A NOTE FROM THE DIRECTOR:
We would like to invite you into the world of EVOLUTION THROUGH MOTION. Where - FIRE, WATER, WIND, and EARTH move with the changes that become our ultimate expression. Journey with us.from the first sounds of life.. into the RHYTHMS, LINES, SHAPES, and FORMS that create our vision. Where are we headed as the human race? We end the show with Genesis- the belief in a new beginning and the movement that brings us together.
This unique theme was developed by the Choreography and Performance Class at Notre Dame de Namur University. Students were assigned the task of creating a full-length dance production that reflected the structure of a professional company. Tonight's performance is the result of many hours of technical training, hard work, and an original weave of ideas generated by students in the NDNU dance minor program and performed by students from the entire dance program.
ENJOY THE SHOW!
Coleen Lorenz, NDNU Muves Artistic Director, and NDNU Dance Program Director
A NOTE FROM THE DEPT CHAIR:
There is an explosion of dance activity taking place at Notre Dame de Namur University. Over the last two years, the Dance Program at NDNU has been reshaped and revitalized. Significant changes have been made to the dance curriculum, providing a wider variety of dance courses. For the first time at NDNU, students can earn a minor degree in dance by completing at least fifteen units of dance. This opportunity has attracted students from a variety of majors along with students in the Performing Arts Program. Many of these students have extensive training and performance experience and many more are engaging in dance training for the first time. The NDNU Dance Program is designed to energize and encourage all students to explore the many benefits and rewards of dance training and performance while challenging them to perform at increasingly higher levels.
We have also added new faculty members to the Dance Program. Each of them brings a wide range of professional skills and impressive resumes of performance. In the coming semesters, a variety of new courses will be added to the curriculum, including Ballet, Modern, Ethnic Dance, Hip Hop, and Well Being of the Dancer, to name a few. These courses will benefit from the expertise of our current dance faculty along with our new dance instructors, who are already eager to contribute to the program.
In order to provide the best possible showcase for these gifted dancers, the faculty, staff, and students of the NDNU Theatre Department have committed additional time, energy, and imagination to create Evolution Through Motion - NDNU Muves-2005. This production is a product of the creative efforts of Coleen Lorenz and the NDNU dancers. We are grateful to the faculty, staff, students, alumni, and community volunteers who brought Evolution Through Motion to life on the NDNU Theatre stage.
Lastly, Thanks to all of you who are here to witness a part of the NDNU dance explosion.
