NDNU Volleyball Team Eearns Team Academic Award
Belmont, CA, 2006 — NDNU's women’s volleyball team had a good year on the court in 2005 but an even better year in the classroom.
As a result the Argos became the only NCAA Division II team in California to receive the Team Academic Award from the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA). The award is given annually by AVCA to teams that achieve and maintain a grade point average of a 3.30 on a 4.0 scale. The Argonauts combined GPA was a gaudy 3.59.
“This award is a great honor for our school,” said Josh Doody, NDNU Athletic Director. “It underscores the importance we place on academics for our athletes. Every one of our players on every team understands that their first responsibility is to their academic program.”
At the beginning of the 2006 year, the AVCA announced a total of 155 schools between Divisions, I, II, and III to receive the award. Division II produced 31 universities that achieved the award with a GPA of 3.3 or higher.
