Frequently Asked Questions

WHAT IS NICAARGO 5k?

NDNU is sponsoring the NicaArgo 5K Run/Walk in support of and in solidarity with Sisters Rebecca Trujillo and Sr. Sandra Price, Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur, who work tirelessly to promote education in Nicaragua and especially for children with special needs and their families. Students and staff from Matagalpa, Nicaragua will be walking on the same day that NDNU, a school in the Netherlands, and possibly others walk to bring attention to the need for education for all people and especially for children with disabilities. Come and join us as we walk in solidarity with Nicaragua and others around the world!

WHAT MAKES NICAARGO 5K DIFFERENT THAN ANY OTHER EVENT ON THIS PLANET?

As some of you may know, the foundress of the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur, St. Julie Billiart, was disabled for many years. She was bed-ridden for over twenty years of her life and in spite of this, she educated people young and old in matters of faith and general education throughout her lifetime. Here at NDNU in Belmont we have a special love for and commitment to education and honoring the dignity and sacredness of all people (NDNU Hallmark Value).

HOW DO I SIGN UP?

Register online by October 15th, and be entered into a raffle to win a $25 gift card to Menchies Yogurt in Belmont!

DO I HAVE TO RUN?

Absolutely NOT! NicaArgo is about coming out to support a good cause and at the same time engage in some exercise and fun for our bodies and souls!  Run, walk, jog, dance…whatever makes you feel alive and well! Feel the love of NicaArgo however you choose, and feel good about being active along the way and making a difference!

IS THIS A TIMED RUNNING EVENT?

Serious runners will begin at 8:00 AM and will be timed. Leisure runners/walkers will begin at 8:30 AM and may or may not be timed- either way, there will be prizes and celebration for all who participate in the race! All participants are asked to complete the race by 12 noon.

ARE STROLLERS ALLOWED?

Yes- stroll your heart out. NicaArgo is a family affair!

IS THERE AN AGE LIMIT?

All ages are welcome. If you are under 18, your parent or guardian must sign your waiver. Kids 7 and under can enter for half price ($5). There is no upper age limit on the race - all are welcome!

ARE ANIMALS ALLOWED?

Although we love our 4 legged friends, unfortunately they are not allowed at the NicaArgo 5K. Thank you for understanding and respecting this!

SHOULD I GO AS AN INDIVIDUAL OR AS A TEAM?

Most things in life are better with friends by your side, and NicaArgo 5K is no different. Get your friends and family to sign up with you or go at it individually and make friends along the way.

WHAT SHOULD I WEAR TO NICAARGO 5K?

Whatever you want - as long as it is family friendly (please remember children of all ages will be present)! By all means show some personality and dress in creative costumes, dress up as your favorite super hero or cartoon character, etc!

WHERE DO I GO ON RACE DAY?

NicaArgo 5K is taking place on Notre Dame de Namur University's campus. We are located at 1500 Ralston Ave., Belmont, CA 94002; we are on Ralston Ave., about a half mile West (up the hill) from the El Camino. When you arrive, drive up the hill at the entrance. Students will be there to tell you where to go from here. Registration for the 5K will take place on the lawn in front of the NDNU library.

WHAT HAPPENS AFTER I FINISH THE 5K JOURNEY?

Kick back, socialize and re-energize! There will be food and refreshments along with games and prizes! There will be special booths for children including face painting, a pie throwing contest and more! Stay a while and get to know your community after the race is over!

HOW DO I VOLUNTEER AND WHAT DO I GET FOR BEING A PART OF THE NICAARGO TEAM?

Please contact sprzybus@student.ndnu.edu or ajobin@ndnu.edu . We will contact you as we get closer to the event and let you know how and if we could use your help.

DO I HAVE TO SIGN THE WAIVER AND HOW DO I DO THIS?

YES! In order to participate and attend the event in any capacity - as a runner, walker, or volunteer - you have no choice but to sign the waiver form (thank you in advance for your cooperation). These will be available on the day of the event at the registration table.

IF I SUBMIT THE VOLUNTEER FORM DOES THAT MEAN I AM OFFICIALLY ON THE VOLUNTEER TEAM?

Once we get closer to the day of the 5K, the volunteer squad will be finalized and we will contact you with the details, such as where you are expected to meet, at what time, etc. Submitting the form does NOT guarantee your spot on the volunteer squad, but it greatly enhances your chances of being able to volunteer - and we appreciate you offering to give of your time!

AS A VOLUNTEER, WHAT WILL I ACTUALLY DO?

If you are part of the volunteer squad, you will help with various and needed parts of the event. You might help at registration, you might help set up the course, giving out water or snacks, or you might help clean up.

IS THERE AN AGE LIMITATION ON VOLUNTEERING?

You must be at least 18 years old to volunteer.
