Deparment of Music

Auditions, Financial Aid, and Scholarships

Auditions

An audition is required for acceptance into all music degree programs.

Auditions for BA and BM undergraduates require two, short compositions from contrasting styles periods. Auditions for BFA in Musical Theater require one musical theater song and one contemporary dramatic monologue. Auditions for graduate degrees require three selections from the three different style periods: Baroque, Romantic, and Classical.

It is preferred that auditions be held on campus, although an off-campus or taped audition is acceptable.

Financial Aid

Scholarships, awards, and work grants are available based on financial need, scholastic achievement, and musical talent.

Certain types of on-campus and off-campus employment are open to all students. Talented music majors are often able to subsidize their education by teaching private applied lessons to elementary and secondary school children in the community, or by accompanying voice and instrumental students. Other musical employment is regularly posted on the Music Department bulletin board.

Scholarships

Currently, the Music Department offers the following endowed music scholarships:

  • The John S. Brooks Memorial Scholarship
  • The Asbjorn Finess Scholarship
  • The Tyll Goodrich Scholarship
  • The Frank Urbano Scholarship
