Campus Life

The Student Conduct System

The University expects students to conduct themselves as responsible individuals, respecting the rights and differences of others.  All members of the University community have a strong responsibility to protect and maintain an academic climate in which the fundamental freedom to learn can be enjoyed by all.  A student's inappropriate conduct at the University or indirect connection with any University or University-related activity violates the Student Code of Conduct whenever it is detrimental to the security, personal safety, and/or employee and student welfare.

Misconduct at the University is categorized by the nature of the violation, that is, whether it is academic or non-academic in nature.

Cases of alleged academic misconduct are referred to the Director of Student Development & Responsibilty.  Cases can be heard either administrativiely or can be referred to the Student Conduct Board by a faculty member after consulting with his/her dean.   Students can also request a Student Conduct Board hearing if a Level Two appeal with the student ombudsperson is not satisfactory. The reporting faculty member will be asked to participate in the hearing.

Any reports of alleged non-academic misconduct are reviewed by the Office of Student Development and Responsibility. Typically, cases involving resident students are heard by Housing & Residence Life staff members and cases involving non-resident students are heard by the Graduate Assistant for Student Development & Responsibility.   For cases that involve what the University would consider more serious policy violations, they are heard by the Director of Student Development & Responsibility or the Student Conduct Board.

For more information on the Student Conduct System, please refer to the NDNU Student Handbook.  Hard copies of the Handbook are available from the Campus Life Office and the Office of Student Development & Responsibility.

Faculty and staff can consult with the Director of Student Development and Responsibility about any student conduct matter.
