NDNU Topples Hawaii-Hilo in Four Games October 28 – The Notre Dame de Namur women’s volleyball took their second straight conference match against Hawaii-Hilo in four games (18-30, 30-23, 30-26, 30-19). The Vulcans once again jumped out to an early lead by taking game one. UHH notched 15 kills in the opening game and hit .333. The Argos bounced back in the second game, using 15 kills to even the match at one game apiece. NDNU rallied to big leads in both the third and fourth games to put the Vulcans away and improve to 13-21 on the season. Hawaii-Hilo had two more kills than NDNU (56-54), but the Argos got a boost from their serving game, racking up 14 aces. The Argos were once again paced by four players with double digit kills, led by Marissa Miller’s 18. Sarah Perry added 13 kills and six blocks while Emily Evans and Caitlin Torres connected on 12 and 10 kills respectively. Miller also finished with 23 digs and four aces. Jennifer McMurtry recorded 46 assists and Lauren Quach added five aces and 13 digs. The Vulcans got a game high 28 kills from Taina Savage while Olevoa Desarri finished with 13. The Argos finish up their season next week with a trip to Cal State East Bay and then return home for pair of matches against Grand Canyon. Box Score
Argos Push Past Hawaii-Hilo 3-1 October 27 – The NDNU women’s volleyball team rallied back from an early deficit to claim their first Pac West win of the season over Hawaii Hilo 3-1 (27-30, 30-23, 30-21, 30-26). The Argos found themselves down a game despite out killing the Vulcans 17-14 in the opening game. However, NDNU’s balanced attack proved to much for Hawaii-Hilo as the Argos took the final three games. NDNU racked up a season high 70 kills and added seven aces while Hilo countered with 51 kills and three aces. The Argos attack was led by a season high four players with double digit kills. Marissa Miller led the way with 20 kills, while Sarah Perry added 18 and hit .444. Caitlin Torres picked up 14 kills and Emily Evans notched 12 of her own. Miller, Perry and Torres all recorded season highs in kills with Miller also adding 27 digs. Shauna Folan had a game high 29 digs and Lauren Quach had 20. Jennifer McMurtry also set an Argo season high with 60 assists. Taina Savage led the way for the Vulcans, picking up 18 kills, while Kaniu Hernandez and Olevao Desarri added 12 and 10 respectively. The Argos improved to 12-21 on the season and moved to 1-12 in conference play. These two teams will face off again tomorrow night at Walter Gleason Gym at 7:00 pm. Box Score
Argos Topple CSU Stanislaus in Four Games October 24– The Notre Dame de Namur volleyball team overcame an early one game deficit to beat CSU Stanislaus in Tuesday's non-conference match. The Argos found themselves behind after a 30-24 victory by the Warriors in the first game. NDNU responded by taking the final three games to win the match 3-1 (24-30, 30-22, 30-27, 30-24). The Argos racked up 59 kills on the night and added nine aces on their way to their 12th victory of the season. Marissa Miller picked up a season high 19 kills and also added 19 digs and three aces. Caiitlin Torres tacked on a career best 13 kills while Shauna Folan recorded 29 digs. Sarah Perry led the Argos defensivly, picking up seven blocks (2 solo, 5 assisted). The Warriors were paced by three players with double digit kills, with Liz Cameron leading the way with 15. Cameron would also add four of the team's ten aces. The Argos return to Pac West play this Friday and Saturday with matches against Hawaii-Hilo at Walter Gleason Gym. Box Score
Chaminade Sweeps Argos October 20 – The Notre Dame de Namur Argonauts could not hold off the Chaminade Silverswords, falling in three games (22-30, 16-30, 21-30). Chaminade used big leads in all three games to get ahead of the Argos and never look back. The Silverswords hit .378 for the match, including .500 in the first game of the night. Overall, they out killed the Argos 51 to 30 and added 10 aces. Val Adams led NDNU with eight kills on the night, while Marissa Miller and Emily Evans added six apiece Jennifer McMurtry and Shasta Millhollin combined for 26 kills with Shauna Folan picking up 11 digs. The Silverswords got a game high 10 kills from Brittnee Fonnesbeck and nine from Evelyn Bluthenthal to lead their attack. Tamara Kauliakamoa added 40 assists and three aces while Marijana Stanic recorded 17 digs. These two teams will square off again tomorrow night at Walter Gleason Gym at 7:00pm. Box Score
Argos Split on Day Two of TournamentOctober 14– The NDNU Argonauts split a pair of matches on the second day of the Cal State East Bay Wild West Tournament to finish 3-1 for the event. The Argos split their final two matches, sweeping Dominican (30-22, 30-26, 30-27) and losing to Cal State East Bay (23-30, 23-30, 26-30). NDNU collected 62 kills against Dominican and hit .331 for the match. In the CSUEB match, the Argos were out killed 51 to 40 and commited nine more errors than Pioneers. Marissa Miller connected on 18 kills in the win over Dominican while Val Adams added 13 of her own. Emily Evans was the third Argo in double digits with 12 kills. Joanna Gresh had a NDNU season high 55 assists with Shauna Folan contributing 17 digs. Evans and Miller combined for 23 kills in a losing effort to CSU East Bay. The Argos currently sit at 10-19 on the season and continue with Pac West play on Friday and Saturday when they host Chaminade for a pair of matches. Dominican Box Score
NDNU Sweeps Opening Day of Wild West Tournament October 13– The Notre Dame de Namur volleyball went 2-0 on the opening day of the Cal State East Bay Wild West Tournament. The Argos swept both Menlo College (30-23, 30-20, 31-29) and UC Santa Cruz (30-15, 30-26, 30-20) on their way to improving to 9-18 on the season. NDNU had a season high kill percentage of .358 in the match against Menlo and followed that up by out killing Santa Cruz 40 to 26. Emily Evans led the attack against Menlo, connecting on 15 kills while Marissa Miller added 13. Jennifer McMurty recorded 43 assists and Shauna Folan had 22 digs. Menlo was paced by Deborah Bekowies and Sanoe Eselu who finished with 12 and 11 kills respectively. Miller tallied 11 kills in the win over Santa Cruz while Shasta Millhollin picked up 35 assists. Argos Drop Second Straight to Hawaii Pacific October 10 – The Argonauts lost their second straight match to Hawaii Pacific who completed a season sweep of NDNU with a three game victory. The Argos battled tough in the first game, tying the score at 28-28 before HPU won the next two points and took the game. The Sea Warriors won the final two games, connecting on 26 kills and five aces. For the game, HPU tallied 45 kills and had 21 errors while the Argos managed 38 kills and committed 20 errors. NDNU dropped to 7-18 on the season and are now 0-10 in Pac West play. Marissa Miller led the Argos attack with 10 kills and also had a team high 14 digs. Caitlin Torres added 8 kills and hit .357 on the match while also blocking three attacks. Barbara Martin once again had a game high 15 kills and added 13 digs. Lindsay Balfour recorded 38 assists and 11 digs. The Argos are off to Hayward this week to play in the CSU East Bay Shootout on Friday and Saturday. Box Score
Hawaii Pacific Down Argos in Three Games October 9 – The NDNU volleyball team suffered another tough loss in conference play, falling to 7-17 on the season. The Argos were swept by the visiting Hawaii Pacific Sea Warriors (29-31,21-30,23-30) and dropped to 0-9 in Pac West play. The Sea Warriors came from behind to take the first game before winning the final two and completing the sweep. HPU tallied 53 kills on the night to 42 from the Argos who also committed nine more errors. Marissa Miller, Emily Evans and Caitlin Torres tied for the team lead in kills with nine apiece. Joanna Gresh and Jennifer McMurtry combined for 38 assists while Lauren Quach added 19 digs. Barbara Martin led all players with 20 kills for the Sea Warriors and Malia Pires added ten of her own. Lindsay Balfour recorded 38 assists and 15 digs. These two teams will square off again tomorrow night for the last time at 7:00 pm at Walter Gleason Gym. Box Score
Argos Fall to #8 BYU Hawaii October 4 – The Notre Dame de Namur Argonauts could not hold off the BYU Hawaii attack for the second straight night, losing in four games (32-30,14-30,24-30,20-30). The Seasiders completed the season sweep of the NDNU and dropped the Argos to 7-16 on the season. NDNU came out strong, mounting a furious comeback and taking the first game 32-30. However, BYU rebounded in the final three games to take the match. NDNU committed just one error in the first game, and 19 in the match compared to 29 from BYU. The Seasiders did out kill the Argos 74-42 and notched 12 aces. Emily Evans paced the Argos attack, connecting on 14 kills and hitting .387. Joanna Gresh recorded a career high 37 assists and Lauren Quach added eight kills and 18 digs. Caitlin Torres picked up six kills and four solo blocks. Michelle Peters led the Seasiders with 24 kills and 23 digs while Noelle Filimoeatu picked up 23. Setter LeeAnn Mapu had a season high 62 assists. The Argos are back in action next Monday against Hawaii Pacific at Walter Gleason Gym at 7:00pm. Box Score
BYU Hawaii Sweeps Argos October 3 – The NDNU women’s volleyball team could not hold off the BYU Hawaii attack, losing in three games to the #8 ranked team. The Seasiders swept the Argos (22-30,12-30,20-30) for the second time this season and dropped NDNU’s record to 7-15. The Argos kept it close in the first game before an eight point spurt by BYU put the game out of reach. In the final two games, the Seasiders proved to be too much, combining for 32 kills and only eight errors. Emily Evans paced the Argos with eight kills, while Jennifer McMurtry added 20 assists. Shuana Folan had a game high 17 digs and Marissa Miller notched 15. BYU Hawaii was led by 14 kills from Michelle Peters and 36 assists by LeeAnn Mapu. Peters added a team high 16 digs. These two teams will square off again tomorrow night for their final match up of the season at 7:00pm at Walter Gleason Gym. The Rebels took the match in four games (28-30, 30-24, 25-30, 22-30), outhitting the Argos 66-45 in the kills department. After losing the first game, NDNU won the second to even the match at one game a piece. Dixie State responded by taking the final two games to end the match. Marissa Miller once again led the Argos in kills with 11 and digs with 19. Emily Evans added 10 kills while Jennifer McMurtry and Shasta Millhollin combined for 34 assists. The Rebels had four players with double digit kills, led by a game high 20 from Cidney Judkins. NDNU gets back into Pac West play on Tuesday and Wednesfay when they host BYU Hawaii for a pair of matches. Box Score
Argos Fall to Dixie State in Three Games September 29– The Notre Dame de Argonauts could not hold off the Dixie State volleyball team, falling in three games (24-30, 25-30, 34-36). The Argos could not get the lead on the Rebels in the first two games, but fought hard in the final game. NDNU trailed 29-23 in the third game, before a furious rally sent the game into extra points. Dixie State eventually took the match by winning the game 36-34. Marissa Miller led the Argos with 12 kills, five aces and 15 digs. Jennifer McMurtry and Shasta Millhollin combined to record 35 assists and seven aces. Dixie State were paced by three players with double digit kills. Cidney Judkins led the way with 11, while Heidi Erickson and Breena Bonnett added 10 kills a piece. The Argos and Rebels will sqaure off again tomorrow night for their second and final match of the season. Box Score
BYU Hawaii Topples NDNU September 23– The NDNU women's volleyball team could not hand BYU Hawaii their first loss of season Saturday night. The Argos were swept by the ninth-ranked Seasiders (16-30, 16-30, 26-30), dropping their record to 7-12 and 0-6 in the PacWest. Emily Evans led the Argonauts with eight kills while Marissa Miller added seven. Shauna Folan had 16 digs and Miller picked up 11 in the loss. Joanna Gresh had a team high 14 assists for the Argos. BYU Hawaii recorded 53 kills on the match, led by Michelle (Tuli) Peters with 16 and Noelle Filimoeatu with 13. LeeAnn Mapu put up 44 assists while Kaala Lo served six aces and added eight digs. The Argos travel to Utah to face Dixie State on Friday and Saturday before returning home for more Pac West play. Box Score
Argos Suffer Tough Loss to Hawaii Pacific September 22 – The Notre Dame de Namur Argonauts dropped their third straight match of the Hawaii trip, falling to Hawaii Pacific in three games (27-30, 31-33, 25-30). The Argos battled all night, with each of the three games remaining close before the Sea Warriors eventually prevailed. HPU out hit NDNU 48-39 and committed nine fewer errors. Marrisa Miller once again led the Argos with 11 kills and added 13 digs. Sarah Perry picked up double digit kills with 10, while Jennifer McMurtry recorded 23 assists. Malia Pires led all players with 14 kills for the Sea Warriors and also added 11 digs. Lindsay Balfour dished out 38 assists in the win. Chaminade Sweeps NDNU September 20 – The Notre Dame de Namur Argos dropped the second match of their Hawaii trip to Chaminade University, 3-0 (30-27, 30-28, 30-27). The Argos fought hard in all three games, but could not take one from the Swords. NDNU committed only 14 errors on the night, but were out hit 59-33. Marrisa Miller and Emily Evans led the Argo attack, combining for 17 of the teams 33 kills. Miller also added six aces and six digs, while Jennifer McMurtry recorded 18 assists. The Swords had three players with double digit kills, led by Trina Kauliakomoa with 18. Evelyn Bluthenthal and Brittnee Fonnesbeck contributed 11 kills a piece and Tamara Kauliakamoa racked up 42 assists. The Argos are back in action Friday night. against Hawaii-Pacific. Box Score
Hawaii Hilo Topples Argos in Four Games September 18– Hawaii Hilo used great defensive play to came back from a game down to defeat Notre Dame de Namur University in four games (26-30, 30-27, 30-27, 30-22). The Argos jumped out to an early 1-0 lead thanks to 16 kills in the first game. However, the Vulcans' 106 defensive digs and eight team blocks held the Argonauts to a .119 attack percentage for the match. Marissa Miller and Emily Evans once again led the NDNU attack, recording 16 and 15 kills repectively. Sarah Perry added seven blocks for the Argos. Taina Savage connected on a game high 29 kills to pace the Vulcans', while Kahealani added 42 assists. The Argos will play the second game of their Hawaii trip Wednesday night against Chaminade. Argos Hold Off Pioneers in Five Games September 15 – The NDNU Argonauts defeated Cal State East Bay in five games (30-27, 30-21, 28-30, 22-30, 15-12) to improve to 7-8 on the season. The Argos jumped out to an early two game lead before the Pioneers won the next two to force a decisive fifth game. Notre Dame used seven kills in the final game to put CSUEB away and claim the win. The two teams were very close in the kills department, with the Argos having the slight edge 63-59. NDNU capitalized on the 36 hitting errors from the Pioneers and added ten team blocks. Marissa Miller delivered a season high 19 kills, while Emily Evans added 17 and hit .412 on the match. Jennifer McMurtry recorded 32 assists and Shasta Millhollin picked up five aces. Kristen Cameron led Cal State East Bay with 12 kills and Sarah Kolstad added ten of her own. The Argos are off to Hawaii next week to play four conference matches against Hawaii-Hilo, Hawaii-Pacific, BYU Hawaii and Chaminade. Box Score
Monterey Completes Season Sweep of NDNU September 12 - The Argos could not hold off the Monterey Bay attack, dropping their second match of the season the Otters. The Argos fell to 6-8 on the year, losing in four games (30-25, 28-30, 30-25, 30-21). the Otters had ten aces in the match. CSUMB racked up ten aces on the match and out killed the Argos. Kim Sordello led the Otters with 13 kills, followed by Brittany Etchings with 12 kills and 4 aces. Nicky Sanderson led the squan with 20 assists. Notre Dame was led by Marissa Miller's 15 kills and 4 aces. In game 2, the Otters led 25-22 before a fierce Argo comeback gave them the game. CSUMB then came out strong in the last two games, hitting .285 and .325 to finish off the Argos. NDNU is back home Friday night for a match with CSU East Bay at 7:00 pm. Box Score Lady 'Lopes Topple Argos Again September 9 - Grand Canyon University swept NDNU for the second time in as many days and dropping the Argos to 6-7 on the season. The Lady 'Lopes came out strong and never looked back, winning the three games 30-27, 30-23, and 30-21. The Argos racked up eight more kills (44-36) than GCU, but committed twice as many errors (30-15). Marissa Miller connected on a season high 17 kills with Emily Evans adding 11 of her own. The Lady Lopes were led by Megan Taylor's 28 assists, 5 kills and four aces. Dana Edington had a team high 8 kills for the second straight match. NDNU is back in action Tuesday, September 12th at CSU Monterey before returning home for a match on Friday, September 15 against CSU East Bay. Box Score
NDNU Falls to Grand Canyon in Pac-West Opener September 8 - The Argos dropped to 6-6 on the season, losing their Pacific West Conference opener to Grand Canyon University 3-0 (23-30, 22-30, 26-30). The Lady 'Lopes used several strong performances to rack up 51 kills to only 33 from NDNU. Freshman Dana Edington led the way with 13 kills, while Tonya Rooth and Emily Thompson connected on 11 and 10 kills respectively. Emily Evans had a team high 11 kills and hit .421 for the game. Shasta Millhollin added 15 assists for the Argos in defeat. NDNU is back in action tomorrow Saturday, September 9, 2006 at 7:00 PM against the same Grand Canyon Lady 'Lopes. Box Score
Argos Down Warriors in Four Games September 5 - NDNU improved to 6-5 on the season, defeating CSU Stanislaus in four games (18-30, 30-27, 30-23, 30-27). The Argos fell behind early, losing the first game by 12. However, NDNU turned the match around in the second game and went on to win the final three. The Argos ripped 64 kills on the night, compared to just 44 from the Warriors. Emily Evans and Marissa MIller led all players with 14 kills apiece, while Sarah Perry and Lauren Quach added 11 each. Jennifer McMurtry came up big for the Argos, delivering a game high 36 assists and five aces. Shauna Foley led the way with 23 digs, with Quach adding 22 and Miller adding 21. Karly Van Foeken had 10 kills for Stanislaus and Kayla Van Duyn contributed 21 digs and 29 assists. The Argos are back on the road this weekend as they travel to Phoenix, AZ to take on Grand Canyon University for two matches. Box Score
NDNU Sweeps LaGrange Twice, Takes Third Place September 2 - The Argos finished up the Extended Stay Deluxe Invitational with a bang, defeating LaGrange College twice. NDNU swept both matches (30-13, 30-11, 30-18) (30-9, 31-29, 30-15) to improve to 3-1 in the tournament. In the first match, outside hitter Lauren Quach had 15 kills and 12 digs. Val Adams added nine kills while setter Jennifer McMurtry had 22 assists and five aces. LaGrange was led by Kiley Kirkpatrick’s six kills. NDNU once again swept LaGrange in the Consolation Game to take third place in the tournament. Emily Evans led the way, delivering 13 kills and six aces. The Argos also got nine kills and nine digs from outside hitter Lauren Quach, while middle blocker Sarah Perry put up eight total blocks, including six solos. Argos Split In First Day of Alaska Tournament September 1 - The NDNU volleyball team finished the opening day of the Extended Stay Deluxe Invitational with a 1-1 record. The Argos started off the day with a sweep of Briar Cliff University (35-33, 30-23, 32-30) in the first match. Outside hitter Marissa Miller had 16 kills and 18 digs while Emily Evans added 12 kills. The Argors also got 26 digs from Shauna Folan as they opened their round-robin schedule with a victory. BCU was led by 14 kills and 15 digs from outside hitter Renee Beiermann. The second match did not go as well for NDNU, losing to the University of Alaska-Anchorage in three games (23-30, 31-33, 20-30). UAA took early leads in every game and had 52 kills, compared to 39 from the Argos. Chelsey Jones led the Seawolves with 12 kills and Tehane Kahalehau added a match high 36 assists. NDNU Drops Home Opener to Monterey August 30 - The Notre Dame de Namur Argonauts lost their first home match of the 2006 season to the Monterey Bay Otters in four games (32-34, 23-30, 32-30, 30-17). The Otters jumped out early, taking the first two games of the match. The Argos bounced back to take game three, but could not hold off Monterey in the fourth game. The Otters beat NDNU in the kills department (65-39) and limited their mistakes, committing just 22 to the Argos 28. Marissa Miller was the NDNU standout with 14 kills, but Monterey’s Brittany Etchings led all players with 20. Etchings committed only four errors and was second on the team with 21 digs. Jennifer McMurtry (NDNU) had a team high 23 assists and Shasta Millhollin added 14 despite playing only one game. Nikki Sanderson had a game high 33 assists for the Otters, while Katie Bos came up with 27 digs. The Argos travel to Alaska this weekend to play in the U of A Alaskan Tournament before returning home on Tuesday, September 5 to face CSU Stanislaus. Box Score
