Top Regis College Academic Officer Paul Ewald Named Provost

at Notre Dame de Namur University

Belmont, Calif., July 29, 2013 — Notre Dame de Namur University is proud to announce the appointment of Paul Ewald, Ph.D. as provost beginning September 1. He succeeds Diana Demetrulias, Ph.D. who announced her retirement earlier this year.

Ewald has been dean of Regis College at Regis University in Denver since 2002.

He was formerly associate to the chancellor at Antioch University and held faculty appointments at Westmar College, the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater and the University of New England. His academic and scholarly work included a post-doctoral fellowship in gerontology in the Alaskan interior, a Fulbright Scholar’s award in Hungary and a Fulbright-Hayes team project in Brazil. Ewald has a B.A. from Creighton University, an M.S.Ed. from Eastern Illinois University and a Ph.D. in Educational Psychology from the University of Florida.

“Paul brings a wealth of experience in Catholic higher education and has had significant success in helping Regis increase enrollment, boost its academic profile and reshape its core curriculum,” said NDNU President Judith Maxwell Greig, Ph.D. “We look forward to having him share his experience and passion for Catholic higher education with our faculty, staff and students.”

“I was attracted to NDNU for many reasons including its small size, its rich Catholic heritage and the heritage of the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur,” Ewald said. “At a time when all the talk about higher education seems to center on job preparation, I appreciate NDNU’s insistence on maintaining a strong focus on the liberal arts as well as professionally-oriented learning.”
