Position: Adjunct, with possibility of Tenure Track, Assistant/Associate Professor of Education, Education Specialist, Moderate/Severe, Preliminary Credential

Status: Full-time, 9 month, Tenure Track

General Description:
Notre Dame de Namur University seeks a strong candidate with Special Education experience in a public school setting. The candidate should have the ability to teach and mentor courses in the Preliminary Credential and graduate Special Education. The faculty member will advise students, and collaborate with colleagues on program- and school-wide projects.

Specific Responsibilities/Duties:

  • Preference will be given to candidates who have demonstrated expertise in one or more of the following areas: Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports, ABA, formative and summative assessment, and IEP development.
  • The ideal candidate will have expertise in autism spectrum disorders, and/or severe disabilities.
  • The candidates must be familiar with universal design for learning, technology for individuals with disabilities, and Response to Intervention (RTI).
  • Candidates should show a readiness to participate in school/university partnerships and new initiatives for the purposes of research and teacher preparation, and have a working knowledge of web-based instruction.

Qualifications:

  • Ph.D./Ed.D. required in Special Education or closely related field
  • At least three years of  successful experience teaching , research or administration relating to Special Education
  • Expertise in moderate and severe disabilities
  • Knowledge or experience with teacher preparation and induction
  • Experience in K-12 school systems serving diverse students
  • Successful higher education teaching experience and/or special education administrative experience is preferred

Position: Associate Professor, Tenure Track, Art Therapy Psychology Program

Reports to: Chair of Art Therapy Psychology Program

Status: Full-time (Start Date - Spring 2012)

General Description:
Notre Dame de Namur University is seeking a full-time tenure-track Associate Professor.  The successful candidate will have a Doctorate in Art Therapy or a related field from an accredited university and with significant experience in research, clinical work, and administrative or program leadership responsibilities.  Candidates must be actively involved in scholarly activity commensurate with a faculty assignment to a  master’s and doctoral program, committed to teaching a diverse student population, and dedicated to the University’s mission of diversity, community engagement, and social justice.

Established 32 years ago, the NDNU’s Master of Arts in Art Therapy is recognized nationally and internationally as a leader in the field of art therapy. It is one of very few programs in the country with full-time faculty dedicated exclusively to the Art Therapy Program who are licensed clinicians as well as board certified, registered Art Therapists.  For more than a decade, the program has successfully trained post-master’s students.  Building on this distinction, NDNU is in the final stages for the approval of a doctoral program in Art Therapy, tentatively planned for initiation in fall 2013, pending Board and WASC approval. 

Specific Responsibilities/Duties:

  • Teaching of doctoral-level courses in Art Therapy (doctoral program under development)
  • Teaching of master's-level courses in Art Therapy and Marriage and Family Therapy
  • Dissertation and thesis supervision, administrative responsibilities, and student recruitment retention and advising

General Description:
Assistant to the Director of the Academic Success Center and Administrative Coordinator of a project grant, primary responsibilities.

Specific Responsibilities/Duties:

  1. Data collection and creation and maintenance of databases for Early Warning System, Supplemental Instruction, Students with Disabilities, Tutorial/Writing Center Services, mid-term and semester grades, and project grant services
  2. Organizing meetings; assisting with collaboration for students

Position: Assistant Athletic Trainer

Reports to: Head Athletic Trainer

Status: Full-time, Exempt (9 months/year)

General Description:
Responsibilities will include the assessment of the physical health of student-athletes and the assessment and treatment of injuries incurred by student-athletes while participating in the University's athletic programs.  Additional responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Athletics.

Specific Responsibilities/Duties:

  • Assists with the athletic training coverage for all men’s and women’s intercollegiate teams.
  • Compiles complete and accurate records for each student-athlete injured or treated while participating in athletics.
  • Compiles and updates student-athlete emergency cards and documents.
  • Assist in providing certified athletic training coverage for all home athletic contests.
  • Act as a liaison with Notre Dame de Namur Health Center and Team physicians, with student-athlete physical exams, referrals and treatment of injuries and sickness.
  • Travel with athletic teams as needed.
  • Provide expertise for prevention, evaluation, treatment and rehabilitation of athletic injuries and related illnesses.
  • Coordinate athletic insurance coverage with athletes, health care providers and parents.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or requested.

Qualifications:

  • Masters Degree preferred.
  • Certification by National Athletic Trainers Association required
  • Athletic Training experience at the college or university level.
  • Certification in CPR and First Aid.
  • Instructor Certified for CPR and First Aid preferred.

Position: Assistant Director of Admissions for Articulation (Articulation Officer)

Reports to: Director of Admissions

Status: Full-time, Exempt (Pending continuation of grant funding)

General Description:
The Articulation Officer & Assistant Director (AO/AD) of Admissions will oversee the development of a transfer admission strategy in line with NDNU's recent US Dept of Education grant funding. The grant supports programming that facilitates bachelor’s degree attainment of Hispanic and low-income students from Community Colleges through the development of partnerships, articulation agreements, and services. The AO/AD will develop pipelines of qualified students from identified target institutions and will serve as a resource to students from these institutions who seek to transfer to NDNU. The AO/AD will oversee the transfer credit evaluation process for transfer applicants and coordinate closely with the Registrar's Office to maintain and communicate policies related to transfer credits. The incumbent will form partnerships consistent with NDNU’s already-established articulation agreements between institutions of higher education, and will build effective working relationships with Articulation Officers and Transfer Centers at Community Colleges and Universities in order to expand these agreements.

Specific Responsibilities/Duties:

  • Oversees the development of a transfer admission strategy consistent with funding grant, identifying and networking with targeted partner institutions;
  • Will build effective working relationships with Articulation Officers and Transfer Centers at Community Colleges and Universities;
  • Initiate articulation agreements (at least 3 annually) with Community Colleges, especially those with large numbers of Hispanic and low-income students; extensive travel to Community Colleges to meet with and develop partnerships;
  • Collaborate with admissions transfer counselor, admissions staff, and student ambassadors to implement outreach activities;
  • Serve as transfer admissions counselor for students seeking to transfer to NDNU from partner institutions;
  • Collaborate with Registrar's Office and faculty on transfer credit issues, advocating for transfer-friendly policies and procedures; oversee implementation of transfer credit policies and the transfer credit evaluation process;
  • Demonstrate knowledge specific to California’s Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum (IGETC);
  • Serve as an advocate for the transfer student in transitioning from the community college to NDNU; collaborate with relevant campus offices such as Student Life & Leadership, Academic Success Center, and Retention Services to enhance the transfer student experience at NDNU;
  • Collaborate with coordinate between Admissions and Registrar Offices to maintain an up-to-date calendar of all articulation activities including both internal and external deadlines;
  • Remain aware of issues coming before the Undergraduate Curriculum Committee to provide input and to share information about proposed changes in campus policy and curriculum;
  • Jointly conduct workshops for faculty and staff in relation to articulation and transfer issues, website links, and updates;
  • Become a member of the California Intersegmental Articulation Council, a professional organization of postsecondary articulation officers throughout California whose purpose is to provide a statewide forum for the discussion and resolution of transfer, articulation, and curricular issues;
  • Attend and participate in conferences and workshops regarding transfer articulation issues.

Qualifications:

  • Possess appropriate academic knowledge relating to transfer students and articulation matters;

  • Possess Computer proficient skills in Word and Excel;
  • Good sense of humor is a plus;
  • Fluency in Spanish a plus; comfort working with diverse populations and sensitivity to issues related cultural and socio-economic differences;

Position: Assistant Director of Athletic Fundraising

Reports to: Vice President for Advancement

Status: Part-time, Hourly       

General Description:
The Assistant Director for Athletic Fundraising reports to the Vice President, and is directed by the Athletic Director.  The Assistant Director for Athletic Fundraising will be responsible for realizing gift support on behalf of the Athletics Department at Notre Dame de Namur University from selected alumni, parents, friends, and corporate sponsors.  She/he will initiate and “manage” relationships with those determined to have the ability to make gifts towards sustaining and strengthening athletic activities.  It is expected that strategic face-to-face calls will be made on 6-8 separate individuals per month.  These calls will include identifying, qualifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding gift investments.  She/he will manage the day-to-day activities for the athletic fundraising in coordination with the Director of Athletics as well as the Vice President for Advancement, including developing an ongoing fundraising plan for the department; overseeing events and activities of the Booster Club and Corporate Sponsors; coordinating all sport-specific fundraising events and activities. The Assistant Director will meet on a bi-monthly basis with the Athletic Director, to review her/his performance metrics-----but also will interact heavily with the Director of Development as well as other colleagues and volunteer leadership.

Specific Responsibilities/Duties:

  • Assume and achieve annual fundraising and activity goals.  During any Fiscal Year, a minimum 120 calls are expected to be made, with a minimum $100,000 realized in gifts and underwriting
  • Develop a caseload of active Athletic prospects, and schedule and carry out cultivation/solicitation of these individuals
  • Work independently and be self-motivated in initiating contacts with potential donors
  • Work in a collegial manner with the Advancement team in creating and implementing strategies for cultivation, solicitation, and closure
  • Where appropriate, work with Athletic Director—and coaches-- to identify, cultivate, and solicit undesignated gifts
  • Track all alumni athletes and donors in the database
  • Serves as liaison between athletic department and the central development office
  • Travels locally and out-of-town as necessary; prepares prospect call reports in a timely manner; work evenings and weekends as necessary
  • Manages and prepares for prospect meetings; provides regular updates and progress reports
  • Manage annual athletics fundraising events, including the Golf Tournament
  • Coordinates athletic solicitation appeal including the Booster Club and Corporate sponsors
  • Maintains the Athletic Fundraising website

Position: Dean, College of Arts and Sciences

General Description:

The Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at NDNU serves as the chief academic and administrative officer of the College of Arts and Sciences. The Dean is a visionary leader who takes a primary role in promoting excellence in the implementation of the College’s educational mission including collaborations and partnerships, creation of new programs, fundraising, and external positioning. The Dean is also responsible for faculty and staff hiring and supervision, faculty and staff development, curriculum development, program evaluation, budget management, and enrollment efforts. The Dean provides strong leadership in building relationships with local colleges, organizations, and businesses to support the College teach one course per year.

Specific Responsibilities/Duties:

1. Leadership:

  • Promote excellence in implementation of the college’s educational mission.
  • In cooperation with stakeholders, develop strategic objectives for the College and develop tactics to achieve these objectives.
  • Develop and maintain strong collegial relationships within the College, with the wider University community, and with external organizations.
  • Oversee academic programs within the College.
  • Oversee assessment and continuous improvement processes within the College.
  • Oversee administrative functions within the College.
  • Support mission, vision, and value of university and hallmarks of Sisters of Notre Dame.
  • Provide direct supervision of College program directors, department chairs, and staff.  Provide indirect supervision of other faculty or staff who report to chairs and program directors.
  • Support regional (WASC) and disciplinary accreditation in support of program quality.

2. Faculty Development:

  • Consult regularly with program directors to assure that overall faculty profile is in-line with curriculum plan, market opportunities, and articulation agreements.
  • Provide exemplary teaching.
  • Make recommendations on faculty retention, promotion, and tenure.
  • Conduct evaluations of faculty related to their teaching, advising, service, and administrative responsibilities as described in the faculty handbook.
  • Encourage interdisciplinary teaching both within the College and across the University curriculum.
  • Work with individual faculty to support their professional development.
  • Provide leadership for sponsored research and scholarly productivity consistent with mission.
  • Encourage and support the assessment of academic programs and student learning outcomes.

3. Budget:

  • Develop and manage the College budget.
  • Oversee faculty hiring and generate faculty contracts.

4. Public Relations, Marketing, and Partnership:

  • Work with the Public Information Office and student newspaper to maintain a highly visible profile for the College both internally and externally.
  • Seek opportunities to work with other deans to increase public awareness of University academic programs.
  • In cooperation with Program Directors and department chairs, create community partnerships, and develop opportunities for student internships in external organizations.
  • Contribute content to and edit college websites, brochures, and other marketing materials.
  • Serve as a public relations representative of the University.

5. Enrollment:

  • Demonstrate entrepreneurship and creativity in developing new academic programs to meet changing market needs.
  • Work with Vice President of Enrollment Management to enhance marketing opportunities that build enrollment.
  • Participate as appropriate in information evenings, recruitment events and other enrollment events.
  • Monitor quality of academic programs and student services to enhance student retention.
  • In cooperation with program directors, monitor curriculum development, course cycling, course scheduling, course evaluation, and student advising to optimize enrollment.

6. Fundraising:

  • Develop and maintain an advisory board for the College and oversee any subsidiary individual program advisory boards.
  • Work with University Advancement Office to generate new resources.
  • Demonstrate creativity and leadership in extramural funding.
  • Oversee grant writing, grant maintenance, and reporting.
  • Oversee the organization of College fundraising events.

7. Staff Administration:

  • Oversee staff hiring and evaluation within the College.
  • Oversee staff development within the College.

8. Additional Duties:

  • Teach one course each academic year.
  • Serve on The Council of Deans, President’s Council, and other University groups as designated by the Provost.

Position: Financial Analyst

Reports to: CFO

Status: Full-TIme Staff

Specific Responsibilities/Duties:

  • Obtain thorough knowledge of various grant agreements, monitor compliance with such agreements and prepare various reports in accordance with grant agreements.
  • Create and update various reports using InfoMaker for finance & accounting.
  • Assist Director of Accounting to monitor activities to ensure compliance with applicable internal policies and procedures and external regulations, including monthly, quarterly and annual regulatory filings (e.g. Financial Statement audit, Single Audit, WASC reports, Form 990, various state and local reports, etc.).
  • Assist Director of Planning & Budgets in the budget and forecast process.
  • Input budget into the accounting system.
  • Participate in compliance reviews, projects and training efforts; act on behalf of senior management, as required.
  • Work with members of the finance team to complete month-end close in a timely fashion.
  • Prepare, review and enter monthly journal entries and perform monthly reconciliations as assigned.

  • Review compliance matters in daily activities to ensure regulatory requirements and operating practices are followed in assigned areas.  While ultimate authority for more complex compliance risk management and policy decisions rest with higher management, the position will manage day to day compliance risk and make recommendations to higher management on enhancement and solutions.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or Economics required.
  • 1-3 years experience in accounting/finance.

Position: Library Access Services Manager

Reports to: Director of Library Services

Status: Part-time, Exempt

Supervises: Library Assistants (Circulation and Technical Services) and Student Assistants

General Description:
The Library Access Services Manager at Notre Dame de Namur University is responsible for the oversight and management of all aspects of the Library’s various access services with the primary objective of providing superior library services for the students, faculty and staff.  The Manager performs the administrative and office management functions of the Library and provides assistance to the Library Director on a variety of projects.  The Manager also helps promote a welcoming atmosphere conducive to study and research.

Specific Responsibilities/Duties:

1. Supervision:

  • Supervises, hires, trains, schedules and evaluates Library Assistants and student assistants.
  • Coordinates the circulation and technical services assignments.
  • Develops and updates circulation and technical services procedures.

2. Circulation Services:

  • Accountable for all aspects of circulation services, including patron accounts, circulation transactions, fines, bills, accounting, cash handling, course reserves and material tracking.
  • Answers directional and informational questions, referring reference questions to the Librarians.
  • Makes policy and procedure recommendations related to library services.
  • Monitors patron satisfaction and proposes methods for improving services.
  • Resolves complex circulation-related issues, while maintaining excellent service.
  • Oversees stack maintenance activities (shelving, shelf-reading and shifting).

3. Techinical Services and Acquistions:

  • Oversees the ordering, copy-cataloging and processing of library materials.
  • Maintains the order of library journal volumes in the library and the transfer of materials to on-campus storage.
  • Prepares procedures and supervises technical services work.
  • Maintains an updated periodical holdings list on the library’s website.
  • Files vendor claims for library resources not received.
  • Regularly seeks and implements new procedures to streamline operations and increase efficiency.

4. Integrated Library System:

  • Provides and manages technical support of the integrated library system.
  • Coordinates and provides circulation and catalog record maintenance training for the Library Assistants and other Library employees.
  • Generates overdue, fine, usage and other statistical reports.
  • Performs system upgrades and notifies library employees of new developments.

5. Interlibrary Loans:

  • Coordinates Interlibrary Loan services (borrowing and lending of library materials from other libraries).
  • Locates requested books and articles not held by the Library using other library catalogs and OCLC WorldCat data.
  • Collects fees and processes invoices for Interlibrary Loans.

6. Budget:

  • Compiles, reviews, monitors and reconciles budgets. 
  • Processes invoices for subscriptions, memberships, books and journal orders in a timely manner.
  • Prepares and reports regular updates for the Director of Library Services.

7. General Office/Administrative:

  • Performs and oversees a wide variety of administrative support duties for the department.
  • Screens, sorts and distributes a large volume of incoming daily mail.
  • Maintains and troubleshoots library equipment and multifunction machines (copy, print and scan).
  • Maintains inventory of office and processing supplies for library material.

8. Training and Development:

  • Continually develops knowledge and skills by participating in online and in-person training sessions.

9. Other:

  • Assists with special projects and other duties as assigned or approved by the Director of Library Services.
 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Two years library experience at the level of Library Assistant or above preferred.
  • Library Science coursework or Library Technical Assistant degree preferred.
  • Prior supervisory experience required.  Experience supervising college students preferred.
  • Exceptional service orientation and ability to resolve complex issues while maintaining excellent service.
  • Ability to multitask and apply flexibility to accommodate a dynamic library environment.
  • Ability to take initiative and independently plan, organize and coordinate a variety of library projects.
  • Knowledgeable of library operations and ability to seek efficiencies to streamline procedures.
  • Experience working with Integrated Library Systems and adept at learning new technologies.
  • Demonstrated proficiency using MS Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to accomplish tasks as a team member and leader.
  • Superior organization and time management skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records and manage budgets.
  • Experience working with a diverse and multicultural population.

Physical Demands:

Employee must be able to lift up to twenty-five pounds, carry up to ten pounds, push heavily loaded book trucks and stand/sit for long periods of time for the successful completion of assigned duties.

Schedule:

Normal work schedule is Monday through Friday with some evening and weekend shifts.  Schedule may be adjusted to accommodate departmental needs.

Position: Natural Sciences Technical Operations Manager

Reports to: Natural Sciences Department Chair

Status: Full-time (10 months)

General Description:
The Technical Operations Manager will be responsible for maintaining the labratory equipment and facilities. (Note:  Grant Funded Position – Contingent on continuing HSI-STEM grant funding)       

Specific Responsibilities/Duties:

  • Will ensure that all laboratory equipment is in good working order and ready for use by faculty and students as needed for experiments.  Equipment includes PCR Thermocycler, electrophoresis apparatus, pipettors, compound microscopes, dissecting microscopes, top loading, three-beam, and analytical balances, Vernier LabQuest units and probes, FT-IR, GC, HPLC, laminar flow hood, CO2 and non-CO2 incubators, Imager, UV-Vis Spectrometers, autoclaves and chemical hoods.
  • Will carry out weekly and monthly maintenance of equipment listed above and schedule and/or perform yearly preventive maintenance of said equipment. 
  • Will teach basic laboratory techniques to Undergraduate Student Lab Assistants and Research Assistants, create a tiered lab assistant program, and coordinate with faculty members to oversee Assistants as they set up and clean up experiments for each lab.
  • Will provide initial and ongoing training for Research Assistants on the proper care and use of equipment listed above.
  • Will coordinate with faculty to perform on-going inventory of each laboratory, to determine laboratory needs, and order equipment and supplies as needed.
  • Will create and maintain "operation/maintenance" forms and basic operation guides for our instrumentation.
  • Will train faculty and others on equipment, and support faculty in using equipment during labs as needed.
  • Will create a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) manual for lab assistants specific for individual lab courses in biology, chemistry, and physics.
  • Will be the Department Environmental Safety Officer and coordinate and oversee the removal of all hazardous waste.
  • Will engage in other duties assigned by the Department Chair that will improve services for Hispanic and low-income students in STEM fields.

Qualifications:

  • M.S. in Molecular Biology, Microbiology, Biochemistry, or related field
  • Three or more years lab and research experience
  • Detail-oriented, independent worker with strong interpersonal, organizational, problem-solving, written, and customer service skills.
