Notre Dame de Namur University Appoints Long Time San Francisco State Senior Administrator Richard Giardina as Interim Provost

Belmont, CA, April 23, 2008 — Notre Dame de Namur University today announced the appointment of Richard Giardina, Ph.D. former  Associate Vice President for Academic Planning and Assessment at San Francisco State University, as Interim Provost.

As provost, Dr. Giardina will be NDNU’s chief academic officer. Since his retirement from S.F. State in 2005, Giardina has been an adjunct associate director of the Western Association of Schools & Colleges (WASC), the accreditation body for senior colleges and universities in California, Hawaii, and the Pacific region.  At S.F. State he was responsible for assessment, accountability, accreditation, academic planning, and academic program review. He has also overseen undergraduate studies, graduate education, and international programs.

He is a graduate of Fordham University and holds a Ph.D. in International Politics from Princeton University.

I expect Dr. Giardina to make immediate, significant contributions to NDNU’s long-term planning and assessment processes in addition to the other areas that normally fall under the provost.”
