Living Off Campus
Room in Private Home:
A room in a private home is most suitable for a student who prefers a quiet lifestyle. Many homeowners in the surrounding area offer private rooms, usually with a private bath, to students. Generally, the renter has access to other parts of the house, including the kitchen, bathroom, etc.
Having a roommate is one of the best ways to reduce your financial cost. Roommate situations can indicate either your own bedroom within a shared apartment/house, or a shared bedroom with one or two other people.
- Standard - Apartments are defined by the number of bedrooms they have. One and two-bedroom units are most popular, but there are also some three bedroom apartments available. These have separate kitchens and sometimes more than one separate bathroom.
- Efficiency - An efficiency is comparable to a “bachelor apartment”. There is only one room with a separate bathroom. Most include a microwave or hot plate, but no other cooking facilities.
- Studio - A studio is comparable to a “single.” These units consist of one room with a separate bathroom and kitchen.
Most houses for rent have at least 2 bedrooms. This is a good option for those who have pets, family or want a yard.
A guest house is a separate unit in the back or side of a larger private home. These are usually either a single room or a living room and bedroom, and generally include bathroom and kitchen facilities.
