NDNU Men's Lacrosse Wins League Title
April 17 – The Notre Dame de Namur men's lacrosse team clinched the first ever Western Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (WILA) title with a 13-8 victory over Mesa State. The Argos moved to 7-0 in conference play with the win and have just one game remaining.
NDNU put the game away early, scoring the game's first six goals, including five in the opening period. Greg Bearson and Giovanni Midili scored two first period goals each with Jacob Hiyashi adding another to give the Argos a big cushion early on.
Nick Peterson opened the second period with a man-up goal in the opening minute before Mesa State responded with a pair of goals. However, Rory Galvin and Midili scored the final two goals of the half to send the game to the break at 8-2.
The two teams alternated goals for the rest of the game with neither squad able to gain momentum. After Nathan Hunter-Gerber notched the first goal of the second half, Ryan Hulsey responded 35 seconds later with a goal of his own. Trace Wollner then scored for MSC but Hulsey once again answered to keep it at a six goal game.
Jordan Wagner added a third period goal for NDNU before Bearson tallied a pair of fourth period scores to put the game away.
The Argos held a 24-17 shot advantage heading into the final period before MSC took 22 fourth period shots. The Mavericks also held a 30-23 groundball advantage but NDNU goalie Hunter Adams stopped 12 shots, including eight big saves in the final period.
Bearson led all players with four goals and an assist while Midili added a hat trick. Hulsey and Peterson finished with three points apiece.
The Argos close out the season on April 30th with the "Battle for the Bay" against Dominican at Kezar Stadium at 7:00 pm.
