NDNU Emerging Artist Talent Scholarships

Theatre Students: You could receive between $7,500 and $9,500 per year.

 

Qualifying Process for Fall 2006 Applicants

Founded during the Gold Rush in 1851, NDNU offers small classes, caring professors and a beautiful hillside campus in the Bay Area community of Belmont , California .  Each fall, newly entering Notre Dame de Namur University undergraduates (freshman or transfers) with exceptional talent in art, graphic design, music, theatre or musical theatre are awarded an NDNU Emerging Artist Talent Scholarship valued between $7,500- $9,500 per year of study.

THEATRE

Emerging Artist Scholarship candidates in theatre may focus on Performance - Acting and/or Dance or Production including Design-Technical,  Production Management and Directing. Saturday, February 11 is the preferred audition date. In cases where it is not possible for students to audition in person at NDNU, a videotaped audition may be acceptable but must adhere to the same guidelines.  No candidates will be considered after February 27.

PERFORMANCE


Students interested in Performance must submit a brief theatrical resume (photo not mandatory but preferred) and/ or a "statement of purpose," as well as perform contrasting monologues. Actors are also requested to prepare a short vocal audition.  Dancers may schedule a dance audition.  (An accompanist is not provided but a cassette and CD player will be available.) 

PRODUCTION


Students interested in the Production areas must submit an organized resume and portfolio that includes documentation of previous Production work that will be reviewed and discussed during an on-campus interview.  The portfolio remains with the committee after the interview, but will be returned after March 1, if requested.

MUSICAL THEATRE

 Emerging Artist Scholarship candidates in musical theatre should present a brief theatrical resume (photo not mandatory but preferred), and perform an audition.  The prepared and memorized audition is expected to include two contrasting songs (classical or musical theatre are acceptable) and one short dramatic monologue from a published play.  An accompanist will be provided. In cases where it is not possible for students to audition in person at NDNU a videotaped audition may be acceptable.  Saturday, February 11 is the preferred audition date.  No candidates are considered after February 27.

These scholarships are renewable as long as the recipient maintains NDNU academic eligibility and continues to develop his/ her talent within the awarding department.

FOR ALL CANDIDATES: In every case, a successful candidate must have submitted the regular NDNU admission documents by February 1 and completed all audition/ portfolio requirements no later than February 27.

 

Awards will be announced March 1
