NDNU Theatre Presents Onstage/Backstage Farce “Noises Off”
Belmont, CA, March 31, 2011 — The New York Post called Michael Frayn’s “Noises Off” the “funniest farce ever written.” Since its premiere in 1982, “Noises Off” has become one of the most popular plays in the English language. The feverishly paced, hilarious door slamming comedy will be presented by the Notre Dame de Namur University Department of Theatre and Dance, April 8 through 17 at the NDNU Theatre in Belmont.
“Noises Off” follows an American acting company’s struggles to prepare and perform a British sex comedy called “Nothing On.” The flirtations and foibles of the actors and crew provide the abundantly fertile ground for playwright Frayn who propels the actors through a nonstop series of verbal and physical gymnastics.
“Noises Off” is directed by Michael Elkins, Chair of the NDNU Department of Theatre and Dance, and features an acting ensemble of NDNU Theatre Arts majors, alumni and one visiting artist. The students, all veterans of multiple NDNU theatre productions, include: Morgan Lewis as Dotty Otley, the aging star; John Paul Manfredi as Frederick Fellowes, the matinee idol; John Babin as Garry Lejeune, the frenetic comic; Ian Hazdovac as Selsdon Mowbray, the legendary melodrama actor; Nicole Rodrigues as Brooke Ashton, the stylish bombshell; John Ballas as Tim Allgood, the bumbling, overworked stage manager; Margaret Gorrell as Belinda Blair, the charming and sophisticated team player; Danielle Vivion as Poppy Norton-Taylor, the harried assistant stage manager; and George Metropulos as Lloyd Dallas, the, almost, legendary stage director.
NDNU Theatre and Dance Technical Director and Scenic Designer R. Dutch Fritz has designed and constructed the plays’ impressive set, which is rotated to display both the front and back side of the set during the performance. “Noises Off” also includes the work of costume designer Barbara Kassal; NDNU student lighting designer Jennifer Salmeron (under the direction of Will Springhorn); makeup and hair designer Jennifer Earlywine; stage manager Katerina Schmidt; assistant stage manager is Kymberly Duran; and the NDNU Theatre and Dance Administration and Production Coordinator Mary Hill.
Admission is $10. Performances are April 8, 9, 15, 16 at 7:30 p.m. and April 17 at 2 p.m. For additional information please contact the NDNU Theatre box office at (650) 508-3456 or email email@example.com. The NDNU Theatre is located at 1500 Ralston Avenue, Belmont, CA.
