Notre Dame de Namur University (NDNU) is proud to recognize Victoria Liou-Johnson, Ph.D., Assistant Professor in the School of Psychology, on her election as a Full Member of Sigma Xi, The Scientific Research Honor Society, in October 2026.

Recognizing Excellence in Scientific Research

Sigma Xi is the world's largest general research honor society, bringing together scientists and engineers from a wide range of disciplines who share a commitment to advancing scientific knowledge.

Throughout its distinguished history, more than 200 Sigma Xi members have received Nobel Prizes, while many others have been elected to the National Academy of Sciences and the National Academy of Engineering.

Membership in Sigma Xi is by nomination only and recognizes individuals based on their research achievements and potential.

While associate membership recognizes individuals who demonstrate promise as researchers, full membership is reserved for those who have demonstrated noteworthy achievements in scientific research. These accomplishments may include scholarly publications, patents, written research reports, and other significant contributions to their respective fields.

Dr. Liou-Johnson's election to full membership reflects recognition of her body of research and scholarly accomplishments.

Advancing Research in Kidney Care and Traumatic Brain Injury

Dr. Liou-Johnson's research focuses on areas of significant importance to healthcare and scientific understanding, including health equity in kidney care and traumatic brain injury.

Her election to Sigma Xi recognizes her contributions to these research areas and her dedication to advancing knowledge through scientific inquiry.

Reflecting on this achievement, Dr. Liou-Johnson shared that her nomination and membership are a great honor and she feels humbled to recognized and included in this prestigious society amongst scientific luminaries. She also emphasized that none of this work could have been possible without the guidance of her mentors, the work of her collaborators, and participants’ willingness to be part of the research. She hopes that her research leads to improving treatment and the lives of people living with chronic conditions such as chronic kidney disease and traumatic brain injury.

Her scholarly accomplishments also connect to her role as a faculty member involved with NDNU's Research Hub, supporting the university's commitment to research, academic excellence, and continued intellectual exploration.
