight point margin into halftime.  NDNU picked up their hot shooting in the second, starting the half with a 19-5 run and increasing the difference to 22 points.  However, Chaminade would not go away quietly, answering back with ten straight points to cut the Argo lead to 12.  The Silver Swords would manage to cut the deficit to seven on a pair of free throws with 1:33 left, but that would be as close as they would come.  NDNU shot 45% from the field and held Chaminade to just 34% shooting and 18% from behind the 3-point line.

 

Ashley Wilson led the way for the Argos, pouring in 19 points and grabbing six rebounds.  Wilson hit seven of her eleven shots and including 3-5 from behind the arc.  Jennifer Dreessen was the only other Argo in double figures, scoring 10 points and adding six boards.  Brittnee Fonnesbeck tallied a game high 20 points for Chaminade and also tacked on 15 rebounds.  Simrin Cummins netted 15 points while Katherine Carlisle added 11 for the Silver Swords.  The Argos will look to make it five in a row tomorrow when these two teams square off at 5:30 pm. Argos Win Third Straight, Topple Santa Cruz

January 13 – The Notre Dame de Namur women’s basketball team picked up their third straight victory with a 56-45 win over UC Santa Cruz.  The Argos played their most impressive defensive game of the season, holding the Slugs to just 29% shooting from the field.  NDNU never trailed in the game, jumping out to an early lead and never looking back.  With the score 9-7 with 13 minutes left in the first, the Argos rattled off eleven unanswered points to take a 13 point lead.  NDNU’s defense played spectacularly in the first, forcing the Slugs into 12 turnovers and 25% shooting.  The second half was much of the same, as the Argos stretched the margin to 18 points before taking home the 11 point victory.  NDNU shot 42% for the game including 50% in the second half.

Three Argos players reached double figures, led by Grace Hartman’s 13 points and seven rebounds.  Ramona Vae tacked on 12 points and seven boards while Darice Murray picked up 10 points and four steals.  Megan Gaynor had a game high 14 for the Slugs and added five rebounds and four assists.  Melissa Junge was the other UCSC player in double figures, scoring 13 points on 6-6 shooting.  The Argos return to Pac West play this Wednesday and Thursday with a pair of games against Chaminade University at Walter Gleason Gym.  Both games will start at 5:30 and are followed by the men’s games. Buzzer Beater Lifts Argos to Second Straight Win

January 6 - Sophomore Ashley Wilson followed up her career high 30 point performance on Thursday by hitting a buzzer beater to down Hawaii Pacific 51-49.  The Argos were in control for all of the first half on their way to their second straight Pacific West Conference victory.  After starting the game on a 9-2 run, the Argos pushed their lead to ten with just over three minutes remaining.  The Sea Warriors responded with a seven unanswered points before the game went to break with the Argos up 25-20.  NDNU pushed the margin back up to seven in the second before HPU rallied to take their first lead of the game with 7:13 remaining.  That would be the only time the Sea Warriors would be on top as the Argos went back up by five with three minutes left.  HPU knotted the game at 49-49 on Constance Decaires lay-up with 30 seconds remaining and a defensive stop gave the Sea Warriors the ball with three ticks left.  Wilson then stole the inbounds pass and made the game winning lay-up as time expired to give the Argos the victory. 

Grace Hartman led the Argos offensively, scoring 15 points and grabbing five rebounds.  Ramona Vae added 13 points, 11 of which came in the first half.  Constance Decaires netted 12 points off the bench for Hawaii Pacific while Jocelyne Norris tacked on 11.  The Argos return home to face UC Santa Cruz on Saturday night at 7:00 pm. Wilson Scores 30, Argos Capture First Win

January 4 - Sophomore Ashley Wilson poured in 30 points of the bench to help NDNU pick up their first win of the season.  The Argos toppled BYU Hawaii 64-59 to end their skid and improve to 1-1 in Pac West play.  The two teams battled all night long, in a game that saw five ties and seven lead changes.  The first was moved back and four with the Seasiders pilling ahead first early.  The Argos responded with a 7-0 run to give them their first lead of the game.  After the NDNU lead stretched to seven, BYU rebounded and retook the lead before heading into the half tied.  The Argos shot just 38% in the half but hit six 3-pointers, including five from Wilson.  The second half was much of the same before a 10-3 Argo spurt put them ahead for good.  The Seaiders cut the difference to two late in the game, but Wilson was able to ice the victory with two clutch free throws.  NDNU hit nine 3-pointers in the game and forced BYU into 20 turnovers.

Wilson hit 11-17 shots including 6-11 from the behind the arc and added four steals.  Ramona Vae tacked on 16 points and nine rebounds while Jen Dreessen grabbed a game high 14 rebounds.  Kayla Burnington scored 20 and Latoya Wily contributed 13 points and nine boards for the Seasiders in defeat.  The Argos continue thier Hawaii trip with the third and final game on Saturday against Hawaii Pacific. BYU Hawaii Outlasts NDNU in Conference Opener

January 3 - The NDNU women's basketball team fell in their Pacific West opener to BYU Hawaii, 86-69.  The Argos led early on, as their defense came out strong, allowing the Seasiders to hit just two of their first eleven shots.  However, BYU found their touch from the field, rattling off an 11-2 run and taking an eight point lead.  The Seasiders were just getting started, building their lead to 17 points before the half ended.  NDNU connected on just 30% of their shots in the first half while BYU hit 45% of theirs.  The Seasiders continued their run in the second, starting the half on a 13-2 run and increasing the margin to 25 points.  The Argos would not go away quietly, cutting the lead to 13 with a 12-2 spurt with just under two minutes left.  BYU Hawaii would hit six straight free throws and close out the game.

The Argos has a season high four players in double figures, led by Grace Hartman's 12 points and seven rebounds.  Ashley Wilson, Tamar Savazian and Christy Wiens each tacked on 11 points.  The Seasiders finished with five players in double figures including 23 from Kayla Burningham.  Latoya Wily added 17 points and grabbed 14 rebounds to record the games only double-double.  The two teams will square off again tomorrow night in Laie, Hawaii. NDNU Drops Tough Road Game to Alaska Fairbanks

December 31 - The Notre Dame de Namur women's basketball suffered another tough non-conference loss, falling to Alaska Fairbanks 74-54.  The Argonauts started the game off strong, trailing by only one with midway through the first half.  After a Cory Riley three made the score 18-17 with just over 10 minutes to play in the half, Fairbanks rattled off a 20-8 run to take a 13 point lead into the break.  The Nanooks picked up where they left off in the second, watching their lead swell to 26 points.  The Argos started off hot from behind the arc hitting 4-8 in the first half, but could only connect on 1-6 in the second.  Alaska Fairbanks was able to knock down six first half threes on their way to shooting over 50% from the field for the game.

Cory Riley led the Argonauts offense, scoring 13 points off the bench and hitting three 3-pointers.  Ramona Vae added 11 points and five rebounds while Jen Dreessen chipped in another 10 points and six boards.  UAF was led by a game high 14 from Kari Reabold, who also grabbed eight rebounds.  Sheena Brown and Cristina Bruketta also scored in double figures for the Nanooks.  The Argos are off to Hawaii for their first three Pacific West games before returning home to face UC Santa Cruz on January 13th. Argos Fall to Alaska Anchorage

December 29 - The NDNU women's basketball team could not half undefeated Alaska Anchorage their first lost of the season, dropping the non-conference road game 72-47.  The Argos held tough for the first eight minutes, using a swarming defense to keep the game tied at 10-10.  However, the Seawolves answered back with a 9-0 run on their way to a 40-20 halftime lead.  NDNU forced 11 turnovers in the first, but shot just 38% from the field.  After UAA started the second half on a 16-2 run the Argos ended strong, outscoring the Seawolves 25-16 over the final 13 minutes.  NDNU hit four 3-pointers in the second half while holding Achorage to 40% from the field. 

Kelsey MacKenzie scored nine of her team high 12 points in the second half, with all four of her field goals coming from behind the arc.  Grace Hartman added 10 points and three assists while Ramona Vae tacked on six points and nine rebounds.  Rebecca Kielpinski poured in a game high 21 points and 11 rebounds for the Seawolves.  Kielpinski hit 10-16 shots from the field and added three assists and three blocks.  The Argos are back in action Saturday night against Alaska-Fairbanks.  BOX SCORE

 

 

San Bernardino Topples NDNU

December 19 - CSU San Bernardino raced out to a 20-0 lead and would never look back, downing the NDNU women's basketball team 71-32.  The Coyotes took the early lead after starting the game off with 20 straight points.  For the half, CSUSB shot just 31% but took a 19 point lead into halftime due to the Argos hitting just 4 of 28 shots.  NDNU protected the basketball all game long, committing a season low 11 turnovers, but made just 21% of their shots.  San Bernardino came out firing in the second, knocking down 61% of their shots.

Kelsey MacKenzie scored a career high 14 points, 11 of which came in the second half.  Ramona Vae contributed 10 rebounds and three steals in 18 minutes off the bench.  San Bernardino's Vanessa Wilt led all players with 24 points and added 13 rebounds.  She shot 11-13 from the field and made both of her free throws.  The Argos are back in action December 29-30 in Alaska when they take on Alaska-Anchorage and Alaska-Fairbanks. Big First Half Leads Dominguez Hills Over NDNU

December 18 - The Notre Dame de Namur women's basketball team dropped a tough road game to CSU Dominguez Hills 61-44.  The Argos struggled in the first half and found themselves down by 20 at halftime.  With the game 15-9 with just over eight minutes to play in the first, the Toros closed out the half on a 20-6 run.  NDNU rebounded in the second half, outscoring CSUDH 29-26 but could not overcome the deficit.  The Argos committed 26 turnovers and shot just 32% for the game.  Dominguez hit 50% of their shots in the first half, but were held to just 33% in the second.

Ashley Wilson led the Argos in scoring with nine points, all coming on 3-pointers.  Ramona Vae added eight points off the bench while Jennifer Dreessen picked up ten rebounds.  Jessica Liang connected on four treys for the Toros to finish with a game high 14 points.  The Argos are back in action tomorrow night against Cal State San Bernardino at 5:30 pm. NDNU Falls in Game 2 of North Coast Inn Classic

December 7 - The NDNU Argonauts could not hold off the balanced attack of Northwest Nazarene, dropping their second North Coast Inn Classic game.  The Crusaders used a big second half to pull away and take the contest, 82-50.  The first half was highly contested battle with the Argos trailing by five despite shooting 50% from the field.  The second half was a different story as NNU shot a blistering 64% and forced 18 Argonaut turnovers.  The Crusaders also used a 20-4 run to push the game out of reach.

Jennifer Dreessen led the Argos offense with a career high 13 points off the bench and added four rebounds.  Cory Riley tacked on nine points and five assists while Darice Murray and Ramona Vae combined for 14 points and 14 rebounds.  Northwest Nazarene was paced by four players in double figures including a game high 17 from Ahlee Thomas.  Danielle Dwello recorded a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds and Nichole Schutte added 14 points of her own.  NDNU is off until December 18th when they travel to Carsen, CA to face CSU Dominguez Hills. Lumberjacks Drop Argos in North Coast Inn Classic

December 6 - The NDNU women's basketball team dropped their opening round game of the North Coast Inn Classic to Humboldt State, 76-46.  The Argos started off strong, taking an early 5-4 lead after a Grace Hartman 3-pointer.  However, the Lumberjacks responded by scoring 12 unanswered points and taking an 11 point lead into the half.  The second half was much of the same as Humboldt outscored the NDNU 39-20 despite being held to just 34% shooting.  The difference in the game came from behind the arc as the Lumberjacks hit nine 3-pointers to only two from the Argos.

Romana Vae led the Argos with her second double-double of the season, finishing with 12 points and 10 rebounds.  Darice Murray added 10 points while Jen Dreessen tacked on nine points and seven rebounds off the bench.  The Argos shot just 31% as a team, but did connect on 14-20 free throws in the game.  Humboldt State was paced by three players in double figures, including 13 points apiece from Mia Spasowska and Katie Wilder.  Wilder also added six assists and hit three 3-pointers.  Jennifer Enos knocked down 3-4 threes on her way to 11 points.  The Argos will face Western Oregon on Friday night for the second game of the Classic.  BOX SCORE

 

Dixie State Topples NDNU

December 2 - The Dixie State College women's basketball team proved to be too much for the Argos, taking the game 82-49.  NDNU kept it close for the first five minutes, using back-to-back 3-pointers by Grace Hartman to tie the game a 10-10.  However, the Rebels responded by ripping off ten straight points.  Later in the half, Dixie State would go on a 17-0 run to push the lead to 27 points at halftime.  The Argos played much better in the second half, holding the Rebels to just 39% shooting including 0-10 from behind the arc but the damage was already done.

Cory Riley led the Argos with 11 points, four assists and three steals from the point guard position while Romana Vae added eight points and four rebounds off the bench.  Forwards Ashley Wilson and Darice Murray combined for 13 points and 13 rebounds.  Tiara Bowman netted a game high 21 points off the bench for the Rebels.  She knocked down all five of Dixie State's 3-pointers on the game.  Maggie Apt picked up a double-double, finishing with 14 points and 10 rebounds.  The Rebels also got a great all-around performance from Jessica Carver who tacked on 13 points, nine rebounds, four steals and four blocks.  The Argos are on the road again this week with games against Humboldt State and Northwest Nazarene in Arcata, CA. Argos Fall to Mesa State

December 1 - The Notre Dame de Namur Argonauts could not hold off Mesa State in a non-conference tilt in St. George, Utah.  The Argos found themselves down early and could not get back into the game, losing 89-69.  MSC forced NDNU into 17 first half turnover on their way to a nine point halftime lead.  The Argos picked it up in the second half, shooting 61% from the field but could not close the gap.

Ramona Vae turned in the best Argo performance of the season, scoring 24 points and adding 13 rebounds.  Cory Riley pitched in 12 points and three steals while Grace Hartman added seven points.  Allison Piekarski led the Mesa State attack, pouring in 21 points and grabbing 10 boards.  Three other Mavericks scored in double figures, led by Abby Hancock's 13 points.  The Argos are back in action tomorrow night against Dixie State College in St. George, Utah.  BOX SCORE

 

NDNU Suffers Tough Loss in Santa Cruz

November 29 - The NDNU women's basketball team dropped their third straight game, losing to UC Santa Cruz 61-55.  The Argos found themselves down early before a second half comeback erased the deficit.  Santa Cruz took a six point lead into halftime thanks mostly to holding NDNU to just 26% shooting.  The second half was a different story as the Argos shot 42% from the field and hit four 3-pointers.  The game remained close throughout the half, with NDNU taking their first lead of the game with 11 minutes remaining.  With six minutes left and the game tied at 43, the Banana Slugs went on a quick 6-0 run and would never look back.  The Argos continued to battle, cutting the lead to three on Ashley Wilson's 3-pointer with 18 seconds left.  However, Kayleigh Calandri would hit three straight free throws to close out the game.

Grace Hartman led all scorers in the game with 19 points and was 4-8 from 3-point range.  Freshman Jen Dreessen added six points and 14 rebounds in her first collegiate start.  Darice Murray tacked on seven points, eight rebounds and two steals.  Calandri paced the UCSC offense, pouring in 15 points, 11 of which came from the charity stripe.  Rachel Ocampo added 10 points off the bench while Megan Gaynor picked up eight points and 10 boards.  The Argos are off to Utah to face Mesa State and Dixie State this weekend.  BOX SCORE

 

Hartman Named to All-Tip-Off Classic Team

November 22 - NDNU forward Grace Hartman was named to the All-Tip-Off Classic Team for her performance last weekend.  Hartman averaged 10.5 points per game while adding three 3-pointers, three steals and two blocks.  The team consisted of one player from each of the eight teams who participated in the Classic.  Grand Canyon's Brandi Steinke won the Tournament MVP after averaging 23 points and 9.5 rebounds and leading the Antelopes to a 2-0 record.  Also named to the team were; Tina Stetson (CSU Monterey Bay), Jessica Carver (Dixie State), Alicia Flaaten (Dominican), Rosalyn Omoruyi (Cal State L.A), Laina Sobczak (Seattle), and Jessi Reome (Saint Martin's).

 

 

Argos Fall to Monterey Bay 81-68

November 18 – The NDNU women’s basketball team could not hold off CSU Monterey Bay in the final game of the NDNU Tip-Off Classic.  The Argos could not get ahead of the Otters, trailing throughout game.  Monterey Bay used a hot start from Krista Herr, who poured in the teams first eight points.  The Otters connected on 50% of their shots in the first, compared to just 27% from the Argos.  The NDNU defense managed to force 16 turnovers in the opening half, but found themselves trailing 41-28 at intermission. 

The second half was a highly contest battle, as the Argos chipped away at the lead.  After the Otter lead swelled to 18 points, NDNU got back within eight points thanks to some excellent free throw shooting.  The Argos connected on 30 of 36 free throw attempts for the game, including 21 for 22 in the second half.  Monterey Bay’s big advantage on the night was 23 offensive rebounds, several of which came in the closing minutes.  Cory Riley paced the NDNU offense, scoring a game high 17 points and grabbing 6 rebounds.  Ashley Wilson hit two 3-pointed on her way to 12 points.  The Argos once again got strong bench play, as Jennifer Dreessen scored 7 points and grabbed 9 rebounds.  The Otters were led by four players in double figures, including a team high 16 points from Krista Herr.  Dana Andrews and Tina Stetson added 11 points apiece off the bench.  The Argos are back in action November 29 against UC Santa Cruz.  BOX SCORE

 

Dominican, Cal State L.A and Grand Canyon Win on Day Two

The second day of the NDNU Tip-Off Classic saw Dominican and Cal State L.A pick up their first victories while Grand Canyon improved to 2-0.

 

Dominican took the first game of the day with a 74-55 victory over Dixie State College.  The Penguins jumped out early, scoring the games first ten points and never trailing in the game.  Dixie State cut the lead to three in the second half before a 16-0 Dominican run put the game out of reach.  Alisha Flaaten led all scorers with 20 points and connected on six 3-pointers.  Olivia Williams added 19 points for the Penguins, who forced 27 turnovers for the game.  The Rebels were led by 12 points from Chelsea Robinson on four 3-pointers.  Jessica Carver grabbed 10 rebounds and added four steals in the loss. The second game of the proved to be a much closer affair as Cal State L.A edged past Seattle University 52-49.  CSULA found themselves down early, not scoring for the first ten minutes and trailing 12-0.  Seattle relied on their defense to hold the Golden Eagles to 23% shooting and forcing 20 turnovers in the first half.  However, CSULA rebounded in the second half to shoot 65% and erase a 15 point deficit.  The Golden Eagles took their first lead of the game on a jumper by Brenae Perkins with only 49 seconds left.  They would go on to add a free throw and force a late turnover to preserve the win.  Rosalyn Omoruyi paced Cal State L.A with 23 points off the bench, 21 of which came in the second half.  Seattle’s offense was led by Laina Sobczak’s 14 points while their defense forced 34 turnovers. Grand Canyon become the only team in the tournament to go 2-0, downing Saint Martin’s 79-66.  After trailing in the first few minutes, the Antelopes rushed ahead and never looked back.  Rosalyn Nelson narrowly missed a triple double, finishing with 15 points, 11 assists and 9 steals to lead the Grand Canyon attack.  Jennifer Cobb poured in a tournament high 30 points, going 6-9 from 3-point range.  Brandi Steinke added 18 points, 7 rebounds, 3 steals and 2 blocks for the ‘Lopes.  Saint Martin’s was led by Jessi Reome who scored 23 points and hit five 3-pointers.  Whitney Golob tacked on 8 points and 9 rebounds in defeat.  BOX SCORE

 

Big Second Half Pushes Seattle Past NDNU

November 17 – The Notre Dame de Namur women’s basketball team dropped their season opener to Seattle University 74-59.  The Argos and Redhawks squared off at Walter Gleason Gym for the fourth game of the NDNU Tip-Off Classic.  The eight team tournament started at 12:00 pm, with the NDNU-Seattle game closing out Day 1 with a 6:00 pm tip.  The Argos jumped out early, taking a 30-22 lead at halftime thanks to strong defensive play.  NDNU held the Redhawks to just 25% shooting from the field and forced 12 turnovers.  

The second half was a different story, as Seattle outscored the Argos 52-29 while shooting 58%.  The Redhawks were sparked by 19-5 run early in the half to bust the game open.   Grace Hartman led all scorers, pouring in 16 points for NDNU and hitting two 3-pointers.  Seattle was paced by three players in double figures, including 14 points and 7 rebounds from Laina Sobczak.  Carly Fromdahl and Quinn Brewe added 11 points each.  The Argos got strong play from their bench as Jennifer Dreessen grabbed 8 rebounds and Kelsey MacKenzie tacked on 8 points.  NDNU is back in action tomorrow night for the second day of the Tip-Off Classic against CSU Monterey Bay at 6:00 pm. Grand Canyon, Saint Martin’s and Dixie State Prevail in Opening Day of Tip-Off Classic

November 17 – The first three games of the NDNU Tip-Off Classic went undecided until the final minute.  Grand Canyon started the day off with a 75-73 come from behind victory over Dominican University.  The Antelopes found themselves trailing by five at halftime and by as much as 11 in the second half.  However, thanks to a 28 point, 12 rebound performance by Brandi Steinke, GCU pulled out the victory.  Dominican held a three point lead until the final minute of play until Jennifer Cobb buried a three to tie the score at 73-73.  With the score still tied at 73 in the final seconds, Steinke drew a foul and was sent to the line.  She then sunk a pair of free throws with 4.6 seconds left to give Grand Canyon a 75-73 victory.  Dominican got 17 points and 9 rebounds from Chardonnay Nelson and 15 points and 7 assists from Alisha Flaaten in defeat.  BOX SCORE

The second game provided just as much excitement as Saint Martin’s edged past Cal State L.A, 63-59.  The two teams battled back and fourth all game long with the Saints sinking a pair of crucial free throws to close out the game.  Saint Martin’s was led by three players in double figures, including 16 points and 8 rebounds from Sade Smith.  Whitney Golob and Jessi Reome added 13 and 12 points respectively.  Cal State L.A was paced by 15 points and 7 rebounds from DeAnna Baldwin. The third game of the day proved to be another nail biter, with Dixie State downing CSU Monterey Bay 75-72.  Dixie State led for most of the first half, including several double digit leads.  However, CSUMB stormed back and took an eight point lead at the beginning of the second half.  The Rebels would quickly erase the deficit as the game remained tied with 9:33 left.  DSC used a free throw by Tiara Bowman to go up 61-60 and never look back.  Bowman finished the game with 18 points and four 3-pointers while Liz Lewis and Jessica Carver scored 16 apiece.  The Otters were led by 18 points and four threes from Dana Andrews and a 17 point, 16 rebound performance from Tina Stetson. The Tip-Off Tournament will continue again tomorrow with four more games.  The action will start at 12:00 pm with Dominican taking on Dixie State.  The 2:00 pm game will see Cal State L.A face Seattle University, followed by Saint Martin’s against Grand Canyon.  NDNU will close the tournament with a 6:00 pm tip-off against CSU Monterey Bay.

 

Argos Set to Host Tip-Off Tournament

 

The Notre Dame de Namur women’s basketball team prepares to host the first ever NDNU Tip-Off Tournament this weekend at Walter Gleason Gym.  The Argonauts will be joined by seven other teams for eight games over two days.  The tournament will tip-off on Friday, November 17th at 12:00 pm and continue with games at 2:00 pm, 4:00 pm and 6:00 pm.  On Saturday, the four games will be played at the same times.  The Argos will play in the 6:00 pm game each night, taking on Seattle University on Friday and CSU Monterey Bay on Saturday.

 

The other teams participating in the event include fellow Pacific West member Grand Canyon and future member Dixie State College.  The tournament will also feature three other Division II programs, including GNAC members, Saint Martin’s and Seattle University and CCAA members Cal State L.A and CSU Monterey Bay.  The field is rounded out by Dominican University from the NAIA.

Argos Fall Short in Final Game of the Season at CSU East Bay

The Argos outscored the Pioneers in the second half but could not overcome a first half deficit and fell short, 59-51. NDNU started hot as they have the last few games and got out to a 9-0 lead but could not turn the corner. East Bay got hot from the three point line and cut the deficit and eventually took the lead.  East Bay sank four big three-pointers to go into the intermission up 36-27. East Bay held the advantage most of the second half but then NDNU turned to their defense to cut the deficit and evntually took a one point lead with three minutes remaining. NDNU could not hang on to the lead as East Bay stormed back and hit critical baskets. The Argos had their chances in the final minutes but could not come up with the right result. The Argos went down fighting in their final game of the season. Amanda Monteith, who always play well at Hayward came up with 16 points and 7 rebounds for NDNU. Darice Murray (10 points) and Grace Hartman (8 points, 8 rebounds) were strong inside for NDNU. Seniors, Tamsen Lee (7 points) and Marie Fredlake finished their last game in an Argo uniform. The Argos finish the season 10-13 and return their core for next season.

 

Argo Women Knock Off Dominican on Senior Night

The Argo women used poise and strong free throw shooting to secure a 74-71 victory over visiting Dominican University. NDNU got down in the early going but battled to take a 37-34 first half lead. The first half was propelled by red hot shooting as the Argos connected on 7 of 13 from behind the arc. The Argos then used the second half to get aggressive and get to the free throw line. The Argos were 22 of 27 from the line in the second half. NDNU got down by two points at the beginning of the second half but then took the lead at the 15:30 mark and got out to a six point lead until the closing minutes of the game. The tandem of Olivia Williams and Lola Browne tried their best to keep the Penguins close and tied the game up but then NDNU won the game from the line. Tamsen Lee led the balanced Argo attack with 20 points. Amanda Monteith added 15 points and 8 rebounds as was 8 of 10 from the free throw line. Point guard Helen Suarez notched 10 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 assists. Grace Hartman added 10 points, and senior Marie Fredlake added 8 big points for the Argos. The win marked the first victory over Dominican in the last 5 years. Lee needs just one more three point bucket to break the single season three point field goal record, which would be her third record broken in her career.

 

NDNU Slips Past Jessup in Final Seconds

Amanda Monteith scored the game winning lay-up with five seconds remaining to lead NDNU past William Jessup in Roseville on Tuesday night. The Argos held a two point advantage going into halftime and spread the lead to 10 in the second half but could not shake Jessup. Jessup came back to take a three point advantage before NDNU made a late offensive attack. With the game within one  point, Monteith was fouled underneith the basket and went to the line for two shots, where she made one to tie the score at 45. The Argos then forced a turnover on Jessup's next possession which led to the game winning possession. After a time-out, Jessup came out in a trapping defense and NDNU scrambled and Tamsen Lee managed to find Amanda Monteith open on the left baseline, where Monteith drove uncontested for the lay-up. Jessup launched a three-pointer at the buzzer which came up just short. Lee finished with 20 points and Monteith with 9 points and 8 rebounds. NDNU improves to 9-11 on the season.

 

Menlo Outlasts NDNU in OT, 63-59

Amanda Monteith hit two free throws to tie the game as time expired to lead NDNU into overtime but Menlo outscored the Argos 15-11 in the extra period. The story of the overtime period was free throws just as it was in the first half, as the Oaks were 7 of 10 from the line in overtime. NDNU began the game with aggressive defense and took the early lead and as the game went back and forth, Menlo took the halftime lead. Menlo went into the intermission with a 30-24 lead and although NDNU hit one more three-pointer then Menlo, the Oaks were 9 of 10 from the line. Menlo's, Kepua Lee put her team on her back in the extra period as she had 8 points and a game high of 26 points on 9 of 19 shooting. Tamsen Lee led the Argos with 19 points. Meanwhile, Monteith added 14 points and Grace Hartman added 13 points. Nicole Johnson was the other Oak player to score in double figures as she finished with 17 points. The two teams combined for 55 turnovers in a pressure filled game. Neither team shot well as Menlo had the slight advantage with a 35% and NDNU was 34.5% from the field.  NDNU drops to 7-11 on the season and Menlo improves to 15-3.
