Freshmen Orientation

The President, Deans, faculty, and staff of Notre Dame de Namur University invite you and your family to attend Argo Orientation – the key to a successful beginning to your NDNU experience.

NDNU Orientation provides you with:

  • Early, on-site advising and registration for classes
  • An overview of academic requirements and the Core Curriculum program
  • Information about your major and assistance from a faculty advisor in planning your class schedule
  • Knowledgeable students & staff to answer your questions about college life and campus resources
  • The opportunity to learn about your NDNU e-mail and student account

Families will participate in a concurrent family orientation program geared specifically towards families. Attendees will:

  • Meet with Administrators and faculty to review NDNU programs and academics
  • Attend a parent panel with current students and their parents
  • Attend informational workshops covering your student’s life at NDNU

Assessments

All students are required to take the Math Placement Assessment prior to registration.  This exam will be offered on the morning of your Orientation session or during Week of Welcome (WOW!). Some students will be required to take the Modern Language assessment.

Orientation Sessions

Each Orientation session is one full day beginning at 7:30a.m. and ending at 4:15p.m.  The program is designed to prepare you for registration and to help you learn what to expect from NDNU.  The information and assistance available to you make Orientation the best source of information about Notre Dame de Namur University.

Sessions are assigned on a first-come, first-served basis.  If your first choice is full, you will be assigned to your next preferred session.

Fees

All students are charged a one-time $175 Orientation fee applied directly to their account (family members are $15 per person). The fee covers the student’s summer Orientation session and Week of Welcome workshops and events (August 27– September 5).  Payment can be made over the phone, online, or when you arrive for Orientation.

Move-in

Freshmen attending a summer orientation sessions I-III will be allowed to move-in on Thursday, August 26th from 10am-6pm.  Freshmen attending Session VI may move-in on Wednesday, August 25th from 1:00pm-6:00pm.  Freshmen participating in the Argo Adventure program will be allowed to store their items in their room assignment, then move-in upon their return from the trip on Wednesday, August 25.

Argo Adventures Program

Argo Adventures is an exclusive program for new NDNU freshmen.  The program has been individually designed to foster an experiential learning opportunity.  This program will provide an environment for new students to meet and interact with classmates.

Argo Adventures strives to:

  • Establish teamwork amongst new freshmen
  • Build relationships to ease transition into college life
  • Expose new NDNU student to new experiences

Students can register during their orientation session or can complete registration on line.  The cost is $150 per person.  The dates are tentatively August 23-25.

Week of Welcome (WOW!)

Week of Welcome is separate from the summer sessions that you have attended during the summer.  This is a required engaging program for all new Freshmen to assist you in your transition into NDNU. All freshmen are required to enroll in the Week of Welcome course during their advising session at Orientation.

During WOW! you will be:

  • oriented to additional departments and services at NDNU,
  • attending sessions to assist you to be a successful NDNU student,
  • participating in community-based learning experience with faculty and your RA,
  • participating in many social events to introduce you to your fellow classmates, and
  • having fun!!

Additionally, you will receive resource materials and your Student Handbook.  WOW! sessions begin Friday, August 27 and end September 1. All Freshmen are required to attend all sessions and events (attendance will affect your grade for your ld you not attend sessions). Students will receive their WOW! schedule booklet at the Family Dinner on Thursday, August 26th. This booklet must be turned in promptly after WOW! ends.
