Notre Dame de Namur University Shares Thanksgiving Lunch With San Francisco Homeless
Belmont, CA, November 20, 2012 — On Thursday, a Thanksgiving meal of grand proportions will be shared in San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park. Volunteers from Notre Dame de Namur University will share lunch with several hundred homeless people at the 20th annual “Thanksgiving in the Park” from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Students, staff, faculty and alumni from the university will bring a picnic lunch to the panhandle section of the park, on the Stanyan Street side between Oak and Haight Streets, and offer to share their meal and stories with the residents of the park. Each year, approximately 300–450 homeless join the Notre Dame de Namur University group for lunch, along with their animal companions. VET SOS, a volunteer project that provides free veterinary care to the companion animals of homeless San Franciscans, will also be present at the lunch to provide assistance, and donations of dog food, leashes, toys, dog sweaters and other dog accessories will be available.
Thanksgiving in the Park is organized by the university’s Sister Dorothy Stang Center for Social Justice and Community Engagement and the Bonner Leaders.
